Re: [Dx4win] wish list!
thanks Mike and Tim, did the write config file, saved and exited, now the number 3 issue is sorta right but it still comes out a tad bit large showing part of the IOTA window section I still have to hit F5 to get it to fit, but you are correct in that it tries to show the last window selected. Perhaps this is a Win 10 issue. wish #1 and #2 still behave the same! Anyway small issues and I have a whole lot more to worry about! like where did I leave the box with all the masks in? lol, 73's Cort K4WI Mike Cizek W0VTT <mailto:mgci...@gmail.com> Monday, August 10, 2020 1:43 PM Hello Courtney, Set all the windows the way you want them. I absolutely love this program and support it and Paul for sure. Here are 3 improvements that would be easy and simply changes that could be made user selectable. 1: I would like the program Log Entry window to open with a new entry instead of last entry. I have to remember to hit F9 to clear this last entry every time I start the program (every morning) and me getting old and forget it and causes problems. This could be a user selectable in Preferences. 2: I would prefer that under Help Menu that the Update window open with everything UN-selected instead of ALL selected. I normally only update the Country Files so have to manually un-check everything. This could be user selectable too. 3: I would like for the Log Entry window to open in the smallest window possible. F5 selects between multiple sizes and it opens in the mid-size and I have to re-size it every day. I would like it to stay in the size I select as it covers up my CW window. These are not big issues for sure and are just flea bites in my side and I am sure that others have bigger or more important changes they would like to see, but these three are the ones that bug me the most! Re: [Dx4win] wish list!
On number 3, you must have an issue with something in your setup/implementation. It already does what you describe you WANT it to do. IE, whatever size I have it set to, that's the size it opens in every time. I just went and resized it, closed it, opened it.over and over againtrying every possible different size. It always opens in whatever the size was the last time you were in the program. Once you select a size of the Log Entry window, it opens up in that size (you selected) every timeunless you change it to open in another size. And then, of course, it would open in that size from that point on. So number 3 is already just as you say you want it. Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)
With my previous post, I was hoping to produce a discussion of improvements needed in DX4Win, and we have a reasonable start. Some comments for a couple of the replies: To Joe, W4TV, I respectfully disagree. In 54 plus years of hamming I have found things that work for me. My suggestion of how I like to log receive, transceive and transmit frequencies has evolved over time, primarily in the age before computer logging, when I wrote QSL cards out by hand and used frequency rather than band. The DX station needs to see his transmit frequency on my QSL, not mine, which he doesn't log anyway. By doing receive/transceive frequency in one column and my transmit frequency in a separate column, I could always use the first frequency column in filling out the card, regardless of whether the QSO was simplex or split. I still prefer that arrangement for browsing my logs -- I want to see the DX's frequency first. I very well know the definition of QSX, but it doesn't really have anything to do with how I like to log QSO info. And it must be noted that my transmit frequency is ALWAYS logged by this method. And to Mike, R3BM, thank you for jogging my memory! I just had this nagging feeling that there was something I was leaving out, and auto connection to the cluster is it. Not just reconnect after interruption, but automatically connecting on DX4Win startup. I always use the same node (unless it's down for some reason), so DX4Win should at least to try to connect on program startup. It is a real annoyance to have to go through the connect sequence every time I start an operating session (even though it is just a mouse click, three presses of Enter and a mouse click on my Login macro button). My login macro issues an SH/DX/100 command to immediately populate the Spots window, and it would be nice if DX4Win did that as well. Both DXLab and HRDeluxe automatically connect on startup. Support for two rotators would be nice for those who are lucky enough to have two or more towers. I have only one 40 foot tower, so that feature wasn't on my list. Well, guys... [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)
I have only ever wanted one thing 'fixed' - the ability of the DX4Win logging program to retain the correct name/address information per QSO, regardless if the call sign has been logged before, or not. That a logging program cannot do that simple thing (remember, logging programs are/should be simple data collectors [or databases, to put it more correctly]) has always frustrated me - because I must use a 'workaround' to retain correct data (important data) rather than have the program do it property in the first place. And, I am well aware it will never be fixed (too hard, I was once told) but - that's my wish. Oh well! I am on the air since 1991. I am using dx4win since december 1997 (release 1.07 if i remember well). I think that this software is just perfect. My wish list is limited to an improvement of CAT. I know that is a very hard job but in my opinion is the only part that can be discussed. I saw easy log. It gives a number of radio and a small customizable panel with the preferred controls for each one. I really don't need an HRD cat system but something more than what it is given today. That's all. 73 de Tibor IK2SAI Tibor M. [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)
DX4Win is certainly due a refresh. My wish list (in addition to xmmt.ocx support) for the next release includes the following: QRZ.com XML data subscription support in the F3 Callsign/Mgr Lookup window. This is LONG OVERDUE! Having to use a callbook CD is so archaic and annoying, since they are out of date as soon as you get them. Automatic removal of old spots from the DX Spots window (as happens in the BandMap). A Preferences option to control this behavior would be nice. That would keep those who like it the way it is happy, too. Smooth, clean and transparent disabling of the radio interface if the radio is turned off before shutting down DX4Win. Automatic re-establishment of the connection if the radio is turned back on. Other programs do this, e.g. WriteLog. An indicator on the QSO window that the rig interface is not working would be nice, e.g. a blinking red dot, showing No Rig! in the frequency box, or flashing frequency/mode info. But it should not hang DX4Win and demand that the operator click on a dialog box to proceed. Proper logging of split frequency operation. The Frequency box should always be the receive frequency, i.e. the frequency that the DX is transmitting on. The QSX (transmit) frequency should be logged in a field separate from the current Frequency box only if operating split. (It is currently done in reverse from this.) Well, that's my list of the biggest annoyances. I am sure there are others that I haven't thought of right now. I recently evaluated DXLab and HRDeluxe. Quite frankly, DX4Win is much better than either of these in ease of use, award tracking, award submission and many other areas. Not to mention AD1C's efforts on all the various database files! Now, if only it could be updated to fix the above problems, I would be a very happy camper! 73, Craig, K0CF __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I'd like to say how much I truly enjoy using DX4WIN with all its capabilities and flexibility. Having AD1C doing the tremendous job of keeping so many things up-to-date and working properly is fabulous! Here is something I'd like to see. When I work a station that hasn't been spotted, I'd like it to appear on the BandMap without me needing to spot it myself. And, I'd like to be able to enter a station on the BandMap without working it or spotting it just like can be done with CTRL+ENTER on many Contest Programs. Either of these would allow me cruise the Band and know who is where without clogging up the Packet Network with some spots that no one else might care about. Hi! My two cents: -What about the automatic reconnection of DX cluster if it lost connection? WinTest can do it - More then one antenna rotor support - many HAM's have two or even more towers/rotors - When DX4WIN is started, the last QSO in the log is displayed and you should always push F9 to start logging - why? 73! Mike R3BM -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of K0CF Sent: Friday, October 11, 2013 8:29 PM To: DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx) DX4Win is certainly due a refresh. 73, Craig, K0CF __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Wish list
I looked at HRD at the Visalia Intl DX Convention, even got a sample trial CD. I was looking at a way to use RTTY and digital modes directly from HRD where you could read what was being sent right within HRD and then send your reply. But it seems really complicated. He was using 2 monitors full of info. It would seem the learning curve would be big. When I asked how do you do a lookup of a station that you have just logged or are presently in QSO with it seemed like a difficult procedure on HRD whereas with DX4WIN you just have to have the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP window (F3) open and click on the guys callsign and it takes you to his QRZ.COM lookup (or Buckmaster if you have it so programmed). Very simple. I'm not sure but is HRD both a contesting and a general logging program? I am now using DX4WIN as my general logger and to track awards (DXCC, IOTA, WPX) and printing QSL labels and N1MM as my contest logger. Jim has a FB conversion program to convert a contest ADIF file to a DX4WIN.DXQ file to import to DX4WIN. I just used it again after last weekend's IOTA contest and DX4WIN now shows I logged a few new IOTA's. Re: [Dx4win] Wish list
Alan, No debate that HRD has a learning curve, because it is very feature rich. For the particular issue you raise, looking up a call, one merely right clicks on the decoded call and select call and the window on the left will be auto populated with QRZ data such as name, QTH and locator grid, along with the current solar indices, and a list of bands if you have worked this station before. You can do this even before you make the contact or log the QSO. If you log the QSO, then from the logbook you can click QRZ and all of the gory details such as QSL route, mailing address, operator age, etc. will be filled in. I have used DX4WIN for quite a few years, but have been riding the fence for the last four, with most of my operating/contesting being done with HRD. HRD is OK for the casual contester, but it is certainly not top tier for that purpose. I primarily migrated to HRD because of the broad support of digital modes that are built in. 73, Jim - N4ST -Original Message- From: ALAN ZACK [mailto:k7...@cox.net] Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2013 15:00 To: 'Jim - N4ST'; 'Dx4win' Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Wish list I looked at HRD at the Visalia Intl DX Convention, even got a sample trial CD. [Dx4win] Wish list
For future releases: 1) Ability to block self spotters. 2) Ability to block non-DX spots inside the same continent (or even inside the same country)! 3) Ability to block bragging spots: tnx, tks, tu, thx 4) Ability to block begging spots: pse... These make more than 80% of spots received today. The cluster software people refuse to make commands available to do this. I am able to block most of the bragging and begging spots in DXSpider, but the rest? IARU and others have made excellent guidelines how to use a DX Cluster, but very few operators seem to have read them. I have even heard an Italian station to claim that DX Code of Conduct is wrong! Much education is needed, but how to address the ex-CB operators who do not care? Agree with Jim. Dx4win should leave some duties to other free software as clusters to ve7cc, rig control to omnirig, lotw to tqsl, erc for rotators control, jt65 for strange digi, msstv for sstv, digipan for psk, etc. but these programs should be integrated with dx4win as mmtty already is. What's better running dx4win and while it opens, will load ve7cc connecting to clusters automatically, load also omnirig to have cat control for all new radios, sdr, etc and when I want to ulpoad my qsos to Lotw, press a button and voila... As stated earlier: I would like to see the ability to see only spots needed for band Challenge. In other words, If I have a band that has at least one mode confirmed, I would not see the Any mode spots for that band. This clutters up the DX Spots screen. So many of us are interested in the Challenge now. Once a Band country has been confirmed, I don't need to see additional spots for CW/Phone,etc...if I have that band country confirmed...excuse meEntity. Also, a combined startup for the Cluster Connect when DX4WIN is Opened would be very nice. I am not sure if it can be done in 8.05. Thanks to everyone who has made DX4WIN what it is today. [Dx4win] DX4WIN wish list
I have searched the DX4WIN home page for a wish list but didn't find one. I have two suggestions for consideration on future updates. 1. In the main logging window in the QSL area there are presently the following slots: LABEL, QSL DATE, CNFM, and METHOD. I would like to suggest that the QSL DATE slot be changed to QSL DATE SENT and an additional slot be added for QSL DATE RCVD. In that way we can track how long it is from when a QSL is sent until a reply is received. Sometimes people will ask on the various reflectors if anyone has received a QSL from a DX station. With this additional slot we could track when the QSL was received. There is enough room next to the METHOD slot to add this additional slot. 2. I would like to see the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP window made to automatically open when the program starts as do the other windows. In other words, once you open this window DX4WIN would remember its size and position and open it each time DX4WIN is started as it does to all the other windows selected from the WINDOW drop down window. As it is now you must hit F3 every time you start DX4WIN to get the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP to open. I use it all the time and don't understand why it can't be made to open with all the other windows when DX4WIN is started. V/r Alan, K7ACZ A user of DX4WIN since when in was on 5 inch floppies! Well I thought the idea of making a hardware switch to control more than 2 radios was a great idea... how I leave up to the experts ;-) I suppose the ideal solution would be a USB driven relay box such as we use for band switches. maybe you should ask Paul to consider supporting it. You could always make an optional cheaper 4 port version for radio control I suspect. Maybe some of the contest logger guys would be interested too. I'd love to interface it with a box to route Audio and CW lines as well as the RF . Re: [Dx4win] Wish List
No this is not necessary. To those of us with more than 2 radios... often the case when active on VHF/UHF... it is just necessary to be able to easily select which radio is Radio 1 or Radio 2 as a start. This is implemented in most competitive logging programs hot switching more than 2 would be even better... usually radios VHF UHF have their own antennas/amps so the SO2R RF switching is not necessary... however I like your idea for expanding the LPT control. I can imagine many useful functions such as routing the Mic or Key as well as RF routing. Randy Farmer wrote: Hi, I really like the option to choose between different radios quickly. Re: [Dx4win] wish list for 8.02 or later
Mike, With a little hardware it is possible to have 2 rotators and other antennas Connected to dx4win. Let us assume that you have only 1 radio and identical rotators. In preferences|radio tab|set the second radio equal to the first radio In preferences|CW tab|set the RADIO 1/2 signal to lpt1-2 or 3 (reverse can be set also) Save and exit Now you can switch from radio1 to radio2 with ctrl+shift+F12 even it is the same radio But when You do this PIN 14 of the selected LPT port is low (radio1) and high (radio2) If you connect a relay to pin14 you can switch the serialport from motor1 to motor2 Also antennas can be switch via this way. Before you download the lotwreport.adi file from ARRL, there is a check box (normally UNCHECKED) that allows you to include extra information in the downloaded lotwreport.adi file. Unchecking the detail box suppresses everything except the occurrence of the QSL. Actually, I WANT the state, grid, etc. information to update the log; this is especially useful for 6 meter VUCC updates and good to have just in case I should decide to start chasing counties in the future. I just don't see that it needs to be put in twice, once in the fields where it belongs and again in the QSO comments field. 73... I think we're missing Randy's point. Users shouldn't have to fix this stuff. Some will be able to, some won't. Perhaps Paul can make two changes: 1. An option to NOT put the LoTW comments in the Notes for this QSO field 2. A Multiple QSO operation to remove such comments from an existing log. DX4WIN still needs a way to identify cases where the LoTW data doesn't match what's already in the log. Randy, I assume that's OK with you. I agree on all counts. Items 1 and 2 would have saved me a huge amount of time. It is important that data mismatches be flagged for resolution. 73... [Dx4win] Wish list, again -- LOTW Import
Having just done a major cleanup of a log with around 55K QSOs, many of them imports from contest logs, I would like to revive the Wish List thread in hopes of influencing the development of future versions of DX4WIN. Specifically, there is room for major improvement in how DX4WIN handles data imports from downloaded LOTW reports. About a year ago, I bit the bullet and decided to import all the 50K+ QSOs from my electronic contest logs, going back to 1989. When the import was complete, I uploaded the log (in several installments) to the LOTW server and was rewarded with around 4000 QSLs. I just did the import of the LOTW report ADIF files back into DX4WIN with the Imported QSO sets Upload Flag option set, and have continued to follow that procedure with succeeding updates ever since. This worked fine, and I have picked up lots of DXCC credits from this process. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to be scrolling through the logbook window and realized that the log file was terribly cluttered with large amounts of redundant information in the Notes for this QSO field. I decided to see if I could clean up a lot of this stuff. To my horror, I found in excess of 3000 records that needed to have this material expunged. What do I mean by redundant? If you look at what happens when the program imports a LOTW report, you'll understand. To give a near worst-case example, let's say I get a LOTW QSL for a QSO I made with my friend KU8E in the CQ WPX contest. Since the only exchange in WPX consists of a 599 and serial number, the original contest QSO record will have only the received serial number in the Received log field and the Notes for this QSO field will say Freq=xx,xxxKHz, WPX CW . (This is the result of using AD1C's very nice ADIF2DXQ software -- thanks, Jim!). When I do the import of the LOTW record, assuming Jeff has provided all the possible information, the following will be appended to the text in the Notes for this QSO field: LOTW: State=GA County=Harris Grid=EM72 CQZone5. What's redundant here? Practically everything! The LOTW: part isn't needed, since the record import sets the Upl Cnf flag. The 'State=GA County=Harris aren't needed, since the record import populates the State and County fields. Similarly, the Grid field is also populated, so the Grid=EM72 isn't needed. The CQZone5 part IS useful information, given that the initial import of the contest QSO caused DX4WIN to populate the Zone field with a 4 based on the 8 in the call. Unfortunately, DX4WIN does NOT update the Zone from the imported data. This may not be all bad, since there are a good many LOTW users who mistakenly enter their IARU zone in the CQ zone box when they upload their log files and thus provide the wrong zone in their QSL record. The details of the log changes are really good to have, but they certainly don't belong in the Notes for this QSO field. This information should instead be placed in a transaction log that is generated (or appended to) by the import process. Some sort of indicator in the log that there is updated data that conflicts with previously logged information is a good idea, but this would be much less intrusive than filling the log file with what amounts to a transaction log of the import process. By the way, manually editing thousands of records in the log to get rid of the spurious text was simply too overwhelming to contemplate, as the program provides no tools to manipulate the notes field. What I ended up doing was to export the log in chunks as a .dxq file (choose File Import/Export from the main window, and then select DX4WIN6 format File Export in the Import/Export Filters window) and use WordPad to edit the .dxq file. Editing the .dxq file with WordPad is still a major pain, since the text following the LOTW: in each record is unique and you can't just do a search and replace to remove the unwanted text. But it does go much, much faster working with the text file to select and delete the spurious content from each record. After fixing the .dxq file, I then re-imported it into the original log file and let the imported dupes replace the existing records. I broke the project into manageable chunks and finally got all the log entries fixed. It was a monumental job. You can bet I'll stay on top of it in the future. Lest this sound like too much like whining, I want to be clear that I'm still extremely pleased with the comprehensive capabilities of DX4WIN. It does a great job of keeping track of award status and gives the user unparalleled flexibility in handling log data. But like any software, there's always room for improvement. In my book fixing the LOTW import process would be a great leap forward. 73... Re: [Dx4win] Wish list, again -- LOTW Import
This is easily solved, but BEFORE the fact. Before you download the lotwreport.adi file from ARRL, there is a check box (normally UNCHECKED) that allows you to include extra information in the downloaded lotwreport.adi file. You must be checking that box, because that is what is adding all the extra data into your log. 73 - Jim AD1C On Thu, Apr 2, 2009 at 7:34 PM, Randy Farmer w...@tx.rr.com wrote: Having just done a major cleanup of a log with around 55K QSOs, many of them imports from contest logs, I would like to revive the Wish List thread in hopes of influencing the development of future versions of DX4WIN. Re: [Dx4win] Wish list, again -- LOTW Import
Hi all, I realize that Randy was wanting the fix in the next DX4WIN version; but... Does anyone else dislike the LOTW: phrase as much as Randy? Let me know direct (save band-width). If enough people would like it removed, I can write a program that would remove all, or the non-conflicting fields, fields from the log (either a ADIF or .DXQ file). If I write a program, are there any other clean up options that anyone might want? For instance, if I find a Error:Mode=OLIVIA msg in the QSO Notes, should I change the MODE to OLIVIA and remove the msg from the notes? 73, Lee N7NU __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Check again... you should see this order: CW, SSB, RTTY, ASCI, ATV, and so on. I still think inactive modes should not appear at all... generally D4W is very good at data entry in off-line mode without using the mouse if you set up the disable fields which just disables tabs to that field ... but if I enter an SSB contact followed by a CW contact I have to hit the C twice when Mode has the focus to step through Clover. [Dx4win] DX4Win - Wish list
I have been reading the posts with great interest, and was 'happy' to see that the number of groups was going to be increased beyond 256 in the next update. I had been asking for that since 2005, but re-arranged my log only six months ago, believing that there was no likelihood of this change being made. Better late than never, as it will, obviously, help others. My other, very long standing, wish is that the name/address of any call should not automatically be copied to a new QSO in the 'Notes for this Call' box. The sheer number of 'old' calls' re-appearing with new owners makes this information, as it functionally stands, useless as far as accuracy is concerned for a significant, and growing, number of calls. Also, many Dxpeditions now identify the actual operator with which you had the QSO, and it would be nice if you could record this information, accurately, in the 'Notes for this Call' box. (Yes, I know you can record it in the 'Notes for this QSO' box - but that is a, poor, second best, scenario. So, a 'switch' to turn this function 'on/off' would be a good way to suit everyone. Along the same lines... it would be nice if the Modes drop down only listed valid nodes for the station. Minor... but should be real easy. Another are that needs a look is the Calendar. That has to be the worst user interface I have ever encountered... except for perhaps MultiPSK ;-) Along with an easy to use import we could keep a master calendar on Jim's site for import... wouldn't that be handy... marc...@alternex.com.br wrote: In Custom Awards with many options (like Russian RDA), to be able to type the info, not having to press down arrow flipping through hundreds of districts. Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win - Wish list
It isn't copied Ernie... it is a unique record that maps to the callsign... and is very useful as it stands... it should be left alone. BTW, I have the same issue as my log goes back to 1969. What Paul needs to do is add a new field for name. I'm not sure, with access to QRZ.Com and such, whether there is any need to store the address... maybe a short field for QTH might be useful. These fields perhaps should copy forward by default... but this could be overridden. This would take care of this issue or archival information. And Paul... PLEASE add a field for frequency data. D4W complicates lfe unnecessarily when exchanging data via ADIF by not supporting dedicated fields for Name/QTH/Freq. Paul, if you read this... it would require a data migration utility. The present convention seems to be name on the first line and QTH on the second line of notes. Personally, I would rank this (simpler LoTW updates) as more important. I upload more frequently (not in small part due to chasing the Triple Play Award, and after getting it, helping out others), sometimes multiple times per day. Given that there is an API (more or less) for using LoTW and a way to call TQSL to sign the files being uploaded, it would be nice to have. Mel Martin wrote: 3. Nice but not urgent. Hi Dick, I haven't been involved in software for quite as long as you (only since the mid-70s ... I'm a youngster), but I had a saying that I used to use along those same lines: Fast, cheap, good: Pick two. Of course, in a situation like this, with a single developer it's tough to apply the fast attribute, though I suppose if Paul wanted to, he could spend a fortune, hire a fleet of programmers, and then have to pass the entire cost on to us, something that probably isn't practical. Personally, while there are a few features I'd like to see, I'd prefer to see it get done right, rather than simply fast. What I do think is great is the increase in communication from Paul, so that we know that he's listening to what folks are asking for. While I wouldn't mind getting a sneak peak at what kinds of things are in store for the next version (be it version 8, 7.3, or whatever), I also realize that it's Paul's decision and he's going to do what's best for his business. Like many of us I chase DXCC and WAZ. Something I have requested for years is the ability to view DXCC and WAZ opportunities at the same time in the DX Spots window. I find it very inconvenient to be required to toggle between DXCC/WAZ/WPX. However I've never taken the time to lay out how I think it would work. I've created a mockup to show my idea. The last column on the right is one I created to show WAZ opportunities. The colors would be the same as you have set up for DXCC. To be complete I guess there should also be a WPX column that would function the same. I would leave the DXCC/WAZ/WPX toggle as this would determine which of the three the main screen shows. The two new columns then would display the other two. http://kk6t.com/DX4win_WAZ_MockUp.jpg 73 de Terry KK6T __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] Wish list
The way I think D4W is working... that's not going to happen like that. However, it is possible to have a combined award display where the spot priority (which determines the color) is determined to be the higher of the awards you are actively chasing. That way, if you needed Zone 2 on 160M, if you see a brightly colored VE2 you can be pretty sure it's Zone 2. I don't think that would be too much work for Paul... and I suspect, given D4W's raison d'être is award chasing, he is going to support the new CQ awards eventually and will need some extra selections. Instead of having a selection DXCC/WAZ/WPX have checkboxes for DXCC/WAZ/WPX/CQ Field at the top of the form. If you check DXCC and WAZ... if its flagged... work it... figure out why later ;-) Terry wrote: Like many of us I chase DXCC and WAZ. Re: [Dx4win] Wish list
You can work around it, if you use the UP arrow to change the mode. The modes that you have enabled in the program are in the list FIRST, followed by the disabled modes. I realize it's not an ideal solution. I can see the downside to what you're suggesting, however. Say you try to log a QSO on a non-enabled band or mode. Now you can't log it without changing your preferences. I can see how it's easy to lose such a QSO in the panic of battle. Or you can log it with the wrong band or mode, change your prefs, then change the QSO, something else that's easy to forget to do. 73 - Jim AD1C On 3/18/2009 7:48 PM, J.F. A band map 2. a new packet window (more automated) 3. upload to lotw with one button and one button download also 4. auto update for country files 5. one more line (3 lines total) in every label 6. Omnirig support and yes i believe that if next version has these features must be named 8.0 At the end... there is a free beautiful program for anyone likes digital modes called digital master 780. It would be nice if dx4win could support this one like does with mmtty 73.. Re: [Dx4win] Wish list
In Custom Awards with many options (like Russian RDA), to be able to type the info, not having to press down arrow flipping through hundreds of districts. Marcelo, PY1KN I believe that it is possible to have a dx4win 8.0 until Dayton. It's usual for Paul to update the program close to Dayton. [Dx4win] Wish List - More Radios
Dear All, My real big wish for DX4WIN would be for it to be able to accommodate more than two radios. The change from 1 to 2 radios, a little while ago, was great. Can it now be written to allow for 3 or 4 radios?? Would be of great interest and save so much unplugging and what have you. Is it being considered?? Or should I say can it be done?? 73's de Tony G8DQZ
[Dx4win] Wish List - More Radios
Hi Tony. I'd like this as well. In the mean time, if you have a couple of radios that are the same (like two FT1000MPs in an SO2R configuration, for example) you can use a 9-pin A/B switch box. A cheap and pretty easy solution to switching between a couple of similar radios. You may have thought of this already, or don't have any matching radios, but though I would throw that out there. - Scott KA9FOX At 09:13 AM 6/7/2006 +0100, Tony Lord wrote: Dear All, My real big wish for DX4WIN would be for it to be able to accommodate more than two radios. [Dx4win] Wish List
Hi all, one thing I would love to see on future version of DX4WIN is as follows. I receive a number of cards from SWL's confirming that they have heard me talking to whoever. I always reply to SWL's using the SWL label printing services of DX4WN. However the label that is printed does not show to whom I was talking, it just shows SWL's callsign and of course my own? Is it easy to make a change to show the callsign of the station I was talking to?? 73's de Tony G8DQZ
[Dx4win] Wish List: Grids Don't Erase
Mike, I will second the grid thing. 73 John EMAIL: [EMAIL PROTECTED] MY WEBSITE: http://www.w9rpm.com BLUFF COUNTRY DX CLUB: http://www.qsl.net/w9idx/ Free Ham Radio Classified Ads: http://swap.QTH.com - Original Message - From: Mike Rhodes [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Friday, November 26, 2004 6:23 PM Subject: [Dx4win] Wish List: Grids Don't Erase Greetings all. Just taking advantage of the 6m opening going on right now and got reminded of one of the very few aggrevations with DX4Win. That is, every time the callsign field is populated in the real-time logging mode, the grid gets erased! Same thing happens if the callsign is changed! Pretty big pain in the butt if the first thing copied and entered is the grid. Next go round gets the call and bang, the grid is gone. There may be some time in life when it is desirable to be unable to enter the grid until after the call is entered (correctly) but I have not figured out just when that time might be. If I have something set incorrectly that is causing this, I would certainly appreciate someone enlightening me. Oh yeah, add me to the list of folks anxiously awaiting hooks for MMTTY too. [Dx4win] WISH LIST
Rick, Your AI idea is great, but please consider Aurora is not restricted to VHF ! I have made dozens of Aurora-contacts in the past on HF, mainly 28 MHz, but also a couple on 21 and 18 MHz I can tell you all of them had the typical Au-hiss. 73 de PA0RDY, Rob - Original Message - From: Rick Graham [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'DX4WIN' Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Saturday, April 10, 2004 4:51 AM Subject: [Dx4win] WISH LIST As I'm typing in some of my old logs to DX4WIN, I wish that it would have a little AI built in. Example: I work a person on SSB mode, the RS(T) should default to being able to type in TWO characters. The exception would be for Aurora contacts (57A), but then again if it had the AI to know that Aurora contacts are only VHF... Just a minor rant... 73 DE AI3W, Rick ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

[Dx4win] DX4WIN wish list
I've just finished the arduous task of submitting 775 QSLs for various DXCC awards and one change in the Submission feature would have made the job MUCH easier: Would it be possible for the Submission sort to be by Prefix (in DX4WIN language, that's DXCC Entity) order, rather than by Callsign? As an example, the card for 3E1DX would appear under HP Panama, rather than under 3E1. For those of us who file cards in country order, this change would make pulling those cards for DXCC submissions more efficient (if still not pleasurable!). 73, Dave, W2PK
[Dx4win] DX4WIN wish list
Dave, That is the exaact reason I file my QSLs by callsign instead of Country. Makes it much easier to pull them for a submission. However, I too often have the need to order the contacts in some different form. Simplest way I have come up with is to save the report as a file and then import it into a spreadsheet program and sort it any which way. Mike / W8DN - Original Message - From: David M. [Dx4win] Wish List - Filter Functionality
Just wondering if it is possible to make the filter function effective when doing QSL labels. I have a small number of Qs marked for labels at the moment but have an even smaller portion of those that I would like to process right now. Looks like my options are, 1) Process them all, or 2) Manually deselect the ones I don't want to do now and then manually put them back in, neither of which is nearly as appealing as just filtering the ones I want. Same thing applies when doing a DXCC Submission function. Sure would be nice to be able to do that on filtered data, especially when trying to work around the $0.20 per card over 120 limit (or whatever the correct numbers are :--) ). I can see myself doing multiple filtered passes on the log and trimming the fat in between runs to get the card count I am looking for. Those are just the two occasions that come to mind at the moment. There are probably other times when it would be handy too. Or, have I completely overlooked something and the way to accomplish what I'm trying to do already exists? But regardless, DX4Win is still the best damn logging program going !! [Dx4win] Wish List - DTR RTS Line
HI Paul Fellow DX4WINr's, Some time ago I purchased a RIGblaster plus for all the new digital modes to use with a TS-850. I'll try to make this short... In order to operate CW from DX4WIN it would be nice if BOTH the DTR RTS lines for PTT CW keying could be directed to another COM port apart from the one used by the radio. If my idea is correct, this would allow compatibility with other RTTY (using true FSK) CW software. I believe the current options are NONE, LPT1 through 3, DTR on Radio port, and RTS on Radio port. Recently, there has been some discussion on serial port cards. For those that may be looking for another alternative, I am successfully using a PCI bus four port serial card by JDR Microdevices, Cat # MCT-4PS-1, with a Windows 2000 system. What a relief the PCI bus offers from all the old ISA bus related IRQ juggling. 73/DX Bob - N9SF
