Have installed sound blaster 16pci sound card. Hardrake recognized and
listed 2 driver-for oss and alsa. Set for alsa and got the follwing
message when applying:Informational-artsmessage--error while
initializing sound driver:device: default can't be opened for
playback(no such device). Sound

I recently upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 community. Everything works pretty
good (I don't really see the point in upgrading though, at least not
yet). Anyway, sound only comes through the left speaker no matter what I
try.

I have just installed 9.2 but i have no sound. I have tried the mixers to no
avail, but if i mess with one or two of the sliders i can get a loud noise.
When a program is running i get a faint hiss that goes with the nature of

Looks like I've finally got them pretty well sussed out here now.
If a native Linux port does not have sound - run it with artsdsp. Example -

Have you looked in /etc/modules.conf to see if the relevant stuff for
the alsa driver is in there?
Without this the sound card won't work.
