Please report back on their response to your questions. I would be interested in doing something like this in Fermanagh, but have a few questions on how they collected the data from the public. I was thinking of approaching DARD to directly involve farmers, there might even be EU funding for this kind of historical data collection. Let us know how you get on! Re: [Talk-de] Start-/Landebahn
Okay, soweit klar. -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/POIs-di-rilevanza-storica-tp5830059.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

A occhio direi male. -- Giacomo Boschi ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Secondo me sì. [Talk-gb-westmidlands] Nominatim results
I've been looking at Tipton since it got a mention in #osm-gb IRC channel for a note being added near Staffordshire. http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/details.php?place_id=114798 Nominatim is using old county place nodes which pre-date the boundary relations to determine the county. Some counties have such a node, some don't, and Kent has two, so I removed the Staffordshire node after moving the GNS information from the node to the relation, and that shifted Tipton to Worcestershire. I did the same again for Worcestershire, and it now shows as Warwickshire, with a couple more distant place nodes showing as the next likely ones that will be picked should I carry on down this road. So I figured I was addressing (no pun intended) the problem from the wrong angle. I then noticed the West Midlands mentioned in the nominatim results is admin level 5 not 6, so the European region, not the county. I then read Wikipedia a bit and discover that the West Midlands is effectively a county without a county council, which is perhaps why the boundary relation for the county was switched to ceremonial, causing all the strange nominatim results. Wikipedia suggests that with the abolition of the county council, although a few services are still organised county wide, that each former district is effectively a unitary authority. If so, then like for Southend-on-Sea, their boundary relation should be updated to admin level 6, rather than being left at admin level 8. This should result in nominatim reporting Tipton, Sandwell rather than picking the nearest county node. However, perhaps you've all discussed this before and there are local things I'm not aware. Indeed I lived in the West Midlands when the county council was abolished and didn't even notice... So I thought I'd pass this over to you all to discuss to see whether you thought the admin levels would be more appropriate set to the level of unitary authority rather than county district. Ed PS: I'm not sure either why the admin level 5 relation links to the German Wikipedia rather than the English one. http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/57517 http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/151283 ___ Talk-gb-westmidlands mailing list Talk-gb-westmidlands@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb-westmidlands

This mapper just registered today. Even though he managed to 'destroy' some data during his first attempts at editing the map, I believe our first priority should be to welcome him in our midst. The second step is show him the light and explain what JOSM is and how it's far superior to iD, LOL. If the data is terribly disrupted, it's relatively easy to revert the edit for really serious cases, especially when no further edits have occurred yet. Losing/alienating 'fresh mapper blood' is a much bigger problem. So it's important we're as constructive as possible. It's a community project and we desperately need that community to grow bigger. For a first time user, his edit wasn't actually _that_ bad. The shape of the buildings was far better than mine, so I kept that. We have to seize the opportunity on the OpenData conference in Namur to get fresh blood in and warn about ID editor, promoting JOSM. I only used the reverter plugin less than 5 times in all those years, this one wasn't one of them. I tried to keep the good work, correcting the bad. I always try to invite these users to the mailing list and point them to the documentation on housenumbers Sander wrote. Glenn On 14-01-15 19:03, Jo wrote: This mapper just registered today. Considering your feedback we will bring the new bylaws to a vote by the OpenStreetMap US membership after January 20th. Any director may be removed with or without cause at any time during his or her term at any regular, special or annual meeting of the members, by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of all member (this used to be ) 4.8 - Ability to form committees including executive committees - this is fine as it's in-line with the laws of DC and not something that the previous Bylaws prohibited 4.9 - this is new and will help us with gaining 501 c3 status: Directors cannot be paid for their services to OSM US but may be reimbursed for expenses 5.6 - Quorum. At meetings, a majority of the directors then in office or a majority of the current members shall be necessary to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. - this is better than todays rule which says a quorum is determined at the beginning of a meeting (VII/3) 12.1 - Dissolution - this is an important change for us to be able to attain 501c3 status: Current bylaws say upon dissolution, OSM US assets go to OSMF, new bylaws say shall be disposed of in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, Section 501(c)(3) of the Code - which de facto ensures that OSM US assets remain in a 501 (c) (3) non profit. Re: [Talk-it] Limiti di velocità
Re: [Talk-GB] Fwd: What are you mapping and have you fully though through the implications of bad data ?
OSM's model of creating objects is somewhat different from traditional map making, drafting and cartography (and the data that nowadays creates these). Whereas OSM started by creating feature centrelines and defining a width etc at the render stage most traditional mapping and cartography thinks of edges, the edge or a road (kerb), or edge of a building etc. Now of course OSM has developed over the years such that we now draw quite a lot of edges (coastline and river banks and building outlines being examples foremost in my mind) especially where a centreline just doesn’t cut it but OSM is not really every going to be a good representative model for the very detailed accurate type of edge based maps that the OS supply for engineering and planning purposes (MasterMap). We could add kerb lines and other edge limits to OSM but it's never going to be achievable globally so little benefit in doing it locally unless you have a specific desire and reason to do so. -Original Message- From: David Woolley [mailto:for...@david-woolley.me.uk] Sent: 14 January 2015 08:07 To: talk-gb@openstreetmap.org Subject: Re: [Talk-GB] Fwd: What are you mapping and have you fully though through the implications of bad data ? However, if we just go by population, the map ends still ends up rather sparse, making OSM look undermapped. Most rural counties have a center of commercial activity, often the county seat (or a former county seat). Even though its population may not reach 10,000, it's significant enough to be labeled at the same zoom levels as those that do. For example, I made an exception for Hillsboro, OH. [1] Nowhere else in the county comes close to its population of 6,605. As a county seat, it has its own daily newspaper, radio station, fairgrounds, general aviation airport, high school, and two U.S. highways. I cite attributes like these in the changeset comment or note tag whenever making an exception. [1] http://osm.org/relation/183049 There are some CDPs though that would be a city by population alone, but really don't have a true city feel, and cartographically would look bad as being a city on a map. The tricky one is Glen Burnie, sprawl area south of Baltimore with no urban core, yet the pop is over 65k. It is marked as a city now, but really should be town I think. I like your one city per metropolis idea. In suburban areas, even a city in the official sense may lack a downtown core. But yes, if you'd consider Glen Burnie to be subordinate to Baltimore, place=city is probably too prominent. You wouldn't consider any town to be a suburb of Glen Burnie. The unincorporated places I referred to the other day are different than CDPs. They came from the GNIS database and likely originated as century-ago post offices, cemeteries, or railroad stops. Wikipedia and the Census Bureau are mum on most of these places, but it's entirely possible that they're marked on the ground with signs. I haven't heard back from the mapper who made them into towns, but I'd like to revert their changes soon. Fortunately it was just a misunderstanding. They explained that place=hamlet appeared wrong, since no one uses the word hamlet in this part of the country. They're using mostly Potlatch 2 and JOSM. P2's basic mode does have human-friendly preset names, but none of the popular editors attempts to bridge this particular Britishism/New-Yorkism. As the Open Charge Map data is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 it is not compatible with the OSM license so it is unlikely I can import data from OCM to OSM. However, would it be an acceptable practice to tag a OSM node with a reference tag... perhaps ref:ocm=* with the OCM reference number?

Pieren ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr
