Ah. I have found that if you use 'localhost' to connect, you cannot
specify a port, it silently fails...
You can connect using a hostname (even though it's the same server
reasons). Ever since then, when I try to connect to the MySQL server it
is running dead slow. As in 20-30 seconds to get a connect.
By the way, I just tried it with MySQL Administrator and it has problems
connecting as well so it is not the connector.

That was it alright. I commented out the socket lines from mysql.ini
(restarted it) and changed my php command to:

that you can connect to by ssh, but because of firewalls, can't access
mysql through. If you can, however, connect to the database through
ssh, you can do port forwarding. In *nix systems it should be something

I am trying to connect to MySQL from within ColdFusion on a linux box.
ColdFusion (version 5) came with a Merant driver, but it is too old to
support transactions.
I've downloaded libmyodbc_mysql.so (MyODBC 2.5) and also libmyodbc3.so
(MyODBC 3.5) and could not get either of these to work. But

official binaries don't include it. See:

You should know that users and passwords are specific to the host where they
are being used.
For instance, if your root password on the server is mypass, and use it to
connect to the mysql server, then it will get accepted.
