If you have other 3600 swap the flash and perform the password recovery in the other one, if it continues to show garbage on the console port you probably have something wrong in the console settings. Try changing the baud rate on your serial connection to 115200, this is done within your terminal program, and see if the output is legible. If not, try all the speeds one by one. -Original Message- From: Funnell Giles [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2003 9:19 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Password Recovery 3600 [7:69762] Hi all, I have just acquired a 3600 router. Try different baud rates until the garbage becomes legible is my guess. Your config-reg is likely changed though without a password it is difficult to view. RE: Password recovery without reload? [7:64453]
You can recover the configuration using snmp (you need the write community, of course), and if you haven't used md5 passwords for enable, it would be easy to decode it. I have done it once. If you have used md5 passwords, you can save the configuration to txt and then perform a recovery password. Do a search in google, I think the snmp variable ends in .55, it's all I remember now. If you don't get it write again and I'll try to find it. (In archives there is something about that, I think) Hope this help. oscar wrote: Can I see the configuration of a Cisco router without a password recovery? Depend on the version of Pix OS on the firewall, you need an TFTP server so that you can download the npxx.bin to the pix in monitor mode from the TFTP server to erase the password on the pix. I'll have to admit I used the LS100 in my ATM class, but it's one of those things I've tried hard to forget. You have to enter a very cryptic string from a hidden menu on the LS100. I had to do it on mine, so you'll need to call TAC and open a case to get this resolved. I believe that the default password is c. (Just the letter not the quotes.) Please post the solution. -Original Message- From: XY HIEN LE [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, January 25, 2003 12:28 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: password recovery for ATM Light Stream LS 100 [7:61837] Does any one know the procedure of how to do the password recovery for an ATM LightStream LS 100? I saw M. C. post the undocumented command for no service password-recovery and I was wanting to know how this command works. Does it change the setting on the config register to some new value or does it lock out the ability to do so? Is this a good deterant to prevent someone from obtaining your router configuration if they have physical access to the box? Richard, Once the switch boots up you should be able to use the AMI account to get in without a password. It's a whole lot like the C5k on bootup and password recovery. You just need to use the account AMI on login. Re: Emergency: PIX 515 password recovery [7:31514]
The answer is a very simple one. What you want to do is to us the npxx.bin file to erase both the telnet and enable password in the pix. After that, reboot the pix. While the pix is rebooting, physically remove the cable on the interface of the pix that the TACACS uses to talk to the PIX. Now, because the pix can NOT communicate with TACACS server, it stills prompts for username and password. This time your username will be pix and password for EXEC mode will be cisco. After successfully logging into the pix, the enable mode to get into privilege is just a simple return. It's as easy as 123 - Original Message - From: Engelhard M. The solution involves a hidden command, and a special convoluted password to get into said mode. After getting into that mode, another hidden command will remove the password, allowing you to reboot the machine and get prompted for a password after it boots. I was not able to find this issue before, and I understand why now. Because of the way the lightstream 100 operates, I asked if this method could be posted, to help others with this situation, and the rep asked me not to, that they should call the TAC for assistance. People are going to tell you that you have a bad terminal package but I don't think thats it. Can you get into rommon, if you can run the router with 0x2141. If you still get garbled console you may want to try and load a small image. I once loaded a very large image on a 1600 and starting recieveing garbled messages. I had to send it back to cisco the TAC guy on the phone said that this can happen sometimes when there is not enough memory for the expanding image. It will even negate displaying the rommon functionality, which really surprised me. - Original Message - From: Adam Luy To: Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 1:37 PM Subject: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743] Hey everybody, I have a couple of 3102 routers at home that I can not get into. Hey everybody, I have a couple of 3102 routers at home that I can not get into. The console ports have been set to some strange setting I can not seem to figure out. I've tried what seems to be an endless combination of speeds, parity, stop bits, data bits, etc..., but still get garbled data out the console. I have other 3102s in my lab, so I know I've got good cables and all that. Plus, if I have a TFTP server going when I power them up they will download IOS from it, so I know they are working, just can't get into the damn console! Is there anyway to manually/physically clear NVRAM so the console is set back to 9600,n,8,1? Help! -Adam Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=17743t=17743 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The OS or the keyboard on your PC/Laptop may also be the problem. For instace, hyperterm on an NT box will hose you...the break key is worthless. Check this page out. Re: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743]
I had the garbled console data problem once before. I went through slowly and methodically starting with 8N1 through all the different baud rates that Hyperterm would allow. I finally found the right setting at 1200 bps. Other than that, I know of no way to clear the NVRAM although I'd suppose if you knew where the NVRAM chip was on the board and which pin was the erase pin, you could apply 5 volts to it to erase it. Someone might have a databook that shows that pinout if you can locate the chip on the board. Oh, the other solution might be attaching a console cable to the AUX port (but I guess you don't know the enable password, which is probably the point of all this, right?) This is good CCIE practice for you although I suspect you already ran out of time in the lab troubleshooting section (oops) - Original Message - From: Gore, Roger (Signal) To: Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 3:06 PM Subject: RE: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743] The OS or the keyboard on your PC/Laptop may also be the problem. Re: Lightstream 100 Password Recovery [7:15937]
Just for the record (and the archives), the solution for this is to call Cisco. So, this posting is just for future reference for anyone searching for the same problem. -chris wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... RE: Password Recovery for BAY ARN [7:15590]
Hi This is Dheeru from India The solution for your Password Recovery for BAY ARN is as follows: 1.Power cycle the ARN. 2.When the ARN starts cycling through Power On Diags, type Ctrl C followed by a carriage return. This will put you in diagnostic mode and you will see the following prompt: Diag_1 3.At this prompt, type in the following command exactly: d/l/n:5 41 0 This sequence will blank out the Manager password in NVRAM. 4.Type boot or power cycle the ARN. There is no longer a Manager password. I hope this should work out as I am in a company which is mainly implementing Nortel Products . RE: Bay Password Recovery? [7:15480]
Unfortunately, Bay has made password recovery extremely difficult for their low-end routers. You'll need to contact the Bay TAC and get a certain executable from them, and then boot your router with it instead of its usual image. You can then go in, change (or delete) your password, then re-boot again with the right image. -Original Message- From: Ngo Van Dzung [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2001 12:04 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Password Recovery? Cisco 675 password recovery [7:15422]
I found a document that describes how to access the Rmon mode of the Cisco 675 during bootup with CTRL C but the device wont respond to my request for password recovery. The document states that during power on when the Hello! line is displayed, the break sequence will work. This particular 675 is running CBOS 2.2.0 so it *should* work. Has anyone had any success in this scenario? P.S. Of course this is to repair the Code Red virus problem. Would it also be possible to use SNMP to copy the config from the router to the TFTP server, remove the service password encryption command from the config, and replace those encrypted password statements with new ones that aren't encrypted? Once the new config has been re-installed on the router, then key in the service password encrypt command to scramble them. Would this work as well? RE: SNMP and password recovery?? [7:5852]
You can do this with just a few tools. Get a copy of getif2.2 which will let you do snmp set commands, as long as you have the rw string. Get a tftp server running somewhere that the router can reach. Read this url from cisco http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/11.html I did this recently using these tools just for grins, it was pretty easy to do. The result will be that the router will tftp it's config to the server. If you don't have password encryption on the password will be easily readable with Word or other editor. If the password is encrypted, you will need to hunt down another tool to decrypt it. I think L0pht has one. If you search the archives you'll find references. Password recovery [7:4899]
Anyone know how to reset the enable password on a 5000 series switch when you have forgotten it? RE: Password recovery [7:4899]
See this: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/474/pswdrec_6000.html When it prompts you for the new password just press enter. Blow away the old passwords - you only have about 30 seconds after a reboot. It may take two reboots to clear both the console and enable passwords. Once you have no passwords - you can create new ones at your leisure. -Original Message- From: Robert Perez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 2:55 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Password recovery [7:4899] Anyone know how to reset the enable password on a 5000 series switch when you have forgotten it? RE: password recovery problem with AAA [7:3735]
I would guess that if you boot the router ignoring the content of NVRAM that you could then view the startup config (show start). You might then want to do a cut and paste to Notepad or capture the output of your terminal program. If loading the config disallows you from doing anything, then best to erase start and reload. That wipes the router clean. Then config t and use the Notepad copy to enter the parts that you need. -Original Message- From: Sim, CT (Chee Tong) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2001 11:25 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: password recovery problem with AAA [7:3735] I am doing a password recovery for a 1700 router, I manage to see its previous configuration part.
