Spell checker

2012-02-17 Thread Tony Hoare
Hello Tbbeta,

This is not new but I would like to request that the spell checker
considers semi-colon as part of a word for correction purposes. It
easily mistyped with single quote on a UK keyboard.

I have typographical suggestions set ON in SSCE. Hunspell is grayed out.

Just for the record, Microsoft Word does this.

Thanks.

Spell Checker: Hunspell

2011-06-03 Thread Dierk Haasis
Hello TBBETA Members!

Bring me up to date, a while ago TB made use of Hunspell beside
their own option. I did install it, and as far as I can see it is
still installed [Hunspell.DLL in TB directory] but TB does not use
it - at least all options on its tab are greyed out.

I only stumbled upon this because I find the German checker used
[SSCE] deeply lacking in helpfulness, it doesn't know many words,
has major trouble with word forms and seems to not know the basics
of German morphology. In short: it has much too much false
  positives.

Resultant question: Anything wrong with my Hunspell installation?

Bonus: If any programming resources could be freed up by scrapping
the German spell checker in favour of working on, say, Global
View Modes - RITLabs, do it.

4.2.10.12 spell checker

2009-09-19 Thread Graham
Hello tbbeta,

It seems the spell checking is, for me, totally useless.

It does not spell and asks for a language - but how can that be done when there
is no option for language. I tried altering the options which just revert to
nothing selected and moderate fast - if I change this then i get an esception
error!

Spelling worked previously but now is a disaster - or is it only me?

Best regards, Graham

I have since fully closed tb and suddenly it all works again! Strange
tho' - I leave TB up all the time and only close it to change betas -
it seemed as though all reference to spell check, languages etc did
not exist thus my query. Despite my trials, without closing, all the
spelling options resulted in access violation or repeated requests for
language but no way to get at a spell language.

Anyway - thanks to your responses it prompted me to close tb and
problem solved -

This obsession with non-html use - I started life as a programmer back
in 1966 so html is not something I promote when it comes to email and
data transport but you know things have changed - even tb caters for
html and bandwidth is not the issue it used to be - i receive 50
emails of spam daily and all are html but i live with - maybe tb
should think this way too after all it is the information that matters
and html does add a lot so time to re-think - nay you are probably
older than me!

Hello Hendrik,

French spell checker does not work in MicroEd . In Windows Editor it
 performs correctly.

It may not be a problem with the French spell checker but with the
engine itself. This morning I noticed a problem with Spanish, it wasn't
automatically checking and didn't mark any word as misspelled. I forgot
to try with Windows editor, but a re-start of TB cured the problem.

The biggest problem I have is that the userDic.tlx dictionary is only
accessed if American English is used. If British English is used, any words
added do not go into the userDic.tlx but go into the main sscebr.tlx
dictionary, and these additions sometimes get lost when a new TB version is
installed. I know this because I copied everything from UserDic into sscebr
when using 4.0.18.3 and used this arrangement successfully. The copied words
have disappeared in 4.18.5.

4.0.14.9: Spell checker stopped doing its job

2008-03-01 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I have not had any issues with spell checker for some time but, a while
ago, I was writing mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED], a
reply to Marek, when I noticed that no typos where being underlined in
red (I normally use 'Automatic checking').

I only use CSAPI Spanish and British English and SSCE American English.
When this happened I was using CSAPI BR. I switched to Spanish and AM,
separately and simultaneously, and no change. No red underlines.

I then tried 'Check entire text' (F4) and every single word was taken
as misspelled but the 'Spell checking' dialog was not offering any
suggestions. I also noticed no dictionaries were listed to 'Add words
to'.

As you can see in attached PNG, the Edit Dictionaries dialog did not
list any dictionaries either.

I had to re-start TB to get spell checker to work again.

4.0.14.3 Spell Checker issues - resolved

2008-02-20 Thread Graham

 Hello,

Seeing Ian Pollards success I decided to follow his steps.
Previously I had gone through the un install and reinstall process with
no success. I had also been reluctant to use the restore as reports
of errors with this have been reported but this was the only
difference in approaches.

So,this time I deleted the TB application data, un installed and reinstalled
back up to
4.0.14.3 but and used restore.

Result - SSCE fully working as far as I can see with or without
Hunspell.dll

The restore failed with no url manager list and addresses history

Initial difference in application directory was the new install had
no cache dir.

Clearly somewhere along the line the application data must have got corrupted
to affect the SSCE engine.

Thanks to Ian and Miguel for his help and patience in this but for TB
programmers there must be an error which occurs under rare occasions
causes this, but is there yet to be found and resolved.

Best regards, Graham

As I said in a reply to Graham in this same thread, no one can assure
there is nothing wrong with the SSCE engine. But the fact that it works
for most makes it more difficult to find why it fails for some,
specially if developers can't reproduce the failure.

BTW, when you say it doesn't work, does it mean that it doesn't mark
 any words as misspelled?
It doesn't work means it just ignores some misspelled words i.e Thiought is
ignored. I checked the word list in the dictionary and it is not there so there
is no reason why it should not flag it. As far as the registry export is
concerned, I don't see anywhere to attach either this file or the jpeg of my
options for you, but I do have them both if you need to see them

Hello Henk,

BTW, when you say it doesn't work, does it mean that it doesn't mark
 any words as misspelled?

 Hello Miguel,

I hope you don't mind stepping into this thread but this is exactly what
happens on my side when I upgrade from this version. As well for the rar
 as for the msi versions.

Why should I mind? Not at all. I assume it happens no matter if you do
'Automatic checking ', 'Check entire text' or 'Check before send',
correct?

Hello Ian,

BTW, when you say it doesn't work, does it mean that it doesn't mark
 any words as misspelled?

It doesn't work means it just ignores some misspelled words i.e Thiought is
 ignored.

You see, this is why I think it is important to 'define' what 'doesn't
work' means and why I insist on it. I have just replied to Henk M. de
Bruijn and, in his case and pending further clarification, it seems that
that 'text is not being checked at all' (like if there was no speller),
while in your case you say that just ignores some words which, to me,
means that the speller _is_ running but it 'makes some mistakes'.

I checked the word list in the dictionary and it is not there so there
is no reason why it should not flag it. As far as the registry export is
concerned, I don't see anywhere to attach either this file or the jpeg of my
options for you, but I do have them both if you need to see them

Now, here is something I don't understand. If you followed my
instructions, as you said yesterday, I assume you only have the
American English (SSCE) which is installed by default are testing with
it, confirm? If so, where and how did you check the word list in the
dictionary? Because the Ssceam2.clx dictionary is not a text file,
the Ssceam.tlx is is.

Well, here is one that 'apparently' it doesn't work with, the new

4.0.14.2: Spell checker not working. I have seen it happen!

2008-02-19 Thread MAU
Hello all,

Yes, I have. I was writing my second reply to Maggie Meister when I
realised the spell checker wasn't working. To be coherent, I should be
a little more specific and explain what I mean by not working,
shouldn't I? ;)

My facts and what I observed was:

- I normally use 'Automatic checking' with CSAPI British English.

- While writing to Maggie I made an outstanding typo and noticed no red
underline, it wasn't detected as misspelled.

- I visually checked what I had already written and found a few other
typos not flagged as misspelled either.

- I double checked to see if I had 'Automatic check' selected as, due
to testing and the fact that menu icon may be a bit misleading because
it includes the red checkmark, I would not be the first time I had it
not selected. But it was. So, hey! My spell checker wasn't working!

- I then tried Check entire text (F4) and, to my surprise, this would
find every single word as misspelled (actually as 'Not in dictionary'
in the Spell checking dialog) but it did not offer any suggestions for
replacement, the 'Change to' and 'Suggestions' were completely blank. I
also noticed that 'Add words to' dropdown was also black when it usually
shows my CSAPI user dictionary for British English.

- A problem with CSAPI perhaps?

- I switch to SSCE American English only with same results. No
misspelled words if 'Automatic checking' and also exactly same results
if 'Checking entire text'. And this was with SSCE now. H!

- I closed the editor and opened a new window with same results. I did
try this several times and... spell checker not working ;)

- Finally, I re-started TB and everything is back to normal. So, go
figure!

The one thing that may be important to highlight to Rit guys is that
both CSAPI and SSCE suddenly ceased to work, which may point out to
something common to both engines.

Quite obviously, if I see it happen again, I will try to figure out
what was I exactly doing to see if I can repeat it at will.

What I have now found is if you choose Plain Text (Windows) or switch among the

What the heck does now my spellchecker is working again mean? Yes, I
know. You type misspelled words, they are detected and you can correct

dozen beers it is either Hunspell or CSAPI and not SSCE, correct?

If you remove SSCE5532.DLL (the SSCE engine) from The Bat! directory,
then there is no way TB can use it and the SSCE spell checker will not

This whole thing of spell checker(s) working/not working is quite

Totally agree.

for me --

Hunspell only (SSCE5532 extn renamed from dll to make it
inoperative) then spell checking works in every way, no problems

Hunspell disabled (extn renamed from dll) and SSCE5532.dll only
words with a combination of numeric and alpha are underlined, all
other words (right or wrongly spelled) are ignored (no underlining if
wrong spelling).
Options all left blank. Dictionary - EnglishBR
changing options has no effect except for the ignore words with
numeric which does correctly ignore them.

Other speller not an option for me. (does not exist)

My conclusion from this is that SSCE5532.dll is effective since it finds
numeric/alpha errors and reacts when option to ignore this is
selected.
My best guess is that during initialisation process settings are being
corrupted.
What causes this in just a few systems is the hard bit.
Maybe some other programs are corrupting these
settings assuming they are held in the registry.

I do accept resolving this is difficult unless you have a system with this error
but I cannot believe it is due to the normal installation process as that is
under the control of the msi installer.

I am happy with Hunspell but there is a genuine problem to be sorted.

Best regards,
 Graham

Hello Ian,

OK, if you did (i.e uninstalled, deleted registry key, etc., and did a
Custom install with only Core), let's try to pin it down a bit more.

Please export your HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT key, rename it as .txt
(to avoid the risk of some one double clicking on it) and either post it
here or send it to me by PM so I can compare it with mine to see if
there any differences that could be significant?

A screen capture of of Spell Checker Options dialog would also help.

Hello Ian,

snipped quite a bit

One thing I did try was to install an earlier version of The Bat!,
but I could not. When I start after the installation confirms I have
installed the earlier version, the splash screen and Help|About both
still show 4.0.14.2. Then checking Add or Remove Programs sees two
 offending entries there.

Be patient for a few minutes, I'm looking at all dirs and registry
attachments sent yesterday and will be suggesting what to do after I
have breakfast.

Re: 4.0.14.2 Spell Checker Issues

2008-02-17 Thread MAU
Hello Ian,

I have attached a folder listing of the The Bat! program folder.

M Can you attach (or send by PM) the listing of Speller and Dictionaries
M directories?

M Also, can you export and attach this Registry key?

M HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\SpellCheck

 Here are the files.

OK, here I am. I'll try to respond to your different issues in this and
other threads.

First of all I must say that I didn't find anything that I can say *is
wrong*. Specially in regards to dictionaries, your registry entries do
match the dictionaries you have in the Speller directory.

However, there are a number of things that make me wonder how you have
been doing upgrades along the years. For example:

  - In Speller directory I see dictionaries with dates as old as 1996
and then for many different years up to 2008. While all of mine (from
the last IntPack) are dated 29/08/2007, except the user ones which
may have been updated by the program (my userdic.tlx is dated
  11/02/2008).

  - Your 'readme.txt' file (which contains the list of changes since the
very first release and which hardly anybody reads, BTW) in The Bat!
directory is dated 14/10/2007 while, if you had installed 4.0.14
correctly is should be dated 06/02/2008 or so. Have you had a look
at it? If so, its contents should start with:

  ,- [ ]
  | The Bat!
  | Copyright (C) 1997-2008 RITLABS S.R.L.
  | Version 4.0
  |
  | What's new in The Bat! 4.0 (comparing to v3.99.25)?
  `-

Also, your 'licence_pro.rtf' file should have the same date.

Now, before telling you what I would suggest you do now, I'll tell you
how I go about upgrades to newer versions and, specially, about Beta
versions.

Look at my program dir attached and notice the dates. I always try to
keep it 'as clean' as possible. What I do is:

  - For new versions with an MSI installation file, I do a Custom
install and only install the Core files (no languages or
dictionaries). This way I have the UI in English, the only one I use,
and only the AM (SSCE American English) dictionary, which is installed
by default along with 'accent.tlx', 'correct.tlx' and 'UserDic.TLX'
  user dictionaries.

  - If, for testing or any other reason, I want to install dictionaries
for other language(s) I 'install' the latest International pack in a
*temp* directory and from there I copy the desired language
dictionaries to the Speller directory. The next time TB is executed
will create the corresponding Registry entries. Similarly if I want
  to remove a language I don't use.

  - For Beta versions from *.rar files, I extract then to a temp dir,
rename them to include the version number, *copy* them to the TB
directory and then create a shortcut in my desktop. You can see this
in attachment. This way I can easily switch versions for testing, and
always have the last 'release' version (thebat.exe) available without
  needing to reinstall it.

  - You will also notice that I have a 'Disabled' directory. This is
where I Move anything I want to remove from The Bat! directory before
actually deleting (even to the recycle bin).

Now, what I would do if I was you is:

  - First of all make a back up copy of your complete MAIL directory.
Not a backup with TB, copy the whole tree somewhere else or ZIP it up.

  - Make a copy of of your 'user' dictionaries in Speller if you have
  added any words to them.

  - In another thread you say that your 'Add or Remove programs' in your
Control Panel shows two different installations (3.99.29 and 4.0.14),
which also makes me wonder how you have gone about upgrades.

 - Try to uninstall 4.0.14 using the 'Uninstall' option. This should
remove program files only, but not used data (messages, address
 books, configurations files).

 - Then, if v3.99.29 still shows in 'Add Remove programs' try to
uninstall it also. If it doesn't work or gives you some error and
it isn't removed from 'Add Remove programs', try the 'Windows
 Installer CleanUp Utility' suggested in
 mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 - If your 'The Bat' directory is still there and it is not
 completely 'clean', delete it.

 - Although I don't think it is absolutely necessary, delete your
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT key. You may want to export it and
save it for a 'just in case' of for 'reference'.

Finally, I would suggest a new installation of 4.0.14 (if you haven't,
download download the MSI for pro AND the International Pack.

  - Do a 'Custom' installation as I explain above and only install
Core. This will give you the English GUI and the American English
dictionary to test if the speller (SSCE engine) works.

  - During installation, select the home mail directory to where ever
  you have it.

  - If asked to create an account, do so with a name you haven't used
before. You can delete it afterwards.

  - Once installed, open

I do hope this uncovers something but I do have to say that the dates
of files are much the same in my dir and these were loaded direct
from the TB pro msi. I have tried using just the BR ones and same
result so I think the cause is not in these files.

I am still of the opinion that there is something wrong in the SSCE
engine. Reason, when I only use SSCE and make sure Hunspell is not
there the spell checker finds words containg numeric. So, 44ffg is
found as is ffg66 but ffg is seemingly correct! This indicates to me
that SSCE engine is processing the words but for some reason
internally not correctly.

It is a frustrating mystery but hopefully in time the reason will be
found, I do hope so.

Please don't think I am attacking your analysis, it is because of you
I have a working Hunspell and happy with that.

Re updating, I am very new to TB and so have only had the last
version of v3 and have updated with v4 as it came along and betas. The update
process is what I do for all programs so if there is a quirk in this
then TB had better sort it for new sales.

What seems very strange is I see reports of SSCE giving problems
with capitalisation yet for me I cannot reproduce this but it is with
numeric combinations.

I have also seen others complain about the 'spelling' saga but if it
doesn't work then it needs to be kept prominent so that eventually it
gets attention from the TB programming team.

I have tried almost every thing you have suggested and but for
manually modifying the registry, which I do not have the skills or
understanding to do, though I do use a very good registry clean
program (Ace utilities) to correct obvious registry errors.
Possibly, this could be a cause but I suspect others do not use this.

Your help is much appreciated, believe me,

TB! uses SSCE5532.dll in the TB! directory for access to the

No, you would have to delete the registry key first. Before you do

Yes. I have parked the message with the registration key. Now is the

Hello Graham,

And that's all. As I said in my first message, if this helps at least
one of you, I'll be happy :)

Thank you for describing what is required to get spelling to work.

Despite all your efforts I cannot get it to work.

That's strange.

In line with your advice I can confirm I have all the files you
mention for SSCE and english (BR) selected.

Again, strange. What options do you have ticked for the SSCE engine?

Following your instructions I added Hunspell (dll was already there
 but added other files)

Why did you do that? Did you somehow 'disabled' SCCE first? Otherwise,
you are just adding more variables to your 'problematic environment.

What 'other files' you added?. Just the dictionaries for BR?

I use MS Word 2007 and so no CSAPI - maybe this is the problem?

No, the fact that CSAPI is not available should be no problem for SSCE
to work as it should.

OK, all appears correctly set up but it refuses to work

frunt lok (these have no effect as being mis-spelled)
99ggg 444ggg (these are underlined in red but only for numeric followed by
 alpha)

Spell cjhecking is a must for me and I am deserate for a solution, I
should add that untill V4 (all versions) it did work

I have copypasted your four lines above in my editor window and all
misspelled words are flagged correctly. And I have tested, ONE AT A
TIME, with the three engines.

 Anymore ideas, help!

Not at the moment. I would anyway suggest trying an engine at a time.
And I would try to get the SCCE one to work first. Hunspell seems to
work fine too, it is the dictionaries that may make a difference. In my
case, I tested the Spanish one and it is quite poor.

How-To get the 3 spell checker engines to work - Part 1

2008-02-09 Thread MAU
Hello all,

Although Spell Checker is working for most of us, everyday I see that
one or more of the three engines (SSCE, CSAPI and Hunspell) is not
working for some.

The SSCE engine is the one that has always been included with TB and
the SSCE languages (dictionaries) in the Pro version and International
Pack.

TB has always (or at least since a long time ago) supported CSAPI spell
checker and languages from MS Office 97. My understanding is that only
Office 97 engine and dictionaries can be used, but I am not 100% sure
about this.

Now, the latest release (actually since 4.0.0.17 ALPHA) also supports
the Hunspell engines and dictionaries and the fact that you can select
and use two or more languages simultaneously, and from any of the three
engines (See All_DICs.png)

One important thing to understand and remember is that you do not
select 'dictionaries' for spell checking, you select 'languages'. And
that if there are dictionaries for that language from different
engines, they will all be used. In this case, the rule is: as soon as a
word is found correct by one of the dictionaries, it is considered
correct (even if another dictionary wouldn't consider it as correct).

Because of this is why I made a comparison of the Spanish and Britis
English dictionaries for the three engines.

You nay have seen my mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] in
which I compared the Spanish dictionary of the three languages. That
obviously meant that I had the three engines running.

Currently I have four languages installed:

  America English (SSCE)
  British English (SSCE)
  Spanish (CSAPI)
  Italian (Hunspell)

As you can see in All_Dics.png I can even select and use them
simultaneously, and they do work.

But to prove that the three engines work and they all find misspelled
words and suggest corrections, I have also attached a screen shot of
each. You can see the language being used in the status bar and the
suggestions for a misspelled (in that language) word.

Mainly because of the limitation in the size of attachments that can be
sent to the list, and perhaps for the sake of clarity, I will follow up
with three more messages (parts 2 to 4) explaining my set-up for each
of the engines.

If this and following messages helps just one of you to get your spell
checking to work, I'll be happy :)

How-To get the 3 spell checker engines to work - Part 2 (SSCE)

2008-02-09 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I'll try to be brief and clear.

The SSCE engine (SSCE5532.dll) is installed with TB

I have TB installed in: C:\Program Files\The Bat!

And the dictionaries in: C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Speller

They MUST be in your ...\The Bat!\Speller

This Speller directory MUST include these three files:

  userdic.tlx
  accent.tlx
  correct.tlx

and then a pair of .clx and .tlx files for each language you want to
use.

I have these for American English:
  Ssceam2.clx
  Ssceam.tlx

and these for Britsh English:
  sscebr12.clx
  SSCEBR.tlx

And you can see my options (Spell Checker/Options) for SCCE in attached
PNG.

You will also see in this png that there is a tab for each of the
engines installed. If one is missing is because it is not installed (or
properly so) and TB doesn't see it.

I have seen some confusion about these dialog and tabs. The tabs are
NOT to select the engine to be used for spelling, you select languages.
The dialog and tabs are just to set the options for the engines
installed.

How-To get the 3 spell checker engines to work - Part 3 (CSAPI)

2008-02-09 Thread MAU
Hello all,

You do not need to install anything in any of TB directories. As far as
I know, if you have MS Office 97 installed (at least Word) the CSAPI
engine and dictionaries will be installed and TB will see them and
make them available to you.

I don't have MS Office 97 currently installed, I have Office XP. But I
kept a copy of the engine and dictionaries I wanted to use and
installed then manually.

I copied 'MSSP232.DLL' (the engine) and 'mssp2_es.lex' (the Spanish
dictionary) to this directory:

  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

and then I entered (imported) the registry keys that you can see in
'Spelling_XP_en_C.reg.txt' attached.

I am also including a screen grab of my options for CSAPI.

And that is all. Anyway, I am including the 'Setup instructions' that I
sent by PM to someone in this list and he got it working.

Intructions on how to setup MS Office 97 dictionaries and CSAPI engine
to be used by The Bat!

1.- Open 'Spelling_XP_en_C.reg' in Notepad.

2.- Carefully look at file patths in Registry entries. You may have to
change Drive letter and translate directory names like:

   Archivos de programa (Program Files)
   Archivos comunes (Common Files)

3.- Now place dictionaries and engine (dll) in the directories indicated
by registry entries.

4.- Save modified 'Spelling_XP_en_C.reg' and Import to your Resgistry.

5.- Your 'new' dictionaries should now appear as an option next time you
start TB.

How-To get the 3 spell checker engines to work - Part 4 (Hunspell)

2008-02-09 Thread MAU
Hello all,

For the Hunspell engine to be available and work, you must have the
'hunspell.dll' in your TB home or installation directory. In my case:

  C:\Program Files\The Bat!

You can download language dictionaries from:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries

There are at least two files, a .dic and a .aff) that must be installed
in (or copied to) this directory:

   ...\The Bat!\Dictionaries

In my case, for Italian I have:

 it_IT.dic
 it_IT.aff

in C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Dictionaries

As you can see in attached PNG, the Hunspell options are all disabled
and grayed out. AFAIK, RIT guy are still working on them.

And that's all. As I said in my first message, if this helps at least
one of you, I'll be happy :)

Thank you for describing what is required to get spelling to work.

Despite all your efforts I cannot get it to work.

In line with your advice I can confirm I have all the files you mention for
SSCE and english (BR) selected
Following your instructions I added Hunspell (dll was already there but added
other files)
I use MS Word 2007 and so no CSAPI - maybe this is the problem?

OK, all appears correctly set up but it refuses to work

frunt lok (these have no effect as being mis-spelled)
99ggg 444ggg (these are underlined in red but only for numeric followed by
alpha)

Spell cjhecking is a must for me and I am deserate for a solution, I should add
that untill V4 (all versions) it did work

Anymore ideas, help!

Thanks

TheBat! gives an invalid pointer error then self destructs after
hitting OK on the invalid pointer box several times.

I had this happen once, but I can't get it to repeat.

Hello Dwight,

I tried to change dictionaries from CSAPI to SSCE and to hunspell, but
 neither will stick.

Where did you do that? In Spell Checker/Options? If so, that is NOT to
select the engine to use, it is just a dialog to set the options for
the different engines installed.

You don't select engines but languages. The engine(s) used depend(s) on
the language you select. If you select a language that is only available
for one of the engines, that is the one that will be used.

Hello Peter,

Can one get a passport being an inhabitant of Holland ?

Now a bit more seriously :) We know that the country is the Nederlands
but, whether you like it or not, the fact is that in many languages
(including English and Spanish) Holland is used many times to refer to
the whole country.

See for example this:

,---[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_%28terminology%29#Holland ]
|
| In languages other than Dutch, including English, Holland is often
| used as a common but technically incorrect synonym for the Netherlands
| as a whole. Strictly speaking, it refers only to the central-western
| part of the country, which consists of two of the country's twelve
| provinces: North Holland and South Holland. This confusion between a
| part and its whole (pars pro toto) also exists with the names of other
| countries, such as Russia for the (former) Soviet Union or England for
| the United Kingdom (see also British Isles terminology).

Confirmed - I had the Start In directory empty in the shortcut I use
to start TB, and when I set it to TB's directory, the languages
appeared. Nevertheless, this is a bug, because you can't rely on the

%EMAIL% one, for example). Maybe it worth to try to set the Start
in property of the Desktop/menu/QuickLauch shortcut that starts TB!
to whatever is the directory of TheBat.EXE...

 BINGO!!

 Fixed for me!

I just posted that it was not working - now it is and no more AV when
entering dictionaries.

Confirmed - I had the Start In directory empty in the shortcut I use

Nevertheless, this is a bug, because you can't rely on the
working directory being set when TB is started (eg. if I double-click
a .msg file on disk while TB isn't running, it'll be started with the
directory where I double-clicked the file as it's working dir).

True
I have XP Pro Internet apps email set to The Bat!
I am trying to find a way for the resulting email client entry in my
Start menu to launch The Bat! with a starting directory. No luck so
far.

In the meantime, I will start The Bat! from its own shortcut.
