The first few times I listened to "The Mountain," the new album Steve
Earle recorded with the Del McCoury Band, I couldn't stop thinking what
poor use he'd made of the group he himself calls the "best

-A three hour show, not counting the intermission. Tickets were $23
after the TicketBastard charge, but can't say you didn't get your
money's worth.

...it was real interesting to watch Steve cursing his head off as Del moved
further and further back into the darkness of the stage at The Vic, Chicago.
I'm surprised he lasts as long as he does when Steve is
won it back in October
for the 6th year in a row. The last year the World of Bluegrass Trade Show
and Awards ceremony was held in Owensboro, he came down off the stage and
gave it to Mr. Monroe, which was a classy thing to do.

Saw Del/Steve et al while in Chicago. They played at The Vic, which is a big
old theater with all the seats pulled out. Nice idea except when most of the

I've heard two reports that Earle McCoury are at Borders tomorrow
(Thursday) at 1 PM for an instore. But just today comes a note from
someone who says the unofficial Earle page lists the instore on Friday.

Well folks if Steve Earl and the Del McCoury Band come anywhere
close drop everything and see their show.
Two of the best days and nights of music I've seen in a long
time. Got to see them 2 nights at the Birchmere and a show
at the Borders Bookstore in downtown DC on Thursday afternoon.

bluegrass voices, Earle basically hasn't got one. From which
