[Freevo-users] bluetooth send plugin

2009-07-16 Thread Robert WInder
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone already made an plugin to send files to a phone
with bluetooth. What I had in mind was select a file
(audio/video/image), press 'e' or the ENTER button on your remote and
select your trusted device or scan for new devices and select those (pin
exchange) and transfer..

It not any suggestions which plugin can be an example then I try to
endeavour into this one.

something to do with my trouble.

OK, I got it (and in some ways, it returns to freevo, sorry :-|).

Since long time, PVR card did work in a kind of generic PAL or generic
SECAM mode. For secam, this was a value of ff, witch this result :

  $ v4l2-ctl -S
  Video Standard = 0x00ff
  SECAM-B/D/G/H/K/K1/L/Lc

This doesn't work anymore (at least on my system !)
But if I select the 'French secam' (that is, secam-L) :
  $ v4l2-ctl -s secam-L
  Standard set to 0040
  $ v4l2-ctl -S
  Video Standard = 0x0040
  SECAM-L

Then the sound is back here (to be able to do that, I change the
standard in ferrvo.conf to a wrong value. So freevo complains, but the
  TV has sound !)

OK, I tried my chance on the ivtv-users list, and here is the answer of
  Hans Verkuil :

  Hi Pascal,

It's not a bug, it's the right behavior. I'm even a bit surprised that
this has worked in the past. Setting generic secam is a bad thing to do
as there is really no such thing. In practice you have SECAM-BG,
SECAM-DK and SECAM-L. And it is basically undefined what will happen if
  you just set SECAM.

More than likely the driver used a specific standard, such as SECAM-BG
 when SECAM was selected.

Has anyone noticed that the ivtv driver now loads the firmware, not on
the module loading but when it is first accessed? If this is the new
behaviour then it is a nice feature, as the drivers can be modprobed in
 a standard order.

 Duncan

Yeah I noticed this and it fails to load the firmware so now and then on
my pvr150 with ivtv 2.3.0, As an result I am ending up with a lot of
static recordings. Still investigating why this behaviour is
intermittent though before reporting it through the proper channels.
Could be a race condition when passing on the v4l2 commands with freevo.
Not sure yet.

Re: [Freevo-users] resolution while playing

2007-09-25 Thread Robert Winder
Hugo,

You might want to add a modeline in xorg.conf like

ModeLine 768x576 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630

in the Monitor section to see if the nvidia driver picks that up.

And as an aspect helper for xine you may add the line

# Set for 4:3 display
DisplaySize 300 225

for standard definitions. Again you put these line in the monitor section

 Hello all,

I've been poking around with freevo for the last days for the first time
and i have to say that i'm impressed with all the possibilities.

My first approach was to launch freevo from gdm and i already had
everything working in this setup. Then i saw the docs about freevo -fs,
and i switched for that kind of setup, which is much faster and cleaner
(no windowing and all). The problem is that suddenly my videos don't
play with the right resolution. The resolution used is bigger than the
 768x576.

I've managed to correct this behavior in mplayer with -screenh 576
-screenw 768 but since i use xine to play DVDs, i'm stuck on that part.

I can see in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log that the resolution used is 800x600,
although i only have Modes 768x576 in my xorg.conf. My guess is that
xinit doesn't really care about things on xorg.conf. And this clearly
strikes me as a X issue.

 (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode 800x600

I'd like to solve this in a general way, i.e. without having to force
resolutions on the players, if that's not possible. If someone knows how
can i do a similar thing to xine like i did with mplayer, that'll be
great too. At least for a temporary fix up.

I've tried parameters --geometry 768x576+0+0 in xine, but the result was
 the same.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

 Hugo Monteiro.

Yes, X11 is the most used, so makes most sense for drivers to support

Awesome. How is the PS3 at decoding a really awful combination of codecs?
Let's say, H.264 video with AAC audio. Does it have enough CPU power to
push that at 1080p? (Although I ask this knowing that most available HD
videos out there are 720, not 1080.)

Installed Gentoo on it the day before Yesterday, so still in the experimenting
stage. And it's my first time using framebuffer so much to learn there
especially when using fullscreen video's. For that the zoom option is needed and
found that SDL works best in these circumstances but doesn't cooperate that
well in conjunction with freevo. Albeit sws is required most of the time and it
stresses the hardware a lot. Don't have any 1920x1080p or 1080i content or h264
with aac content yet to play with, but maybe later.

Some people reported here that with YDL the weren't able to set freevo at 1080p
due
to an error in pygame but none are found in gentoo until know.

But i must admit there still a lot of development on the ps3(ppc64)so things
shall improve overtime, and not sure if you might call it production ready :-)

Have to reinstall gentoo again, because of user error (forgot to enlarge the
linuxpartition, defaults to 10 GB) and if I find the time I write something up
on the wiki when redoing the whole process.

[Freevo-users] freevo on playstation 3

2007-05-08 Thread Robert Winder
Hi,

Bought myself a ps3 last weekend as an replacement for my hush epia1000 with
freevo and to be able to play some games so now and then. The Epia was doing
great over the last few years but isn't capable to play hdtv content @ 1080p or
even 1080i. More and more content are in these formats nowadays...so i'ts time
to get ready for the future.

Did some reading up and with YellowDogLinux 5.0.1 Wifi is supported to get some
needed
steams over a share or inet.
http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pipermail/yellowdog-announce/2007-May/000155.html

The ps3 is able to play 1080 content and only with one cell processor in linux.
http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pipermail/yellowdog-general/2007-March/021298.html

Bleutooth remote seems to be supported in linux.
http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html

Accelerated video drivers is the only thing missing due to the hypervisor but
when running only freevo on it there is no need for 3D.

When configured it seems to be a nice all in one solution. Top notch games
with the PS3 shared with freevo on a linux partition acting as htpc for playing
the content the ps3 gameOS is not able to play. A perfect combination!!

So are there any others who have freevo already running on a PS3 and want to
share there experiences. Any caveats, things to watch out for ? Although I've
seen
some reports that 1080i and 1080p is functioning fine on only one cell processor
I am not so sure if that's really true. It would be great if anybody can give
some confirmation about this ?

Also not sure if it's possible to use the sixaxis ps3 controller to navigate
through the freevo gui. There was a freevo bluetooth plugin years ago IIRC. Have
to look into that a bit further.

TIA

Disable DEBUG in local_conf.py and record something again. With DEBUG
enabled there is probably some freevo recorserver ioctl which is not
supported in later ivtv drivers. With DEBUG=0 you can workaround

libviaXvMC.so.1 in /etc/X11/XvMCConfig to let the libviaXvMC be
detected.

And I had to build mplayer with

./configure --x-includes=/usr/lib --x-libraries=/usr/lib
Otherwise it fails

If needed you may need to recompile xine-lib too with
configure --x-includes=/usr/lib --x-libraries=/usr/lib.

Somehow the mplayer xine-lib configure didn't detect the libviaXvMC
wrapper. Even then normal divx is stuttering a bit, altough playing
mpeg2 is at 5 a 10% usage on a m9000.

Still investigating why divx doesn't play nice.

Great, thanks for the feedback.. I think I must have some system
issues then. Just noticed when trying /etc/init.d/autofs restart I
get a !! error when trying to shut down. Same with stop.

I vaguely recall that i had the same issues in the beginning, not sure

Trying from the command line (automount dirname /etc/autofs/auto.smbnet)
Returns nothing and when grepping for process I see nothing (ps aux |

 cat /etc/autofs/auto.master
 cat /etc/autofs/auto.smbnet

Mine are the same.. Tell me, have you created all the dirs? Which dirs
 are automagically made by autofs?

You don't have to create any dirs, autofs will do that for you.

Of course the USB HOTPLUG cmd can be used for mounting but i know
from personal experience that it mounted and umounted the usb device
 whithout prob in freevo 1.4

Sorry for the _very_ late answer. Does it work with rc4 and if not,
can you tell me which file need what changes?

Heh, thats indeed some time ago.. ;-) But the above still stands with
1.5.0-rc3 and i believe rc-4 as well because misc.py isn't changed.

Output on my 2.6.6. kernel from
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=ff Prot=01 Driver=usb-storage

While searching for mass storage it obviously doesn't find anything.
As far as i recall when searching for storage in /proc/bus/usb/devices
you cover most situations in 2.4 and 2.6 kernels.

Never figured out why auto-mounting didn't work though. Used entries
in fstab before last year without prob and it did mount the usb
storage device automagicly. With freevo 1.4 it did not. Switched to
autofs and automount and is better anyway especially if one have some
samba shares in the network. With autofs it worked without a prob.

Hi,

QUERYCAP_ST on the video device.

Driver: ivtvrÎàâÒÍó¼Ä
Card: Vanilla iTVC15 card qÎâ[À
Version: 266
Capabilities: 17236019
Enumerating supported Standards.
  0: 0x3000 NTSC

In v4l2.py QUERYCAP_ST is defined like this.

QUERYCAP_ST  = 16s32s32sLL16x
QUERYCAP_NO  = _IOR('V',  0, QUERYCAP_ST)

Not sure what to make of this mumbo jumbo ;-) Rob can you explain what
you are trying to do here with 16s32s32sLL16x ? Willing to help if you
got some pointers.

Bart, if you set DEBUG to 0 it doesn't try to print out the
QUERYCAP ioctl output and all should work as excpected.

I'm using one with Chris Kennedys IVTV patches
 http://kmos.org/~ckennedy/ivtv/ : ivtv-0.1.10-pre2-ck98p.tgz

  TV_REC_SIZE = (720, 576)

Hmm, I think TV_REC_SIZE may be ignored by the ivtv code.

I thaught so, was just to be sure

I don't think you're missing anything. Maybe the setCodec interface
hace changed slightly, the explicit set to '720x576' fails and it
defaults back to NTSC resolution? I should have a chance to take a
 closer look a bit later.

Thanks, maybe I will use another driver if I find one that works well
 with 2.6 kernel, 0.1.9 won't compile

And another question, is it possible with the video groups to use more
than one tuner, a searched the mailing list but don't really know how to
set it up. there are three tuners in the pc

 1) dvb-s haupage nexus
 2) pvr350
 3) bttv

didn't really try more than one at the moment because I'm already stuck
with the pvr350. (I got in wortking some months ago in my pc, now it is
in my brothers). the bttv card was working well alone, never used the
 dbv-s card with freevo.

ah, thought so. ;-)

I'll try emerge it again, tomorrow.. debugging unexplained oopses right
now and off course they are not freevo related ;-)

The ebuild should install everything with the python installer. This
uses 'python' from the path and it's directories. Please send

 a) qpkg -l freevo
 b) which python

a) qpkg not on my system
b) /usr/bin/python

But again i probably did something wrong and i am sure i'll find what

Re: [Freevo-users] Re: usb mass storage help please [attn Dischi] FIXED !!!

2004-04-30 Thread Robert Winder
Hi,

Duh, a search through /proc/bus/usb/devices revealed the culprit.

Found the problem in misc.py line 300

if line.lower().find('mass storage') != -1:

should be

if line.lower().find('storage') != -1:

Probably kernel 2.4 and 2.6 usb/mass storage module naming is
different. A find for 'storage' is enough to get it going for both
modules

my cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=ff Prot=01 Driver=usb-storage

Or changing back to usb_id as an identifier is maybe a better solution
if one has multiple usb-storage devices.

I give up.

It has something to do with the vfs implementation. But where it goes
wrong excactly i really can't tell. But what i said earlier

if line.lower().find('mass storage') != -1:

should be

if line.lower().find('storage') != -1:

in misc.py still stands. Device shows up in menu but doesn't get
mounted. Pretty useless plugin then without the mounting part ;-)
Of course the USB HOTPLUG cmd can be used for mounting but i know
from personal experience that it mounted and umounted the usb device
whithout prob in freevo 1.4

Re: [Freevo-users] usb mass storage help please

2004-04-18 Thread Robert Winder
Mick,

Oh sorry i totally misread your post .. you already got it working, heh.

With older version it wasn't needed to use USB_HOTPLUG= and mount the
device with a custom command, it already did it automatically. And i am
fairly sure dischi didn't intended to mount a device semi manually
with the USB_HOTPLUG option.

And not sure what happens if one uses multiple usb storage devices
without the use of the USB_ID.

But i could be wrong of course, again. ;-)

Feel free to offer me some advice on what YOUR doing.. As I'm fairly new to
USB storage and don't know what path to take..

What I really want is for the features that I thought were in usbstorage, to
'add' and 'remove' the given directory when the device is available.
Thinking about this, this would be good for network /smb mounts also.

Maybe I should start ot dig around there..

 A little further on..

I can see usb.py is seeing the device..
 usb.py: removed device 0402:5621
 usb.py: new device 0402:5621

Is anyone using the mass storage plugin? I guess for now a shortcut is to
use usb.py to mount the drives and just hardcode the mount dirs to the video
 items..

FYI: This is what my config looks like..
 plugin.activate('usb')
 USB_HOTPLUG = [ ('0402:5621', 'Mounting USB-1', 'mount /mnt/USB-1
 /mnt/USB-2') ]
 plugin.activate('usbstorage', type='video', args=('0402:5621',
 '/mnt/USB-1'))

reading usbstorage.py, it looks like '0402:5621' is the name given to the
menu item, but i left the USB device ID there just in case i'mmissing
 something..

Only issue with this is that they don't unmount when they are removed..
Maybe there's sometheing to add to the usb plugin: ie app to call when
device x is removed.. OK. Ive done this now. Send to freevo-develif anyone
 interested.

I'm strugling with the usb settings in 1.5pre1.

here are the relavent bits from my config..

 plugin.activate('usb')
 plugin.activate('usbstorage', type='video', args=('USB 1st', '/mnt/USB-1'))

 And fstab:
 /dev/sda1 /mnt/USB-1 vfatnoatime,users
 0 1

 It mounts fine with:
 mount -v /mnt/USB-1
 /dev/sda1 on /mnt/USB-1 type vfat (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,noatime)

However, i'm not sure what to look for in terms of logs to find out what
stage i'm getting to in freevo..

I have 1 40G USB HDD with 2 Parts each set to 20g. I would like to have
these both automount when plugged in.

Is this what the automount plugin is for? I'm loathing booting up the
laptop to ssh in and mount them manually ATM.

 Cheers,
 Mick

Hi,

The frequency list should look like this.

FREQUENCY_TABLE = {
 'NED1': 175250,
 'NED2': 196250,
 'NED3': 203250,
 'RTL4': 663250,
 'RTL5': 671250,
 'SBS6': 687250,
 'YORIN':703250,
 'VERONICA': 719250,
}

For you the value for NED2 must be

  'NED2': 184000, etc

(freq = 2944 ; 184000*16/1000)

Not sure if the decimal notation 184,00 does work, it seems not, so hope this helps.

  'default': '-cache 5000'

The problem here is that the plugin expects args to have so many entries,
the ivtv one is likely missing.

Well got the same results and not only with cvs. :) I didn't work very
well for me and made some own radio FXD files like this.

?xml version=1.0 ?
freevo
   music
titleLounge-Radio/title
logo source=testfiles/Music//logo
audio
mplayer_options/mplayer_options
urlhttp://62.67.195.6:8050/listen.pls/url
/audio
info
genreLOUNGE/genre
desc/desc
/info
   /music
/freevo

For live.com webradio additional library's are needed and one have to
enable it when configuring mplayer.

But I must say that the current links in webradio seems outdated. I have
found this great webradio resource on the web
http://www.mikesradioworld.com/ and already emailed the maintainer 3
weeks ago and asked if he can make those links available in a format
to convert it to xml for example. But sadly i haven't got any reply yet.

Re: [Freevo-users] Xine default player

2003-12-01 Thread Robert Winder
Well i believe dischi made some progress on this and xine can be used
for audio and video with cvs version.

But it doesn't work for me that well. If i remove video.mplayer and
activate video.xine xine is used but there is no LIRC event control. Is
this the correct way to enable xine? Also A/V sync is way off with
xine when used for video. I know there is a option for mplayer to work
around the audio delay from MMpython. Maybe we need this for xine as well.

xine for DVD is working great after installing all the freevo
dependencies because of the segfaulting with dvdinfo in the runtime.
That's something what imho needs to be fixed it's taking all the fun away :-)

Also checked out CVS and the blending of the images is very cool, nice
work. ;-) But still got some questions left about the new features in
cvs.

* Got xine-lib xine-ui cvs installed but the new enhance interlacing
stuff doesn't seem to work. Does i have to enable this somewhere ?
* When xine is configured as dvd player and i select DVD title list
mplayer is used and as i prefer xine i didn't expected this.
* and something i don't understand for quite a while is the configure
directory option. When used is this saved somewhere or is this for
future use ?
* Why doesn't recursive/random play work for images or must this be
done manually with playlists ?

Just some user experiences.

 subtitle on the fly.
I've seen that this is already possible for VCD, so it shouldn't be that much
of a problem adding a possibility for other filetypes.
By the way, why is it that xine is not the default player?

 Thanks!

Is working now, thanks.

 * Why doesn't recursive/random play work for images or must this be

It should work in current cvs -- maybe too good. If I read the code
correctly, it will always add all media. So it may happen that the
audio playlist conatins an image. I will fix that.

well not for me when i select play all/random/recursive there is no
'slideshow'. And this is with current cvs from a few ours ago.

Re: [Freevo-users] Having trouble getting games working.

2003-11-22 Thread Robert Winder
Well i run xmame like this

DIR_GAMES = [ ('MAME', '/media/games/roms',
('MAME', '/usr/bin/xmame.x11', '' ,
 '/media/games/mameshots', [ 'zip' ] )) ]

When freevo starts for the first time setup.py will look for mame
or snes and puts the location of the binary in freevo.conf. Not sure
if it will detect stella.sdl ? So you maybe have to add it manually in
freevo.conf. It that doesn't work try to _fake_ it and use
xmame = /usr/bin/xmame.x11 in freevo.conf. Not sure if this is gonna
work and can't verify cause my hard drive crashed. ;-) Or search and
hunt down the code where the game detecting is done modify it and send
in a patch.

When a game is detected in freevo.conf it will give you the games menu
item. And as an last resort if that doesn't work try removing the
freevo cache files in /var/cache/freevo. Had to this myself otherwise
freevo didn't cache the rom file list. Essentially this is something
where some improvement can be done. Caching is very helpful but it
sometimes break things.

Scenario as follows:

* user sets up freevo. - caching is done
* user decides to add games - caching has already taken place and freevo
doesn't bother anymore to generate a rom file list.

Firstly, where is the games menu supposed to be? Is it shown on the main
 menu with Movies and Music?

I think I figured out how to configure DIR_GAMES:

 DIR_GAMES = [ ('Atari 2600', '/data/videogame-roms/atari/',
  ('GENERIC',
 '/home/maccroz/downloads/stella/stella.sdl',
   '-fullscreen 1', '', [ 'bin' ])) ]

It does not flag any errors.

I have several ROMS in my atari folder, yet I don't see any games menu.

Is there anything else I need to do to get games to work such as activating
 a plugin?

 Thanks Again!

Note: Someone suggested I try '.bin' instead of 'bin'. That did not seem
 to work.

Re: [Freevo-users] Re: xine not playing DVD's,Mplayer instead?

1.3.2 support for xine...I guess it did, I've made no mods to any files and
it (freevo) is trying to launch xine when I select a DVD. I actually tried
using 1.3.4, but it doesn't execute properly---hangs, so I had to install
only other version I had downloaded which was 1.3.2. I don't have any
experience with CVS and making sense of the changelogs while not being a
 'developer' is no easy task.

Does xine work without freevo ?

And for freevo you need at least xine-ui 0.9.22 and grab latest xine-lib

From personal experiences i think you better want to try out 1.3.4.
remove the cache files before starting the new version in
/var/cache/freevo.

I'd like the dvd menu support that xine is supposed to use, but I'm getting
sick of 'fixing' each component that is necessary for freevo (already worked
alot to make mplayer work right).

Well aren't we all sometimes but no need to express that here,
devel-people are spending a lot of there spare time to make this working for you.
Not every specific hardware can be tested and from a software standpoint most
things have to be very recent.

I'm still facing a problem with my
capture card (BT878-based) where I'm only getting garbage in top inch or so
of picture and no real picture---that will I'm sure burn-up countless hours
researching and fixing whatever the problem is.

Again does this work without freevo.

I wish someone would answer my original question (I've posted it twice
now)...can I simply tell freevo to use mplayer instead of xine with respect
to DVD's? (Hope that doesn't sound ungrateful, but frustration is setting
 in--sorry)

plugin.activate('video.mplayer')
plugin.remove('video.xine')

for mplayer

plugin.activate('video.xine')

for xine. (default IIRC)

[Freevo-users] 1.3.4 some findings.

2003-08-03 Thread Robert Winder
Hi,

I don't want to scare people off because i only encountered some minor
things when installing and setting up freevo 1.3.4. It works great and
in fact playing a dvd with xine is now do-able on an M9000 epia. ;-)
Fantastic A/V sync and only 60% cpuload, with mplayer it was hitting
the ceiling. Looking forward to see the xine-pvr plugin in action
Aubin. Great work guys.

But..

When freevo is started from runlevel 3, hence without a user mmpython
crashes: Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. ;-) It did work with
previous releases.

Blurr theme got Arial_Bold.TTF hardcoded in the blurr.fxd file. And in
standard releases there is no Arial_Bold.TTF in skin/font anymore. It
reloads the alternate font VeraBd.ttf without prob. Just a cosmetic
thing.

Idlebar is not working for me. I suppose it only works in the blurr
theme but it doesn't load.

failed to load plugin idlebar

Another cosmetic thing is that in local_config.py default theme is
blue_round2 but that theme is renamed isn't it. ?

And is there any usage documentation about the icecast plugin, somewhere ?.
It's not documented in the plugin itself. It fails on me when i
activate it.

And the last one, manual recording via the webinterface adds a extra hour
on my system. 22u00 is given as start time but recording is
scheduled at 23u00. Recording via the TV-guide is working ok.

Heh. Got those alternate font loading error since runtime pre5-test3.
Loaded pre5-test 34 with arial font in skins/fonts dir. I can't
test with pre5-test5 because i am getting illegal instructions at freevo
startup. Probably due to the EPIA M with a C3 ezra core which can't
handle some optimized 686 code. Don't ask me why but i removed the
earlier test runtimes (5) from my system and the earlier runtimes
seems to be deleted on SF so i can't test this anymore. Loading current
cvs with runtime5-pre4 isn't a good idea because freevo loads with all
kinds of glibc errors due to the preload changes in runapp.

But I've got a working 1.3.2-pre4 copy to play around with, so don't
worry. Heh.
