fine under the pre-loaded XP. I'm trying to migrate it to Mandrake
(10.0 Community), and running into the odd obstacle or two...

713a. It has a Microstar MS-6577 ver.1 motherboard, with onboard LAN.
This is a Realtek 8139, and it works fine under the preloaded winXP. It
will not work at all under Mandrake 10.0. I have disabled it in BIOS,
and
, in what they call raw mode. This is hedged about with
caveats and warnings like for experts only! in such a way as to make
me suspect that it doesn't really work. I've not tried it.
If you've got the disk space in /home, it's almost certainly easier to
install another copy.

I've had this trouble and the problem turned out to be that one of the
jumper blocks wasn't making good contact with the pins. Verify that
there is actually some _metal_ in the plastic jumper, or better yet, get
some new jumper blocks.

listed on the www.mandrakelinux.com website a few days ago. The install went
smoothly, just about everything was working except my sound card (according
to the installation program), but when I restarted it stuck on Checking

When you installed your Linux did you include the development tools? When
you download the software I found that you must have a fast and reliable
connection. Then you need to make sure that you download inst.iso (the
installer) and the ext.iso (the extensions for the development).
It looks like plain text mail. Standard font is courier new I believe.
Unfortunately I'm using Outlook now. Will be wiping my machine clean soon
for a testing of raid in Linux :^)

linmodems.org and got the modules, but I get the same "modem is busy"

I recently submitted a problem with installation to the customer service
(follows). Although I have not received the remedy, I thought I'd pose the
question here since I'm sure I will not be the only one to have this
problem. On a side note, I was wondering how advantageous a secondary hard
drive
I have just installed Mandrake 7.2 with KDE 2.0 (not
final) and I can't get any sound. My sound card is a
Creative AWE64 16-bit Audio and it is recognized as
such by HardDrake (The MOBO also has a soundbalster as
integrated sound, but I have disabled it in the BIOS).

This email is a warning and solution that I hope will help someone out

Symptom: After installing Linux Mandrake 7.1, Windows can't read any FAT
drives in the extended partition.
Further description: Computer that I was installing on had a 13G drive
Here's an even BETTER solution. Don't install Linux on anything other
than it own partition. That includes Extended DOS partitions. If you
have to use Partition magic to resize your DOS primary partition and
create another primary parition which is where your Linux installation
will go.
