This wasn't very well put. The bottom line is what you like -- how
something looks and, most important, how it sounds. What I was trying
to get across is that audio quality is far from being directly
correlated to cost.

I've found that -20db seems to work well most solid state amps. The
Nuforces, with their high input impedance, worked better at -10db.
-30db is fine, too, but then a goodly portion of the volume control is
silence. At least over here.

For critical listening, buy an SB3 + DAC or a Transporter. I'm partial
to the Lavry DAC but the Benchmark is very, very good, too. I doubt
most people could readily tell them apart. The Transporter is
terrific and is on the same level.
