Sounds like the Tatting person is everywhere!!
They are just the same here in Oz - "Look at the lady tatting!" - when
there are 2 or 3 signs up - in Large Letters - saying Bobbin Lace!

I was recently given a book on "Linen Cut-Work" by Onone Cave. It was the
gift-giver's Mother's book, and as she was not into NL she thought I might
give it a good home, - rather than throw it away! (Could I Ever!!! :)) )

I am not much good on the 'puter, either, however on my machine I hold down
the alt key (next to the space bar), and, while still holding down the key
with the left hand, I type in 0246 on the Numbers on the right side of the
keyboard (Not the ones along the top). and hey presto!! up

I always was told that the fat tallies were Maltese, and the long thin ones

I browsed the sellers other stuff (clicked on the Elegant ArtsAntiques, -
Needlework tools)- and on Page 2 of the list, I came across another bone
bobbin dated 1850 which Does look to be that age.
Helen referred to the Margaret Hamer booklets. There are 6 of them, 2 each
in Torchon, Beds, and Bucks laces.
They are designed for complete beginners, and some have pattern sheets at
the back.
There is also a similar booklet on Mounting and Finishing Lace, by Hamer and
Waller.

Have a look in the Scrapbooking supplies. Here in Oz, I found some 3fold
cards with either a square or an oval cut out ready for your
lace/embroidery/whatever to be added, in amongst the scrapbooking paper,
kits etc.. They were $6.99 Aut for a packet of 4 cards, in either all one

tell me to wash and/or bleach the lace, - to matt it up a bit.
That gives me a fit of the horrors!!!

Try making a "rubber band" with a length of narrow elastic. Stitch the ends
together flat (one laid over the other)

Thank you all for your replies to my question about the Honiton Museum. I
am glad I was correct when I passed on the information to the lady who
commented!! She then said she would browse the web before she went to

Sotherby's (I think).
Afterwards, she told me she was So pleased that most of her collection went
to Collectors not dealers, as the collectors would leave the pieces whole,
but the dealers would cut them up into lengths and sell

With Gimp thread spools, or Crochet Cotton spools, I use a bit of Sticky
tape, and stick the labels too the inside of the spool. I try to get the
number of the thread positioned so that I can read it!!
Other than that, I use a permanent marker and write the number on the spool,
or on a sliver o

Well, I Always angle my pins - slightly backwards for the Internal pins, and
'Back and Out' for the edge pins.
