Just an FYI for the group. I recently started looking for Flash PC Cards
that held more than 20M of storage and found the 6500s did not support
anything higher. I ran across this release note and will be testing a 64M

Im looking for flash memory to upgrade my 6509s from their current 16M
flash cards. I was looking at Viking and Cisco and all they offer is 16M
20M flash cards. Is there something in CATOS that would prevent something
larger like 40M or 64M? I only want to do this once and 20M doesnt seem
on Cisco's web

more questions.
I am working on a textbook Cisco network design. We have two 6509s in the
core, four 6509s in the distribution layer and about 30 6509s at the
access layer. We also have two Server Farm 6509s hanging off
I'm not sure, but I thought I read somewhere that the GigaStack GBICs are
half duplex. I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't use them in an
environment that requires QOS. If this is true, your throughput would be
better with 1000B-T GBICs or Fiber GBICs running at full duplex.
Jeffrey Reed
If I have an existing VTP domain server with many VLANs configured and then
add another VTP server does the first server update the new server? No
chance of the new server updating the old server and wiping out the VTP
database, right?
Thanks!!

What utilities are you guys using to find MAC addresses across a large
campus network? If I have an end users IP address, check the routers ARP
for their MAC, whats the easiest way to find out which switch port?
Thanks!!

and antenna will reduce range.
Modifying antenna's is probably something the FCC frowns upon, especially if
you kill all the 2.4ghz phones in the neighborhood!!
Sounds like a fun weekend project!! Let us know how you make out.

Im rather new to the Cisco world but have with other vendors. I need some
help with design Best Practices. Recently there was a post that told us
the max switch hop in a network should be about 7 hops. As a reseller, I am
working with a customer who has the following network design:
Me again new to the Cisco world. The last vendor I worked with will rename
nameless for now, but they had a lot of firmware releases and it would drive
us nuts with all the fixes and patches. Worse were the few times they would
release a new level of firmware and break something that was working
When would you use Layer 3 EtherChannel? Ive bonded layer two links
together before, but not sure when you could/should use the layer 3
EtherChannel?

Check out the link I pasted in my original email on how to configure a Layer
3 channel. It shows these commands and a little more:
Router# configure terminal
Router(config)# interface port-channel 1
Router(config-if)# ip address 172.32.52.10 255.255.255.0
I never saw it before...

If money were not an issue, I would purchase the new WS-C3550-48-EMI @ $7790
list with a street price of about $5800. This switch has full HW based IP
multicast routing, supports all the major routing protocols, is only 1U high
and has two GBIC slots.

should be OK using your router with unlicensed IOS. You should not be able
to get SmartNet either, but that assumes their serial number tracking is
done correctly.

Hi,
Quick question. If I have two
throughput (in marketing terms) is 33M. You can achieve similar
results with wireless bridges, which do talk to each other over the wireless
network.
