If you have other 3600 swap the flash and perform the password recovery in
the other one, if it continues to show garbage on the console port you
probably have something wrong in the console settings.

Try changing the baud rate on your serial connection to 115200, this is done
within your terminal program, and see if the output is legible. If not, try
all the speeds one by one.

Try different baud rates until the garbage becomes legible is my
guess. Your config-reg is likely changed though without a password it
is difficult to view.

RE: Password recovery without reload? [7:64453]

2003-03-05 Thread David j
You can recover the configuration using snmp (you need the write community,
of course), and if you haven't used md5 passwords for enable, it would be
easy to decode it. I have done it once. If you have used md5 passwords, you
can save the configuration to txt and then perform a recovery password.
Do a search in google, I think the snmp variable ends in .55, it's all I
remember now. If you don't get it write again and I'll try to find it. (In
archives there is something about that, I think)

Hope this help.

Re: Pix Enable Password recovery [7:62401]

2003-02-03 Thread d tran
Depend on the version of Pix OS on the firewall, you need an TFTP server
so that you can download the npxx.bin to the pix in monitor mode from the
TFTP server to erase the password on the pix. Very simple. Go to
www.cisco.com and search for password recovery
Good luck.

Here's an old post:
The password recovery
on a LS100 is unbeliveably complicated. You have to
enter a very cryptic string from a hidden menu on the
LS100. I had to do it on mine, so you'll need to call
TAC and open a case to get this resolved.
I believe that the default password is c. (Just the letter not the
quotes.)
Please post the solution.

The password recovery is superfluous. Cisco can only defend the
LS100 by mentioning they didn't design it, but put their label on it.

Honestly, I found things that I had to load with binary or hex
switches more intuitively obvious. If, before I had seen the LS100,
someone had told me that anyone would implement a command line with
14 positional parameters, with no help or editing, I would have had
hysterics.

I'll have to admit I used the LS100 in my ATM class, but it's one of
those things I've tried hard to forget.

It works on other devices apparently. I did a quick search and actually
found a way around the command. It looks like Cisco needs to take note
and possibly fix this bug. I would like to discuss why its a good command
to have with Cisco if anyone from cisco is paying attention.

I saw M. C. post the undocumented command for no service password-recovery
and I was wanting to know how this command works. Does it change the
setting
on the config register to some new value or does it lock out the ability to
do so? Is this a good deterant to prevent someone from obtaining your
router
configuration if they have physical access to the box?

Thanks,

Richard,

Once the switch boots up you should be able to use the AMI
account to get in without a password. It's a whole lot like the C5k on
bootup and password recovery. You just need to use the account AMI on
login.

Password Recovery for CE-507-CDN [7:47100]

but step two says:

At the following prompt, press Return:

Cisco CE boot:hit RETURN to set boot flags:0009

That line never appears during the bootup of my content engine.

Any ideas?

FYI when TACACS is enabled and the designated server is not available I
found that I had to through the user name password authentication
process quickly then type en followed by 2x key strokes got me past
TACACS. Following the standard recovery procedure worked after the afore
mentioned process. Apparently the 30 second rule got me so it took several
attempts.

What to you mean by recover? Can you not just go into the config and

Re: Emergency: PIX 515 password recovery [7:31514]

2002-01-10 Thread David Tran

The answer is a very simple one. What you want to do is to us the
npxx.bin file to erase both the telnet and enable password in the pix.
After that, reboot the pix.

While the pix is rebooting, physically remove the cable on the interface
of the pix that the TACACS uses to talk to the PIX. Now, because the
pix can NOT communicate with TACACS server, it stills prompts for
username and password. This time your username will be pix and
password for EXEC mode will be cisco. After successfully logging
into the pix, the enable mode to get into privilege is just a simple return.

It's as easy as 123

You can use sniffer for the IP address of AAA server
 going out the PIX interface.

for my case, once I use default password cisco to enter it...

the aaa configuration take effect, and it prompt out
  Username:
  passsword:immediately

How can I use write erase command.

My situation is that the original AAA configuaration is still active, it
will make a great difficulties in passowrd recovery...

Emergency: PIX 515 password recovery [7:31514]

2002-01-09 Thread Ranma

HI,

any one know how to completely erase the whole configuration file of the
PIX515 firewall.

I had follow the password recovery procedure of Cisco Web page.
This method only can clear the TELNET and ENABLE password.

For my router, it had previously configured to use AAA-Authentication
server.
So it always prompt out

Username:
password:

I am now finding a method to completely erase the flash configuration file.

Thank you for your help!

The procedure does work but not exactly as you might think. The push button
on the front doesnt reset the config( or not on mine) but does bypass the
config on startup. You can edit the startup, change the password, etc then
save it and reboot. I had to do this when I mistyped the file name for a
remote boot file off a TFTP server.. oops..

IF you have tried this and it doesnt reset, take the cover off and spray
some contact cleaner into the pushswitch. This switch is rarely used and it
will get all kinds of crud in it ranging from smoke deposits to corrosion.
Sometimes pushing the switch from the CCA instead of the button works.

If you still have issues with it, drop me a line at webmaster at

You said they download from a TFTP?
well snoop the Ethernet packets and
look for what file they are requesting. store
that file on your ftp server and just add
a config file with the same name and...

config-register 0x2102

or

confreg 0x2102

or better yet make it
boot into rom mode

Hey everybody,

I have a couple of 3102 routers at home that I can not get into. The console
ports have been set to some strange setting I can not seem to figure out.
I've tried what seems to be an endless combination of speeds, parity, stop
bits, data bits, etc..., but still get garbled data out the console. I have
other 3102s in my lab, so I know I've got good cables and all that. Plus, if
I have a TFTP server going when I power them up they will download IOS from
it, so I know they are working, just can't get into the damn console!

Is there anyway to manually/physically clear NVRAM so the console is set
back to 9600,n,8,1?

Help!

People are going to tell you that you have a bad terminal package but I
don't think thats it. Can you get into rommon, if you can run the router
with 0x2141. If you still get garbled console you may want to try and load a
small image. I once loaded a very large image on a 1600 and starting
recieveing garbled messages. I had to send it back to cisco the TAC guy on
the phone said that this can happen sometimes when there is not enough
memory for the expanding image. It will even negate displaying the rommon
functionality, which really surprised me.

Re: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743]

2001-08-29 Thread EA Louie

I had the garbled console data problem once before. I went through slowly
and methodically starting with 8N1 through all the different baud rates that
Hyperterm would allow. I finally found the right setting at 1200 bps.

Other than that, I know of no way to clear the NVRAM although I'd suppose if
you knew where the NVRAM chip was on the board and which pin was the erase
pin, you could apply 5 volts to it to erase it. Someone might have a
databook that shows that pinout if you can locate the chip on the board.

Oh, the other solution might be attaching a console cable to the AUX port
(but I guess you don't know the enable password, which is probably the point
of all this, right?)

This is good CCIE practice for you although I suspect you already ran out of
time in the lab troubleshooting section (oops)

RE: Password Recovery for BAY ARN [7:15590]

2001-08-10 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi

This is Dheeru from India The solution for your Password Recovery for BAY
ARN is as follows:
1.Power cycle the ARN.
2.When the ARN starts cycling through Power On Diags, type Ctrl C followed
by a carriage return. This will put you in diagnostic mode and you will see
the following prompt:
Diag_1
3.At this prompt, type in the following command exactly:
d/l/n:5 41 0
This sequence will blank out the Manager password in NVRAM.
4.Type boot or power cycle the ARN. There is no longer a Manager password.
I hope this should work out as I am in a company which is mainly
implementing Nortel Products .

Thanx

RE: Bay Password Recovery? [7:15480]

2001-08-09 Thread Wilson, Bradley

Unfortunately, Bay has made password recovery extremely difficult for their
low-end routers. You'll need to contact the Bay TAC and get a certain
executable from them, and then boot your router with it instead of its usual
image. You can then go in, change (or delete) your password, then re-boot
again with the right image.

Cisco 675 password recovery [7:15422]

The document states that during power on when the Hello! line is displayed,

Has anyone had any success in this scenario?

5505 Password recovery [7:12848]

2001-07-18 Thread Ryan Tetley

Hi,

I have a 5505 that im trying reset to factory defaults. I have done this
many times and cant seen to get it to reset. I can get to the enable
prompt, however, its not excepting the null password. It had Tacacs setup
on it, i was wondering maybe if that was the problem...also, it isnt
connected to anything at but my PC.

Thanks

password recovery method!!! [7:11660]

2001-07-10 Thread Ranjit Sabherwal

I want to know two things: -

1). Is there any good site to learn about configuring router. I don't mean
theoretically wise, but having more hands-on practice on routers
practically. I there are, then what are they?

2). Second question is that while going to priveleged mode from user mode, u
need to enter the password. Suppose u forget the password, then is there any
way of recovering it? If no, then how to enter the priveleged mode?
Please enlighten me on these issues.

RE: SNMP and password recovery?? [7:5852]

2001-05-30 Thread Chris Rock

Would it also be possible to use SNMP to copy the config from the router to
the TFTP server, remove the service password encryption command from the
config, and replace those encrypted password statements with new ones that
aren't encrypted? Once the new config has been re-installed on the router,
then key in the service password encrypt command to scramble them.

Would this work as well?

This all seems like a lot of work...

Since you have the RW password, why not use SNMP to upload a config
file consisting of only:

enable secret [password]
or
enable password [password]

RE: SNMP and password recovery?? [7:5852]

2001-05-25 Thread Hennen, David

You can do this with just a few tools. Get a copy of getif2.2 which will
let you do snmp set commands, as long as you have the rw string. Get a tftp
server running somewhere that the router can reach. Read this url from
cisco

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/11.html

I did this recently using these tools just for grins, it was pretty easy to
do. The result will be that the router will tftp it's config to the server.
If you don't have password encryption on the password will be easily
readable with Word or other editor. If the password is encrypted, you will
need to hunt down another tool to decrypt it. I think L0pht has one. If
you search the archives you'll find references.

Hope this is helpful

say, a network admin lost router passwords, however,
he still remembers snmp community string (for r+w).

how can he retrieve or reset the passwords (what's
the mib variable?) without having to tftp-upload a
whole router config???

btw, the stuff obtained from snmpwalk is really not
as readable at all as the router config itself. ;)

See this:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/474/pswdrec_6000.html
When it prompts you for the new password just press enter. Blow away the
old passwords - you only have about 30 seconds after a reboot. It may take
two reboots to clear both the console and enable passwords. Once you have no
passwords - you can create new ones at your leisure.

RE: password recovery problem with AAA [7:3735]

2001-05-08 Thread Daniel Cotts

I would guess that if you boot the router ignoring the content of NVRAM that
you could then view the startup config (show start). You might then want to
do a cut and paste to Notepad or capture the output of your terminal
program. If loading the config disallows you from doing anything, then best
to erase start and reload. That wipes the router clean. Then config t and
use the Notepad copy to enter the parts that you need.
