[AsburyPark] A Respectful Good Bye.

2010-12-19 Thread dapawprint
Hello listmates,

I have been respectfully put in my place as a visitor. I kind of like that,
as this trying to help YOUR city has become a pain in my ass.

I'll visit, sure enough. I'll spend my money on ME and MY enjoyment. No more
donations to the needy, no more support for the City. Oh, well. Best of luck
to you in your future endeavors.

I have been put in my place and that place is NOT Asbury Park.

I am so very sorry for your situation, I attempted to assist, I did my best,
but it was all in vain.

Blissfully yours,

Glenn

Oh, and a parting comment to all of you dedicated City members. You may CLAIM
that you attend the City Council meetings, but DO YOU? As a visitor, I am a
piece of shit, but IF you are there, I never hear about it. You must be the
silent majority. More power to Werner and Maureen! Newbee for President!

[AsburyPark] Re: City declares Istar in default.....in APP

2010-12-14 Thread dapawprint
Shame on me, huh, Jack? Yep... 10 years (9 according to the neighbor) that lot
next to The Empress was a mess. I have no clue whether it was my own following
up which gt it cleaned out or whether it was an amazing coincidence, I am not
sure that either you nor Brian even have a coincidence. Have either of you
TRIED to make change in Asbury Park? I hear a hint here and a hint there...
Seeing as I do not live there, I quite possibly am not privy to these attempts
of change.

Yep, it will probably be a parking lot as historically, it always has been.

Jack, if you think that I come to AP and don't think that I see the same things
that you see, you are wrong. Yes, I do not live there. I was an annoying
advocate of change with that Empress lot and none of us will ever know if I had
anything to to with the cleanup, but it's clean.

I do know one thing, logging into this group and bitching and complaining to
cyberspace accomplishes absolutely nothing. You can point your finger at me
and berate me for calling someone out, but I DID SOMETHING, I ACTED.

I'm probably on the City's list of assholes, but please inform me of my list
mates, who else has acted?

Honestly, I am losing interest in AP, sad that.

Glenn

Where's the plan for it's future? I'd be willing to bet it becomes a parking

I've lived here for nearly 6 years, and as I approach the age of 50, I can
honestly say AP has been part of my entire life.
I live in a graveyard of destruction, and it goes on and on and on.
I don't see anything with rose colored glasses, and Brian is right on the
money, and shame on you Glenn for calling him out. He see's exactly the same
 thing I see.
We have a weak local government. It's pathetic. Powerless. Zero balls
 whatsoever.
The local rose colored glass wearing public is in total denial.
Sure, progress has been made, but we are accepting marginal development as if
it's the greatest thing ever. Total bullshit. I look out my living room
 window, and I see destruction.
This city is a microcosm of a plague that affects much of the
USA...homogenization and a total lack or care or respect to a cultural
history. It's pathetic. Tear it down, and replace it with crap. I'm sorry,
but I will not waver from my opinion that the boardwalk we now have is
nothing more than a soulless strip mall. It will forever be inhabited by a
rotating cast of characters that will never take hold, because they lack
uniqueness and a sense of place.
Once upon a time, there was a thing called architecture, and right now in
the City of Asbury Park, it's being mocked. There is zero continuity. It's a
mismatch of conflicting styles punctuated by acre upon acre of empty lots.
 Masterplan my ass.
Our so called Historical society is a piece of ineffective crap.
We have a historic Carousel House that contains the most dubious piece of
garbage Xmas display ever. It's a joke. Here's a thought, put a Carousel in
there. The Paramount is dark how many days a year? It's a theater, but it's
 empty more than anything.
Finally, just in case anybody isn't paying attention, the Arthur Pryor Band
Shell is done. Never, ever coming back. The roof is falling apart, and I'd be
willing to bet everything I have that it will never be put back to what it
 was...something great.

And why are these details discussed behind closed doors, Dorf? All these
questions you pose are valid and there is no reason why the public shouldn't
know. In fact, denying us that information is against the law.

The appeals panel, in Nevin V Asbury Park, wrote that it defeats the spirit
of the Sunshine Law for the City to share the details of a proposed contract
with the other side of that contract and leave the public in the dark.
So after that decision, the City began meeting with the other party with a
subquorum of the council, two council members, instead of the three necessary
to conduct business. The councilmembers gather information at these meetings
and then meet in executive session with the full council to share these
details. But at this point they are again in violation of the Sunshine Law.
If the council wants to discuss their strategy, then the law allows them to
go into private session for that purpose.
But first the public should be informed of the terms that the other side - in
this case iStar - is presenting or sharing with the subquorum members. What
useful purpose does denying the public this knowledge serve? iStar surely
knows the information, why shouldn't we?

  The facts are pretty simple.

Is IStar technically in trouble as co on the whole? Maybe, depending how
you look at it. Hoewever, since their maybe going bankrupt, investors
think otherwise, as their stock CLIMBED from the low 2.00 range to around
  $6.50

IF you really think they'll roll over what is maybe $70m or more on $70m or
more of their loan - WHY? Will they or should they give up their rights
which have a value all their own? They will still own the property, unless
they decide to sell some off - when they want to, at a price suitable to
  them.

Do you think that their land is WORTHLESS? Do you think their inherited
  rights are WORTHLESS?

Without knowing all the details, that $70m loan may turn out to be great
investment. HOW? Simple. Figure it out. They own more or less all the
property and RIGHTS to develop. A major portion of the infrastructure,
engineering and planning has already been completed.

And the land their clearing - it's THEIRS. They obtained the rights to that
land - regardless of what I or anyone else thinks.

From a development point of view - IF they are marketing the properties as
development parcels to anyone or group - with the city or to their own
development partners - it's makes a much nicer presentation to show LAND -
uncluttered FLAT LAND - on the OCEAN.

A developers dream - even if it means having to work within the development
(or preceived) process known to have plasgued AP all through history.

Fi you want to play with numbers - even if the owners sold rights over the
next 30 years to use that magical number of 3,000 condos (or
homes, apartments etc), for only 50,000 per unit right (3,000*50,000)

[AsburyPark] Sadness in Asbury Park

2010-10-01 Thread dapawprint
I was supposed to be in AP this weekend, sorry to report that all of this rain
has closed many roads by me preventing the pets and I from visiting.

I (we, including the pets) regret being unavailable to provide support to our
friends, hence, I reach out to all of you local people.

Joe and Carmen Dello recently laid their trusty feline friend Gracie to rest.
Gracie was an addition to a family which has supported Asbury Park for decades.
 Check those History Books.

A few days ago, our own Baily Quinn passed on. You may recall him as the
poster on this group for Amy Quinn.

Rest in Peace Gracie and Baily.

In their honor, I ask you to think about what their families stood for. The
Dello's supported A.P. then and now. Amy Quinn fights for A.P. every day.

Please join me in solace for Joe, Carmen, Amy and Heather.

[AsburyPark] Re: Baronet's Gone! Let's look forward.

2010-09-23 Thread dapawprint
I'd support that.

Although ReVision has had much success in the Carousel House, I'd think that
they would agree that it is not the prime space. I personally rallied a while
back to get the sister Carousel to the original Carousel back in that carousel
house and I met with opposition that it should be *given* to ReVision.

And, yes, there IS a sister Carousel and it was available. Maybe it still is.

Anyhow.

The issue at hand is theater. Personally, I have not witnessed ReVison
performances (partly due to the the opposition of my effort and partly due to
the fact that our schedules never mesh), but I have heard TERRIFIC reviews! I
was in town for the Tommy dress rehearsal and what I saw was magnificent.

ReVision needs better than a carousel house and there is a Carousel out there
somewhere waiting for a home.

I see the flip side too, Revison has kept the carousel house living. I also
fear that the Casino and the Carousel House are falling subject to Demolition
upon Neglect. Though, I suspect that the Arthur Pryor Bandshell will be the
next loss. :-( Everything seems to start with the roof.

I had additional information regarding the roof of the Baronet, sadly, that
doesn't matter anymore.

So, keep me in the loop with a home for ReVision. I still would like to see a
Carousel in that Carousel House.

All my best,

Glenn

[AsburyPark] Re: The failure of AP paid parking

2010-08-11 Thread dapawprint
All,

Possibly none of you noticed, but I recently left the group due to aggravation
of the usual complaining with lack of action. I have joined again and feel
like I am absolutely crazy replying to this thread. However, I shall reply.

@Sharon: Alternate side of the street parking is a rule. Those of us with good
parents should know how rules work. If I lived by you and I forgot and
received a ticket.. well, that is My bad.

@Oak: Excellent Point!! Even on the busiest nights, and I was there for
Gaslight Anthem AND Frampton, the lot by the Carousel House was not fully
used. iStar and Madison Marquette should cone-off the far side of the lot
for Parking of THEIR employees... and they should do the same in their other
lots. If not free, for a fraction of the cost of City Parking.

@Hinge: I like the resident parking sticker idea, but it still will not
guarantee a parking spot, just the lack of a ticket. It will not help your
ability to come and go. Resident Parking Spaces in conjunction with Resident
Parking Stickers works. Residents with stickers should be able to request
towing at the vehicle owners expense. The lot behind The Empress, by the way,
is one of the reasons that I got fed up with this group and left. And it has a
LOT to do with one of Brian's comments to this tread. This thread ALSO has to
do with my aggravation. Let me explain. Complaining amongst ourselves is not
solving anything. Brian said Strength in Numbers. Ok, well, I see that and
I do not dismiss that. I support that, actually. But who is acting? I
understand that schedules prevent Council Meeting attendance. Ask yourself if
attendance at a Council meeting is even necessary? Do you have a pen and a
piece of paper? Do you have access to e-mail? Do you have access to a
telephone? Do you go out in public and meet people face-to-face? My point is
that complaining here is only relieving the momentary stress, it's not
accomplishing anything. Example: A close friend complained to me via another
media during the winter regarding the lot behind The Empress. I sent an e-mail
to the Mayor voicing my friend's concern as well as my own. I received a reply
within one business day explaining that the eyesores were being dealt with.
I gave it some time and I followed up, again via e-mail. I received a reply
that Deputy Mayor Lofferdo was assigned to address the issue with that
particular lot. I gave it more time... and yep, I asked again. I was once
again told that it was being addressed. I got fed up and I called code
enforcement and stated that I was making a Formal Complaint. Shortly
thereafter, our friend Maureen Nevin reported via http://www.asburyradio.com
that the City had entered into an agreement with iStar to lease that lot (as
well as others) back and make them in to parking. Maybe I had NOTHING to do
with it. Maybe I did. You won't know what difference you might make if you do
not try!! And, by he way, iStar had a guy in that lot behind Them Empress with
a weed whacker on Monday... clearing all the weeds around all of the crap. Why
would they pay for that if nothing is going to happen?

[...@jack - sorry for the long dissertation in your section, it's just where
'it fit.']

Food for thought.

Remember, I don't live in Asbury Park. I do care though and I hate to see
people complaining and not acting. I'm trying! I, like you, need to read
asburyradio.com to see what Bill Grey thinks that he can get out of us (well,
you!)

I'll help! :-)

Glenn

In William Gray's $1 million dollar suit against your City, he claims (quoted
from asburyradio.com): Under Description of Injury, the claim cites
emotional trauma, mental and psychiatric stress, anxiety and depression
together with aggravation and exacerbation of pre-existing stress... and
similar complaints arising from the workplace and suffered by Claimant, William
Gray.

Aside from the word Workplace, I would wonder if the Monmouth County
Prosecutors office would be able to argue that this is nothing but the SAME
things which William Gray afflicted upon your fellow resident Werner T.
Baumgartner (and quite possibly others.)

Think about that.

Werner got JAIL (multiple times!), Werner got FINED... Mr. Gray should get a
MILLION DOLLARS in compensations for THE SAME THING THAT HE DID TO SOMEONE ELSE?

Think about that.

And here is my Wonder: I wonder if the reason that all I hear is complaints
and nothing about action on this group is because the residents of Asbury Park
(on this group) saw it happen to Werner (and quite possibly others) and they
are afraid that the same thing may happen to themselves. I wonder.

William Gray had stress, depression, anxiety, trauma? Is that not the SAME
thing that HE inflicted upon every owner of a sidewalk crack, a sandwich board,
a table too close to the edge of the walkway? Never mind what he did to Werner.

He should get a nice hefty fine (IMHO), not an award for his pain and
suffering. Hey! Maybe even JAIL TIME!

The Residents of the City of Asbury Park, NJ need to step up and speak for
themselves. I believed that corruption had left the City, this recent
development makes me wonder.

Comments?

 All,

Possibly none of you noticed, but I recently left the group due to
aggravation of the usual complaining with lack of action. I have joined
again and feel like I am absolutely crazy replying to this thread. However,
 I shall reply.

@Sharon: Alternate side of the street parking is a rule. Those of us with
good parents should know how rules work. If I lived by you and I forgot
and received a ticket.. well, that is My bad.

The lot behind The Empress, by the
way, is one of the reasons that I got fed up with this group and left. And
it has a LOT to do with one of Brian's comments to this tread. This thread
ALSO has to do with my aggravation. Let me explain. Complaining amongst
ourselves is not solving anything. Brian said Strength in Numbers. Ok,
well, I see that and I do not dismiss that. I support that, actually. But
who is acting? I understand that schedules prevent Council Meeting
attendance. Ask yourself if attendance at a Council meeting is even
necessary? Do you have a pen and a piece of paper? Do you have access to
e-mail? Do you have access to a telephone? Do you go out in public and meet
people face-to-face? My point is that complaining here is only relieving the
momentary stress, it's not accomplishing anything. Example: A close friend
complained to me via another media during the winter regarding the lot behind
The Empress. I sent an e-mail to the Mayor voicing my friend's concern as
well as my own. I received a reply within one business day explaining that
the eyesores were being dealt with. I gave it some time and I followed up,
again via e-mail. I received a reply that Deputy Mayor Lofferdo was assigned
to address the issue with that particular lot. I gave it more time... and
yep, I asked again. I was once again told that it was being addressed. I
got fed up and I called code enforcement and stated that I was making a
Formal Complaint. Shortly thereafter, our friend Maureen Nevin reported
via http://www.asburyradio.com that the City had entered into an agreement
with iStar to lease that lot (as well as others) back and make them in to
parking. Maybe I had NOTHING to do with it. Maybe I did. You won't know
what difference you might make if you do not try

I certainly hope that no lawyer would. Why hasn't anyone sued Metro Homes? I
fell over there last week, should I sue? Why has code enforcement not enforced
THAT? Not making arguements, just asking.

Or, making a point.

The job of a code enforcement officer is to enforce code violations. If he

 their job

I think I'd take that on once or twice a week.

Hopefully, you can't sue for job related stress. Next you now it, everyone
will be stressed out at work and calling up their lawyer.

If your boss asks you to do something - can that cause strees?

So the insurance will continue to rise - for everyone.

[AsburyPark] Re: The Esperanza and the lot behind the Empress

2010-07-21 Thread dapawprint

All valid points. As a visitor, my ability is limited. The lot on Kingsley is
referred to by The City as the staging area. I have personally approached
(several times) the mayor and the deputy mayor with regard to that lot. I was
told that the lot would be cleaned up.

It is my understanding that, historically, that lot had always been parking.
It is quite possible that it is zoned for exactly that. Zoning is a matter of
public record. Again, my ability is limited as I primarily visit on the
weekends. Would one or more of you be willing to visit the code enforcement
office at 1 Municipal plaza to obtain the zoning records for that lot as well
as the Esperanza lot?

While you are at it, it might also be interesting to see what code violations
have been issued to those properties (also public record.)

Code enforcement seems to have no problem issuing violations for cracked
sidewalks outside of your residences, sandwich boards outside of your
restaurants, etc. (Look at Werner!) It is reasonable to believe that there
*SHOULD* be violations on these properties. Amongst many things, broken
fencing, damaged and non-existent sidewalks come to mind.

Knowledge is power. If a concerted effort is to go fourth on rectifying these
abominations, the facts must be known. For this effort to succeed, one or more
of you need to do some data collection. Then follow up at a council meeting
and by making formal complaints to code enforcement.

I did, as I suggested, make a telephone call to code enforcement regarding the
staging area. I received voice mail. Since I believe that Mr. Grey is still
out on a paid leave while he defends his conduct unbecoming charge, I will
also send a written complaint to Asbury Park City Hall, One Municipal Plaza,
Asbury Park, NJ 07712, ATTN: Code Enforcement. I urge you to do the same.

I have been following up with the City Council for many months now on that
staging area, a little backup would be nice.

Jack is correct, nothing will be accomplished by complaining to ourselves.

(off soap box.)

Seperate point. MM has tried very hard to turn some of the empty lots

So, where are our team members? Honestly, we only need a few at this point:
One person to investigate whether or not code violations have been issued (all
over the City), one person to get the current zoning of the properties and one
person to go to a Council meeting. The rest of us need to make official
complaints to the code enforcement department (and maybe the City Manager?)
Violations either cause compliance or fines - even sometimes jail time.
Remember, the City needs money. If our pal Werner can do jail time and pay
$19k in fines, these other violators should do the same. I have pursued the
clean-up of the lot behind the Empress Hotel. Whom else is pursuing anything
else; or are we still simply complaining to each other?

I know that not all of us in this group share my excitement, but
please keep our own Denise Richardson in your thoughts as she leads
two busses and 92 people down to the Mall for the inauguration.

Asbury Park has been the launching pad for many famous people, I saw
some of them on my TV today as they performed on the steps of the
Lincoln Memorial, with the First Presidential - Elect Family as the

Change has come, and dreams DO come true.

[AsburyPark] Important, Mounted Police - Please Read....

2009-01-14 Thread dapawprint
Hi all,

I have been so busy and I may be mistaken, however, there was an
article in the Asbury Press either today or yesterday. The article
spoke about how the City did not have enough money to sustain the AP
mounted police. The article spoke about a non-profit being formed.
I viewed this article online.

I am not talking about the article online right now which discusses
the donations which have saved the mounted police.

The initial article which I am asking about is no longer available
online.

Can anyone tell me when that first article was in the Press? Was it
today or yesterday?

I have an important reason for wanting to know and it has nothing to
do with the mounted police.

Thanks,

Glenn

[AsburyPark] Re: Important, Mounted Police - Please Read....

2009-01-14 Thread dapawprint
Sorry everyone,

Nevermind... the article I referred to was in the early edition
today. I was asking as an online poster commented that maybe the
mounted police might catch the bank robbers. I found the comment odd
as I had not heard of any robberies. When I read about the PNC Bank
robbery tonight, I recalled having read the article - but I could not
recall if I had read the comment today or yesterday. I thought that
someone had commented yesterday about a bank robbery that happened
today. Wrong. I try.

I may visit AP this weekend, I'll let you know,

Glenn

formed.
 I viewed this article online.

I am not talking about the article online right now which discusses
the donations which have saved the mounted police.

The initial article which I am asking about is no longer available

Can anyone tell me when that first article was in the Press? Was

[AsburyPark] Re: Why was a dumpster buried at the Met hotel site?

2009-01-13 Thread dapawprint
Hmm,

I had to give this a few moments of thought, but I may be on to
something.

That red dumpster has annoyed me too and I don't even live in the
city. Thinking back to my frustration, I believe that I had wondered
how and why someone would allow a dumpster to sit there for so long.
Dumpsters are rented and the longer that they sit there, the more they
cost. I recall wondering why Christiello - or whomever was paying for
that big red eyesore had not had it removed.

I don't know who's dumpster it is/was, but it was clearly not a DeLisa
dumpster. Knowing (and assuming) that Christiello is from Morristown,
the Carter might not have been local.

So, let's suppose that the business of being Mayor of Morristown
distracts a person enough to have forgotten that there was a red
dumpster working up a large rental bill in Asbury Park.

The bill goes to collections and a phone call is placed.

The Billee calls one of thier friends and ask then to make the
dumpster disappear so that the billee can report to the Carter that
they have no idea where it went, Gee, I thought you took it away.

Dumpster gets buried, proof is on the Carter, billee is laughing
privately. Hinge's friend foil the plot.

I looked through that dumpster. I am sure that there *could* be toxins
in there, but it appeared to be just junk.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Can somebody direct me who to report this to?

[AsburyPark] Re: New Year's Resolutions

2009-01-11 Thread dapawprint
Hi Kerri,

As always, I am impressed by your dedication to the kids of Asbury
Park. Changing a city does not come from the hands of developers, it
comes from the dedication and work of those who love where they grew
up and their desire to make a difference.

I am too far away to mentor in person, however, that has not stopped
me yet from caring about the kids in Asbury Park.

Please contact me, especially with regard to your musician. Mr.
Marine science has a great career ahead of him, if you can find a way
for me to help, I will, I don't know all about sealife, but I do have
some experience.

This is a honorable effort. I am sure that you have aspiring
journalists, biologists, artists, historians, preservationists,
scientists and electronic specialists under tow. I am only naming a
few.

I encourage you to compile a list of all of the childrens interests
and share them in this forum. This group might seem like a
collection of oddities, but there is a LOT of knowledge here. I
agree with you that sharing knowledge with our successors can make a
huge difference.

Thank you, Kerri for the good that you do.

Besides always needing volunteers to help kids with homework at

adults from the community up with certain kids to fulfill some
 specific requests and needs.

 Here are some examples

I have one little girl that would learn how to play the keyboard.
Any musicians out there that could spare some time? She received
a
 small keyboard for her birthday.

A 7th grade boy I know would really like to attend the Marine

someone who could just tutor him in general now and/or maybe help
prepare him for the entrance exam next year.

There are, of course, many other cases. I know volunteering can
sometimes be an intimidating commitment to get involved with.
These
kids already attend Holy Spirit's after-school program so the venue
is there and we can work out a schedule that completely suits you.

Hope to hear from some of you. Feel free to let me know if you
have
any specific talents that you would like to share.

Wow! I was in the Arcade at the same time and must have still been
inside when this happened.

Aside from one incident a few years ago, I have never been approached
in AP for handouts. I read your post and I wondered why; if I was
practically in the same place at the same time and wandered all over
that area, I was not approached.

I may have an answer for that. When in AP, I almost always have a
very visible camera either in my hand or on my shoulder.

Take your friends out again, but bring a camera, even if it is
trash. Keep it visible and I'll bet that your friends will not be
approached. Panhandlers would be wary of having their picture
taken. I am sorry that I wasn't able to get a picture for you!

Just a thought,

In addition, Oceanfront Asbury will increase the tax base of
Asbury

I have been trying to post for many hours the great news that the
BeachCam has been operational since 3:20pm today. The camera has
been re-aligned and now has a terrific view. It may well be a new
camera.

I will not post the URL to the camera in this message as I suspect
that the URL is the reason that my posts are not making it to the
group.

Go to the City's webpage and click on City Cams, then BeachCam (you
may have to hold you Ctrl key down if you have a pop-up blocker on a

Enjoy - and thanks for that cam!

If AP was a partisan town, the political party would put up 3 names

the party could fill the seat from the 3 names.

So it will be up to Kevin, Jimmy, John, Ed to determine if they

I say fill it to the rim with Amy Quinn or Michael Brim.

I think the larger point is that the anonymity that you can allow

Yahoo groups breeds behaviors that you don't see with people who

socialize in person? We could do it in a local place, meet for
drinks say once a month and get to know each other.

I find email to be the worst form of communication ever made. It's
way too easy to hear a tone in the writer's voice that is not as
it
was intended. I moderate two groups for work and I see a lot more
listening and weighing of opposing opinions when my group members
know and respect one another than when they are new and feeling

[AsburyPark] Re: Happy Turkey Day..

2008-11-28 Thread dapawprint
Hi New Beetoap,

I have been compared with you by at least one person in this group
and I feel the need to share with your observations.

- We are both relatively new to AP
- Neither of us lives within the City of AP.
- We both make occasional visits (I suspect that I visit more often
than you do, I may be wrong.)

Here is my story:

I visited AP for the first time in 1999. After a nearly 4 hour trip
to Six Flags and dealing with a rainy day, I called a former co-
worker from Morristown and asked if there was ANYTHING else to do in
the area.

I was encouraged to visit Paradise in Asbury Park. I had never heard
of Asbury Park, NJ. I had three friends with me and I followed the
directions precisely (no GPS's back then.)

My friends were very vocal as we drove east on Asbury Avenue: What
is this, Bosnia?; There are better places in Sarajevo.

I parked the car and we all stared at Paradise. It was an Oasis in a
sea of crap. That was 1999.

I stepped out of my car onto a TILED parking lot knowing NOTHING
about A.P., I did not realize that I was standing on the former floor
tile of the Plaza Hotel. I actually thought that the parking lot had
been tiled. THEN, I saw The Palace. It scared the crap out of me
in the dark!

Yes, Paradise was terrific, but I could not get the rest of A.P. out
of my mind.

I have spent the last 8 years learning as much as I can about the
former Jewel of the Jersey Shore.

I agree with you, there have been many un-truths in advertising.
Hell, if Kellogg's changes the picture on the box of Cornflakes, they
can legally call the product New and Improved!

Sure, dates have been missed, there are always obstacles to overcome
and it all takes time.

I am hoping that you realize that when you are critical of Asbury
Park - specifically in this Yahoo Group that you are not being
critical of the Development Team or the City - you are being critical
of the residents and the fans of Asbury Park.

The majority of the residents of Asbury Park, until very recently,
lived in a city which was spiraling into decline. When you post here
and challenge the milestones (I agree that they are late in coming),
you are in a way degrading the hope of a LOT of very hopeful people.

I recall when Charlie was posting regularly and he had some disdain,
I would try to encourage Charlie to go out, meet and talk to the
people of Asbury Park.

New Bee, you would not believe what wonderful people are in Asbury
Park! Charlie seems to be away, but I hope that he got to meet as
many special people as I have met.

I encourage you to visit Asbury Park more often and to actually meet
the people of Asbury Park.

You will discover that these people are optimistic for the first time
in decades.

You appear to have an issue with improvements not happening on-
time... SHIT... the people of Asbury Park see it so differently - and
so do I! When the City that you love has been in a backward spiral,
any millimeter forward is a good thing.

Is this a historic restoration, yes and no. I would be remiss if not
mentioning Werner. Werner would say no and yes... possibly, simply
NO. I guess that I have a different take on that. Should it be
historically restored? Well, I am not sure... should history live
on? Yes! I believe in Werner.

New Beetoap, you cannot change A.P., or the pace that the changes are
happening...

I visit as regularly as I can, I spend time with the people of Asbury
Park and I encourage you to do the same. We walk the boards, talk
about what we like and dislike and I hope for the best for the City
and its residents.

Thing ARE changing and those things have very little to do with the
Boardwalk.

When did we last hear Hinge mention front-yard prostitutes or garbage
on his lawn? When was the most recent murder? What about Library
Square Park?

Local residents are bringing their kids to AP at NIGHT! Maybe YOU do
not see change, but I do.

I am not sure that I like being compared to you, but I certainly hope
that I have explained why.

Asbury Park is more than a destination with a Kick-Ass history.

Asbury Park is a History-Rich City of people whom deserve the respect
and our support to make new history.

Just to name a few valuable causes in the city:

The Asbury Park Little League.
The Bike Church.
ARTSCAP.
MANY more!

If you really have a love of this city, please look outside of
the boardwalk box and re-focus your attention in the REAL city..

it

And it should be good for downtown, who has to learn and take
advantage of the boardwalk draw and feed off of it.

That's FREE marketing for the downtown and the rest of the city.

 Learn to capitalize on it.

A guy once had a pizzeria. He first complained that McDonalds moved
across the street (must of meant he was in a good spot, right). He
thought it would hurt his business.

In the long run, his business increased and he gained additional
parking from the lot and additional traffic

 get it?

[AsburyPark] Re: Stone Pony Closing for Repairs....

2008-11-24 Thread dapawprint
Long before James A. Bradley was even born, Cobblers were crafting
shoes and boots for communities when the family of the Cobbler walked
barefoot or in less than comfortable footwear.

Werner has a personal situation, exacerbated by personal and offical
attacks, yet still shares his wisdom for the greater good of the
city. Let us recall that those attacks have cost Werner money and
esteem.

I ask all of you to put yourselves in Werner's shoes and think again.

How many of us have actually been forced into a corner without a
resource but are still willing to share our knowledge. Not me, well,
maybe, I have learned from a great teacher.

With a few exceptions that I am aware of, many of Werner's critics on
this forum have never met Werner. I have. Werner could win the
majority of debates and if he lost, would conceded with grandeur.

My best advice to all of you is that if you choose to attack, make
certain that your know your opponent well. That man in the scary
house might actualy be the guy watching your back!

As we watch the economy bundgy jumping, we must realize that any
one of us may face the budget that Werner deals with daily. Would
any of YOU be willing to take time away from your own situation to
attempt to better the situation of those around you? Would you?

This is just my opinion, but please try to think out of the box.

Glenn

I read the recently hateful posts in this group with disdain. Life is
too short to be hateful.

On the evening of Sunday, October 12th, on the 5th Avenue Beach in
Asbury Park, a ceremony will be held to commemorate a victim of hate:

[AsburyPark] Re: Pictures from my Visit this Past Weekend

2008-09-16 Thread dapawprint
Thanks!!

I try my best to document my visits with pictures. I was challenged
though during Oysterfest because I was pushing a stroller for D-For and
walking Millie; if I moved two feet without answering a question, I was
doing good! Taking pictures just didn't happen! That was the point
though! Ducks CAN be great pets and I was able to hand out many flyers
about waterfowl protection. Nice.

Many people took pictures of us though and I would love to have even
ONE of them. If you took a picture of me, the duck or the dog (or
US!), please share it with me!

Thanks,

Glenn

Hi Lynn,

I haven't as yet checked your site out, but I will. I do not live in AP
either, but ask around and you will discover that I usually know of the
happenings in Asbury Park before many of the people that live there know
about them! Hehe, I am just persistent.

In addition to the sources that you have already listed, I would add
http://asburyboardwalk.com http://asburyboardwalk.com ,
http://theasburyparkboardwalk.com http://theasburyparkboardwalk.com
and http://gayasburypark.com http://gayasburypark.com to your list.
Also, go to http://www.topix.com/rss/wire/city/asbury-park-nj
http://www.topix.com/rss/wire/city/asbury-park-nj and set up an RSS
feed for yourself, you will receive alerts for any news articles
containing the words Asbury Park - not to worry, you will not be
flooded! Add yourself to any e-mail lists (The Chamber has one,
TheAsburyParkBoardwalk has one, ReVision Theater has one, The Wonderbar
has one as does The Stone Pony, you can get RSS feeds from
asburyboardwalk. I have been added to informational lists simply by
acknowledging the events hosted by the many artists whom participate in
this group.

As far as getting hits on your website, it really doesn't matter what
words are in your URL, do some research on Metatags. You can add
Metatags to your html and significantly improve the hits that you will
receive through search engines.

Welcome to the group,

Glenn

Exactly. Why pick on them? THEY took a risk - MM and Style.

They have a cool bathing suit I've been eyeing.

Yes, they took a big risk. Give them credit for that. Not
everything is going to be for everyone. If you don't like it, don't go
there! I just hope there are other types of boadwalk establishments
that are more boardwalk in feeling and style. I don't want to see
everything with the same high pried clothing store atmosphere. That
doesn't create the boardwalk magic of last night. Not at all. The
magic was brought on by the concert. Without it, the crowds would not

I live too far away to visit for just a show which is why I had asked

Not too long after I posed that question, the NY Times reported that

suppose that my question original question was quelled as I do not have
the clout of The New York Times.

Although I would have liked to have attended a performance, I was and am

Funny that you mention the performance in OG. During my last visit, OG

Wow, Charlie,

Your opinions seem to change more frequently than ocean breezes! It
was not too long ago that you claimed that there was so little to DO
on the boardwalk that people would not spend time there but would
move on to more exciting places. Tonight you are amazed by Boardwalk
Magic. Hmmm.

Possibly you are enjoying yourself more in Asbury Park recently.

The North Side of North Beach – Facing Ocean Avenue that you ask
about…. North Beach faces Ocean Avenue on the EAST side; get a
reliable compass! (Then again, sandpiper got west and east confused.)

I have been told by a terrific source that the residents in those
units took on a whole lot of water during the fiercer rainstorms this
year. Yes, North Beach is leaking and the work that you see is
correcting that particular problem. If people are complaining, there
must be residents in North Beach.

I took a tour of Wesley Grove this year, it is certainly not full,
but people DO live there.

Since neither of us live there, our place is to observe, comment and
appreciate.

There is only one Asbury Park and it does not have to be there for
everyone to enjoy. The people of Asbury Park are doing their best so
that we can enjoy their City.

As always, I encourage you to TALK with the people of Asbury Park
when you visit, you will learn many things. That's how I learned
about the leakage at North Beach – and that was over a month ago.

Remember – that nice Blue wall that you like so much might be a Red
wall tomorrow. Things change!

The ones built don't seem to be selling How does anyone figure
the massive amount yet to come will sell either?  We will just have
to wait and see how all that works out.
But, weather the condos come or they don't.  The magic going
on on the boardwalk tonight shows the condos have nothing to do with
it.  Condos or no condos, the boardwalk will always have stuff
going on.  So what if there are condos a few blocks away, or upstairs
on Ocean ave.  As long as everything on the ground floor stays
retail/clubs/entertainment then the area will always have stuff going
on.  We will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Jack, I understand your work schedule, but at my last tally, (a few
days ago) there were 339 NON-BOUNCING members in this group.

Not all group members are residents, but I am willing to bet that
many are.

Why is it that the many pertinent issues voiced in this group are not
voiced at the Council mettings? The educated answer to that is that
people are not attending.

I could take a day off monthly to drive down and hold hands with Rita
to loudly say WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? But I would not affect
anything because I am not a resident.

I do listen to the Council meeting minutes (thank you Maureen) and I
long to be a resident.

I did not intend to single you out Jack, I was just lamenting over
the lack of participation in the Council meetings in general.

Residents of Asbury Park, make your voices heard!

Here is what I can share:

-Sales tax at The Empress was $19.53 per night.
-Occupancy tax at The Empress was $13.95 per night.
The Empress sold all 101 rooms.

The promoters say that 3000 tickets were sold for Sand Blast on
Saturday. Even if 1/2 of those people bought Beach Badges at $5 per,
that would be $7,500

- No tax was charged for admission to Sand Blast, $10 of each ticket
was donated to the Human Rights Campaign.

- A $10 recommended donation was collected to those who chose to give
it at the Kick off Party on Friday night, I believe that the
donations went to the Asbury Park Marketing Committee.

The businesses on Cookman Ave. seemed busy, I am sure money was made
there. I wonder how many ices were sold? How many drinks were
purchased (LOTS).

The Host Hotel was The Berkeley, I assume there were similar taxes
collected there.

Great pics and it's nice to see the beach so crowded. I'm curious how
folks feel about that big blue screen that, according to your caption,
was put up so people who didn't pay to get into the party couldn't
see.

My comment was based upon a conversation that I was privy to between the
promoter and employees of Madison Marquette at the Wonderbar.

Did it cover just the area of the dance party? Or was it up all the
way
between CH and the Casino? Or even halfway? I guess if it was just
cordoning off a few dozen feet that's okay, but it wouldn't send the
best message if they start limiting the view of the Atlantic to the
privileged few. But again, the crowds were good.

It covered only the area of the 5th Avenue Beach. From the comments
that I am receiving on my photos, people liked peeking over!

Are those wood boards on top of the oceanside wall of the First Avenue
Pavilion going to become anything? I hope they're not sticking a
permanent bus shelter type overhang there. Retractable awnings would
be
better. Corazza needs a more lively color too. Maybe aquamarine for
the
 Blue Bishops?

I assume that you are talking about THESE boards (plywood):

a href=http://www.flickr.com/photos/dapaw/2690865640/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dapaw/2690865640/ title=Bodega by
dapawprint, on Flickrimg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3003/2690865640_b5b41818c2.jpg
width=500 height=375 alt=Bodega //a

Hard canopies, in a wave design are supposed to attach to the plywood.

It's cool to see the pride flags on the boardwalk. Does MM plan to put
other flags up throughout the season? Like these state and American
 flags http://www.asburyboardwalk.com/cards/asburyparkmarine.jpg the
city used to fly there? Or maybe flags of different nations during the
 Olympics? Might be nice.

I smiled when I saw this comment. At the Palace, on the Ferris Wheel,
each car was named after a popular city in the area. It might be a nice
nostalgic token for the developers to display flags reminiscent of that
memory. The rainbow flags are used at every Roadtrip. You have a great
idea there!

Re: The shipping containers. I love a good Cuban sandwich (Zafra in
Hoboken...m). But all the fake palm trees and colorful umbrellas
in
the world won't make these things look any less temporary and, thus,
schlocky. There's been talk of reviving the Circuit. Wouldn't putting
some of these businesses on Kingsley go a long way toward that end?
They
tore down the Flamingo anyway. They have the space. And what's going
on
with that blue shack behind the Pony that's been falling in on itself
for 30 years? These businesses could occupy those spaces, you get the
ratables plus foot traffic a block back, and you wouldn't lose the
sightlines or airflow from the boardwalk.

Werner would support your comments, the developers would not. It is
interesting that the laws for bicycles and animals are being enforced,
but if you look at the new signage, Mr. Bradley's law of No Alcohol
East of Ocean Avenue is not being enforced. Placing businesses on
Kingsley could allow the law to be enforced and create the foot traffic
and re-create the Circuit as you suggest.

But so as not to end on a downer, the Beach Bar looks very nice and
it's
heartening to see so many people and so many businesses in the CH
arcade. Reminds me of the old classic car and boat shows there.
(hopefully they'll bring those back. Along with the organ concerts
 http://www.ogcma.org/pages/organrecitals ! [;)] ) And that
sandcastle
workshop was a great idea. Anybody go to that? Any pics of the
results?

I regret not getting pictures of the sandcastles!

Good to see the volleyball nets up too. With Belmar seemingly intent
on
 alienating its traditional revenue base

http://www.newsday.com/news/local/newyork/am-jersey0718,0,1256772.story\
\
, maybe the AP Chamber of Commerce could start writing some friendly
 letters to the AVP http://web.avp.com/events/index.jsp?eventId=1027
.
 Just a thought.

Finally, you better be careful. With all the folks clamoring to see
the
guy with the duck, D-For could become the new Tillie! ;)

Haha - a woman came running up to us on Ocean Avenue - she was yelling
Oh, my God, Oh, My God!! When she caught up to us, she said I have
been hearing about you all day on the boardwalk (the duck was never on
the boards) and I HAD to meet you, you are more popular than Bruce
Springsteen! I just laughed.

 1. Roadtrip weekend: Interesting to see how the area where the event
was being held was blocked from general view. yes, some people will
be
offended but life must go on. Doesn't seem like that long ago, but
it
was, when the city held one of the first gay/lesnian parades on the
bw
and there weren't tht many merchants (around five of us) and about
10
people on the boardwalk. I remember this one mother grabbing her 2
kids and running off the boardwalk.

So why was the event hidden from general view - to shield the
event
from the public or to let the event be more private (other then
those
that stood o benches to get a peek..)

I believe that it was blocked to encourage people to buy admission
tickets so that they could see. I know that the City was not
approached for approval to erect the blue screen (the promoter didn't
know approval was required - that will change next time.) APPD was
telling the people standing on the benches that they could not stand
on them (many still did.)

 2. Storage containers: They are enabling a few people to runa
business
on the bw in a sixe that is actually right.
a)The organic folks extended their unit on the boardwalk with a guy
 making waffles / ice cream,

On Sunday, the Waffle guy was gone, but Waffles had been added to the
Organic menu.

b)What with the unit that looks like it became an office or a summer
house (next to the 4th ave pav), That's not pop up retail...
c)They need some more signage on them (like on the back)

Yes.

 3) who owns the mini-g - partners or is it leased out? Remember, the
city used to collect rent for the use of green spaces.

Good question.

 4) They need to sell beach badges down by first ave. One people walk
from one end of the BW to the other, they are less likely to walk
back. That hurts the guy trying down the other end for now.

Yes, I heard complaints in that regard.

 5) Bathrooms closed at beach bar for Rtrip - MM was putting up signs
on O. Ave Public Restrooms. Not sure of the porta potty really
counts. That really doesn't fit o the bw today. If you want to do
it -
bring in a trailer and park it and trhow some plants in front of it.

By mid-day, Convention Hall was opened so that people not
participating in Sand Blast could use the restroom facilities in CH.
The O. Ave sign lead to another sign on the boardwalk which directed
people to Convention Hall. There was also a Boardwalk Update flyer
available at those horrible white boxes with blue roofs (the info
boxes) which detailed what was open on the boardwalk and in the CH
arcade. The last lines of the flyer says YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE
