That message suggests you've downloaded a wrong version. If

No you do not need to uninstall 2.3.x, because 2.4.0 will automatically

The new version will replace any 2.x version, but not 1.x.

I'm having problems while installing OO.org 2.3 on a W2K Server (WTS)
in a network drive. Everytime when the installer wants to start copying
files, it aborts with error message Error 1327. Invalid drive P:\.
I've googled around and really found some sites which describe this
problem.
Has anyone successfully downloaded installed the .deb version of
OO_2.3 from the Openoffice.org download page?
If so, I'd appreciate a brief description of how you did it or a URL for
a forum post. (Responses to posts on Ubuntu / Kubuntu forums have
