Another use I have come across is that of "it's snowing down south" - to
indicate that one's petticoat (underskirt) is showing!
Out of curiosity, do such things go north in the southern hemisphere?
e with my mother, that children are
not allowed to be children long enough these days, and they have a
lifetime of housework ahead of them that doesn't need to start too
early. They do look after their own rooms, though. It works for us,
and that is what matters.
