My library is 30k tracks (on a NAS) and the bottleneck is I/O for sure, the SATA died and wiped out the disks, so I rebuilt it with Win7 booting from a USB drive. It has 8x (i7) CPU cores and 16Gb RAM so is strong enough. I can't change the OS due to other software, it works fine day to day but definitely chewing on the db rebuild when Trackstat does a massive update query after a full rescan. Hi Is there any reason why LMS is using such an old SQLite version, 3.7.7.1 which dates back to 2011. Looking through the SQLite release log there seem to be pretty impressive performance gains made over the years so just wondering why this hasn't been rolled into LMS. d6jg wrote: > That is correct. The default is that Smartfade is enabled. Tracks within > the same album are not subject to crossfade. It is all perfectly clear > in Settings / Player / Audio if you hover over the ! icons. Thanks I had managed hovering and had the settings set, but they didn't work as expected. I did some further testing, from what I can tell the logic is a bit strange. For example if you are playing a playlist of 3x tracks. Track 1 will fade into Track 2, however if you are playing Track 3 and then add a Track 4, it doesn't then fade into Track 4. So I'm guessing the logic builds a track fade "map" when a track is started. It doesn't just look at the playlist towards the end of the playing track to see whether it should fade into the next track. I guess there is some reason for that behaviour but hence the confusion. [slim] WiFi on the Radio & Touch and probably the whole range
Hi guys I recently purchased a Netgear EX6100 AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender to boost my WiFi to the end of the garden. Previously I had an Edimax (2.4GHz) but wanted to replace it with the Netgear to push up to AC speeds while keeping my legacy network devices connected. Laptop and tablet connected fine @ 2.4GHz & 5GHz. However I couldnt get any of the players to connect to anything, this is despite the Netgear extending both 2.4 & 5GHz WiFi so I thought it would cover all bases! I played around with as many settings as I could find but nothing made any difference, they saw the network (from what I can tell just 2.4GHz) but the Radio, Touch and Duet/Receiver just would not connect. MAC address was added to allow access. Does anybody else have any players connected to a Netgear EX6100 AC750? I then stopped MIP and added the mipcore.exe as an excluded process in MSE, mipcore file is found under; C:\Program Files (x86)\MusicIP\MusicIP Mixer Then restarted MIP and it shot through the files and analysed a track every 30secs, cant guarantee it will make any difference but something to try if you are stuck. www.spicefly.com - ** Spicefly SugarCube ** - A hassle free acoustic journey through your music library using MusicIP. Re: [slim] Replacement for MusicIP - Chromaprint / Picard? Compatible with SpiceFly?
Hi Its always the track selection piece that is missing, there are many track matching products (mainly aimed at tracking and charging) and some cloud solutions but none have the acoustic track matching technology working from your own local music. I have tried many times over the years to contact MusicIP asking about licensing their IP but they've never responded. My maths isn't strong enough to write my own analysis piece and I only got so far with reverse engineering the m3lib data file (parts of which seem to be encrypted?) and wasn't sure if it was legitimately covered under UK's Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1998 or not. Re: [slim] NEW Netgear ReadyNAS and Squeezebox
Unless you particularly want a ReadyNAS I would recommend looking at the Synology instead. I've used both and the ReadyNAS (NV+) was unreliable, its supposed to be resilient but if there was a network blip it would "disappear" off the network, you had to restart it, to awaken the network port again. If there was a disk problem such as a partially failing disk instead of just dropping the disk, it would fail to boot up with no error messages until you manually pulled one disk out at a time and found the one that was broken. Software updates were non-existent. The Synology has a far better graphical GUI, has very regular software updates and also runs LMS. I wouldnt buy a ReadyNAS again. cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98394 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Community SB: expansion infrastructure
Similar question, Whats the business case for moving away from Squeezeplay? In the short term 1yr it does the job and you would only need to plug gaps that are proprietary code. Longer term if there is enough interest its worth moving to something completely shiny. There is so much code in LMS it cant all be bad :) apart from the web interface stuck in the 1990s Bluetooth connectivity would be nicer than Infrared, devices could then be out of sight. [slim] Static Burst - Radio and Duet
Hi guys Has anybody else experienced a static burst at the end of a track/transition into a new track. I've noticed this on the Radio and also the Duet, its really scary if you are listening to some nice chilled music and suddenly for the last few seconds of the track it will go full volume and blast out static. I thought it was a corrupted mp3 track to start with but it will do it again on the next track transition. I tried rebooting the Radio and played the track again, same problem. Rebooted the LMS server and same problem. Only way to "fix" it, is to manually select a new track to play and then it seems ok, the original track will then also play ok again. Really strange, this is local and wifi connected devices (n class), they are not in a sync group. Smart Crossfade enabled, fade in /out over 10 secs. 100% volume lock on the Duet (not on the Radio) Will normally play on and off for weeks without issue. Its like there is a buffer fault in the code somewhere that only shows after a lot of play time. Any thoughts, sure its not doing the speakers any good at all, or my nerves! :) Cheers cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98169 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Without any movement on feature requests like; http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15067 (Requested in 2009!) development is stuck in the "classic" world. A few years back there were dozens of developers and now you can count the number of active developers on one hand. You see comments in the Dev forums that they have no interest in feature enhancements unless they have 1+ votes, so hence the few dev votes will never get anything implemented to make life easier and throw out new ideas, inspire new devs and so forth. It would be more visually helpful if it was a different colour, is this possible? Cheers -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Spicefly SugarCube - Taking Squeezebox and MusicIP to the next level. Re: [slim] MusicIp/SugarCube settings
Hi Brad, Few points in no particular order; 1) Style 114, Variety 3 Is what I use with a library of 12k but there is no right or wrong answer as it will vary to taste, what tracks you have etc 2) Install Trackstat and then use the Trackstat Integration settings on the SugarCube page, eg. Block Track Playcounts Greater Than X, Block Track if Played Recently. 3) SugarCube settings are discrete, so whatever changes you make anywhere else in MusicIP (including the offical MusicIP plugin) will have no impact. When you change the SugarCube settings they are dynamic and will be active from the next track change. 4) Use SugarCube directly (not via DynamicPlaylist) it will use a fuller compliment of algorithms. This will hopefully improve things for you. Technically if you want a random mix you should use the random mix plugin the idea with MusicIP is that its not random ;) Regards -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Spicefly SugarCube - Taking Squeezebox and MusicIP to the next level. (or vice versa) When you press the create text mix button in the MIP headless, look at the Port number in the URL string ie. http://localhost:1000x ??? Then make sure to use the 1000x everywhere in SC/Sugarcube etc. If its not that, then it is likely firewall settings or AV blocking the 1000x port. Additional tests you can do, is start the API in the MIP GUI settings and see if SugarCube starts working. Which would indicate whether that Port is blocked by something. I rolled back from 7.3 as I found it unstable and the new MIP patch just chewed my library up, you might want to drop back to 7.2.1 and just bite the bullet on long import times. ...or you could install SugarCube and get around having to do all the sync stuff! It provides MIP functionality of a different kind ;) New version due out shortly when I got a few spare hours to finish it =) (If you have a stack of foreign chars in your files then it will have issues) In respect to a normal MIP install though as long as MIP GUI is looking at your files at; e.g. c:\music or \\nas\music You have the MIP headless set up correctly and each time you update the MIP GUI you load up the MIP headless and get a reload cache button appear (which symbolises its working ok) and press that button (Check that SC path is same as above e.g. c:\music or \\nas\music) Then its just a case of SC refresh, new changes or full scan should be it! You dont mention the filetype, but I'm guessing you are talking about mp3 tags? Make sure that you *only* save id3v2.3 tags, id3v1 and id3v2.4 give really strange results, v2.4 tags seem to cause MIP not to be able to read the tags correctly and having both id3v1 and idv2.3 together in a mp3 file causes a heap of mess! You dont mention whether you are using MIP headless? If you are, then you need to reload the cache and then do a Squeezecentre full re-scan, as sometimes the just check for new/changed wont pick up changes. However > DIY rewiring (maybe a previous owner) can change that situation. > Generally though using a different socket in the same room of a UK > house is identical to using the same socket. While we are talking electrics The latest regs for elecs in the UK are pushing towards radial rather than ring circuits. The advantage of the ring main is that the load is reduced on the wire (ie. the chances of it going up in flames ;) as the power can go either way around the ring, to that meaty 5kw fan heater. You will normally have a number of radial circuits already, one for your hot water cyclinder, one to your cooker etc. So its not that much different and is cheaper for house builders companies. A spur takes its power from a ring main, so its affectively part of a ring main, though you shouldnt spur from a spur unless you fuse it correctly. Note builders being builders, if you have an extension added to your house, rather than rip up the floor to continue the ring main, they will look in the ceiling and drop a spur from your upstairs ring main, so one end of your room may indeed be on a different ring main. Finally dont forget the Part P "gravy train", that you need to be registered to be messing with some of your electrics anyway.. Though when you move house normally the most you will be asked to have done by the mortgage company is a visual check of the consumer unit if you dont have a certificate. Anyway regarding wireless v homeplug.. Re: [slim] Spent 3 hours with tech support last night...
Like it, this thread has turned into an IP masterclass ;) Why not just set address reservations in your DHCP setup, most new routers support this, just add the MAC address of the network card and each time it asks for an IP address the router will return the same IP address linked to the MAC. Therefore you cover both static and dynamic allocation requirements! Also set your reservation lease times to weeks and it will pretty much have the same affect. On another note, a dedicated server is always the way to go, behind a router with a hardware firewall built in, then you dont need a software firewall or antivirus crippling the machine into the floor. Most viri come via email or from web browsing therefore if you have a dedicated server its highly unlikely it will ever get affected. Re: [slim] Welcome pack for new Developers
Well I got some progress, the 3 lines appear but only for about 1 second. For some reason it wont pick up my block and duration code to hold the display. Any ideas? :s This is the code that does work; $client->showBriefly({ line => [$mytopline, $a],,}, { 'duration' => 15, 'block' => 0}); Expanded to use 3 lines, this doesnt work for more than 1 second; $client->showBriefly({ 'line' => [ $mytopline, $a, $mytopline ], 'duration' => 15, 'block' => 0, 'center' => [ $center1, $center2, $center3 ], 'overlay' => [ $overlay1, $overlay2, $overlay3 ], 'fonts' => { 'graphic-320x32' => 'threeline',} } ); -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Visit for an enhanced Interface for MusicIP and tips and tricks for integrating with Slimserver! cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47811 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I would like to see more v7 examples on how to display graphics and more than 2 lines of text. The tech info is very light on how to do this and just mentions it can be done but then doesnt really enlighten you how, well in simple speak anyway :s -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Visit for an enhanced Interface for MusicIP and tips and tricks for integrating with Slimserver! cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47811 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox connection through Homeplugs
Have you tried manually setting a static IP address on the sbox? Maybe the homeplug is mashing up the DHCP packets that your laptop can get around but the sbox can not. -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Visit for an enhanced Interface for MusicIP and tips and tricks for integrating with Slimserver! cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47548 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Using 2 wireless routers
rbl;287833 Wrote: > My ISP (which also has video on demand) obliges me to use their not very > good modified SpeedTouch wireless router. Hi rbl How much have you tried to use your own LinkSys router? I suspect the ISP one is only using some QoS for the on demand data. If you configured your own router, it would just mean that your internet thru put would be slower for everything else requiring the internet at the time you were pulling down on demand data as it would try to use the whole bandwidth, rather than what is given to it via QoS. You should be able to just note the login settings down and put them into your LinkSys box and away you go. In the UK, BT provide their own router box but you can just use your own router without problems. No more than setting the username/pwd to be the same as the original router. Re: [slim] Feature request: more sophisticated xfade
I voted for it, there is not enough eye candy or audio tricks from the Squeezebox, the current strange fade technique isnt high end enough. Obviously its personal preference, but I want the expensive box to woo people, otherwise I would use an ipod plugged into a hifi! Beyond the basics this is surely a unique selling point and why you would pay more money for it :s I might even be tempted to say its why it doesnt win against the Sonos solution because reviewers just look at the pretty stuff vs the green screen! -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Visit for an enhanced Interface for MusicIP and tips and tricks for integrating with Slimserver! cparker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19735 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
