I have a different configuration but, initially, I had a similar problem I think. Since my two boxes were linked to a router which was, in turn, linked to the internet, when my second box was trying to access the web server of the first one, actually it looked liked it was accessing itself (because of the router). It did not work for me, sorry. When I add a new host to the sss.default-vhost.conf file, it appears in WebMin as just another virtual host which manages the named virtual host. Actually, the only way in which i can use HTTPS with my Apache 2 system is by using https://localhost/; and this makes use of the default vhost present in the ssl.default-vhost.conf file. Clearly this prevents me from accessing my WebServer from another machine by using HTTPS. Also, one strange thing is that when in Webmin I try to use the SSL options associated to any virtual host, the SSLEngine on directive is properly written in the Vhost.conf file but apachectl is unable to restart, i.e. this directive makes httpd2 not able to start. Now, it seems to me that this should be something very basic... i.e. HOW COULD I USE HTTPS on a Virtual Host! [newbie] UTF-8 with AwStats
Running awstats I get few annoyances due to the presence of some northern-europe characters in the awstats configuration files. So, the reports I got generated contains lines such as Malformed UTF-8 character (unexpected non-continuation byte 0x6d, immediately after start byte 0xe4) at /usr/share/awstats/lib/robots.pm line 413. Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Stefano e vi srivo da Bologna. Ho installato tepo fa Mandrake 8.2 ma fin da subito ho avito problemi con il floppy e i cdrom. Ogni volta che tento di accedervi compare una finestra che mi nega l'accesso, dicendo che non ho i permessi per accedere. Gli how-to che ho consultato in proposito dicone si tratti id un reale inconveniente. Così ho deciso di disinstallare Mandrake 8.2 e di provare a installare la versione 9.1 per vedere se cambia qualcosa. Avrei bisogno di sapere che cosa devo fare, passo passo, per disinstallare Mandrake 8.2. Sulla mia macchina ho 2 hard disk: uno con wn 98, l'altro con mandrake. Help me please! Anch'io uso alsa ma lasciandogli oss non ho avuto problemi. Comunque o glielo dall'interfaccia grafica (ma mi sembra che non tu non riesca a farlo partire) oppure modifichi ~/.xine/config alla voce audio.driver devi mettere alsa09. Comunque poi dovresti modificare le altri opzioni che si riferiscono a oss; il consiglio è di leggerti le pagine di documentazione di xine. Sigh! con alsa09 non funziona! se do auto viene convertito in null e và, oss non và! documentazione ho trovato solo man xine e non mi è stato di aiuto!

Pensavo che Xine non funzionasse e poi lanciandolo da terminale ho scoperto che abortiva per problemi audio, disattivato OSS Xine funziona ma non sento nulla C'è modo di fargli usare il sistema audio configurato che penso essere alsa!?! PS legge tutto ma mi sembra che lavori al ralenti e la mia macchina non è sicuramente sotto dimensionata (2 AMD 1800, 512 di ram Geforce 4 con 32 mega!!!), cosa è che non fila!!!

Collaboro con una rivista di settore (non informatica!) e gli articoli la tipografia me li inzia in qxd (Xpress) o pdf. Se io li modifico devo inviare le modifiche per email tipo ( pagina 2 terza riga il numero 2 dopo CO deve essere spostato in pedice e diminuito di gerandezza) non vi dico i casini! Ho provato a convertire i file pdf e correggerli e riconvertirli ma loro non possono ricaricarli in Xpress (il filtro pdf è solo in uscità!) Se io potessi elaborare il file Xpress ad esempio con scribus e riconvertitglielo sarei MOLTO felice. Qualcuno conosce filtri di conversione o prg che efettuino questo servizio!

Per lavoro utilizzo ogni tanto dei Data Base. Ho iniziato con DB3 poi Paradox per DOS poi attualmente Access. Vorrei fare qualcosa con Linux ma non conosco i prodotti che ci sono, chi mi manda un link pewr un buon tutorial in italiano e lò'indicazione di una interfaccia per gestire un DB con Linux?

I tried restarting apache with # apachectl graceful and then opening my browser but it didn't work and I had to reboot - then all was well. Ieri sono riuscito ad avere finalmente montado il floppy E' bastato controllare in KUSB che device vedeva (sda) con floppy su e floppy giù! Modificare fstab con dev/sda e il gioco è fatto. Spero che possa servire a qualcuno.

Ciao a tutti! Ho cercato di installare la Mdk 9 sul pc di un amico, che mi sembra sia un P4 con 256M di ram, una scheda video NVidia MX... insomma, non e' un pc cosi' vecchio o con componenti strani. Al boot dell'installazione pero' il sistema si inchioda caricando il kernel e dice che si becca un Signal 11 per via di un probabile problema hardware oppure di un bug del kernel. Ho dato un'occhiata alle impostazioni del bios ma non ho notato niente di strano: il timing della ram e' automatico, il pc non e' overcloccato... Ho provato con versioni precedenti della Mdk: la 8.2 e la 8.1 ma il risultato e' lo stesso, quindi mi sembra improbabile anche un bug del kernel, che molto probabilmente sarebbe stato sistemato. Credo si tratti di qualche problema hardware, ma non so cosa andare a controllare!! Qualcuno ha dei suggerimenti o mi sa dire dove trovare qualche informazione su questo Signal 11? Grazie mille! Allora il problema forse l'ho capito, il perchè no! non si caricano i moduli, infatti ricaricandoli a mano parte il tutto. Try, in the folder which has to hold subdirs, to set its name with a trailing /. Something like myfolder/. This is consistently working for me. [newbie] GIF and JPG in Konqueror for MDK9 - freeze ?

Bela, seems Evolution is more clever than Mozilla/Netscape. According to a quick test I did, you create a normal folder, let's say aa. Immediately, you create a new folder bb as a child of aa. It seems that aa is converted to a Directory and bb is included in that directory. In Mozilla, you have to instruct to create a directory immediately. I guess that, if you create aa and, before creating bb you store some mails into aa, this may not work. /Stefano P.S.This is some reason to migrate to Evolution for me. This is what I may do as a last resort. But, isn't this a SW problem? I mean, it was working with MDK 8.2 and is still working on dual boot with NT4. What I mean is: what is the reason for doing an HW manipulation? What could this HW manipulation change and how could it affect a positive solution of my problem? Literally, take out the screw holding the card in place, and lift out the card - try not to touch any electronics or the connector edge while handling it. Thanks a lot for your patience. /stefano If you want to dig around and try to locate all the modules that could possibly be tainted from the upgrade, by all means - this is just a simpler solution - to allow for MDK to first acknowledge the hardware's gone (physically)...then after cleanly rebooting, to use plug and pray to find the card and install the current drivers...but hey, it's just a quickie solution...I'd rather spend the 15 minutes doing that then spending the next four days banging my head against the wall trying to get it to work... Scusate ma ho un piccolo problema. seguendo il mixcro howto masterizzare..., ho modificato lilo, rilanciato, lanciato il insmode (e provato anche il modprobe) sempre come detto nel mhm, modificato il modules.conf come indicato in CD-Writing-HOWTO. Ordunque non ho nessun device scsi in dev, oviamente scd0 e scd1 non esistono (sarebbero dei SL a file contenuti in /dev/scsi/) e questa directori è vuotà!!! Come crearli! Dov'è l'errore?

Dopo essermi cosparso il capo di cenere ho downloadaTO I TAR scompattati, maketizati e installati e vuoilà ho il logo NVidia sul mio Toshiba Satellite 6100 Professional Ora ho NVidia anche sul PC Home anche se ho dovuto pasticciare un pò coi file Tar non avevo sistemato il kernel e per disinstallarli (non sapendo come cavolo fare con i tar) ho sovrainstallato l'equivalente pacchetto rpm ottenuto dai sorgenti in rpm con rpm --rebuild, MIRACOLO prima di fare un bel urpme ho dato un init 6 e RIMIRACOLO avevo Nvidia sul HomePC. Ri, Rigrazie. PS: E' stranamente lento la fase di lancio di X con diversi secondi di nero molto preoccupante, però dopo il logo che saluta è consolante.

N.B. estrema attenzione perche' (se usato in modo improprio) xvidtune e'
un comando potenzialmente distruttivo (del monitor in particolare).
Puo' darsi cmq che sia un problema vero e proprio di frequenza, in tal
caso prova a cercare in rete se ci sono le specifiche del display del tuo
modello.

Hai scaricato dei file che NON vanno bene per la tua distribuzione!!! Ero convinto che fossero per MDK 9.0 come detto ina email trovata con GOOGLE||| * devi eliminare la roba che hai installato * devi scaricare i due sorgenti _.tar.gz_ (i sorgenti sono gli _unici_ a poter essere utilizzati in qualsiasi ambiente senza doversi preoccupare di dipendenze e bizzarrie del pacchettizzatore .rpm di turno e degli sviluppatori del kernel -mdk) * e li devi scaricare dal sito _ufficiale_ (da siti di incerta provenienza in linea di massima e' meglio diffidare a meno di non avere la matematica certezza che siano attendibili, affidabili e sicuri e che mettano a disposizione quello che serve) * devi compilarli e farli installare secondo le istruzioni (che ti sintetizzo: make install, e gli script richiamati dal comando faranno tutto il necessario). file ci sono delle incongruenze: Section Module Load glx # 3D layer Questa riga ... Section Device Driver nv O installi (ricompilandoli) i driver proprietari NVidia (e sistemi il file come dicono le istruzioni relative) oppure lasci quelli tradizionali di XFree86, lasciando le righe che appaiono nell'XF86Config-4 iniziale, ma evitando di caricare glx (per il quale servono le librerie Mesa, in assenza di meglio): in ogni caso _non_ vanno mescolate le configurazioni. Con l'aggiornamento alla 9 i pacchetti xfree86* hanno sovrascritto anche il file di configurazione. La prossima volta cmq, prima di aggiornare, fai una copia dei file di configurazione importanti modificati. P.S. Il grosso problema e' che quando si sono installati i driver proprietari e relative estensioni GLX e' praticamente impossibile tornare indietro ai driver di xfree. Pensa che io avevo formattato anche la partizione / e /usr e anche /var lasciando attive solo /opt e /home, non capisco come possano esserci dei residui del tentativo non andato in porto di installare i driver NVidia, tenendo conto che tra l'altro dopo quel fallimento la 8,2 funziava Adesso è tutto una esplosione di righe veloci e multicromatiche!

controlla che esistano /dev/dsp e /dev/mixer esistono proprietario mio utente gruppo audio (a cui mio utente appartiene) permessi 600 poi controlla che abbiano permessi 666 (o che tu appartenga ad un gruppo, es 'audio' che può scriverci, in questo caso vanno bene anche 660) [in questo caso, però, root dovrebbe poter accedere al dispositivo 'negato' all'utente ] poi controlla che il modulo della tua scheda audio sia stato caricato con lsmod 8139 carico e pronto! con lspci vedi il tipo di scheda, cerca quindi in modules.conf e in lib/modules/versione/kernel/drivers/audio un modulo con un nome simile al dispositivo che monti se hai i moduli questi vengono caricati, hai il dsp, hai i permessi di scriverci, allora controlla di non aver settato in modo eretico il tuo kde... Sono ebete lo ametto però io non capisco il mio sistema che a volte cambia senza apparente motivo (caso strano con aggiornamenti o altre operazioni sui pacchetti! ;] ) Ordunque la scheda audio on Board era stata riconosciuta e configurata bene, tutto funziava (con esclusione del DVD e del masterizzatore usati come riproduttori di CD musicali mas forse dipende dalla mancanza del cavetto che unisce la periferica con la scheda audio). Adesso il suistema non parla e quando parte KDE mi dice: Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver: device: default can't be opened for playback (Unknown error) The sound server will continue, using the null output device. Da quando ho istallato MDK 9.0 funziona tutto - sia XINE che MPLAYER - per tutti i tipi di filamato (compresi i divx ). Anzi funziona pure la navigazione dei DVD (ho pure caricato ogle. consiglio: meglio la MDK 9.0 (non ho toccato, nè configurato niente. Ha fatto tutto da sola, salvo mplayer che da rpm è facilissima). Invece ho il problema contrario con la 9 ho perso Xine e non riesco a installa re mplayer ne ogle! Che rpm hai usato (scaricati da dove!!!) Perchè URPMI non mantiene le sue promesse!

apm nel bios non l'ho trovato; è un PC multiprocessore (2 Atlon 1700), quindi parte con linux smp. per quello che so (ho tutti i server senza supporto apm, quindi non ho mai provato a forzare ) supporto multiprocesore e apm non vanno d'accordo... tratto dalla ML [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... to quote Linux's Alan Cox on one thread over SMP vs APM problems and hacks that partially work under Linux: APM will never be SMP safe, the problem is at the BIOS level not Linux Ovvero che problemi avrebbe il Bios? Vediamo di dividere la mailk: l'altro è un fisso W2K spegne (non standbaizza), linux non spegne neppure. forse non usa apm (hai visto nel BIOS?) o hai compilato senza supporto apm, o hai il supporto al multiprocessore attivo (errori comuni) apm nel bios non l'ho trovato; è un PC multiprocessore (2 Atlon 1700), quindi parte con linux smp.

[newbie-it] Poortatile monitor TFT
Ho preso un toshiba sat 6100. Il monitor è, come in oggetto un TFT 14.1 1024*768 Non riesco a configurarlo con XFdrake, non sò che monitor scegliere, con tutti ho un fastidioso (non definizione) effetto. Non conosco neppure le specifiche per editarle nel file di conf! Chi mi può aiutare?

I installed 8.2
and I found it great. Samba was configured in a minute and was working perfectly
(shares and printers).
I do not know why
I wanted to have a look to Webmin I just had a tour without changing
anything in the "Samba" section From that point, the printer got an "Access
Denied, Unable to connect" error (adding "use client driver = Yes" simply
removed the warningbut I cannot actually use my Linux printer from my
Windows 2000 machine)... and also I cannot write anymore to my shared drives
("Access denied: the source file may be in use" but it is not in use
!!!).
Any idea how to
"undo" what I did in Webmin? Apparently the smb.conf was not modified (I saved a
copy of smb.conf of a situation in which Samba was
working...)

Ispell è il dizionario che ti permette di controllare l'ortografia durante la stesura di un testo. Per abilitare questa opzione in kword vai in Impostazioni -- Configura Kword. da lì ti sbizarrisci.. Vale. Mi associo alla richiesta di aiuto, anche io ho grossi problemi, mi dice che non è nel pacth dell'utente (ma cosa deve esserci e dove!?), non riesco ad usarlo in kmail, kedit e abiword.

Prova a farlo stando sù con Gnome, poi scendi e risali con KDE. Lo sconsiglierei. Gnome, comunque, carica componenti di kde, per esempio per far funzionare gli applicativi kde dentro Gnome stesso. Dovrebbe caricarli solo a domanda, perciò se non usi elementi kde dovresti essere tranquillo.

Daai ragazzi, non ci scaldiamo per cosi' poco...! Personalmente non vedrei l'ora di sbarazzarmi di windows 98, perche' questo weekend ho dovuto reinstallarlo per l'ennesima volta (quando si incricca e' irrecuperabile!!), ma devo mantenerlo per via di due IMPORTANTISSIME ragioni: 1) I giochi - S, lo ammetto, sono un viscido amante del regno ludico! 2) I programmi di composizione musicale - Non ne ho ancora trovati allo stesso livello per Linux. Al di la' di questo pero', a cosa ti riferivi, Vaiconlinux, dicendo che le distro fanno acqua? E' vero che ultimamente sono saltati fuori un po' di allarmi dal punto di vista della sicurezza, pero' sappiamo che questi problemi affliggono ancora piu' pesantemente Windows e comunque Linux ha dimostrato di essere un sistema potente, affidabile e altamente configurabile. Ciao a tutti! Scusate la domanda un po' idiota, ma voi come fate (se lo fate) a salvare, da un qualsiasi sito internet, su HD una pagina completa di tutte le immagini? Mi riferisco alla funzione Salva come pagina web completa di Internet Explorer? Io non ho trovato questa possibilita' in nessun browser (mozilla, netscape, konqueror), e salvare la pagina completa immagine per immagine a volte e' un po'... come dire noioso? Grazie. Ciao, verifica il fuso orario. Probabilmente uno dei due è errato é probabile anche che linux utilizzi l'orario GMT in maniera non corretta compare una domanda a tale proposito in fase d'installazione, ma non saprei dirti una volta installato dove andare a mettere le mani...

Salve, se ricordo bene dall'ultima volta che l'ho fatto win98 dovrebbe trovare quella partizione fat ed installarsi li' senza protestare. Occhio pero' che win98 non ha pieta' per il master boot record : lo cancella ( compreso il lilo od il grub in esso contenuto ). In pratica una volta installato il win98 al reboot compare solo win98 . Bisogna provvedere con un floppy di MDK a ripristinare l' MBR desiderato. ( se pero' si intende avviare linux da floppy ... non si pone problema ). Visto che ci siamo, quindi se gli dico che puo' correggere cio' che ha trovato eventualmente danneggiato non puo' fare danni a linux.Giusto? Luigi basta che non gli fai correggere i dati nel MBR, la tabella delle partizioni e cose simili, suggerimento valido soprattutto per gli antivirus per il resto finchè sta nella sua partizione può far danni solo a sè stesso

file system non è assolutamente necessario ne conveniente. mah, io lo uso su un vecchio portatile e non mi ha dato nessun problema Penso sia molto più importante avere un sistema operativo veloce e robusto questo é un altro paio di maniche, effettivamente la mkd installa (anche senza chiedere) tutta una serie di cose la cui utilitá é discutibile =) un conto sono i fronzoli, un conto le cose utili... ciao stefano

stavo cercando di compilare xine dopo avere lanciato ./configure, mi appresto al make quando a un certo punto compare il seguente errore /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext collect2: ld returned 1 exit status devo installare qualche libreria? ciao stefano

scusate se mi intrometto a thread già avviato, scherzi? ogni consiglio é piú che ben accetto!! comunque dopo aver essermi spaccato la testa sull'how-to relativo allle schede pcmcia ho scoperto che il problema era nella configurazione della memoria... é bastato mettere i dati che avevo salvato prima di eliminare windows e ora é a posto (la scheda, non la connessione in rete... quella non va ancora, ma non dispero =) ciao stefano

Non viene riconosciuta o non viene vista? non viene vista... e se tento di configurarla a mano non trovo neanche il modulo per la scheda in questione, ma solo quelli per le schede normali, non pcmcia (ehm... potrei essere io che non so dove guardare) Se non viene vista potrebbe essere sufficiente attivare il giusto servizio dal centro di controllo. ma... pcmcia e network sono attivi entrambi, eppure =( Hops, sembra che tu sia mio vicino di dipartimento giá giá =) ciao stefano

Qualcuno mi può dire cortesemente cosa devo fare ? Grazie Fer La cosa migliore e' compilare un kernel di versione successiva a quello che utilizzi normalmente. Questo perche' i moduli che compili vengono messi in /lib/modules/versione del kernel, quindi se compili una nuova versione tutti i moduli vengono messi in una nuova directory, e quelli vecchi vengono mantenuti intatti. La compilazione viene fatta con la successione di comandi make dep make clean make bzImage make modules make modules_install oppure su una sola riga make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install ...e' equivalente. Alla fine di tutto arrivi ad avere tutti i moduli che sono installati nella loro directory, il file System.map nella directory principale dei sorgenti del kernel ed il file bzImage nella sottodirectory arch/i386/boot. Questo bzImage e' il kernel che hai appena compilato e devi copiarlo in /boot assieme al System.map. A questo punto configuri Lilo (se per questo ti servono altre informazioni facci sapere) e rebooti. Ciao.
