Pentax has apparently radically redesigned its macro lenses to be much more

Why not an DA Limited series ?
I guess most DSLR buyers are looking for practical and affordable lenses,
instead of luxury lenses like the Limited which really aim for manual focus
buyers.
Manual focus good - auto-focus bad.

are the Pentax 100mm dental macros more rare/collectible than the
ordinary 100mm f:4 macros?
Yes, in the sense that there aren't as many of 'em out there.
However, I've never really heard of a whole lot of excitement over
collecting them...
What is a good price to pay for one? I could get one

I could get one for 95 euros (M-version), although I want to check it out
for possible lens separation first.
In France current price
Hello all,
I know there have been already thousands of discussions about macros,
but I can't remember what the conclusion was ^^
so what do you think about the PENTAX K VIVITAR MACRO 2,8/100? How much
is a reasonable price for it? (at ebay, no professional foto dealer)
There's als a PENTAX SMC
Hi,
I have the M 100/4.0. It does a nice job on close up and macro, only goes to
1:2 without an extension tube. Adequate but hardly outstanding as a
landscape lens at infinity focus, I will change to my M 135/3.5 for
landscapes instead of using the 100.

Hi all,
Does anyone have an opinion of the 50f2.8 F macro? I noticed
from Boz's page that it looks to have the same optics as the
FA. I think the A is the one with the reputation for being
extremely sharp--how does the F compare?
I just made an impulse by of the F and should be handling
it

The FA was the sharpest lense I owned, I think. Probably the only
sharper Pentax that I've had experience with is the 200 macro.
Is that the A* or the FA*, Tom? I would say that the A* 200/4 Macro
might be just a tad
Alexander,
Thanks to you and the others for your opinions. I guess it
is mostly positive.
I am looking forward to its arrival.

The optical design of the F 50mm macro is isdentical
to that of the FA50mm macro. I have the FA version and
I rate it as a excellent. Macro shots
HERB SAID:
my limited experience from the time i had both was that the
FA Macro was
sharper enough to see the difference in the viewfinder. its
manual focusing feel is
too loose even with the clutch to hold its position well when
pointed downwards.
the F is worse in this regard.

i had for about 3 weeks both the A and the FA 50mm f2.8 macro. i never had the F
version.

Hey Herb
Just a plain old 100mm macro lens...
Sell it to the Dental Professionals (dentists) as a pro tool at a 'special'
price (big $$$). They use it for showing the work they did and getting
approval for work they will do from the medical payment authority (insurance plan).
(Think of it like getting
that has
a circular flash head that clips on the the front of the lens.
...cheers!
