You have to open IP protocols 50 and 51, and also udp port 500.

Yes,

You need to make sure that port 50, 51 and udp 500 are open in the two
ends-points

Does anyone know what are the ports to enable IPSEC traffic between two
points when I have configured access-lists on the interfaces?

I am getting that problem and I have found just few documents about it.
I know that I have to permit IP, UDP and TCP. Is there other protocols
to
permit?

Please any help will be appreciated.

CCIE written on resume? [7:48868]

2002-07-15 Thread G Z

I am persuing the written portion of the CCIE. I want to put this on my
resume when the test is passed but it is not a certification in itself.
There is no logical reason not to put it there as it shows additional
knowledge and that is what the resume is for. But awhile back I think this
topic was discussed but don't remember the particulars (I was not a CCNA at
the time even). It seems to be like saying that you don't have a degree but
have completed some college. Also where would this go on a resume? Any input
would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: apache [7:40616]

2002-04-06 Thread Ing. Milton Amador Z.

ok, if Apache is down when you run ciscowork200, then this is because
ciscowork200 use the same port 80, the should do is running the apache in
the port 8080 this change is in the file httpd.conf in the line port 80.

When you make this change then restart the apache server, and try.

Other option is runing the apache in other port 8080.

Have a nice day.

BSCN [7:39365]

2002-03-24 Thread G Z

Passed the test. A couple points. The test was somewhat difficult but was
basically memorization ,not analytical like computer science(programming).
It reminded me of history tests in the past. I used a boson test for 2 days
(test #1), it helped a little but was not worth the money. The boson format
was not very close to the actual test and it was much easier than the actual
test. I read the cisco press book. I have no network experience.
As what the test is worth, I'm afraid all the knowledge will be forgotten in
not too much time unless I can find a job in this area.
The format shouldn't matter, if you know the subject then you'll be ok.
Hopefully this will help someone and is of course my view only.

cisco switches (with MSFC) arp timer question [7:38635]

2002-03-18 Thread z z

Hi

One interesting scenario here. Two core switches (with
MSFC) running HSRP. Core 1 is the master for vlan 1,
and core 2 is the master for vlan 2. Understand MSFC
arp timer is 4 hours, but switch CAM timer is 300
seconds. So there will be one problem:

1. Client 1 (vlan 1) wants to talk to client 2
(vlan2). It will send one frame to client 2 using Core
1s mac address as the destination mac, because Core 1
is its gw.
2. Core 1 will check its routing table and forward the
packet to client 2. Meantime, it will change the
frames source mac address to its own mac and the des
mac to client 2s mac address.
3. Core 2 will just simply switch the frame to client
2, because core 1 has done the routing. To core 2, its
arp table and aft table wont contains client 1s mac
address so far, since core 1 has translated the
frames source mac address.
4. When client 2 wants to reply, it will send the
replying packets to core 2. Core 2 will arp for client
1s mac address. When client 1 reply this arp request,
core 2 will add its mac address to both its arp table
and aft table.
5. this is working fine so far.
6. after 300 seconds, core 2s aft table time out.
However its arp table is still valid, so it wont do
any more arp request. When client 2 wants to talk to
client 1, core 2 will do the routing correctly, but
then flood the frames to all the switch ports.

Is my theory correct?

RE: Sample Rate [7:36566]

2002-02-26 Thread G Z

The reason is for economics. The 300hz filter to 3300hz filter would carry
the voice fairly well so this is the least amount of bandwidth to do a
decent job of it. Not too much is lost because the voice is between
100 to 5000 hz. The hearing range is not considered as far as I know...

RE: VLSM Question [7:35827]

2002-02-18 Thread G Z

The 25 bit can be 0 or 1. It looks like the book chose 0. The CCNA books use
2^n - 2 for both hosts and subnets. But you also can use the
zero and one subnet so that would add 2. Then you would have 2^n for
subnets. So, 192.168.50.0 is one, and 192.168.50.128 is another subnet.
Using the first subnet: 192.168.50.0 network
  192.168.50.0001 first host
  192.168.50.0110 last host
  192.168.50. broadcast

I hope this helps and also that it's right. I just got my NA recently.

access-list 110 deny tcp host 208.206.76.44 any eq www
access-list 110 allow tcp any any eq www

int e0
ip policy route-map proxy-redirect

but when i write in the cisco sh route-map, cisco show me the follow

cisco#sh route-map
route-map proxy-redirect, permit, sequence 10
  Match clauses:
ip address (access-lists): 110
  Set clauses:
ip next-hop 208.206.76.44
Policy routing matches: 145918 packets, 12186643 bytes

Hi scott this is my situation.

I have Squid working answering requests on 3128 very good or in the 8080, or
80 anything port.

I wanted to force all users to use the Squid, via our Access Server Cisco
3640, which is
a basic setup, just taking stuff from the ethernet and throwing it at the
serial port, nothing fancy going on on the cisco:

for example.

Our squid: 200.30.50.5

On the squid I did:

http_port 80
icp_port 3130
httpd_accel virtual 80
httpd_accel_with_proxy on

On the cisco I did:

route-map proxy-redirect permit 10
match ip address 110
set ip next-hop 200.30.50.5

access-list 110 deny tcp host 200.30.50.5 any eq www
access-list 110 allow tcp any any eq www

int e0
ip policy route-map proxy-redirect

what you say about this.

two MSFCs running bridge group [7:27019]

2001-11-21 Thread z z

Hi Kent
Thanks for your good info on tcp window size.

Now got another question. Has anyone configured bridge
group on two MSFCs? We have two Cat6 installed, and
both of them have MSFC inside. All the vlan interfaces
are bridged for sna and netbios traffics.

Once we connect them together, the whole network will
get broadcast storm. I found it is because spanning
tree did not block the loop. After we configure
'bridge-group 1 path cost' on one of the MSFC, the
spanning tree come up and blocked the loops.

I thought 'bridge-group 1 path cost' is not necessary
in spanning tree confiuration.

Can anyone explain why this happened?

Thanks in advance

Hi
I used a sniffer to monitor my network traffic. I
found even if the tcp window size is very big (around

So who is deciding how frequent the ack will be sent?

I thought it should be decided by the TCP window size.
Please correct me.

2001-06-23 Thread Mark Z.

Hi Group,
I decided that I want to go for more Cisco training (self study for
certs). I haven't been to the site in a while and I just went back and was
amazed as to how many things on the cert side have changed. There are so many
new ones now. I already have my NP and DA and want to go onto one of the
Cisco
Qualified Specialist programs. I'm trying to decide between the security
track
or the internet solutions one. I am more interested in the Internet solutions
one because it seems to deal with business and e-commerce and I like that
type
of stuff. The only thing stopping me from going for that without a doubt is
that I don't see where there are any training materials on it yet. If there
aren't I'll just go ahead with the security track. Anybody know if there are
books out for the internet specialization or should I just go the security
route? Thanks all,

OT: Wise moves...? [7:4495]

2001-05-14 Thread Mark Z.

Hi Group,
Have a couple of questions for you. I am out of work right now
(contractor) and am having trouble finding work (market is horrible in my
eyes). I have my CCNP, CCDA. I was going to finish up my CCDP by taking the
CID but just stopped studying for it. Well, recently I got re-motivated and
decided I would get back to the books, even if I didn't find work. I'm not
sure I want to go for the CID though. With my concerns on finding work, I
have
had some thoughts on getting into voice specializations. From what I know
these are what's hot right now and maybe I should go for this instead of the
CCDP. I'm basically asking what your thoughts are on this decision. Also, I'm
wondering what books I should read up for the test. I will probably read 3
books for this because I want to more than just pass the test, I want to
understand it. I figured I would look for these 3 types of books:

1. A book that's easy to read (less tech talk, more Layman's)
2. A book that's very techy (like a Cisco-press one)
3. A book that talks about all aspects of voice.

If anybody has any ideas, please let me know. Also, let me know if you think
I'm going the right way. Thanks all,

Mark Z. ~ CCNP, CCDA

Frame Relay backup issue (resolved) [7:4067]

2001-05-10 Thread Mark Z.

Hey All,
Got the job finished for the site today. While working I broke it down.
There were 2 remote sites that kept having the problems of the neighbor
dropping and using the other PVC to route. I tried all the things I said last
night and nothing worked. I had a headache and was about to give up when I
noticed something. Their whole network is subnetted 255.255.255.252...so why,
on the only 2 sites that had problems, was their subnet 255.255.255.0? Hmmm,
somebody give it the good old fat-finger? ;) I changed the addresses over
and the neighbors stayed up past the usual 1:20 and they didn't drop again.
That also explained to me why the neighbor relationship would drop but the
frame pvc wouldn't (layer 2). Problem solved. Now I'm out of work again, lol,
thanks for all of your help guys, it's appreciated.

Mark Z.

Frame Relay backup issue (clearer understanding) (long) [7:3953]

2001-05-09 Thread Mark Z.

Hi Everyone,
I know i didnt give many specs on my previous question but thats because
today was my first time out at the site. Here's what's going on there and i
believe I have the answer now for tomorrow.

They have 2 routers in the core (A=primary, B=backup). They have 18 remote
sites, most of which are cisco and there are a few remote nu-bridges (never
heard of these). My concern is with the cisco's for now. This is how they
have it set up. Each site has a primary PVC going to core_A, and has a
"backup" PVC going to core_B. I learned that the secondary is actually not a
"backup" PVC, but it is always up, so if the primary fails then that one is
still good and info will be sent to core_B and then from that to the
destination of core_A. They are using EIGRP as the routing protocol. Now,
what the issue here is: Some of the cisco branches are using the "backup"
PVC initially, even though the primary PVC is not down, basically causing
unnecesary traffic in between the 2 cores and taking 2 hops instead of one
to core_A. I got some help tonight and was told that this was more than
likely a path selection issue and setting the metrics to make the primary
PVC the more feasable route should do the trick. Also, I was told that I
could basically set the bandwidth statements for the 2 PVC's and make the
primary's higher, therefor making it the most feasable route...

Also, when doing a "show ip eigrp neighbors" command on one of the
trouble branches, I noticed this: Where the uptime for the neighbor
connection is, the Backup neighbor connection (pvc) would say up for like 5
weeks, and the Primary neighbor connection (pvc) would keep bouncing every 3
minutes or so (not the frame pvc...it's always up, but the neighbor
connection bounces). I was told that i should check out the hello timers and
make sure that they are all alike throughout the eigrp network.

Sorry this one was so long guys, I just noticed that a couple of people
took interest. If anybody has anything to add please feel free. Themore i go
in there tomorrow with the better. I have this bad feeling that all of the
above will be set correctly on the devices and I'm gonna be sitting there
with my head in my ass wondering what's next ;) Have a good one all, and
thanks,

Mark Z. ~ CCNP, CCDA (slowly realizing what it feels like to be a paper
CCNP...but working to change that)

Frame Relay backup issue... [7:3686]

2001-05-08 Thread Mark Z.

Hi Guys,
Been a while since I've written to the list (guess that's kind of a good
thing). Fairly simple question here: Lets say there is a company with a FR
network with a hub/spoke topology. When data is sent from a site, alot of
times the backup link kicks up, even though the primary never went down. I
remember this type of scenario in my readings but forget what the
possibilities are. The simplest answer would be that they are oversubscribing
their access on the line and the backup's kicking up. Or the line is just
bad...but I doubt that. What are some possible scenarios that would cause
this
issue. I'm not asking for free answers to this but I would appreciate it if
someone could point me in the right direction in terms of reading up on this.
Thanks guys...good to be back.

Call your telco, they have all the information that was discussed (port

Re: DMZ

2001-03-28 Thread Z

Another rough answer: Ok, the DMZ deals with a 3 part firewall. Basically,
there is a LAN that hangs off of your firewall that contains your servers
like the e-comm. and mail. Then you have your internal LAN where your users
are. In order for your users to get out to the net they have to go through
the servers on your DMZ right? Well if somebody out on the net was watching
and waiting for you to come out, if they traced you and somehow got past the
external FW, they would only reach your servers and not make it into your
users LAN because to them the info originated from the servers. That's why
it's called the Demilitarized zone...somebody can give a more detailed
explanation...this was just Layman's terms...hope I helped.

Re: IBGP neighbors

2001-03-28 Thread Z

They do not always need to be fully meshed if you set up route reflectors.
The IBGP "speakers" will pass the information along to the other neighbors.
I almost see it as a DR in OSPF. It will pass all the information of routes
and neighbors along even if there is not a mesh. Sorry if this is not too
detailed, just a rookie in BGP...

getting an icmp response from rtr2. The devices in between me and rtr2 must
be up because I am able to get to rtr2. (some assumptions here but you get
this idea...think Venn diagrams.) The addition of these words may help...

Well, hmmm, if you want me to deduce it I believe the answer would be
"D" because in choosing that answer you give the question 3 possible
statements to choose from. Hmmm, not sure if I even follow myself =o)

Oh well, that's my answer...

FR + Poison Reverse...

2001-02-26 Thread Z

Hey Group,
I recently pondered something while at work and nobody could give me a
strait answer. Actually I feel a little embarrassed asking this due to me
being an NP and I feel like I should know this. Guess this type of thing
doesn't come up much around me. Question is: Can poison reverse (PR) be used
with OSPF? I know split horizon is used with it but I just cant see why/how
poison reverse would. My definition of PR is that it sets the link to the
max hop count and deems it unreachable, hence the term poison. I can't see
how this would work with OSPF because it doesn't use a hop count. Maybe I'm
confused about PR. Does it set the link to the highest metric, and not hop
count? Maybe I'm just used to hearing about PR in discussions of RIP that
I'm assuming it set the hop count to the highest and has nothing to do with
metric. Any clarity would help, thanks all...

Groupstudy Q&A Book (hmmmm)...

2001-02-24 Thread Z

Hi group,
Just had an interesting thought while reading one of Howard B's =
posts to the group. Wouldn't it be a great thing to get together with =
the managers of Groupstudy and start to build and create a publication =
called Groupstudy Q&A Book. This book would take all of the questions =
posted to the group (over a certain period) and then take like 5 of the =
best and most accurate responses that came to those questions, and get =
them all into a book. It would be like a new bible of things that aren't =
usually in books or something. I don't know, I just think this type of =
book, with Groupstudy's rep., would hit it big. Hell, I would buy =
it...just some thought's though guys. Have a good Saturday night...

CCNP Finally!!!

2001-02-13 Thread Z

Hi Group,
Just wanted to share my relief/joy on me passing my final test (CIT) =
for the CCNP today. My comments on the test are simple...hard. I found =
this to be the hardest of the 4, 2.0 tests. For the first time I =
realized what you all meant when you said that Cisco's tests are =
sometimes written poorly. I had trouble understanding what they were =
looking for in some of the questions and found myself having to read =
them aloud to myself to understand them (was the only one in the room). =
At the end I got scared because I thought I had taken the wrong test. =
When the report printed out instead of the usual 8 or so category =
scores, I only saw 4. The categories on the report said:=20

Connectionless Models
HDLC
IOS Backups
Troubleshooting

I have no clue why they thought that HDLC was a category on this test =
because I didn't see a single question even remotely dealing with it. =
=3Do) Oh well, looks like I'm on to the CID now so I can upgrade my =
CCDA. Question: I heard that there's a new CID out. Is it still in beta? =
Are the books out there for the CID up to date or old? Any suggestions? =
Thanks guys

the pieces of the puzzle together nicely before the test. Good luck on the
test and let us know how you do. =o)

Re: Has anyone purchase cables from this company before?

2001-02-05 Thread Frank Z

Nice price. 29.95 for V.35 btb! I did find one aspect
very amusing however. Here are the only two top level
categories that this company seems to have:

  Computers AND Lingerie

How could I not see the correlation between these
two before?

/sarcasm off (for my fellow EQ'ers out there)

Re: Anybody want to sell their CCIE boot camp labs?

2001-01-26 Thread Frank Z

This would violate the license you get when you
purchase the labs. Please simply buy them from
ccbootcamp.com. There has been a lot of time put into
the creation of these labs and I have not seen their
equal for CCIE lab prep. They are the best, so keep
support them directly for the creation of even more
great labs.

CVOICE FREE link for all

Due to the flood of emails that I get every time I
mention the free CVOICE course, I am unable to respond
to them individually, but as a broadcast message to
all. here is the link:

http://www.vstream.com/secure/login?PREFS=CISCOCP

You need to be a partner to register, but that
should not be a problem for most. I only ask that if
someone finds CATM or MCNS in this format, that they
please inform the group! Good luck to all.

Re: Passed Cisco MCNS Security Exam !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2000-12-18 Thread Frank Z

Charles,
I can relate to your position. Just because I have a
voice specialization, doesn't really imply by any
means that I know voice inside and out. It does
however give one an edge over the other guy who may
not have as many certs as you do, hence your company
might get the business. This is just simply just good
job security and gives the customer nice 'warm and
fuzzies' that you might know what you are doing.
The voice cert will force you to memorize all the
codecs (G711,G729,G729a,etc) and their capabilities,
so it is helpful to be able to speak intelligently
about them.
One last thing, the CCIE written wasn't really that
hard at all, especially since you have gone though the
same battery of tests that I have. I do have one word
of advice...KNOW your Token ring and be able to decode
them on the fly! I am aware others have beat this
point into the ground, but just thought I'd reinforce
it. Good Luck!

Eric,
Congrats. I was thinking of taking that one as I
would rather take 1 than the 4 exams I would have to
take in Jan 2001. I passed my voice cert with relative
ease using the Boson tests and having access to the

RE: password recovery on lightstream hyperswitch 100

2000-11-09 Thread Frank Z

That's actually for a LS1010. The password recovery
on a LS100 is unbeliveably complicated. You have to
enter a very cryptic string from a hidden menu on the
LS100. I had to do it on mine, so you'll need to call
TAC and open a case to get this resolved. There is no,
"set the config register to o/r 0x142" or the like. I
wrote it down on top of my LS100, but it's at the
office and I don't want to give you one charachter off
of that string and lock up your 100. So, just give TAC
a call (provided you have any valid contract on Cisco
equipment) and they will get it straightened out.

Hope this helps.

CCIE written passed

2000-10-23 Thread Frank Z

All,
Well after too much study, I have passed the
written. It really wasn't that hard at all. I can say
the best prep site was Certification zone's tests. I
had taken 4 of them previously, so had 400 study
questions to help. It is important to not only know
the answer to each of these questions, but also
understand the nature of the topic it is referring to.
This helped me more than anything and I found myself
really digging to understand a few unknown concepts to
me. Also, their specific topic study guides were very
helpful (especially TOKEN ring, you gotta know it).
Good luck to everyone in their testing.

Re: FXO and FXS

2000-08-02 Thread Frank Z

Jim,

In simple terms, the difference is the following:

FXS - you plug phones, fax machines into it. It
supplies ring voltage and dialtone

FXO - You plug into the telephone line going to your
CO. This is capable of seizing the line and placing
outgoing calls. You can also plug it into a PBX
(provided it has a FXS port on it), but it is better
to use an E&M card for that as you get more channels.

Hope this helps

Re: DTE or DCE? How to tell....

2000-08-02 Thread Frank Z

Frank,
The router can be either if you are speaking of a
standard 5in1 60 pin (I think) serial port (supports
five standards). The cables are coded (a few pins are
jumped together to set the ID), so that the router
know exactly what cable you are plugging in. If you
want to know what cable you have do a:

show controllers serial 1/0

Modify the port numbers as needed, but will show you
what is plugged in. I used to use this all the time
with the guys in the field as you typically CANNOT
believe a word they tell you. When they tell you that
have a RS232 DCE in there, and the router tells you
you have RS232 DTE, or nothing then they have the
wrong cable or in the latter case, they plugged it in
the wrong port or the wrong router. Hope this helps.

Clayton,
Yes. You need to set up the port as either a
spanned port , or I believe 'monitoring port' in the
XL. I do this in my home lab to sniff the traffic,
which I suspect you are want to do. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I agree with.
I think we should answers these questions just with a remark

person should look in the archive.
It is very important for everyone us to make sure that the quality

this excellent study groups remains and serves the interest for what

Firstly, all those seeking any Cisco certification will own various
study
guides, these pretty much have the answers to any cert related stuff
you
need to know.   Secondly, the Cisco website has the answers
to anything you

the fact
that people don't even bother to look back in the archives, you can

A good Engineering laugh.

2000-07-21 Thread Frank Z

All,
It's Friday, time for a simple engineering test (I
failed it). I hope you do better than I did on this
test.

Frank
NP/DP

Take this simple test::

1.How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
   +
The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in
the giraffe and close
the door. This question tests whether you tend to do
simple things in an
overly complicated way.

2.How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
Wrong Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the
elephant and close the refrigerator.
Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the
giraffe, put in the
elephant and close the door. This tests your ability
to think through
the repercussions of your actions.

3.The Lion King is hosting an animal conference.
All the animals
attend except one. Which animal does not
attend?
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
Correct Answer: The Elephant. The Elephant is in the
refrigerator.
 This tests your memory.
OK, even if you did not answer the first three
questions, correctly,
you still have one more chance to show your
abilities.

4.There is a river you must cross. But it is
inhabited by
   crocodiles.How do you manage it?
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
  +
Correct Answer: You swim across. All the Crocodiles
are attending the
Animal Meeting! This tests whether you learn quickly
from your mistakes.

According to Andersen Consulting Worldwide, around
90% of the Engineers
they tested got all questions wrong. But many
preschoolers got several
correct answers. Anderson Consulting says this
conclusively disproves
the theory that most Engineers have the brains of a
four year old.

Re: OSPF On Demand Circuit

2000-07-18 Thread Frank Z

Evan,
As long as you do not have a lot of traffic, try
debugging the dialer packets. This will show what is
'interesting' and triggering the dialer. You probably
have some sort of broadcast triggering it, but you'll
find out. Do not execute this command on anything that
has more than a few packets per second crossing the
router (ie - do it during non peak times), especially
on a production box.

debug dialer packets (if I remember correctly)

You can also do a 'show dialer' and find out the
reason it dialed. Hope this helps.

Re: PIX as VPN

2000-07-12 Thread Frank Z

Brian,
I had to work up a quote for a customer for this
very solution and I was also amazed at the price of
the PIX506. I'd suggest getting the 3DES upgrade for
minimal extra cost to maximize security. The 506 can
do 7mb/sec at 3DES, 10mb/sec at DES. This is more than
enough, unless you have a bunch of aDSL/cable users
and a T3. The Cisco Secure Client is dirt cheap (about
$2.50 per user) and is fairly easy to configure. I
implemented this on my home lab with a IOS
Firewall/IPSec image. You can download the VPN client
from Cisco, if you have the access. You'll also need a
mean to authenticate. I used a shareware
Radius/Tacacs+ server and it worked fine. You can also
use the NT database for authentication, but you might
need the Cisco Secure ACS for NT for that (really
expensive), also downloadable from Cisco if you have
the access. Good luck on your VPN.

Re: FW: Switching between console ports in home lab

Let's not forget the 2510/2512. I got my 2510 for
$790, which is much cheaper than a 2509. It is Token
ring, which scares some people, but big deal...it'll
work just the same.

RE: Token ring question

2000-06-25 Thread Frank Z

You might just have a bad MAU. Granted, the 8228 is
passive, so this may not be the case. Have you tried
to plug each of them in one at a time? If they both
fail, get another MAU (Known working). The chance that
you have 2 bad 2503s is slim, unless they came from
the same place. Hope this helps.

Re: What do I need for ATM

2000-06-25 Thread Frank Z

Glenn,
I have set up my CCIE ATM lab with the following so
far:

A LS100 w/ 8MMF ports. Works perfectly as an ATM
switch. Paid only $1000 for it, but the secret seems
to be out and prices have gone up.

 A WS-X5155 ATM LANE blade ($750) in my Cat5 w/ a Sup
1 - 5009. You don't really need a 5158, but it'll
work. Only difference is 5158 has (2) PHY ports, but
one is for redundancy and you cannot use both at the
same time. Who needs redundancy in the lab? The 5155
is EOL, so keep that in mind, but is still supported
with software releases.

I need to get the following:
An ATM card for my 3600, which is currently going
used at $2500, when you can find one. List is $6000
(Argh!!)

Another possibility would be to get a 7000, of which
there are a LOT of them on EBAY recently. The ATM
interface processors are much cheaper than the 3600
modules and the whole package might be cheaper than a
single module for a 3600. Just remember, the 7000 is
really big and you might have to run a new 110v line
to your lab, so you don't trip the breaker ;)

Hope this helps and good luck on your CCIE.

CVOICE AND CID (CCDP)

2000-06-19 Thread Frank Z

Yes,
If you are a Cisco reseller you can logon to the
Vstream site and get the ENTIRE voice class for free!
You of course have to be a reseller to get this, but
it only requires (3) certs to do it. Here's the link:

http://www.vstream.com/login/CISCOCP/CISCOCP_login.vhtm?PREFS=CISCOCP

You need a CCNA,CCDA and a sales expert to become a
reseller (you do not need a revenue commitment!). I
hope this helps and by the way, there is other
training that I have com across, like the FREE CID
course, which needs to be augmented by the book and
the Boson tests. You'll ace it then (hell, you only
need a 65% to pass the damn thing, not really a
monumental task). Here's the link:

http://www.vstream.com/login/CISCOCID/CISCOCID_login.vhtm

My 2 cents for the group. I hope this assists you in
your certification efforts.

PS- You could also take the route of buying the Voice
equipment, assuming you have a few extra 2600/3600's
for the voice modules. I just spent a couple grand on
them (NM-1V, NM-2V, 2 FXS, 1 FXO) and am waiting for
it to come from Cisco. You might see it on the CCIE
lab, so it is a worthy investment, besides, one can
just sell the modules once you have a CCIE number.

Re: Questions from a new CCNA (repost)

2000-06-19 Thread M Z

2 questions are in this listing

1) does anyone have a paper or link that gives a meaningful explanation of
the processes that are running in a router when you type the sho processes
command

2)what is the most ideal way to pinpoint a process that is eating up CPU
time, and make sure it has more cpu time that what is usually allocated to
it

Thanks in advance.

Frame relay question

2000-06-19 Thread M Z

Usually if a router is at a customers site, it is set as a DTE, the carrier
is set as a DCE (provide clock), when do you want to set the router as an
NNI?

Thanks

RE: CCDP?

2000-06-15 Thread Frank Z

Mark,
I just took the CID today and can say it was fairly
easy. Just be really sure you know Stratacom and SNA!!
These have been pointed out before by Priscillia
Oppenhiemer (please excuse me if I mispelled it), who
had something to do with the original material (I
think), so as to not violate the NDA. Anyway, DCN is
annoying and vague, just be really sure you know the
online free DCN material (official Cisco stuff!) and
you'll have no problem.

re: OSPF !!!

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

You are the OSPF king, charles :)
Load balancing with ospf happens automatically, assuming the two interfaces
have the same cost.
The fact that they are load balancing per packet or per destination depends
on the switching mechanism on the router.

Last note, if you want a router not to be a DR , set the priority to zero, I
believe the default is one, the decision if both routers have the same
priority will go the router with the highest IP (router ID) address, this is
another good reason to use loopbacks with OSPF.

Re: PIX labs?

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

I would suggest the following scenarios.

1) Configuring DMZ's and securing the local network (3 interfaces)
2) Configuring more that 3 interfaces and make sure specific traffic can
pass between interfaces on deferent priority levels (that can get tricky)
3) Terminating VPN sessions to the PIX from a) a router b) another PIX c) a
VPN client.

I guess the way you implement all that would again depend on your
imagination.

Re: Frame Relay switch

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

Thanks Atef and Nigel for your responses,
the two other questions I have are
1)how do you make the switch auto-sense the LMI type, or is that a function
of the router?
2)in the command frame-relay route 100 interface serial 2 200
are the 100 , 200 refer to the DLCI's and that is the command I need to map
a PVC between DLCI 100 and DLCI 200.

Thanks so much.

Re: CCIE

2000-06-13 Thread Frank Z

I do not remember where I heard this, but 1024 was
chosen because it is the same number as a kilohertz.
The lab will,"kill ya and it hurts". Hence Kilohertz.
This first CCIE was 1025, if I remeber correctly.

Hi everyone.
Has anyone got any update about BSCN ?
I have searched Amazon and Cisco Press and haven't found anything.
Is it really true that Cisco is not going to publish the objectives
of the exam ?
A request to anyone to who has already has taken the exam  "Please
outline the topic of the exam". I guess that by doing this no one will
break the non disclosure agreement.
Can anyone also recommend some books for this exam ?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Re: ATM Info

2000-05-27 Thread Frank Z

Rik,
I think I can help you a bit here as I have a
Cat5000 w/ a WS-X5155 and a Sup I (5009 copper)
connected to an 8 port MMF LS100 in my lab, so it does
work just fine. If you have not purchased them yet,
make sure you get newer Sup 1's (there is a
difference) as the older boards use a custom (ie -high
bucks) Cisco SIMM. Or just make sure whatever Sup 1
you purchase has 20 meg on it (so you can run the
latest 4.5 code). You cannot run 5.x code on a sup 1,
so keep that in mind. Lastly, the dual PHY port ATM
LANE blade (like a WS-X5158) can't use both ports at
the same time (one is for redundancy), so save a few
$$$ and get a single port one. Lastly, you will need
an ATM router to do inter ELAN routing, and this will
get expensive quickly. Ah, the things we do for a
CCIE.
It is Saturday night and I might have missed
something, but I am sure someone will correct me if I
did.

Re: netbios and other call placing traffic

2000-05-17 Thread Frank Z

Big B,
While you may have already tried this, I thought I
would make the suggestion. It is possible that you
have broadcasts triggering the link, so you might be
able to use the following to stop your problem:

access-list 101 deny ip any host 255.255.255.255

This, of course, will deny all broadcasts from
triggering the link (IP). You could use the following
command with great caution to find out what is
'interesting' to your DDR connection:

debug dialer events
debug dialer packets

Also, what routing protocol are you using? EIGRP?
The multicasts it sends off will trigger a link,
unless explicitly prohibited. Simply use something
like the following:

access-list 101 deny eigrp any any

While you might have already tried this, just
thought I might be of some help as DDR can be a pain
to silence sometimes.
