They are the same thing. The X refers to "pair", the T refers to
"twisted". It is assumed you are talking about pair when you use just the T.

Sorry, I have that line but forgot to post it.
The only thing I can think of, is that Win98 gets confused as to where to
send the packets. It only has one default gateway (the one on the network
adapter for the local network). I am curious how the TCP/IP Stack knows to

told the local telcom will not do.

If you are using HyperTerm (comes with Windows) as many people do, you can
use the Capture command. Click Tools - Capture. Make a note of where it
will save the file. Do a show config or such on the router, then click
Tools - Capture - Stop Capture. This will save a file called CAPTURE.TXT.

I'm having a bit of trouble with extended access-lists for vty access.
Basically I'd like to setup an extended access list that only allows ssh
access from certain IPs, but after creating the list and applying it to the
VTY I lose access. But if I use a standard acl only allowing certain IPs it

We have a network comprised of a cat6500 as server and 3500 switches as

I'd be careful here. Wouldn't this only be the case (that you would route
once, switch many) if you configure MLS on the both the switch and router?
i.e. it's possible to have a switch trunk it's vlans to an external router,
but without MLS, your router would still process *all* packets crossing

Even without 'no service config', it shouldn't take 10 minutes to get a
router up. If you are consoled in, you will see the router attempted to
get a config automatically, but again, even with that, you should get a
command prompt you can control in less than 10 minutes. My 2 cents.

IMHO, uplink just means "connection". Nothing special. If we use the term
to mean anything, usually we use it in the context of data flow (i.e. we
would call the port on a closet switch that connects to the distribution

We had the same problem with a cat switch, I can't remember which model,
but what we did was use a standard monitor cable and cut in the ridge
with a pen knife. It was a Sunday at 11:00pm so we really had no option.
That worked and to my knowledge no problems were experienced.

to reduce or eliminate the fan noise? Are there

Just a related note. You can convert any number of the top queues in Custom
queueing over to Priority queues. (i.e. you could configure queues 1 - 8 as
priority queues, with the remainder being treated as custom queues only
after queues 1-8 have been serviced). So it's not surprising that there

You should be able to just use LLQ with your DSCP classification to give the
video priority. Is this video for videoconferencing or a streaming video?
If it's for streaming, then there's really not as much of a latency
requirement. If it's for videoconferencing, then you should use LLQ to give
