Might want to take a look at this: http://www.linuxcanada.com/quasar.html Haven't used it or heard much about it, just came across it when looking for a QuickBooks alternative. I did find this web page, but I don't know when it was last updated. It does list quite a few apps and a description of each. Re: Suggested module for PCI LAN Card..?
Yeah, since you beat my record uptime of 173 days and some odd hours you can now reboot. :) I have had good luck with 3com and d-link. Although d-link's that use the rtl8039(?) module is broken in kernel 2.4.2 to about 2.4.9(?). I know my d-link wouldn't transmit or recieve packets with 2.4.2 stock W3.1 kernel. I swapped it out for my 3com and it works fine. I've since upgraded to kernel 2.4.16 and haven't put the d-link back in to test it. Re: Printer on rampage
I think if you go to /var/spool/lpd you will see some rather large files with nonsense names. If you delete the files your printer will stop printing after it's buffer is empty. You will then need to reconfig the printer to print correctly. Jim On Monday July 02, 2001 1:38 pm, Glenn Williams wrote: > Hi, Group: > > My HP DeskJet 694C has gone mad. Fwd: Downloadable ISO images of OpenLinux 3.1 will be available for single user non-commercial use
Good news that was sent to the Caldera list. Jim -- Forwarded Message -- Subject: Downloadable ISO images of OpenLinux 3.1 will be available for single user non-commercial use Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2001 16:50:24 -0600 From: Porter Olsen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] All, I know this is SO late in coming, however better late than never. I want to offer my thanks to those who adopted a "wait and see" position. Even so, it's hard to blame those who jumped to conclusions because the timing on this was... well bad. Further, I want to give my assurance that Caldera values this list! I don't post because I can't speak for Caldera in an official capacity and I'm sure anything I said would end up being quoted as such. However, I follow the list and search it for pearls of wisdom from time to time (technical and otherwise). Caldera has no plans but to continue to support this list for the benefit of OpenLinux users new and experienced alike. I am confident this list will continue to be beneficial to Caldera and the broader Linux community well into the unforeseeable future. Porter Olsen Manager, (Linux) Technical Support Caldera International, Inc. "Unofficial" but validated e-mail from Dean Zimmerman, OpenLinux Workstation Product Manager: All, You might be interested to learn that we are planning to have the ISO images (That's the CD-ROM images) of the OpenLinux Workstation and OpenLinux Server products available for free download. The images will be available off the Caldera Web Store, and will be freely available as a free download on a single user, non-commercial license. The RPMs and SRPMs are currently available at ftp://ftp.calderasystems.com/pub/OpenLinux3.l , and have been for some time. OpenLinux Workstation will also be available for download through a link inside the Developer's Lounge. Making our Linux products available for free download has always been part of the Caldera policy. It is unfortunate that we were unable to make these downloads available at the time the products were announced. We want to encourage the download of these products by developers and our friends in the Open Source community. Because of the national holiday in the United States, I don't think we'll be able to post these images for download until next week, though it is our intention to announce their availability as soon as they are posted. thanx deanz --- -- 9:42pm up 4 days, 17:09, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 Running Caldera eD2.4 - Linux - because life is too short for reboots... _ Do You Yahoo!? Since I started this thread, I hope to end it by saying that I apologize to those that I offended and inconvienced. This was not my intent. My intent was to let those know that might have unsubscribed from the Caldera list due to volume and might still want to know this information. I made a judgement call and I didn't think it all the way through. I can understand Les Bell's objection to me doing this and I respect him and his opinion. He was correct in saying that it had been posted once to each list and I was just saying it again. I sent the original post before I read all my e-mail from this list. I'll refrain from jumping the gun and cross-posting in the furture. IIRC, you have to set it up similar to a usb hard drive/zip/ls120. This will give you the /dev/??? that corresponds to this device. Re: OV511 (USB camera)
Well, since I don't have the experience that you have with digital cameras, I'm glad to know that I'm wrong. I was going from memory on what I've read. This memory can be faulty. I've heard good and bad with devfs. I personally don't want to use it since some hardware/software want's to use the standard /dev/* and you have to create soft links to get some stuff to work. It's still too new but will be nice once it is fully designed and implemented and software supports it fully. Re: exucutimg binaries
In order to get rid of BM, you need to use a BM rescue floppy or BM installed on a windows partition. You will break things if you try fdisk /mbr from a dos/win boot floppy and if you try to overwrite it with either grub or lilo. Personally, I wish that Caldera hadn't offered it, but it was a stop-gap method when lilo had the 1024 cyl barrier. I don't know why they had it on eD2.4 since grub was offered and installed by default when one used Lizard to install. Is BM and/or PM offered with eW3.1 box set? If so, we'll keep getting questions and problems with people using it. I think Caldera was the only distro that offered this. Re: exucutimg binaries
Yeah, I installed it to when I first installed eD2.4, being a newbie convert and just reading the caldera manual that came with the box set. I wish I hadn't, but then again it enabled me to dual boot and get my feet wet with little to no risk. About 6 months after I installed eD2.4, my hard drive that had windows on it decided to corrupt itself with tons of bad tracks. I've been using eD2.4 since and haven't bothered even fixing the problem. Now, I'm faced with needing that 4gb hard drive on another box and I'll need to move /dev/hdb*(eD2.4) to /dev/hda* I'll probably do it when I upgrade/reinstall/repartition the drive for either eW3.1 or some other distro. I'll have to resurrect the drive with a low-level format. Does a low-level format(from bios menu-Award, I think) mess with the mbr? I think it would, but I'm not for sure. Re: Tarballs for KDE2.1.1 and OL 3.1
About 3 months ago when we were evaluating Sybil, there were some rpms for KDE 2.1.1 that were made. I don't have them. You can build them yourself if you want. Just grab all the source rpms for eD2.4/kde 2.1.1 and do a rpm --rebuild .src.rpm. This will put the rpms in /usr/src/Openlinux/RPMS/i386/* and you just do a rpm -Uvh --replacefiles *.rpm. IIRC, you have to do qt first, then either kdelibs or kdebase. One will complain about missing stuff and error out. This will let you know. Then you just rebuild the rest in no certain order and install all of them at once. Depending on the speed of your machine, it could take a while. Unless you can find someone that still has the Sybil built rpms for KDE 2.1.1. Jim On Sunday July 08, 2001 11:58 pm, Shawn Tayler wrote: > Has anyone done a steps to update OL 3.1 to KDE 2.1.1? One of them will complain, either kdelibs or kdebase, I can't remember. You need to do qt first and install it, and either kdelibs or kdebase(the one that don't complain) and then the one that complains will go just fine. I hope that made sense. Re: Tarballs for KDE2.1.1 and OL 3.1
I just got to thinking(yes, it hurt), and I think I have the 109 rpms from the sybil test box that I had built for a while on a 500mb hard drive that I put in there for storing data. I gotta put that hard drive in a box and see if they are on it. I'll post back here in a day or so and let you know. If I have them and somebody has enough storage space on the internet with enough bandwidth, I'd be more than willing to put them up for grabs. Re: Sylpheed test
Well, LART is an acronym for Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool(preferably something large and very heavy). I've seen this used quite frequently on the a.t.s.r newsgroup. This newsgroup is for Bobs and ex-Bobs that are recovering. A 'Bob' is a person that is in the tech-support field. For example, a lart would be applied by a Bob if a customer called to complain that they couldn't get to www..com and expected the Bob to fix it. Yes, the shop-talk that goes on between Bobs isn't very kind to the customers. I know, I was a Bob at one time. I'm still recovering. When I test an e-mailer, I usually just send an e-mail to myself and see what it comes back as. I've noticed that in Netscape Messenger you can tell quite quickly if someone has the line length set correctly or is sending in html verses sending in text with a line length of less than 80 characters. If you are leaving this list, I'm unsure why. You do contribute to the group and various discussions going on. I hope that you decide to stay and continue to do so. Usually, somewhere in the bios settings, you tell it how much system memory to use for video memory. Re: help with C/H/S in BIOS,LILO, and kernel
In the BIOS there are usually two places to set auto for detecting the hard drive. That's to get the C/H/S and to see what, if any, translation needs to be done. I've been told that this works. Haven't used it. Please read appropriate man pages. YMMV. You will need to add the correct /dev/hd?? to have it use the correct drive/partition. What you probably need to do is move $HOME/.kde2 to $HOME/.kde_backup. Log out of the user and log back in. This will reset all the settings and stuff for kde. If you are running squid, it came up in a recent Linux Advisory Watch(7/29/01). If you search for squid on securityfocus, it comes up. Now to figure out how it got there. Install the openssh rpms(if you are using Caldera, the rpms are on the ftp site under updates) and use scp and sftp after it's setup and configured correctly. There are SxS's on this, IIRC. I had this problem too with Rekall. Re: Dell.au not dumping Linux on desktops
Personally, I tell people to either buy a Dell, or have a good technician(such as myself) custom build a computer for them. Dell has been known for using good quality hardware and their service and support is probably the best(but not without flaws). Everyone of these people were relatively new users. Some of these users have since set their computer up to dual-boot with Linux. Unfortunately, this good hardware will be paired with upcomming version of that other OS, and I'll be in quite a quandry on what to recommend. Guess I'll be building more boxes for people. This is good to hear. I wish it were so here in the US. Yes, there are some stores that have linux distros & StarOffice for sale. The last Linux mag that had cds was Maximum Linux. It folded early this year. The other OS seems to have a stronger toe-hold here in the US than in other countries. But interest in linux from people that I know is getting greater. Dell-US might have to rethink this in a year or so due to increased demand. Re: Peculiar email received and backgrounds in kde
Congradulations, you have been a reciepiant of the SirCam virus. If you were running Windows and pulled this e-mail in via Outlook, it would have infected your system. It would have then e-mailed itself to everyone in your addressbook and also attached a random file from your hard drive. This file could have been anything from a personal memo to remember to get milk at the store to your personal financial records. But since you were running eW3.1, it is harmless and can't do anything to our system. This is making it's rounds on the internet. I'm running eD2.4 with 2.2.14 kernel. Yes, I know 2.4.7 is current, but I don't have any usb devices and plan on updating the kernel when I update the distro and hardware. :) What problems are you having with the cdrw drive? I ran Sybil for a couple of months and noticed that /dev/cdrom was pointed to the wrong device on install. As far as I know SirCam will not infect or affect Linux. I don't even think it'll drop it's payload file(if it has one). IIRC, it's just a vbs script that will infect MS Outlook. Re: cardreader and sound on WS 3.1
I've noticed that if you use -t vfat with vfat, fat and msdos loaded, it will choose which one it needs. At least I think so. The problem with loop could be the order that it is being loaded in relation to other modules. If you have /usr/bin/play from sox, try play foo.wav and see if you get sound as root. If not, something is wrong with the sound modules you are loading for the sound card. Re: pdf file viewer about worthless
I've had that problem too. I installed Acrobat Reader 4.0(or it was installed initially). It's in the Utilities submenu of KMenu. I've just had to open up the pdf file in that to read it. I think that there was some format changes between pdf 3.0 to pdf 4.0 that made it incompatible. I think the pdf viewer is written for version 3.0 or missing something important. Re: I installed kde2.2
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. I just gotta figure out how to get KDE2.2 on eD2.4 without totally fubaring KDE. Then again, I'm probably going to upgrade(clean install) of W3.1 or SuSE 7.2, I haven't figured out which yet, when I upgrade my hardware in a week or two. I've heard of various problems/bugs with KDE2.2. I'd still like to be running it. Most of the problems that I've heard were due to the packaging by distros that broke things. KOffice 1.1 is scheduled to be released this week, IIRC. I don't know if they have exporting of Word doc files working yet or not. Good luck. Another great article by D.E.P.
Here's another great article by dep. http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/opinions/3751/1/ I've helped 2 of my friends install Caldera eD2.4. One is using it on a sporadic basis, just testing the waters, not doing anything critical yet. He's hooked on Shisen-Sho though. And the other claims he doesn't have the time to learn it. Another of my friends wants to try a dual-boot on his machine when he has to format/re-install windows next time. Most of the people that I know know that I run a Linux distro. I've had them ask plenty of questions about it. I've tried to answer them to the best of my ability. I've only been running eD2.4 since April 2000 and I've seen Linux grow by leaps and bounds. I tell most people that if Linux doesn't do what you want now, wait 6 months and it probably will(unless you are a programmer and want to code it yourself). Re: Input for a FAQ
I've proposed something like this to a couple of KDE mailing lists. While it got warm kudos for the idea, getting it implemented was a problem. I proposed that it become a section in the KHelpcenter. Titled: How do I? This would have the 27 questions and others with instructions in plain english(or other languages) and pretty screen shots as to how a very new user can accomplish a given task. I think this would be a great addition to KDE. Unfortunately my knowledge of how to implement this is lacking in the necessary skills. Here are some other questions that I've thought of and have had posed to me by new users. How do I change my background? How do I change my screensaver? How do I add/remove/move icons on the bottom panel(Kicker)? How do I find a file? How do I import/install a new theme? Hope this helps. I hope it can at least be a new addition to the SxS. Some of this stuff will be KDE/Gnome/Other specific. Therefore I think that there should be primary sections in there for each Desktop/WM. IMHO, the organization should be as such: SxS Index How Do I? (and other FAQs) KDE 1.x How do I? #1 How do I? #2 etc. KDE 2.x same as above Gnome(different ones if needed for each wm used) XFCE Enlightenment These will be primarily used for KDE 2.x and Gnome since they are the primary desktops used by new users. As you can see these questions will not contain anything that is currently in the SxS. These questions will be targeted for a very new user of any Linux distro. Granted instead of a SxS, I would like to see it integrated into the KHelpcenter where it would do the most good. If anyone wants to take my idea and start coding the project, feel free. I'm sure that the same could be done for Gnome and others. Re: Another great article by D.E.P.
If you are referring to questions once a new user looks at a Linux distro for the first time(or tenth time), please see my post in the FAQ thread. If you are wanting questions about people that are curious about linux, then here are some with some of my answers. Can Linux run program XYZ? This is where I lead the discussion to the programs functionality rather than the program's name. I tell them about program ABC in linux that can do the same thing in much the same way, unless the program has been ported over to linux. Can I keep Windows? Will it interfere or otherwise mess up my Windows install? Most people that want to test the waters when it comes to linux, still want to have a working and fully functional copy of Windows. You just need to explain dual-booting and partitioning in very simplistic terms. Only recommend Win4Lin or VMWare if you are positive that all their windows software will work in that environment. Will my (insert hardware here) work with linux as well as it does in Windows? Unless you know for sure, do some research and find out. Before they install any linux distro, make sure that their sound card, video card, modem and printer are compatible. Nothing is more frustrating to a new user to be told after the install that they can't get out on to the internet or hear any sounds unless they buy a new modem and sound card. Tell them first that their winmodem and integrated sound isn't supported and they need to upgrade to be able to fully use linux. Is linux really more secure than Windows? I tell them that any OS is only as secure as the person Admining it. You can install any Linux distro, turn on every daemon and service, not run a firewall, and not update any security patches and you will be rooted in a short time. If you don't run any service or daemon, keep up on security patches, and run a tight firewall, the chance of being rooted are slim. I'm reminded of the article that dep wrote saying that connecting any OS to the internet comes with a certian responsibility to make sure that it's secure. I'm sure that there are other questions, if I think of more, I'll e-mail them to you. On the Time & Dates tab, you need to click on the ? button by the minimize and close button in the upper right then click on the appropriate box in the window. This will give you a list of formatting codes that can be used. I've noticed that %I (capital i) and %l (lower case L)are very close, notice the spacing between the percent and the letter. My Sentiments on the WTC attack
I got off work yesterday morning at 7am, went to a local diner for coffee and breakfast, then came home to read some e-mail and go to bed. I caught some of the early e-mails on this list and was shocked into disbelief. I was finally able to get to www.cnn.com and read what they had to say. I don't own a tv and haven't for 5 years(I'd rather spend the money on new computer hardware). I'm currently working at a Speedway(gas station/mini-mart), looking for IT work in this area. I got to work at 10pm and noticed that the lot was packed and traffic was backed up for at least a block or two. The guy that I relieved said that it had been that way since about 2:30pm. Some people have been spreading FUD that gas was going to hit $5USD per gallon the next day. The Speedway that I work for had dropped prices 3 cents that afternoon. I was very busy till about 12:30am when we ran out of regular unleaded and plus unleaded. We only had the premium unleaded left. The price of premium unleaded was $1.84/gallon. Up the street about 5-6 blocks our competitor had regular unleaded at $1.99/gallon. This is an inexcusable act by gas companies that I hope will be punished by the federal government. As I sat at work last night, I thought about the various e-mails on this list stating what should be done and I remembered the words of Yoda(SW: EP1) "Fear leads to anger...anger leads to hate...hate leads to suffering...". We as Americans need to make sure that we keep our emotions in check when we are talking about the retribution for these heinous terrorist acts. There is a difference between swift justice(military or judicial) and blind attacks of revenge. We need to find out who is responsible and once that is conclusively proven, punish them for these acts. This will include those countries and governments that harbor these terrorists. The terrorist attack on the Pentagon is considered an 'act of war'. This phrase, 'act of war' was used by President Bush earlier today in a news conference. While some of the American public wants any/all Middle Eastern countries bombed, the American government is trying to find out who is responsible and then deal swift justice for these terrorist acts. My opinion is that the terrorist group responsible doesn't want to claim responsibility because they realize they have "woke a sleeping giant". These words were used by the Japanese admiral that attacked Pearl Harbor. Americans don't take kindly to being attacked on their own home soil. Nothing will galvanize the american public in to action more than that. I was reading the local paper this morning and it stated that at the end of a news conference by members of the House and Senate, the lawmakers broke into a moving, impromptu rendition of "God Bless America". We as Americans stand united against these terrorists, regardless of political affiliation, race, or color. I want to see justice served, not blind revenge. Re: My Sentiments on the WTC attack
Yes, life, as normal as possible, must go on. To let these terrorist attacks stop the US and other nations in their tracks would only give them a victory. Yes, we mourn the loss of lives and the senseless destruction of property, but we must go on with our lives. If you want to help, give blood(if you can), donate money to a legitimate charity(Red Cross) to be used for the victims of this tragedy, put a flag up(whatever your national flag is) to show support for your government. I bought 2 flags to put on the pillars of my porch. When i hear stories in the news about the volunteers that showed up at the site of the WTC shortly after the attack just wanting to help in any way possible. I heard of a story of a construction worker that was nearby that walked off the job to help rescue people and help with the wounded. He was interviewed by a TV reporter and he said that he saw combat in Vietnam, but this was worse than anything he saw there. I heard that on the flight that crashed in PA, that one person called a loved one to say goodbye and stated that there were more of us than there were of the terrorists and they wouldn't go down quietly. I heard(unsubstantiated) that on one of the recorders in the cockpit that it sounds like a fight had ensued. Quite possibly the passengers were trying to take back control of the aircraft and for some unknown reason it went down. Maybe we will never know exactly what happened on that flight in the final minutes. These people are the real heros. I'm sure that there will be other stories in the news like this as time goes on. The US has banded together as one nation with one goal in mind: Justice. This is the reason that I'm proud to be an American. I'm also proud to see countless other nations backing the US in it's endeavor to bring the terrorists to justice and wanting to help with the cleanup in any way possible. Re: new vmware install karks it.
I'd use soft-links 'ln -s', but I'm not sure it will let you do a soft-linked directory within a soft-linked directory. If there isn't any thing that will prevent you from doing that, that's what I'd do. Yes, this is a quick and dirty solution. The other way is to edit the perl install script. I don't know perl. Glad you got it working. When it comes to perl, I can read a perl script and get a feel for what it is supposed to do. As for editing/creating a perl script, well, I don't have a clue. Re: CNN poll
Please note that the following is my opinion. I've heard plenty of people complain about the loss of certain 'liberties and freedoms' recently. Whether this is concerning the tightened security at airports, AOL and Earthlink cooperating with the federal investigation, or other related matters. Ladies and gentlemen, we are at war(whether you like it or not). The enemy still has troops at large on American soil. Where they could strike next is anybody's guess. This war is like no other war that Americans have ever fought. We are used to wars being on other people's soil and the loss of lives being from our military. Americans have been spoiled lately by the unprecedented liberties and freedoms that we have enjoyed in recent years. This will be a time for us as Americans to sacrifice some of these freedoms and liberties in the name of security. Freedom doesn't come without a price. America is a unique country in that these freedoms and liberties can and will be reinstated once the enemy is defeated. I took an oath to 'protect and defend the US' and served in the US Air Force for four years. I gave up some of my liberties and freedoms so that my fellow Americans can enjoy being secure. Once again, I'm called upon as an American citizen to make some sacrifices to ensure the security of my fellow Americans. I'll gladly make these sacrifices to make sure that you are secure in your work place, your home, on your streets, in your skies, and in your favorite restaurant. This will not be a permanant loss of freedoms and liberties, but only until the enemy is defeated and we as American citizens can feel secure once again. The alternative is almost frightening. I don't want America to become a battleground where the enemy can strike at anytime, anywhere and without warning. For the freedoms that we will enjoy in the future, I'm willing to pay the price needed and make those sacrifices now. Re: AT&T USB Ethernet device
Quite possibly this uses the pheonix kernel module. You will probably have to recompile the kernel and hope it works. YMMV. An easier solution would be to buy a PCI ethernet card, install it, remove the USB one and configure it to work. You just have to figure out if the time you take to get the USB one working is worth the $20 that it cost for a PCI ethernet card that would work without a problem. Re: CD-RWs
I have a Yamaha 4x4x16 that I purchased 2 years ago and it's burnt hundreds of cd's and it's still going strong. I'd recommend a Yamaha or Plextor. Most low end burners are reboxes. They are made by someone else(one or more companies) and then have a different faceplate, sticker and box put with it. HiVal is one such company that does this. As for the burn-proof, this is supported by the latest version of cdrecord. As for the LiteOn or LG being any good, well, it's a crap shoot. If you buy a Yamaha or a Plextor, you will know for sure that it's quality merchandise and won't have any problems with it. I'd do some more looking around if I were you. I've only heard of one of them, IQuest. I worked for a competitor that was bought out a few years ago. Of course, what I heard was negative. The company that I worked for was better than all of the competitors, or so they thought. If Ameritech offers any internet service in the area, I'd stay away from them. They are still having problems even after being in the news for slow repairs, upgrades and installs. Do you plan on going the traditional 56k, cable or dsl? Did you do a ./configure? What options did you use, if any? I'm having a problem with KDE 2.2.1's Konqueror working with https sites(online banking). Could this be the problem or could it be another problem? Currently, I'm using NS 4.77 to do this and it works. Re: KDE 2.2.1 Konqueror and .htaccess passwords
Ok, I just compiled it and copied the file over last night. I'll be testing it soon. Would have been nice to know about how to just compile kdesud, my poor P200mmx computer got pretty beat up yesterday compiling kdebase. :) When I updated from KDE 2.1 to KDE 2.2.1, I just ran the rpms in runlevel 3. Would going to runlevel 3 and removing the DCOP and MCOP files in /tmp hurt anything? I also left my ~/.kde2/share/* alone. I've emptied the cache with the button in Konqueror's config panel, but maybe it's not deleting all the files. I'll try cleaning some stuff up and see if that helps. Re: replacing win98
If you need any help finding/installing it, let me know. I just did this and it's a little tricky. Ok, here's a quick SxS. - Download korelib tarball and kapital rpm for distro. - Untar korelib, ./configure, make, make install - Edit /etc/ld.so.conf. Add line: /usr/local/lib. Run ldconfig as root. - rpm -ivh --prefix=/opt/kde2 kapital-demo???.rpm Notes: You can change the --prefix to where ever kde is installed. The initial screens are covered up by the annoying Kapital splash screen. This can be remedied by moving/resizing the screen out of the splash screen's way. This is a very dumbed down demo. Some features will just send you to the Kapital web site when clicked on, but you can get the feel of how it will work. Re: lost rpm command repaired.
If you search for kio_rpm at apps.kde.org, you will find a kio slave for Konqueror that will do the same and possibly more, not sure. Oops! That's what I get from going from memory. Here's the link: http://apps.kde.com/nf/2/info/vid/4650 Jim P.S. I just wanted to make sure it was in fact called kio_rpm and I wasn't having a memory leak in my brain kernel. :) On Sunday, December 02, 2001 11:13, Peter Ruskin wrote: > On Sunday 02 Dec 2001 14:15, Jim Conner wrote: > > If you search for kio_rpm at apps.kde.org, you will find a kio slave > > for Konqueror that will do the same and possibly more, not sure. > > > > Jim > > Thanks for the tip Jim. Re: rpm wackiness
You might want to upgrade to rpm 3.0.6. This is compatible(AFAIK) to rpm 4.x and might fix your problems. What it'll take to do this, I'm not sure. I know that 2.4.15 had this problem. I thought they fixed it with 2.4.16. Re: Kernel build 2.4.16
I'm currently running W3.1 with kernel 2.4.16 and ext3. All I had to do was upgrade e2fsprogs to 1.25 and compile ext3 into the kernel(not a module) and it worked. I tried to compile util-linux and it didn't work. I can't remember the error, but I didn't do it. Currently only having a problem with my ide cdrw. I'm gonna save that for another post.
