2010-07-28 Thread Luttmann, Michael W CTR USA NETCOM/9TH SC A 7TH SC
I have found that most reporting/crystal errors on Mid-Tier are due to
configuration errors. There are several areas you need to check:

- Mid-Tier Admin webpage, Report Settings: These values must be set correctly
for your environment. (** Flush the cache between changes. **)
- AR Server Information, Advanced, Default Web Path: Format should be
http://[webserver]/arsys;
- Check your User form for the correct user account and permissions for the
ODBC connection

Re: Crystal Report error

2010-07-25 Thread Debnath, Prijit
Atul,
You should first try to run the report from the designer itself. As Shafqat
mentioned, there should be a verify database and a refresh/update database
option. The refresh/update option used to be in the older versions of Crystal
Report (not sure if this is still there). If you are able to pull out the
report, that would mean that your report's connectivity to the backend is fine.
And that the issue is somewhere between the MT and Crystal Report engine. HTH.

Hi Dwayne,

We had numerous people in the same situation as you did. And it wasn't
across the board, they could run some reports but not others. To me it
seemed that a report with subreports caused more problems but that wasn't
consistent either.

We upgraded from 5.1.2 so we had many a/l buttons that still ran on a macro
and that appears to be a problem so we've had to change the workflow to open
window strategy.

Even after we get the user working, periodically they start getting the
errors again. I believe it is ODBC related. And it is generally after an
application has been installed so there must be some .dll overlap. Although
I cannot prove that theory out, we'll go with intuition.

When we have a user like that we do a removal of the C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Business Objects folder, clearing of all cache files (we have a cool
little program that does it that our new support provider TuringSMI
provided), complete uninstall / reboot / install, reconfigure the ODBC, make
sure all options are chosen correctly etc. and then it generally will work.
(well until the next time)

I had a ticket with bmc and that went no where. After months of logging,
hoop jumping, doing it over and over on webex, the best they could recommend
was switching from macro to open window a/l's. Sort of works but was not a
total fix.

I hope some of this info helps, feel free to ask questions, I may have
forgotten something.

I seem to recall one of my clients experiencing something similar when I was at
STI. If I recall correctly, they had several versions of Crystal reports: 9,
10 and 11 in their shop, and the workstations that were experiencing the issue
had either multiple versions installed on their machine or had upgraded,
causing an issue with a DLL file. I recall BMC support sending me a file to
replace the DLL with, but this was two years and three contracts ago, so I
don't recall specifics, but you may want to look at the crpe32.dll. I've seen
a variety of problems with it over the years.

Hi Susan,

I should have mentioned a point that didn't seem important at the time, but
turned out to be the key. The user installed Remedy WUT as PC Administrator,
but was running as PC User. (Lots of our people are doing that as a security
precaution.)

She did try renaming the Business Objects file, but it didn't help.

So she re-installed the WUT as Administrator and ran it as Administrator and
the problem went away. Probably the PC User didn't have permission to some
folder or object. Unfortunately, she has destroyed the evidence so I have no
way of tracking down the problem.

Thank you for your suggestions and info. I'll keep a copy of your emails in
case this happens again.

   but that wasn't consistent either.

We upgraded from 5.1.2 so we had many a/l buttons
that still ran on a macro and that appears to be a
problem so we've had to change the workflow to open
   window strategy.

Even after we get the user working, periodically
they start getting the errors again. I believe it
is ODBC related. And it is generally after an
application has been installed so there must be some
.dll overlap. Although I cannot prove that theory
   out, we'll go with intuition.

When we have a user like that we do a removal of the
   C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects
folder, clearing of all cache files (we have a cool
little program that does it that our new support
provider TuringSMI provided), complete uninstall /
reboot / install, reconfigure the ODBC, make sure
all options are chosen correctly etc. and then it
generally will work. (well until the next time)

I had a ticket with bmc and that went no where.
After months of logging, hoop jumping, doing it over
and over on webex, the best they could recommend was
switching from macro to open window a/l's. Sort of
works but was not a total fix.

I hope some of this info helps, feel free to ask
questions, I may have forgotten something.

If they click a similar button on another form the report displays OK. If

The WUT configuration and version are the same as on other computers. I

Any idea what might be going on?

Is {?Pm-IT_PIQ.PIQ_ID} a formula field on the Crystal report or a field on
the Remedy form? If {?Pm-IT_PIQ.PIQ_ID} is a field on the Remedy form, maybe
the report is confusing it for a formula field because of the '?' as a
prefix to its name. Try renaming it, verify the database in Crystal reports,
add the new rpt file and run the report..

I also have a doubt on the way Crystal is interpreting the '/' character in
the field IT_Resource.Associated PIQ/Request. Have you checked use of
underscores? I don't recall offhand if a '/' character should get converted
to an '_' character as when you use underscores so make sure you have that
checked..

Joe,

?Pm- means that it is a prompt, and not part of the field name. It is the

Dwayne,

It was the ODBC configuration I was talking about. By the way calling ?Pm-
a formula field was a devils error. I meant the parameter field.. sorry
about that..

If you already have the 'Use underscores' checked, just for the purpose of
eliminating possible problems, could you hit the option to 'Verify Database'
and save the report? On doing so import that report into the Remedy
reporting forms and then try re-running the report.

Re: Crystal report error on Mid-Tier

2007-11-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dwayne,
I'm not saying that this is your error but we currently have an open support
issue with a software defect number SW00280014 directly related to generating a
Crystal Report on the Mid Tier from an AL which seems similar to your issue.
According Remedy Tech. this issue has been around since 6.3 and is still
present in 7.0.1. Here is the detail information on our issue. It may be
worth it to check with support and see if your issue could be related to this
defect. If it is related then it would certainly help get the defect resolution
elevated.

ARSystem 7.0.1 Patch 4
Mid-Tier 7.0.1 Patch 4
MSSQL 2000
Win Srv 2003
Crystal Enterprise 10

An ActiveLink which generates a report of type Crystal causes an error when a
Qualification contains a datetime field compared to the 10/18/2007 10:52:47 AM
keyword when executed on the Mid-Tier. (example: 'datetimefield' 10/18/2007
10:52:47 AM).

ERROR Displayed
Crystal Report Viewer
Error in formula A number, currency amount, boolean, date, time, date-time, or
string is expected here.
Details: errorKind. File report.rpt [On Cache/Page Server.
SERVERNAME.pageserver]

The report in question has been verified against the database, executes
correctly with the activelink when the date comparison is removed from the
Qualification field, runs from the Remedy Report Selection Console, runs when
executed directly from a web browser, runs from the report function of the User
Tool. ActiveLink logging shows successful activelink processing (i.e.
activelink log shows no errors). Data for the date field has been manually
validated and the field contains valid data for all records.

**

Good morning folks,

When attempting to run a report out of the full client in 7.0, I get the
following error:

An error occurred while generating the Crystal report: 0x80004003 - Invalid
pointer (ARERR 1904)

Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it? The BMC knowledgebase is useless
for this problem.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-06-20 Thread strauss
Be CAREFUL about uninstalling the 7.x User tool - prior to 7.0.01.002 or
003 uninstalling the crystal executables (automatic on uninstalling the
User Tool) has a very good change of completely destroying any Microsoft
Office installation (crystal uninstaller problem). It requires
reimaging the Windows machine to fix. I has happened here, and it is a
known defect of the User Tool uninstaller.

Shawn,

Completely remove Windows User Tool and the Crystal XI
redistributables that get installed with it, reboot, reinstall WUT.
I've had that happen to a couple of my users here and that always fixed
it. In my case, it seemed to be related to another version of Crystal
being installed at the same time.

2007-06-20 Thread David Yearsley
We have seen this error.

In some cases a reinstall of the user or an upgrade fixed the problem.

In others we renamed the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business
Objects\3.0 to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0_OLD and then
did a reinstall. This forces the install to reinstall the crystal link.

Re: Crystal Report Error (Solved ?)

2007-04-25 Thread patrick zandi

I chatted to remedy concerning this issue,
The issue is the following:
Any report Previously made by any other versions to 9 is DOA.

So if you have created a report in 7 - 8 - 8.5 and then upgraded them to
9.0
and expect to use them in any way shape or Form.. Forget it. They are DOA.

New DLL's require either a Fresh 9.0 or XI CR design. That is the Issue in
a NutShell folks..

Hope that helps.

I had the issues as well, and I never went to ARS 7.01 because once you
cross into that version of Server you can no longer use the OLDER CR's. But
if you use ARS 7.00.02 or Patch2 and Client 6.3 all is fine. But you also
cannot use the ARS 7.X client.

Have a Great CR Rebuilding day .. 8-)

Hello Guys,
Just a little update on the situation.
When I login to User tool and try to
print crystal reports using the
DTP Style button, It gives me a logon
error (arerr 1904). When I ask
someone else to login to my usertool,
they can print successfully!
Interesting thing is we both have
Administrator accounts...
So now we're thinking this could be some
permission issue, but we
can't quite point our fingers at it.
Anyone?

But it seems so far the victims have been admins, which may be a clue.
Mikhail was successful just by creating the new user, which you sure
wouldn't want to do for alot of people. Something is odd, but you can get
grey hair worrying about these things if it's a one-off issue.

Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-03-21 Thread Mikhail
Hi Susan,
One of our clients also had this problem. He got a logon failed error.
So I asked him to check his ODBC configurations, and noticed that the
ARServer field was blank. So he entered in remprod1 (which is our
server name) and it worked for him.
As for the account that I have that doesn't work, I tried logging on
to another machine and still didn't work. But when I tried logging on
with my new account (which works on MY station), worked on the other
station.
So clearly, there is something wrong with my old account.
As for the workflow differences, I couldn't find anything different
between the two, which means to me that the ALs associated with this
problem are working as they should be. It is on the back end of things
that are screwy.
I do not want to delete my old account YET, i want to compare the
differences between the bad and good accounts so I can narrow down
what's causing this to happen.
Any suggestions on how to do that?
Thanks for all your input!

Well ... since administrators are 'all powerful' it does seem odd. Make
another account for yourself and try that one. If it works, delete the old
one and use the one that works. There must be something different but
without being there it's really hard to troubleshoot something that is
probably simple. And no, please don't send any logfiles !

What about Use Underscores? Remedy generally does on their Crystal

On your Remedy client - click Tools Options Advanced
Check ODBC Use Underscores and run the report again.
If it is already checked, uncheck it and run the report.

I assume everyone with this problem that has responded above has uninstalled
the user/alert completely and reinstalled. I had a problem running Crystal
a year or so ago but once I did that it went away. Probably a .dll that was
changed from another software install. But if the problem started after any
new software installs or what about infamous windows patches. There's
alot of wierd things going on once those are applied.

You're right Mikhail, I sure wouldn't want to recreate accounts either. But
it seemed it was only your account having the issue. You can only spend so
much time on an issue and then you have to cut it loose if you have a
work-around. If it comes up again you'd certainly want to look at it
further. I'm glad you submitted the issue to support, although I don't hold
out much hope for a solution. But just in this short time it's amazing how
many other people have noted they have an issue too. Seems like a bit of a

Mikhail, try another workstation, logged in as yourself, see if the
problem follows the ID or just your pc. I don't recall what version you
said you had, but if you have crystal reports installed, perhaps you can
locate the report in report form and save the report to your workstation
and try opening it up directly. Be sure to edit the criteria so it
doesn't try to display every ticket in your database.

In a prior email, I'd suggested turning on logging as yourself and the
individual that works, did you notice any differences between the 2 log
files?

DTP Style button, It gives me a logon error (arerr 1904). When I

 ask
someone else to login to my usertool, they can print
 successfully!
Interesting thing is we both have Administrator accounts...
So now we're thinking this could be some permission issue, but
 we
can't quite point our fingers at it.
 Anyone?

Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-03-16 Thread Mikhail
I'm working with Derek on this problem. We tried recreating this
problem on someone else's computer, and it worked just fine. Now with
that given, along with the error stating An error occurred while
generating the Crystal report - Logon failed. (ARERR 1904)., tells me
that the problem must be in the client-side, probably some iffy dll's
or something. I tried uninstalling EVERYTHING on my computer that is
related to Remedy (user, admin, migrator, alert), then reinstalled
everything again (v7.0.01 patch 001), but I still get that error.
Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Mikhail

Sounds like a problem with the ODBC configuration on the client. I'd
start checking there.

Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-03-16 Thread Mikhail
Hi Susan and Michael,

Thank you for your inputs.
The crystal report resides in a network location. And yes, it is
associated with an active link. We've already done the method you
suggested, yet we still get the same error.
After I reloaded everything, I didn't check the ODBC configuration
because I don't know what goes in there. I just checked it now.

This is what I have in my ODBC configuration:

I went to Control Panel Administrative Tools Data Sources (ODBC)
Under the User DSN tab, i chose AR System ODBC Data Source and
clicked Configure..
All that is setup is the Data Source Name which is set to AR System
ODBC Data Source.
The rest of the fields are blank.

Sir,I
am not positive on this.. but from what I understand of this.. your issue
is your reports were built in the old version of CR .. CR XI is compatable
with this version .. I do not believe CR 7, 8, 8.5, or 9 will work anymore.
I have seen this.. on testing.. and could not find a fix.. but was told it
was fixed with CR XI reports.
have not finish the testing to prove..
Someone else will chime in here soon on this issue I hope..

Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-03-05 Thread Derek Fernandes

Hi Susan,

How do I go about doing that?

When I goto the Contol Panel -- Administrative Tools -- Data Sources
(ODBC), it shows the AR System ODBC Data Source under the User DSN tab.
Under the Drives tab, it shows the AR System ODBC Drive (version
7.00.01.01).

What else has to be done?

Thanks,
Derek

Hi Derek,

I didn't actually have to do it, but when you said it required a log in that
was the first thing that came to mind. But that is how to config it.
