[newbie] Xine: Error reading NAV packet.
Finaly I've got my hands on Monty Python's Holly Grail special double DVD edition. I put the first disc in my DVD player. Run xine... and I've got 'Error reading NAV packet'... I've checked log : audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 0400 audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 0200 the rest seems to be all right. all the plugins are found etc... Does anyone knows what might be the problem or any other good dvd player for linux which can handle dvd menus (unfortunatelly mplayer can't)? -- Cezary Morga ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) GG# 169903 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? I have gone to over a dozen different sites and downloaded numerous different versions of Xine, CSS, dvdnav, etc and not quite sure which ones I'm suspose to use. RE: [newbie] Xine - update
I think that's just the version of the VCD specifications. FYI: *ver 1.0: Karaoke CD specification, MPEG-1 data in tracks *ver 1.1: Video CD: as 1.0 but chapter marks and multi-volume album facilities added *ver 2.0: Video CD: addition of stills, generic menus, playlists, closed caption text. Xine should have no problems viewing it. I've recently burnt my own VCDs using Nero on Windows, it does them as VCD2.0, both a DVD player and Windows media player played it so Xine shouldn't have any problems at all! Tho I haven't tested it using Xine, I'll give it a go when I get home tonight. Re: [newbie] Xine - update - resolved
Just want to say thanks to Pilaga, Jamie and Stephen, whose patient help has finally got xine playing every dvd I own, including now the two Chinese vcds. It turned out to be the /etc/ld.so.conf which was incomplete. I had added the plugins/1.0.0 directory, but not the two subdirectories of it. As soon as I did that everything works. Maybe it's even just some bad leftover symlinks. This can happen if you install from source or use a packaging system that doesn't clean up previous installations thoroughly enough. Remove all older xine libraries manually (rm $prefix/lib/libxine*. and while you're at it, throw away any old plugins in $prefix/lib/xine/plugins/ as well, just to be safe.) Anne, I've tried several different DVDs, none of which work. The problem I'm having is that when I run Xine, I don't even have the option of playing a DVD (on the GUI), just a VCD and a DVB (whatever that is). When I install the dvdnav package, I have the option of playing a DVD, but all it does is just open the DVD menu, all garbled and mangled, and refuses to play any of them. Hey Anne, Thanks for the reply. No, I don't mind an off-list post whatsoever, and welcome it. I read through the attachment you sent, and I was completely baffled by what it had to say. From what I could make of it, I do believe I have what is needed to play DVDs on my laptop (as I can play DVDs using Ogle or VideoLan), just not Xine. From what I've seen, Xine looks to be the best player out there, and I would love to give it a chance, if I could get it working. But alas, perhaps I was never meant to get Xine working. I still welcome any more suggestions to try and help me get over this very big hurdle. Thanks! :-) Terry Anne Wilson wrote: On Tuesday 21 Jan 2003 3:44 pm, Terry Sheltra wrote: Terry Sheltra [EMAIL PROTECTED] Terry, I don't know whether you've come across this, or whether it will help. It would be nice to be able to program one of those free buttons to that, but what the hell - if I get it to work, I'll not complain at a little c/l :) I just have decrypted somes dvds (Lord of the Rings and somes Thelonious Monk movies) to see what is going here, Anne. Re: [newbie] Xine
Is this something that may have changed from the past? Even before when I tried to use Xine (and I couldn't get it working then either), when I would install the d4d or the d5d package, it showed up in the UI as an option. I'm in the same boat with this, all I get to choose from is VCD and DVB. Even using the MRL link, I can't get it to recognize a DVD, much les s play it. The only way I was able to get DVD to show up in the UI was to install the dvdnav package, but all it would do is play the intro of a DVD (garbled and mangled), and then show the DVD menu (all garbled and mangled). The only truly successful program I've been able to get working with any DVD is ogle. Even then, I wish more of the UI buttons worked (why no stop button??). I'm not giving up on Xine yet, and would love to get it working. Re: [newbie] Xine
Well, at least you can say you've seen it work :-) ... I'm curious now .. All of the people I've seen (that I recall) that have/had Xine working seem to have been overseas from me. Is there anyone here in the US that has Xine (mdk, plf RPMs, or even compiled .. I couldn't get the blasted thing to install after compiling) working? I'm starting to wonder if it's a locality thing now. Hey, I know it's far-fetched, but it's my turn to try grasping at straws :-) Anne Wilson wrote: On Monday 20 Jan 2003 1:49 pm, Terry Sheltra wrote: Is this something that may have changed from the past? Starting xine gives me the copyright warning, and lists the first track, but doesn't play any further. I ran the command you gave, but it suggests that I still have parts of the old version there. Perhaps that's what's causing the problem. Anyway, here is the output (I left out the first few lines that don't help much - they were all OK). I do hope you can advise me. you have MTRR support and there are some ranges set. [ good ] found the player at /usr/bin/xine [ hint ] multiple xine executables found in your PATH I have found more than one occurance of 'xine' in your PATH: /usr//bin/xine /usr/bin/xine You have probably installed xine-ui more than once, or the directory where you have installed xine occurs more than once in your PATH. Technically, this is not really a problem, but it's probably somewhat confusing, as it's not obvious, which xine you're using. You should probably uninstall the copies that you don't use... Further tests assume, you're using /usr//bin/xine [OUCH!!] no xine-config on this machine. This means that xine-lib is either not installed or it is installed in a very unusual place. It would be wise to add this command to some script that is executed executed at boot time. Note that you probably have to set the DMA mode for your drive as well. Most DVD-ROMs work fine with multiword DMA mode 2. You can use hdparm -d1 -X34 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd (as root again) to set this mode. Maybe UDMA2 will give you even better performance, but it only works well with some controllers. You'll probably need UDMA capable IDE cables for this mode. If you want to try: make backups of your important data and type (as root again) sync hdparm -d1 -X66 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd If your System still works fine after this, you probably want to keep these settings (add them to some boot script). If your system hangs or behaves very strangely after a few minutes, you should reboot immediately and never use this setting again on this machine. My setup is Mandrake 8.2 with Mandrake and PLF sources for xine, and that works. If you have xine-dvdnav installed from the Mandrake CDs you could try xine -pq -s DVD dvdnav:// from the command line. (The -pq is optional.) Since xine is a multimedia player it needs some kind of clue about the medium you are accessing. That is where MRLs come in - Media Resource Locator(?). The gui does have a comprehensive setup panel but as far as I can see does not provide an option for specifying DVD play by default - dvb and vcd must be built in defaults. I always attach the above command to a GNOME panel icon. Maybe you can do the same in KDE or modify a menu entry. You probably don't need to uninstall anything either. [newbie] Xine/Kxine?
Greetings, I wonder if someone could explain to me just exactly what Kxine is? I know that it says in the description that it is a graphic frontend for Xine to integrate into KDE. I already had an entry in my KDE menu for Xine, so what does Kxine do that Xine can't, in relation to KDE? I installed Kxine, and now I have Xine and Kxine in my menu :-/ I tried to gain understanding from Kxine's Handbook, but the writers are obviously practical jokers or something. (eg. Kxine is an application specially designed to do nothing you would ever want. from Kxine Handbook pg. 1) Any further enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. Enquiring minds want to know ;-) TIA. --Angus Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness.--James Thurber *** *Reg. [newbie] Xine question...
I looked thru the archives, and on Xines' Sourcforge site, but couldn't find the info I wanted... I did install all the plugins that came with Mandrake 8.2. Is there a plugin for Xine that will allow it to do menu navigation like Ogle? I did figure out how to use Nav to pick individual files) Also, on some of my DVD's I get a no Xine plugin for Ts.vob or something like that... Is there a plugin for that as well? Thanks all! PS Ogle works great here, on 99% of my DVD's but I wanted to get Xine fully working so I could do a head 2 head comp. The DVD's that Ogle won't do here are: Legend of Hell House (sits forever, choppy video) Ghostbusters (can't launch movie - but can play individual scenes) Arrival 2 (Arrival 1 on the flip side works great - go figure) Jackson County Jail (sits forever, can pick scenes but never starts them) -- /\ DarkLord \/ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
