There have been TV shows and movies done about and EMP attack. I'm
wondering since I don't get good cell phone reception if I'm living in a
Faraday cage. When I helped my dad install fiberglass insulation in the
1960s it was foil lined. That would work and my house is that era and
when I bored a hole through the wall to install a security camera there
was foil in the sawdust.

I've gotten soft in my old age, Feste. Where I live now the coldest it
gets is about 30F and that is rare. The average temperature in the
winter is about 40F with rain and damp so it isn't exactly California
but it is temperate and I don't need a face mask, ski goggles and moon
boots to venture outside.

I've also heard from aging Fairfielders who have moving to more
southerly climes so as to avoid the Fairfield winters. Gotta love the
temperate Bay Area though but it's getting too expensive for many people
to afford.

My last winter in eastern Washington was in January of 1989 when the
temps got down to below zero. I had studded tires on as that was the
only way I could even keep my FWD Subaru on the road. In early January
1982 I had to drive from Seattle to Moscow, Idaho for a club gig. There
had been a blizzard. I arrived in fine shape to play the gig that
evening which didn't happen because the other band members had to turn
back to get chains to make it over the pass. My drive was amusing
through roads with 2-3 foot snow drifts on the side.

Sometimes when Seattle would get bad snow storms I would be among the
few driving around and most all the cars were Subarus.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Just For the Record

2015-10-04 Thread Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife]
This is an example of a non right/left issue. It's newspaper owners
holding on to a business model that went out of style in the 21st
century. Those with vision shifted to their central distribution to
Internet. It's a problem though to monetize it. You can have online
subscriptions as we now have a new local weekly that does both paper and
online. They charge a subscription for both but you can still read the
online version for the moment free. Their website is responsive designed
so it works both well on desktops and mobile. That's not hard to do
anymore with the frameworks available.

Online advertising is another problem. Companies like Google push
interstitials (full screen ads) because they can charge more for them
but people just dismiss them or if they lock up their mobile device
(which they can do) they won't visit that site again. I read recently
in Advertising Age that businesses are finding targeted advertising not
worth the price either (thank God!). Some sites decry ad blockers and I
think why not just embed the ad anyway since the only real use of
cookies is for targeted ads. Yahoo embeds ads so you still see some even
with an ad blocker on.

The other thing Google and ad services were pushing is video ads. Don't
you just hate those? There comes a point where you annoy a potential
customer enough they won't buy your product ever.

to day. However, the Saturday and Sunday paper recently went up to
three dollars and I decided that it wasn't worth it. I stopped buying
it on those days but I wasn't the only one! Now, the stack of papers
just sit there on the weekend. Nobody, or at least, virtually nobody,
buys the Saturday or Sunday paper anymore. It's over priced. Now the
delivery person has to remove them and take them back on Mondays with
no money earned on those days. I've checked other stores and found
pretty much the same results. Why pay three bucks when I can read the
news on line? Why pay a dollar fifty? That's just a bad habit I'll
probably address soon.Poor news paper delivery person.

for a burger? If you are truly paying less for a burger then how do
you think that can come about? Hint: you have to cut costs. What is
the easiest way to cut costs? Pay your employees less. Is your $3
hamburger worth it knowing others don't make a living wage? I don't
eat at McDonalds - never have for a whole lot of reasons but if I did
I would like to think the staff were not the equivalent of indentured
servants. It's a bit the chicken and the egg. If you can't make enough
money to live beyond the poverty level by working at McDonalds than
what person would choose to work there? I'll tell you. Those who
either don't have the education or experience or luck to find a better

We've had it this town since July. Already some of the small restaurants
and businesses have closed. The weird thing was watching people who I
thought had brains become ideologues about the issue (and other things
as well). I point out the problem isn't wages it's an inflated cost of
living.

Minimum wage jobs are not supposed to be a career. There a way for
someone to make some money while going to college or high school kids
doing dumb jobs after school for some pocket money. At that some of us
can recall when people could not only survive on a minimum wage (like in
the late 1960s) but rent a house (or own one), buy a decent car (I
bought a brand new Datsun wagon in 1973 for $1800), dine out and go to
movies.

In this town the price of a sandwich has gone from $5 to $8 and now $10
at some places. The other thing is we have economic microclimates. That
same same sandwich for $10 may go for $7 the next town over or even $6
in Berkeley.

My mortgage payment on a small 4 bedroom house in a nice part of town is
less than what it costs to rent a single bedroom studio apartment in
this town. And then there is San Francisco where the rent on studio
apartment can run around $4K a month but food is cheaper than here.

If you as me the economy is really out of whack and it started getting
really weird after 9/11. You'd think it was a conspiracy. These
conditions can't go on forever without there being an uprising.

So when is Obama going to slash the defense budget? We spend more than
enough money on wars of empire to suit the corporatists to pay for
health care for every man, woman and child in the US. If you ban guns
how will that work? I suspect the average gun these days costs around
$500. If they are asked to turn them folks will want that money back.
When there have been sponsored gun turn ins most people just turned in
things like "uncle Charlie's old 45 that no one wanted because they
fingered it would blow up if they tried to shoot it."

There's also the nagging possibility that if all guns are turned in then
the corporate lackeys like the President will declare martial law and
make the US a police state. As long as people can own guns a police
state is unlikely to happen though they try to creep it up on us.

I'm probably more disturbed, being a liberal myself, about a kind of
liberal I haven't seen before. They're kind of a robot, parroting some
dialectic that sounds more Stalinist than liberal. But history says this

I guess these mass shootings are a new development, so perhaps thatis
the case.

What I am saying, Steve, is that the apparent runaway train of gun
ownership and lethal gun use on fellow human beings seems to be tied
to the state of our society where absurdly rich exist geographically
within spitting distance of those who can't afford a decent meal (I
was listening to NPR tonight driving home from work and there was an
interview where they were talking about the wealthy in Manhattan whose
net income per year was, on average, 120K and just a 25 minute commute
away in the Bronx were folks who made, on average $20K per annum).
This creates a problem. This creates the potential for violence. This
can make people crazy with resentment, with need and then place a gun
in their hands and all bets are off. Threatening becomes easy. Killing
becomes more likely than not killing.

Perhaps then we need a maximum wage if we're going to have a minimum

But anyway, you have the Internet so why the hell would you even want a
paper version of the news? The Chron is still a full sized newspaper
but the Contra Costa Times and probably Mercury News are tabloid size
these days (about the same size as a magazine page).

I also get local news via streaming radio and local news blogs. Believe
it or not there is a new paper news startup over here in Martinez though
they have a decent responsive design web site which requires a
subscription too. They delivered free papers the first month in
business. It's a weekly though and the local businesses can afford the

My reply to empty's post below was about how people use the fascist when
they mean authoritarian. But in his case he seems to embrace the true
meaning of fascism as Mussolini and Franco applied it. In the case
below the word "authoritarian" should have been used not "fascism".
Political activist Medea Benjamin also says people should not use
fascism because the public is confused about the term.

Similarly I find people use the term capitalism when they mean free
enterprise. Private and publicly held businesses are free enterprise
but private businesses don't engage in "capitalism" until they go public
and lose their soul in the process. Capitalism puts the emphasis on the
stockholder shifting it away from the customer. I think Adam Smith
would even say that is a unintended consequence and that the focus
should still remain on the customers which with good products allows the
company to grow and be profitable. Capitalism is merely a method of
financing growth.

BTW, I'm not talking through my hat as I as involved with a small
company that went public so experienced the process first hand.

"Today's Eclipse

Any lunar eclipse or solar eclipse for that matter, is highly
inauspicious. (not good for y! ou)

Probably the easiest way to understand this is that there are deities
or positive beings that reside in the grahas or planets. When eclipsed
or blocked, the planets don't shine their auspicious rays on the
earth. An analogy would be lying on the beach with the sun on your
face trying to get some sun color and someone stands between you and
the sun for a long period of time. Obviously you won't get the direct
rays of the sun that you had anticipated. The person eclipsed your sun
rays.

Every planet shines its rays towards the earth just like the moon. We
all know the moon affects the mind of the individual as it waxes or
wanes (gets bigger and smaller) throughout the month. When the moon
gets full it is very powerful on our minds. Some people can't handle
all that power. It makes them go a bit crazier than usual. Hence the
term lunacy. "Luna" meaning moon.

For years people have recorded crime statistics that show during the
full moon people behave different than usual and more crimes are
committed during the full moon period. Spiritually, the full moon can
be highly auspicious and bring great results towards us during a full
moon. When blocked during an eclipse, those good full moon rays or
auspicious effects or blessings, are suspended.

Contrary to very popular opinion, one should not look at the eclipse,
should not be outside in the eclipse and should not! eat during the
eclipse. The media loves these rare and unique astrological events.
Everyone consequently runs outside to witness the event. School kids
are even assigned by their teachers to go outside and watch it as it
unfolds.
The reality is is very inauspicious to do so. Especially for pregnant
women. If you need to watch it, then watch it on television or YouTube
after the fact but don't watch it in person.

It is said by the great Saints and Masters, the best thing to do
during an eclipse is fast, meditate, pray or do something that is good
for you and

aligns you with the positive energies in the Universe. Enjoy."

Professional musician's Kool-Aide. No LSD either. I saw the Beach Boys
in fall 1966 in Seattle and was introduced to Mike Love and Al Jardine
by Stephen Stills in fall 1967.

Pet Sounds came out in 1966 and Smiley Smile in Sept 67. The Beatles
met Maharishi in August 67 and went to India in Feb 68. So most of the
band in the 60s part was before Maharishi. And yes the Cusack part
takes place beginning in the late 70s through early 90s. If you have
the disc check out the extras. I rented it at Redbox on Blu-ray and
it's not a "rental edition" so I was up to 2 AM to watch all the extras.

Beach Boys discography:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Boys_discography

I also met with Al DeLory who is portrayed in the film in fall of
1967. The band I had in high school had a member who was originally
from LA and related to the Wilson.

Small world.

The movie opens when he met his second wife, in 86. And then flashes
back and forth to the good old days, in the 60s. Plenty of room to
mention anything. The reason they didn’t was undoubtedly because
after the Beach Boys’ involvement, which for everyone except Mike Love
lasted about 5 minutes, Brian made it perfectly clear he didn’t give a
hoot in hell, even going on TV and giving away the mantras. One of
his finer performances, I might add. :)

I am enjoying the movie, which I’m watching right now. Apart from his
second wife, it focuses on his relationship with his crackpot
“therapist” Eugene Landy. For Wilson, as for many, many others, TM
was an all-too-brief stop in a life filled with far more important
issues. He just didn’t give a crap. Get over it.

"Today's Eclipse

Video about the Super Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse today and tonight.
Any lunar eclipse or solar eclipse for that matter, is highly
inauspicious. (not good for you)

We
all know the moon affects the mind of the individual as it waxes or
wa! nes (gets bigger and smaller) throughout the month.

Contrary to very popular opinion, one should not look at the eclipse,
should not be outside in the eclipse and should not eat during the

Enjoy."

[FairfieldLife] Love & Mercy

2015-09-27 Thread Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife]
"Love & Mercy" is the story of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. It is a
surprising good film with Paul Dano playing Wilson in his early days and
John Cusack playing him in the later years. Elizabeth Banks plays
Melinda, Wilson's second wife and Paul Giamatti, Dr. Eugene Landy the
doctor who ran Wilson's life for quite a while.

The casting is so well done that the actors who play the Beach Boys look
a lot like them. The studio musicians of The Wrecking Crew were well
cast too as Hal Blaine is a character in the film.

The film makers, director Bill Pohlad and writer Oren Moverman did not
just want to show Wilson's tribulations but also his process of writing
a song and they do an excellent job. They were assisted in the
production of the film by Brian himself and his wife Melinda.

This is quite a story and there is no mention of TM nor Maharishi in it
but that's because it covers the period before the Beach Boys
involvement with TM.

I've been saying this for years here on FFL. In the 1970s, people's

TM seems to be stuck in the 1970s while other schools of meditation will
offer weekend courses much more accessible to people current

"yoga lite" and a mere shadow of what can be learned elsewhere. Back in
the 70s this was all too new to the general public and a giggling guru

Conservatives were right to worry.

The Pope’s visit has been an unmitigated boon for the left.
Conservative defenders of the Pope will undoubtedly note that he has
referred, albeit obliquely, to same-sex marriage and abortion; they
will point out that the Pope visited the Little Sisters of the Poor
and made veiled reference to religious freedom. They will suggest that
the media has done the Pope wrong by focusing on the Pope’s support
for leftist causes to the exclusion of his traditionally religious
principles.

They’re right, naturally. But the Pope is hardly a political neophyte,
unaware of the nature of the media. For years now, we’ve heard that
the Pope’s words have been taken out of context, misinterpreted, even
mistranslated. During his visit to the United States, the Pope spoke
in English, before a joint session of Congress, with the president
before the media, at the United Nations, and in New York City and
Philadelphia. Over and over, he had the cameras on him. And over and
over, he failed to take advantage of the situation to speak truth to
power, instead catering to the hard left again and again.

Here are seven ways in which the Pope insulted conservatives during
his visit:

*The Staged Illegal Immigrant Child Photo-Op. *On Wednesday
,
as the Popemobile moved down the National Mall, five-year-old Sophie
Cruz somehow eluded security and reached the Pope himself. The
security guards stopped young Sophie, but the Pope motioned her
forward. She then hugged the Pope, and handed the Pope a letter she
purportedly wrote, an eloquent plea to stay in the United States with
her two illegal immigrant parents. “I want to tell you that my heart
is sad,” Sophie told the media, having memorized her letter. “I would
like to ask you to speak with the president and the Congress in
legalizing my parents because every day I am scared that one day they
will take them away from me.” Her father stood next to her, wearing a
t-shirt that read “Papa Rescata DAPA!” – the Pope should rescue
President Obama’s executive amnesty.

The entire photo-op was a setup, naturally. Five-year-old children do
not memorize page-long letters or make it through security to the Pope
without help. As the /Daily Mail /(UK) reported
:

The stunt has been organized by immigration advocacy group Hermandad
Mexicana Transnacional, in Los Angeles. Alicia Flores, executive
director of La Hermandad, chose Sophie to approach the pope after a
young girl was able to approach the pope in Rome in a similar
incident, reported the *Washington*
* Post.
*She and her family were flown out to Washington as part of a group of
six children and 19 adults, with the hope of delivering their message
on immigration.

*Comparing Fighting Illegal Immigration to Human Rights Abuses Against
Native Americans.*The Pope dropped this egregious rhetorical dud in
the middle of his speech to Congress:

Tragically, the rights of those who were here long before us were not
always respected. For those peoples and their nations, from the heart
of American democracy, I wish to reaffirm my highest esteem and
appreciation. Those first contacts were often turbulent and violent,
but it is difficult to judge the past by the criteria of the present.
Nonetheless, when the stranger in our midst appeals to us, we must not
repeat the sins and the errors of the past. We must resolve now to
live as nobly and as justly as possible, as we educate new generations
not to turn their back on our “neighbors” and everything around us.
Building a nation calls us to recognize that we must constantly relate
to others, rejecting a mindset of hostility in order to adopt one of
reciprocal subsidiary, in a constant effort to do our best. I am
confident that we can do this.

In other words, the original immigrants mistreated Native

[FairfieldLife] California Drought a Government Conspiracy?

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2015/09/22/growing-number-believe-californias-drought-is-a-government-conspiracy/

BTW, talk of "chemtrails" has been around since the early 1970s when I
used to read about them in the LA Free Press. I sorta makes sense that
if climate scientists were concerned then they might have figured asking
the public if it would be okay to do some program would have met with
resistance. Thing is I've seen two planes at the same altitude within
minutes of each other. One had a regular "contrail" and the other had
the controversial "chemtrail". The first one dispersed about a mile
behind the plane when the second did not.

On bright sunny days in the SF Bay area you can see the remains of these
fake cirrus clouds. And I've seen reports people have done about the
low pressure areas that would usually come off the Pacific and bring
rain to California, stall and disperse. Some believe this is the work
of the former military run (now University of Alaska) HAARP facility.
The reason given is that Fukushima has dumped so much radiation into the
Pacific, which is why we are seeing more beached whales, that the rain
would have been radioactive and deadly.

BTW, I recall seeing a tape in SCI back in 1974 about a meditating
climate scientist. I don't quite remember his name.

Point is that economists will tell you the last time the US economy was

The problem with public housing is that the economy has gotten so

*The Problem With Public Housing*

The problem with public housing is
that the people who live in the house
did not earn the money to buy it. They
just reside there at the expense of
the taxpayers.
Because of this, the residents do not
have "pride of ownership".
They do not respect the property and
do not care for it as they would if it
were their own.
They neither appreciate the value of
the property nor understand the need
to maintain or respect it in any way.
Note the common theme of the following
photographs.

The desk in the White House that Obama
sees fit to put his feet on was built
from timbers of the HMS Resolute and
was a gift from Queen Victoria to
President Rutherford B. Hayes and is
considered a national treasure and

The White House belongs to the people
of America. Its treasures should NOT
be used by ANYONE for a foot rest!

These photos are proof that this man
has no class whatsoever and show an
innate disrespect for our White House.

SO, HERE'S A MESSAGE FROM THE PEOPLE
OF AMERICA:

Mr. Obama, you're not in a hut in

Not all disciplines emphasize practicing meditation twice a day. Some
just emphasize using it as needed. It's good to step out of the shadow
of TM and it's narrow definitions and find out what other paths do. I
know, they may want to throw you out of the dome for that but other
gurus will actually have you visit saints, temples, gurus and ashrams. I
think the restrictions were to keep the money flow tight. And of course
the guilt aspect of you won't be supporting world peace if you don't at
least meditate or fly twice a day. That's a variation on the old
"Master Game" called "sin."

Those could be useful adjustments, though you still have the basic
"problem" with TM, of transcending twice a day -- If TM can be
considered a technology, we are used to having our tech delivered with
no downside, except cost. TM represents the benefits of tech;
acceleration, expansion, ease, etc., but the integration of it all,
the work, must still get done, to ensure continued benefits - like
building our own TV, instead of buying one. Some people don't want to
do all the work. Also, because it is an intra-personal technology,
demonstrating the benefits can be tricky, at best.

After I would teach a student all the 7th chords in the C scale I would
have them to that in G. Then assigned them "The Autum Leaves" because
it pretty much goes through the cycle of 4ths. He does that in another
lesson. Another useful tune that is somewhat easy to play is "All the
Things You Are" because it does a cycle of 4ths thing but also does them
in different keys. "Satin Doll" is another good one for II V
progressions. "Girl from Ipanema" is not that hard to play and a good
chord drill. As for Beatles "In My Life" really lends itself to some
beautiful chord substitutions especially using 13th chords. Those can
provide just another level of emotion that song.

Trick for easy left hand accompaniment: play just the root and seventh
then root and third of the next chord. Dm7 G7 would be D and C then G
and B. See how the C resolves down to the B?

This whole abortion "debate" seems like such a set up. Why proclaim
that due to religious principles, abortion is murder, or that gay
marriage is sin, and then live in the USA? I am not suggesting such
believers should leave, though it seems like an awful lot of heartache
to go through, to insist on a religious truth so strenuously, that to
have the opposite practiced by some, becomes a constant thorn in the
believer's side. Who wants to live like that? It seems like a set up,
designed to cause the believers additional pain, and have them become
co-dependent on such ideas, and the organizations that publicize them.
Life is tough enough, imo.

And the issue is NOT that the Christians cannot live by their beliefs.
No one is insisting *they* get abortions or participate in gay
marriage. However, they and the radical pastors that preach to them
have determined that both of these issues are somehow unholy, and
their very practice is an abomination against God. This in no way
begins to validate the freedom of each of us to live our lives as we
see fit. Religious barriers, no matter how well intentioned, are
better practiced personally, vs. imposed on anyone else. I also see a
lot more commonality between the fundamentalists of any religion, be
they Christians or Muslims, than any side is willing to admit.

I do agree that there is a natural law in back of all of this, which
we are all personally held to, and responsible for. However, each of

the mother's, it's not the father's, it is the unique DNA of separate

that unalienable right to life is considered sacred as long as it is

never was it intended to to be denied on a basis of someone else's

*fetus* has that affect, so as not to leave any emotional scars for
the aborting mother. But science has projected the understanding of
the life of the fetus as a unique human being, complete within it's

Careful! You might get Walt Disney who is the subject of a two part

Anyway it's a great series and you can watch it on PBS.org if you don't

Re: [FairfieldLife] Is this the End of the GOP?

2015-09-11 Thread Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife]
Astrology is more of a weather report, more the propensity of events
that might happen. The field is not well understood but in our computer
age more research is pulling up recurring patterns as well as the
ability to track groups of people for research to see what effects being
born at different times of the year has as well as different times of
the day.

A lot of nay-saying about astrology comes from people criticizing
newspaper Sun sign horoscopes. Those aren't even related to sidereal
Jyotish readings unless you are looking at a column in New Delhi or
Bombay. And on the other hand my eyes get a good workout when I see
astrologers trying pin things down exactly missing the weather report
analogy. Many even think that dasha changes are black and white rather
than like light (after all it is the science of light) fading in and out.

I have never found a person's horoscope that didn't fit them unless they
had the wrong birth time. If you look at writings like the Saravali
you'll notice that if you shift the ascendant by a sign then the reading
no longer works. Most all of these astrology scriptures weren't
"cognized" but research of what was common over hundreds or thousands of
horoscopes. So the research actually has been done, a long, long time ago.

On 09/11/2015 09:23 AM, olliesed...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife] wrote:

Fascinating stuff, jr. Much of what you are correlating to astrology
appears to closely fit Trump's general character, and the influences
on him in the future. However, as far as breaking this down into how
specific real world events will play out for The Donald, wouldn't that
mean negating some of the people who are seeking to influence his
outcomes, positively and negatively, and their astrological charts?

In other words, if you were trying to predict astrologically, whether
or not Trump will be President, it seems you can't easily go further
than his character and his influences, regardless of what may be
happening with those around him. This may be why astrology though
quite precise in analysis, is not so good wrt specific predictions. Or
is there a compensation in the chart, covering these external social
and global elements?

He was indeed born as a Leo ascendant with Mars in the first house and

powerful since he is now running the main period of an exalted Rahu in
the 10th house. So, he is getting a lot of notoriety by proposing
drastic measures against undocumented immigrants (signified by Rahu)
by sending them back to their home country and by building a fence
along the border to exclude aliens (Rahu).

However, the subperiod of Mars, starting in October 31, 2015, shows
the weakness of his chart. Mars is placed in the 12th house of loss
in the navamsa chart. So, his apparent popularity will wane during
the subperiod.

Using Nadi astrology technique, the sublord of Rahu is Jupiter, which
is placed in the second house, and is the lord of the 5th and 8th
house of failure and misery. So, the facade of success is being
projected by Rahu, the planet of deceit and illusion. But, in
reality, the true indicator of his chart is Jupiter which shows the
failure of his campaign against the undocumented immigrants.

My point was that with Jobs gone Apple seems to be falling apart. Was
it his quirky wisdom that made it a success? The reason Petra loves the
Apple stuff is because they are designed like toys. That's not an
insult but a design principal Jobs insisted on: KISS. I can see it but
I can't because I don't own any Macs either than an ancient Blueberry I
fell owner too that is gathering dust in the garage.

I recently was looking at their app store and it hasn't changed much in
3 years. Google keeps revamping and updating theirs. No wonder Android
is leading 3 to 1 in sales. There IS one thing that Jobs didn't want
that might help: allow developers to develop iOS apps on other platforms
like Windows and Linux. One can to an extent but usually to ship you
still need a Mac.

Best thing I ever did was get Petra completely switched over to Apple
products. Android was never a good fit for her, and when US Cellular
finally decided to carry the iPhone, I got her one. Because it's the
same OS as her beloved iPad, she had no problems with it. On Android,
all she'd do was phone and text; on the iPhone, she checks her email,
looks at the weather, tracks the stock market, etc. Granted, all that
can be done on Android, but she could never figure it out. A few
months ago, I finally got her switched over from her crappy Vista
laptop to an iMac.

As for me, I love my MacBook and iPads, but I still prefer Android for
my phone and Windows for my desktop PC.

Apps are the future of TV? There have been TVs with apps on them for
several years now. But Apple aways takes a page from Goebbels to make
it look like they invented it. Before their was the iPod there were MP3

I don't think disassociating one's self from fellow countrymen or

mainly eastern or middle eastern, segregation of the sexes is the
norm. However, it is thought to be sexist in another culture. Some
can accept these differences and others can't or don't want to.
Recently, in the name of religious freedom, we've had issues of people
thinking they can obey the laws that they choose. The one in the news
the most lately, has been the woman in Kentucky that doesn't want to
issue marriage licenses to gay people because she thinks it violates
her religion. Many may agree, to a point, but most think she should
obey the law. She will eventually give in or take a different job.
However, the incidents we don't hear that much about are Muslims that
refuse to sell/ handle pork or alcohol and demand accommodation for
that in their jobs due to *freedom of religion*. Muslim taxi drivers
don't want to accept riders that either carry alcohol (unopened) or
may be leaving a bar intoxicated. The question is, how much of an
immigrant's former culture do we have to accept and at what
inconvenience to our own culture an! d lifestyle. These are the kinds
of conflicts that I'm referring to and they( differing issues) are
much more numerous and how much resentment does it cause on either
part? It's easy working these things out on an individual level but
when entire cultures are involved, mine vs theirs, friction begins to
build. I'm not against immigration, just think it should be done with
caution and selectively. An immigrant to any country should be able to
speak their own language, eat their own food, observe their own
customs in their own homes but when in Rome( public) And if that
is unacceptable, don't come.

I think some of your thinking is based a little in fear but some is
also practically based. Adopting certain traditions from other,
incoming cultures has been happening constantly. Think of the new
foods we eat now that were virtually unobtainable in North America
just a few decades ago, the ethnic foods i.e. sushi. Music, art,
theater have all benefited from the influx of new ideas, different
life experiences of those coming to live on foreign soil. Fashion,
dress habits - our lives are always being touched by a variety of
influences, especially now with the internet and vast reaches of the
media not to mention the ebb and flow of various ethnicities migrating
around the globe.

As far as taxi drivers, to take one example, I don't think they are
(no matter what their ethnic background) required to take a ride! that
they deem is either a threat or likely to result in problems and this
includes extremely inebriated passengers. I don't think any business
is required by law -airlines, restaurants public transit - to allow a

But would Trump and other Republican candidates make a public

There's a problem over there. Many of them are displaced due to the
war in Syria. The UN should step in to help them settle
safely--perhaps anywhere in Europe.

With the current foreign sentiment in the US, it's not likely any of
these migrants will be settled here.

Right, they have every right to be xenophobic. Look what's happening

Germany doesn't want this crap. Nobody wants to see anybody suffer but
they seem to bring it with them and spread it around. We should have
had a 40,000 strong force left in Iraq to maintain the fragile peace
that had been won but now has been lost for a campaign promise.

MD,

One sad thing about Hungary and the countries near there is that
they've become xenophobic because of their violent past with Muslims
living among them. Hence, we've seen cases of "ethnic cleansing" in
Serbia during the recent past.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Must see, if ye haven't yet! [1 Attachment]

2015-09-02 Thread Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife]
I think the US is a fallen country. As you know I look at a lot of
media particularly film and TV. I'm in the entertainment business.
What I see is a decline in the creativity of US media products. When a
country falls it is reflected in it's culture and our culture sucks
right now. That's why I watch more foreign produced films and TV shows.

But just look at timelines. When the Soviet Republic fell there was no
longer a boogeyman. Defense spending dropped and we had a balanced
budget in the 1990s. But the military industrial complex did not like
that. Look at the PNAC doctrine. Don't think the 9/11 was an "inside
job"? Think again. The MIC needed a "new Pearl Harbor." Is it a
coincidence that 9/11 happened to help that out? And BTW you don't
start a military campaign in a month as was done with Afghanistan.
Those take a couple years to set up. Iraq took two years to set up.
Now look at this defense spending chart which has been adjusted for
inflation and think about it.
