If you do a soft upgrade, you won't lose your customization since it is stored in the user profile (should be the default, else you need to run OOo as root). Beware of the soft upgrade, it can lead to a not that stable system because old files can still cause troubles. I prefer having several partitions and make a clean install from scratch to have a brand new system. Partitions are useful to keep your data in a location completely separated from the OS part. In order to save the template I created, I had to create a new directory (named templates; under openoffice). When I tried to edit the paths to templates with this new name, I was given the choice between add or delete. I added the path to that new directory and marked it as default. Yet, in the window with the path setting it now reads: /home/thomas/.openoffice.org/3/user/template; home/thomas/openoffice/templates Since the first half of this nice, long path cannot be found anyway ... Should I maybe first choose delete that old default pathway? thank you. Re: [users] soffice.bin = highly dangerous??
Buying something in a shop doesn't mean that the product is well functionning! TrendMicro release some cheap applications IIRC, so it may be based on not that good code. And I think this is the case too. You should check the web about that product, there should be some benchmarks. Note that there are performant free anti-virus too. For the crappy OS, I rather agree too! Windows is sold in many shops, it's not really bug free and it can lead to additional costs (anti-virus, firewall, anti-spywares, ...). The underlying message was in fact: check other OSes like GNU/Linux (they don't need all these security applications). But it depends on your use of your computer perhaps. And: VirusBuster marks this event as highly dangerous. This did NOT happen with what I used before: OOo2.3. What is this all about? IS OO32 actually dangerous? What is this soffice.bin trying to do? In other words ... what am I supposed to do about it? Thank you. Thomas Thomas, there seem to be several different programmes which call themselves «VirusBuster», one a rogue anti-spyware programme ( http://preview.tinyurl.com/yg4k34 ), and the other a presumably legitimate AV-protection. If it's the latter you have, can't it be configured to recognise «soffice.bin», which I understand to be the OOo quick starter programme ?... 頑張って ! Henri Thank you Henri VirusBuster is a commercial product by TrendMicro and which I purchased in a respectable shop. It should be both legitimate and probably also well functioning. I rarely contribute to this list so you can hardly say that I'm turning anything in a GNU/Linux recruitment center. You see, one of the first time I reply for a non very specific issue and this is already degenerating. That's why I don't like mailing lists. Have seen too many trolls recently polluting my mail box with this list. Won't continue on that very thread. Well, just seen Henry's message. Yes, I know about the top/bottom posting. Try to reset your OOo user profile perhaps but don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process if you had 2.x installed before, configuration files from the former version might corrupt the new profile. See http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58403#p58403 You might have to reinstall the English dic extension, see section 4 of the tutorial. Re: [users] Having dictionary problems in OOo 3.0.?
Hi James, Sorry to come back that late for your issue. I think you've been hit by a bug in the Australian dictionary that messed up the language configuration of many users. As it has been corrected meanwhile, you have downloaded the right version the second time. Note that you don't have to restart your computer, just OOo and the quickstarter have to. For your custom word list, it should be the standard.dic file in the /wordbook folder, it can't be in the spell checking files. So just copying it from the old profile to the new one should do the trick. Just make sure that this custom dic is ticked in the language options, it wasn't on my system when I upgraded IIRC. Hagar Le 18.12.2008 08:31, James Elliott - WA Rural Computers a écrit : After mucking around for three days I have finally managed to install and English (Australia) dictionary. Here are the steps I followed which might be of some use to others who have lost their version 2.4, or earlier, dictionaries. Download the English (Australian) dictionary from: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/AustralianDictionary (thanks, Manfred, for the URL) 2. Save the dictionary file to a folder you can locate later. 3. Open OOo Writer (ver 3.0) 4. Click on: Tools Extension Manager ADD button 5. In the 'Open' dialogue box, navigate to the folder where you saved your dictionary file and double click on it (which will open it, and add it to the list in Extension Manager) 6. Restart your computer 7. Open OOo Writer 3.0 8. Click on: Tools Options Language Settings Writing Aids Edit, and select English (Australia) (make sure the Hunspell SpellChecker box is ticked) 9. Close back to Language Settings, and this time click on Languages 10. Configure Languages as below: -- User interface: Default -- Locale setting: English (Australia) -- Decimal separator key: tick 'same as locale setting' -- Default currency: English (Australian) -- Default languages for documents: English (Australia) (there should be a large tick before the words English (Australia) if the dictionary is properly installed) This worked for me and I hope it helps someone else. Thanks Thomas, Yes, I know about the Beta 1 / Beta 2. I was answering Guy's message. Perhaps the Beta 1 folder has been kept with the old files. BTW, I found my problem with a remaining English (South Africa) dictionary that had been kept by OOo (appeared with the ABC V tickmark) even if I had removed all the dictionary files and cleaned the linguistic.xcu file: there was a remaining linguistic.xcu file in /opt/ooo-dev3/share/uno_packages/cache/registry/com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office. That file is taken into account when running OOo and the user version of the language configuration is therefore wrong! Note that these blank pages do not appear in the normal editing view, but they are clearly visible in Page Preview. Program Version: Writer, in the OO Suite 2.4.0 (Italian) Used Pc's: Compaq Presario F500ea + a 5 year old Packard Bell desktop pc 1st problem: Spell and grammar check I've been experiencing heavy delays while using the spell checker. a.. When I start the spell check (by pressing F7, for example), it takes a LOT of time between one operation and another, even if I simply click Ignore in the spell check window. (sometimes more than 20 seconds per operation, even on the presario, which is quite new and fast with videogames) b.. While doing this, Writer seems to be going to crash: sometimes I get long waiting times with the sandclock cursor showing, some other times I try to click in the window, and the top bar reads Open Office (Busy) (Open Office (Non risponde), in italian). After stucking in this condition for several seconds, the program goes on with the check (at the same slow speed). a.. I've experienced similar delays also while using the real time spell check, the ones Which activates while you tipe. b.. If I right-click a red-underlined wrong word to get spell suggestions, the program stucks for about ten seconds, and then it shows the right-click menu with suggestions et cetera. a.. Such delays are really a pain the neck: I bypass them only exporting the documents in .doc format and then checking with the MS Word spell check. b.. I think these delays may be caused by the presence of ALL of the language supports in the installed program. Of course, I'm not sure, it could also be a problem with the check engine or anything else. 2nd problem: Layout copy tool a.. I'm also having problems with the layout copy tool (the blue brush just on the right of the paste icon). b.. Bulleted list: problems with the levels. If I copy a layout of bulleted list level 2 or higher onto a unlisted paragraph, i always get a level 1 list. c.. Sometimes it even DOESN'T apply the list layout as a whole. d.. The layout copy tool often deletes a part or the whole of the font layout (bold, italics...), although I press CTRL while pasting the layout 3rd problem: Commas a.. If I activate the automatic substitution of normal commas (' and ) with typographic commas, I logically get typographic commas in the text. That's perfect. b.. AFTER THAT, if I look for a phrase including commas (from the CTRL+F command), I cannot find any such expression (The expression is in the text, i'm sure because I actually typed it in) c.. Solution: I think this happens because the CTRL+F command does NOT recognise typographic commas, but just the normal ones, which are autosubstituted while typing in the text. These are the main problems I've encountered. I hope this notification will be useful... OpenOffice is a real huge project, and it'd be great to be part of it! To install the OpenOffice.org dictionaries, copy the *.dic and *.aff files from the zip file to the components/myspell directory of your Thunderbird installation. You can also change the _ in both filenames to -, for example rename es_ES.aff and es_ES.dic to es-ES.aff and es-ES.aff. This causes the spellcheck dialog to report the language and country and not just the filename. /quote - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
