CCDP WAN Switching 640-413 Test?
I just achieved my CCDP and it has been a rewarding journey. I am thinking of working on CCDP WAN Switching while preparing for Design CCIE Written test. I think we just have to pass the Designing Switched WAN and Voice Solution (DSWVS) 640-413 test. Does anybody have any experience and advice about this test? Thanks a lot in advance for your help. Re: (no subject)
Do you understand routing on a stick? Just imagine the MSFC as an external router with a trunk connection to the switch and sub-interfaces ( VLAN interfaces ) create for each VLAN. Actually if you do a "sh trunk" on a cat6k with an MSFC you'll see an ISL trunk to the MSFC. PPP Multilink from 3com Courier ISDN modem to Cisco 2600 with ISDN module
Problem: I was trying to connect a 3com Courrier to a Cisco 2600 with BRI ISDN module, but the Courrier only connected 1 B channel at 64k. Called 3com tech support and followed instruction to enter *V2=5*P=3*D0=1 initializing string, but the multilink still didn't work. Below is the startup-config. I took the dialer map entry out because the 2600 was trying to dial to the 3com modem, and of course it failed. My question is: Are there any additional commands needed to enter to work in this situation? I know how to connect 2 cisco routers together with dialer load-threshold and multilink but that didn't work for the ISDN modem. I did search on www.cisco.com but no luck. Any advise is appreciated. RE: Really getting to me now...(VLANs)
My source is the Cisco Press "Cisco LAN Switching" By Clark and Hamilton. Pages 617 and following. They refer to an end-to-end VLAN as a "flat earth" model or campus-wide VLAN. It is not confined to a single switch block but rather can span an entire campus. Pluses are that no routing is involved. Minuses are that it doesn't scale. Much more in the book. It is a design issue. The authors prefer the modular local implementation using routing in the distribution layer. > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 5:29 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Really getting to me now...(VLANs) > > > Hey Group, > This has now officially gotten to me!!! Re: Really getting to me now...(VLANs)
I think you may be over-amping. An end to end vlan is one that is hosted on 2 or more switches and there for must be encapsulated using a trunking protocol like ISL or dot1q and multiplexed over a trunk to another switch. Because of this you now get into issues such as VTP domains, trunk negociating, client-server-transparent switch modes, VTP update numbers and VTP pruning. Switching is fun and interesting and will make you popular with the girls. Know vlans, VTP, trunking, multicasting and mls and you will ace the test. Like I said, switching is easy. Pretend you are a little unicast packet trying to make it from one machine to another. Think of how you are going to do that, step by step and think of things that could go wrong and stop you from getting to your destination. When ever the technical details start to cloud my mind, I pretend I'm a happy little ethernet frame on a great adventure. Have a great holiday weekend! vlan2 > >Hey Group, > This has now officially gotten to me!!! It is not a requirement that the DLSw local and remote peer IP addresses are those of a physical interface . Using loopbacks is a good practice . R2 / \ / \ / \ R4---et1-R5-et0---et0-R0-et1-R1 \ / \ / \ / R3 If yes and considering that you specify bridging on eth0 on both R0 and R5 , than your setup does not make any sense . Really getting to me now...(VLANs)
Hey Group, This has now officially gotten to me!!! I've been studying for my BCMSN which I am taking on the 11th and have read the CiscoPress book and now for a refresh, I am hitting the Switching Exam Cram. I am reading over VLANs am very comfortable with them except for one section...End-to-end VLANs. I just can't figure out what they mean. In the books they talk about E-2-E VLANs and then the next section will be on Local VLANs. I just can't see the difference between them, if there is one at all. What I'm taking from their explanation is that E-2-E VLANs are spanned over different switch blocks, and the local ones stay in their own. If this is so, what is the difference? I think I just need someone to explain these 2 terms to me in layman's terms. I usually understand things better when they are said simply and then I can build on that. I just need to get it to click if you know what I mean... Visio on a budget
Hi there. Say you don't need a new shiny purdy network design diagram? For CCDA studies, you just need something better than your hand drawn pumpkins with x's and arrows squezzed in? Try those round sale stickers that you can get in a variety store or Walmart. They come in different sizes and Colors, so you can Cats. one color, routers another. Dark sinister color for firewall. Maybe a white one for Intrusion Detection System. (transparent on white paper!) Enough. Ya'll get my drift. CCNA had it's 3x5 index Flash cards, maybe sale stickers could be CCDA's equivalent. :>) Before you kick sand at me, isn't problem solving part of the skills to the top? For you guys gigglin, Enjoy! Re: 2503 CPU Load Shooting up
Zafar , When a router receives a packet he needs memory to store it and process it . In your case the router cannot allocate memory to store the packet . ( he is out of memory , he = router ) You solved your problem for 75% . The remaining 25% is the difficult part :) What is happening on the ethernet when you run into this condition ? Get a sniffer trace and find out . There is a condition on the ethernet that forces the router t0 generate malloc failures . flem --- Zafar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello, > > I am facing a very strange problem with my 2503 > Router running IOS Version 12.0(4)T. Re: VLAN design
What's hxhk staff?? Just wondering. (Or would I be better off not knowing what it stands for? &;-) You make some good points about planning and design, and the fact that people tend to blame vendors instead of their own lack of planning. On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with starting with a guide. If the guide is good, it will recommend that the reader analyze bandwidth requirements for applications, etc. The Designing Switched LAN Internetworks white paper has some pretty good VLAN information: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/cisintwk/idg4/nd2012.htm In some ways I hate recommending this white paper because it's what started all the misinformation about AppleTalk broadcasting which has spread to many books, but as long as you ignore just about everything this paper says about AppleTalk, the rest of it is quite good. Load balancing two T1 of two ISP
Dear Group members, I have been search every corner of Cisco site to see if I will find anything about the following scenario. I have read some white paper that explain BGP in enterprise level but I need little bit more of a smaller picture. Anyhow thanks for your help. how would you implement Load balancing between two T-1 internet connections from two different ISP on a LAN. By this question I mean if there are two active internet connection terminated on two different routers connecting to the LAN setting a bandwidth threshold that when it passes that on the primary router sends/reroutes the traffic to the secondary router (path). the type of traffic are FTP from outside downloading files and HTTP traffic from inside browsing the Internet. Use loopback interfaces coupled with route maps and access lists and Nat. Use one loopback as an inside, the other as an outside. Set next hop addresses in the route maps to match your loopbacks It is similar in principle to a static nat and dynamic nat with ipsec combination (which I have running now). RE: PIX
In my experience, as long as you use identical hardware (NIC's, motherboard) and use the PIX flash card, I see no reason why it wouldn't work just fine. The ones I've worked with was a Pentium Pro mobo (Intel VS440FX) and a Pentium II mobo (Intel AL440LX). If you use those, I see no reason why it shouldn't work. I think they use either Intel Etherexpress 100 NIC's or 3Com 3c905B Nic's, although I'm pretty sure it's the former. RE: CCNA pass
Congratulations Andrew!! The CCNP path or CCDA is next. Take your pick and have at it. I recently obtained my CCNA and I'm presently preparing for the CCDA exam. I'm using the DCN book along with Internet Routing Architectures for study material. I also have my sights set on the CCNP track as well. I picked up the BCMSN book by Thomas Thomas for my first test for CCNP. The ultimate goal is the coveted CCIE. With a lot of hard work and determination I'll get there. Re: Command Question
I also want to add that if you look at the load 1/255 to gauge router loads, it is based on the bandwidth settings. If you have a 56k link but your bandwidth is set to default then you will not get an accurate reading on your load setting. I set the bandwidth setting for this reason on links that are less then the default. - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 7:31 AM Subject: Re: Command Question > "clockrate" is the command you would specify in a lab environment to make a serial interface provide clocking for a link. For example, say you've got a 64k link - not very attractive, right? Well, Cisco routers, unless you tell them otherwise via the "bandwidth" command, will assume that every serial interface is running at T1 speed. This will make your 64k link have a lower metric in (E)IGRP than it really should have. It will also affect your load and utilization counters as well. When you set the bandwidth parameter to 64k (which is in accordance with the link's actual speed), the (E)IGRP values will be adjusted accordingly, and more accurate routing will take place. > > Hope this helps. > > Sincerely, > > Bradley J. Re: subinterfaces
Title: subinterfaces You need to reboot the router to get rid of a sub interface. Maybe Secondary IP addresses would be a solution for what you want to do. Also, the router is stating that to route between ethernet Sub interfaces you need ISL or dot q because it assumes you will be routing between Vlans. Why? Because if you actually had a physically seperate network to route to you would put it on another interface not the same sub interface of a physical segment. The interface assumes since you are trying to bring in 2 networks on the same interface that you are using Vlans. - Original Message - From: Nova Rich To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 7:53 PM Subject: subinterfaces hey guys, I was wondering how to apply subinterfaces. Re: Command Question
with 'clock rate' you can set the clocking of a serial interface used as dce (as example if you use a back-to-back configuration). As example you could set the clock-rate of two 2500 series routers connected back-to-back with their serial interfaces to 400 bits per second to create a 4mbit link. This is possible only on the router with the dce-side of the cable. 'bandwidth' is how the interface speed is reported to the routing pro- tocols. 'bandwith' does not influence the actual speed of the interface but can influence routing decisions (depending on the running routing protocols) Usually it should be necessary only on serial interfaces to set the bandwidth to the actual value. As example the bandwidth of a serial inter- face is by default always configured to 1544 Kbit. group: please correct me if i got something wrong. Re: Command Question
"clockrate" is the command you would specify in a lab environment to make a serial interface provide clocking for a link. In a normal production environment, the provider would provide the clock and you wouldn't have to set this. "bandwidth," on the other hand, is a configurable parameter which the router uses in determining the "attractiveness" of the link, especially when you're using IGRP or EIGRP. Sincerely, Bradley J. Command Question
What is the diference between the "clock rate" command and the "bandwidth" command? Thanks Adam Hickey [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: ip route
If we consider static route , yes it will load-balance; ( share count =1 ) router#sh run | include ip route ip route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 30.2.0.2 ip route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 40.0.0.2 router# router#sh ip route 10.0.0.0 Routing entry for 10.0.0.0/8 Known via "static", distance 1, metric 0 Routing Descriptor Blocks: * 30.2.0.2 Route metric is 0, traffic share count is 1 40.0.0.2 Route metric is 0, traffic share count is 1 router# The switchover will happen in some situations .Routes will only disappear from the routing table if reachability to 40.0.0.0 or 30.0.0.0 is gone. So it differs from situation . In the case you have ; station1 router0===serial===router1station2 || || hub-- station1 can ping station2 and is loadsharing fine . If you shutdown the ethernet interface on router1 . Router0 will still laodbalance between the two routes. Result that you loose every other ping . If you shutdown the serial on router1 , then the ping would still be 100% succesfull . Because the line protocol will also go down at router0 . flem --- "Benny Leong (HTHK - Senior Engineer II - iServices Development, NNSD)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Ip route 150.10.0.0 255.255.0.0 1.1.1.1 > Ip route 150.10.0.0 255.255.0.0 2.2.2.1 > > Will these 2 statements : > 1.perform load balancing ? > 2.if the link to 2nd route fails, will the router > stop routing the > traffic through 2.2.2.1 ? > > Thanks. > > ___ > UPDATED Posting Guidelines: > http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html > FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: > http://www.groupstudy.com > Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: ip route
Hi It will perform load balancing on a per packet basis If one of the links fails, packets WILL STILL BE ROUTED via that link. Actually you will see half of your packets lost. Static Routes have a weight of 1, i.e. they are highly believable. You need a dynamic routing protocol, like EIGRP or OSPF to accomplish your two tasks Hope this helps Geoff - Original Message - From: "Benny Leong (HTHK - Senior Engineer II - iServices Development, NNSD)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 12:50 AM Subject: ip route > Ip route 150.10.0.0 255.255.0.0 1.1.1.1 > Ip route 150.10.0.0 255.255.0.0 2.2.2.1 > > Will these 2 statements : > 1. perform load balancing ? > 2. if the link to 2nd route fails, will the router stop routing the > traffic through 2.2.2.1 ? > > Thanks. > > ___ > UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html > FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com > Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Software release confusion
"T" releases refer to "Technology" releases. In other words, new technology feature or functionality will first appear in a "T" release, and then be incorporated in to a standard release train in a later version/release. That is why you will not see a "T" release go into General Deployment (GD). Some folk interpret "T" as being Telephony which is incorrect. RE: ip route
Jason these statements will load balance and we are doing static routing here so other routing protocols running on the router will not effect the load balancing. Regarding the second point, the router will stop sending the traffic through 2.2.2.1 only if this static route is removed from the router's routing table. This will happen if 2.2.2.1 itself becomes unreachable for some reason.
