IRC (?).
Solution : Edit (as root, of course) /etc/lilo.conf
"append" - line to append=" noapic "
Then run /sbin/lilo (as root) and reboot.
Worked for me.
Now I suddenly recall : The problem is documented on the
Mandrake home page under "errata".

ettings in Kppp a few times,
and - if still no go - return to this list with as many
informations as possible. We CAN read from this other OS,
you know.

Langsley, did you by any chance forget to uncheck the
"test" option in Kpackage during install ? - If so,
uncheck it and try again.

Want to
t (as root) the line to :
/dev/hda6 /mnt/data vfat iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,
rw,nosuid,umask=0, 0 0
Especially the "umask=0" option allows all users to acces
the filesystem. Be careful with the commas.
Good luck

Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
a guess : what are your security settings ? - Go to
Mandrake Control Center --> Security and have a look.
Mine is "high" and all the other options set to "default".
Works like a breeze. Of course you need to know what your ISP
supports (PAP / CHAP).
BTW : It seems you are on
using the Mandrake Linux
8.2 CD1 to do a CD-ROM installation. During boot, press F1 at the splash
screen, then place your floppy disk that contains patch.pl in the floppy
drive. At the prompt, type "patch", then follow the installation as usual.
If still in trouble, please return to the
ong as you don't intend to play music cds as I
> recall
Doesn't matter. My CD-Writer is playing Mozart, Bach and Armstrong quite well
as long as the audio-cable is connected to the soundcard. To play music-CD's
the media isn't mounted as a "normal" filesystem.
my example hdc is
the "master" on the second IDE-bus.
Then, save the file, and run "lilo'" as root. Finally, run : cdrecord
--scanbus to see if the burner is there.

tions once again to your
liking. Remember to have the floppy in place.
If still in trouble, repost to this list, I'm sure there are people here to
help you through this. I'm sure it's only some minor issue.
