Well, in the Benz case the PO installed an amp, so I just put an RCA jack
switch inline between the radio and the amp.
Without an amp, the easiest options are cassette tape adapters or FM
transmitters. It's been a while since I've done the tape deck, but I've had

Exactly. It's a waste to put in premium UNLESS your manual tells you to put
it in. In modern cars it probably won't cause any damage to put in lower
octane than recommended but you probably won't get full performance.
