Where is "TweakUI for KDE" when you need it ;-)
It would be nice to have a graphical program that really let's you tweak the
GUI to extremes.
Just my $.02,

If you are currently using Windows, you could download Go!Zilla Download
Manager. It enables you to continue if your download gets interupted.
If you are downloading from Linux, there is a similar program call Caitoo.

Try searching the archives. I think I remember seeing something on this
subject. I think it worked if the programs were launched before KPPP was
launched. I think there was a solution mentioned in the archives.

It's not a weird question. Once you install the OS, you typically want to
install additional applications. I would probably think you were weird if
you were completely content with your OS and it's applications as it comes
"right off the shelf."
To answer your question, check out:
I want to jump on a Windows machine and dial in to my Linux box.
What's the easiest way to do this? I don't want anything real complicated.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

First, make sure KPPP is set to use /dev/ttyS3. In KPPP, select the option
labeled "query modem" to be sure that KPPP is able to talk to your modem.
Then try connecting to your ISP again.

What problem was Win98 having with your BIOS?
I only ever had one problem...the settings in my BIOS had a chunk of memory
reserved for ISA cards, and this caused Linux to only use the first 15MB of
memory. I changed the setting in the BIOS, and all was well---Linux saw the
entire 80MB of
Since you can get to a console, type the following:
#dmesg boot.messages
Then just open the boot.messages file with a text editor.

Subject: [newbie] KDE on Mandrake -
Type the following as root and let us know what you get:
#cd /proc/ide
#dir
The above should tell you what ide devices are installed. You can then
input the device name into the following, "fdisk -l /dev/device name here"
and that will tell you what partitions reside on that ide device.
Try disabling the screensaver. If that doesn't do it, you can download a
program called WinTop which tells you all processes that are running, even
the hidden system ones.
