I've honestly looked for help on this elsewhere. I added a dictionary applet
and newsticker applet to the taskbar, now I want them gone. Clicking, right
clicking, million-clicking doesn't give me any options.
Anybody recommend a good book on Mandrake or Linux in general?

I just got my cable modem running under 8.1. I set up a firewall (Tiny
firewall) via the Control Center. I'm not running a web or mail server
or anything. Is this adequate?
Also, what is good for virus scanning? I didn't find any virus scanner
on the download edition cds.

When I try to run ImageMagick, I see the hourglass working in the task
bar, but the program never comes up. When trying to run Tuxracer, my
monitor flickers and when the display reappears, half the display is
off-screen and it freezes. Any idea how to troubleshoot?

diskette set for you 2K Server CD directly from the diskette images on

If you have the choice, get the mdk rpm. However, Red

The bind package you installed was the source code.
You need to compile it. To compile it, go to the
directory where you download it to and type the
following (as root):
rpm --rebuild bind*src.rpm
That should compile the source code and if all goes
well it will create a binary file of bind

-F freshens. So, it should only update with files
that are newer and replace missing files.

If D: is the second partition on that drive it is
hda2. If it is the second hard drive, it should be
hdb1.

You can add this mounting to your /etc/fstab file.
This will cause Linux to mount windows upon booting.
You need to add the users permission to allow users
to mount/umount the drive. I don't remember the exact
syntax (unfortunately, I am in NT right now), but you
will see others in /etc/fstab
This is an NVidia driver error. I've never
experienced it, but I've read about others with it.
Try older drivers, read the troubleshooting section of
the README, and contact Nvidia.
