[talk-ph] Proposed Sta. Ana Mapping Party on September 13
Hi everyone, Wikimedia Philippines will be having a WikiExpedition in the heritage zone of Sta. Ana, Manila this coming September 13, Saturday. I thought, why not have an OSM Mapping Party there as well? I'd like to know who is interested as well. :-) The WikiExpedition aims to take photographs and to document heritage houses and buildings in Sta. Ana. Wikimedia Philippines met with the Sta. Ana Heritage and Tourism Association (SAHTA) and they are supportive of this event. GMA News plans to cover this event as well if I remember correctly. The last time OpenStreetMap Philippines held a Mapping Party was in June 2011 in Pateros[1]. The WikiExpedition is therefore a good excuse to have a meetup for us. Remember, we are not just building a map but we are also building a community in OSM. :-) [1] http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Pateros_Mapping_Party Regards, Eugene ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

Hi folks, I'm based on Bantayan Island in Cebu and am very interested in helping promote OSM on the island and around the province. I had my first mapping intern start last Thursday, here for a one-month term. Organizing some volunteers and doing some training at one of the colleges here has been on my 'to-do' list for a few months, always put on the back burner because of other priorities. As it happens, I'm doing a presentation on Thursday to the Bantayan Island Humanitarian Working Group about OSM, the Open Data Kit, and mapping and information management in general. Islamic Relief Worldwide and Philippines Red Cross, among others, are interested in this stuff but their teams here have virtually no experience with IM let alone mapping. I can also connect you with the PDRRMO office who can connect you with the municipal DRR offices across the province I haven't had a chance to put together my presentation yet. I don't suppose one of you has a solid introductory presentation that you'd recommend so I don't need to start from scratch? Please consider yourselves invited to come and visit us on beautiful Bantayan Island. If a more experienced trainer is available, I'll use that as an excuse and happily organize an audience for you with the MDRRM offices and local colleges. Re: [talk-ph] Mappers in the Visayas Area
Indeed, thank you both! Yes, the OSM map for Bantayan is great, thanks for that great work. The lion's share of the mapping has already been done as you suggest it just needs a) local knowledge for tagging, and b) updates based on all the NGO and development activity since then. We have been using OSM's maps here since December, and I cannot tell you how immensely valuable they've been, especially for tracking down remote settlements (some of our beneficiaries are a 45+ minute hike from a road). Responding to Yolanda without these maps would be so much more challenging, I'm eternally grateful to folks like yourselves who have pioneered the way. We have geotagged all 900 houses that we've built and are now working with other organizations (PRC and IRW to start) to help them tag their houses as well, so we can get an improved 3W map (Who, What, Where) and identify the areas still underserved. Our maps are still internal-only as they include confidential beneficiary information, but I'll try and share in the next couple weeks once we have a publicly digestible version. Thanks Maning for the resources!! On 01/09/14 02:28, Eugene Alvin Villar wrote: 3. You fear that linking to Wikidata opens up the floodgates for linking from OSM to other databases (such as national registries and the like). But actually, it makes much more sense to link from Wikidata, being a database about data, to those other databases instead of from OSM. In fact, Wikidata already has many of properties (like keys in OSM) that provide links to other databases[1][2]. We can leverage that in OSM by linking to Wikidata. As I said earlier, wikimedia DO finally seam to be learning, but they have a long way to go before I will waste time contributing again. That THEY control what they allow to be covered is my only problem here and if I see any 'delete as not notable enough' on links History is important and just because it does not fit into someone view of the world is irrelevant. wikidata is probably a knee-jerk reaction to the wiping a vast swathes of history out of wikipedia as it does seem to be a little better? I have no problem linking to other data, and other registries ARE already using OSM to provide their graphical data. Wikidata actually needs a tag for an OSM reference ( a quick search showed nothing? ) and then we can access that data as we can other registries using OSM as well. It would be nice to have the same link on geonames which provides other key cross references already ... such as administrative hierarchy! For the time being I will concentrate on that as a cross reference to obtain timezone data for OSM. 2014-09-01 13:50 GMT+02:00 Pieren pier...@gmail.com: The question now is if your wikidata entry is about the settlement or its administrative boundary or both... The wikidata entry states it is the former (instance of http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q486972 aka human settlement) but somehow there is also an administrative reference in the description (a village and a former municipality). For the containing Arendsee it is clear, the wikidata object refers to the Gemeinde (administrative entity, municipality) and there seems to be no wikidata entity for the homonymous settlement: http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q490960 Interestingly in this particular article, the German Wikipedia mentions 2 other Arendsees: Ortschaft and Ortsteil Arendsee. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arendsee_%28Altmark%29#Gemeindegliederung Arendsee mit den OT Arendsee, Genzien und Gestien If the name had been different from the municipality (like Binde in the same municipality), these administrative entities would probably have gotten their own wikipedia page (and wikidata object): http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binde_%28Altmark%29 (again dealing with both, administrative and geographic entities) In this case, the wikidata object describes a geographical object (likely a placeholder classfication): http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q586157 My guess is that in the case of settlements we will mostly have missing wikidata entities for either the settlement or the administrative entities, because the wikidata objects have been created from wikipedia articles which typically don't distinguish between the settlement and the administrative entity but rather do cover both. It is also likely that the focus of wikipedia articles is on administrative entities, because of the requirement to prove with citations (ideally formal legislational acts) what you enter. Re: [Talk-it] Shift massivo Sassi di Matera
Re: [Talk-it] strade principali - differenze OSM - Google
- Ciao, Aury -- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/strade-principali-differenze-OSM-Google-tp5816128p5816199.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Abych negeneroval co jedna oprava to jeden changeset, osvědčil se mi tento postup: - v JOSM založit prázdnou vrstvu a hezky si jí pojmenovat, třeba MOJE - načíst z API přes to dálkové ovládání oblast, kde problém je - právě načtenou vrstvu sloučit do vrstvy MOJE - ve vrstvě MOJE provést příslušnou opravu (ostatně jiná vrstva po sloučení už není) - jít na další problém, wayn, načíst, sloučit, opravit, opakovat pořád dokola, dokud není všechno opravené. Třeba má někdo lepší postup? -- Petr ___ Talk-cz mailing list Talk-cz@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-cz

Donc je taguerais simplement bicycle=no.
