Actually, the RPM kernel upgrades do take care of that. The process is similar
when you first install Mandrake. You did not have to compile a kernel then.
Most probably, the new modules that come with the kernel have problems with
your hardware, probably the sound card.

Hi Cindy, gave this a try with my new 5.3 install.Everything seemed to
go smoothly except it created a slightly different filename,
'vmlinuz-2.2.5-ac3-5mdk'. I'm not sure what the significance of 'ac3' is.
