Hello there;

In the latest version of windows live mail,
If you wish to move a message to a particular folder,
Highlight the message,
Press applications key,
Up arrow and enter on either,
Copy to folder or, move to folder.
Now, you can arrow to the name of folder,
And press enter.
Note, if you choose copy,
Then you will have essentially 2 copies one in the oridginal folder, and a
copy in the chosen folder,
Move to folder however, will move the message.

Hope this helps.

In Windows Live Mail, let's say you have a message from Joe in your Inbox.
Open the message. Press Alt which takes you into the ribbons assuming you
have them on. I then arrow down 3 times. Delete, R something I forget I
think, and Actions. Press spacebar on actions. The top choice inside that
menu is Move. Press spacebar. Now, use Tab to move around in that area and
you'll see your list of folders, new folder, OK, Cancel, and I think maybe
one more control. Arrow through your Folders. Notice one thing that is
different from other previous mail. If you have two e-mail addresses, you
will have folders of Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk, and Delete for each one.
Down under this is Storage Folders where you could make as many folders as
you want. And, they are still labeled with the same Names as your mail
folders starting with Drafts. At first, this was just a little confusing but
once I realized what they were doing, it works great. And, I could move a
message in my sleep I've done it so much. So, quite doable. I hope this
helps.

[JAWS-Users] jaws history information

2012-03-15 Thread Lenny McHugh
I did find out and confirmed my question of when did I get jaws.
Jaws for dos was released 1987. Jaws for windows was released 1993/94 in
Bata.those serial numbers started at 1,000. The public release was in 1995 and
those serial numbers started at 1200. I was within the first 50 individuals to
purchase jaws for windows. I just helped install and set up the jaws for
windows at our local library. That serial is in the 465,000 range.
I was talking to one of the original deck support guys. He is quite happy
retired from tech support. He did it for over 30 years.
Thanks to all who responded.

First please email me off list at lmch...@verizon.net to cut list traffic down.
I am trying to determine when I first purchased jfw. I started using talking
computers in 1980 it was ITS information through speech. Then total talk and
upgraded again to total talk pc. I think around 1985 or 86 I purchased jaws for
dos. I think in the early 1990s I acquired jaws for windows. Freedom Scientific
has records back to 1995 and I know I had it prior to that. In 1997 someone
that I know has a serial number in the 10,000s and mine is less than 1250. They
started issuing serial numbers at 1,000.
Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] in the market for a new laptop

2012-01-14 Thread Lenny McHugh
it is the way of the future however, I had to stay with 32 bit because of
some driver issues. Not too long ago I had some problems and went back to
the shop that built my system. I was going to have 64 installed and was
talked out of it because of the driver issues. My wife has a
dyesublimitation printer that there are no 64 bit drivers. Since jaws works
with both 64 and 32 bit this made it easy for me. I can easily go the 64
bit way in the future. the ms authorization is for both operating systems.
The shop would just burn me a 64 bit install and there would be no
additional charge. They only recommend 64 if you are purchasing all new
hardware, printers etc. or using more than 3 gb of memory for some heavy
games.

Hi Kathy.

I certainly would not go with 64bit. The amount of complaints we've had
about it! a friend of mine runs a PC repair business and people find it a
lot more convenient to downgrade to 32bit. the reality is that if your pc
only has 4GB or less of memory, 32bit windows is fine. if it has 4GB or
more, then they recommend 64bit but in reality 32bit can work on windows
with up to 16GB of ram using PAE or physical address extention technology.
this probably isn't the place to discuss 32bit verses 64bit, but i've a
feeling that you're paying extra for jaws 64bit, i haven't checked out the
latest prices but i do know that there are separate versions of jaws for
32bit systems and 64bit systems.

I hope that helps, feel free to write me off list if you need more
clarification at:

I did use end it all on my xp machine. You could uncheck the processes that
you did not want terminated. I did a quick search and win 7 is not listed. I
did find this information:

To kill any particular process use the Taskkill command. For example to kill
Firefox, run the command as:

Taskkill /IM firefox.exe /F

where /F is used to kill the process forcefully. You can also kill any
particular process by using it’s ID, the tasklist command displays the
process ID’s as well (you can see the PID column in the screenshot). To kill
any process using it’s ID, run the command as:

Taskkill /PID 2704 /F

Now to kill multiple processes simultaneously, run the above command with
the PID’s of all the processes followed by spaces

Taskkill /PID 2704 5472 4344 /F

It occurs to me that a program that will automatically shutdown another

nice. Does anybody know of such an animal?

This would be for example when you want something to run but for only a

Hello Lenny,

There might be text boxes in your documents. You can use CTRL+Shift+O to
list your objects. JAWS should tell you if the objects are text boxes.
Press enter key on one of them. I have found that JAWS might say that the
object is selected at that point when it isn't really selected. When you
select the object, you get an additional tab on the ribbon. You can select
the object by moving the cursor on to where you hear JAWS say slash and
using shift+right arrow key. When the object is selected try putting it in
the text layer by using ALT+Shift+C. If you hear that the object cannot be
put in the text layer, then make sure the object is selected by moving on to
it with the cursor and using shift+right arrow key. Press Shift+f10 or the
application key. Use down arrow to the edit text choice and press enter
key. After doing so, read the current line and use up or down arrow keys to
try to read the text in the text boxes.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] jaws 13 and vista pro

2011-10-26 Thread Lenny McHugh
I received an interesting call from our local library. They have a request to
make one of their computers to have screen reading software. I never used
vista. Are there any issues with 13 pro and vista pro? I guess that there is
not too much difference between vista home and pro as far as the layouts. I
just might go to my daughter’s home and install jaws 13 on her home vista
machine to look around. I am pretty sure that the library will be calling me
for some help. They were looking around for other cheaper or free products. I
kind of discouraged that. The patron that made the request I believe also uses
jaws. On a regular basis she takes a bus to Pottsville and would like some
internet access and also to be able to access their card catalog. That is
something that would have to be checked out. Not sure how speech friendly their
software is. I did suggest that they download the demo and put it on a staff
member computer to check it out.

2011-04-21 Thread Lenny McHugh
This makes no sense. With the new jaws 1158 and ie9 installed I still have the
problem with jaws automatically reading a wlm message. I am guessing that it is
something in ie9. With the same configuration but with ie8 when I delete an
opened message the next message is opened and automatically read. When I
install ie9 this is no longer the case. The first message that I open is
automatically read. When I delete it the next message is opened but not read.
Using any key on the speech pad the message is then read in total. I am using
win 7 home 32 bit. It does not change if I have message headers on or off.

Hello JAWS List,

We have been working for months on an update for JAWS 12 which

includes

a great deal of work in the area of IE 9, Excel, Java 64 bit, Visual
Studio, Thunderbird, and much more. At this time, we are in the

process

of completing the final testing with the new MAGic Low Vision

Keyboard

that is scheduled to start shipping in the next week or two along

with

the MAGic 11 update. Once the testing is complete, the Automatic

Updates

feature of JAWS will be turned on for this update and all JAWS 12
English users will get this 1158 build.

In the meantime, we wanted to take this opportunity for users to get
this build early if they would like so we have posted it as the

Download

version on our web site. I have included the details of the changes

in

the release below. I have provided the download links at the bottom

of

this message.

Regards,

Eric Damery

Freedom Scientific, Inc.

JAWS 12 Features and Enhancements as of April 2011

JAWS Support for New MAGic Large Print Keyboard

The MAGic Large Print Keyboard is a new accessory that contains extra
keys assigned to the most commonly used MAGic functions. Its large

and

contrasting letters also make it easier to type and use MAGic hot

keys.

Using the MAGic Keyboard Manager, you can assign different MAGic
functions to these keys. For example, if you do not use dual

monitors,

you can change the Jump to Next Display key to any other feature item
such as mute system sounds.

The keyboard also allows the assignment of shortcuts to keys. With a
shortcut, the keys can launch applications, open files on your

computer

or in a network folder, or open a favorite Web site. For example, you
can assign the M1 key (available along the top of the MAGic Large

Print

Keyboard) to open a document that you need to regularly access.

Another benefit is that you can use the keyboard with JAWS screen
reading software. Similar to MAGic, you can assign hot keys to JAWS
functions while also using the keyboard with or without running

MAGic.

Note that when running the two applications together, the JAWS
functionality will override the MAGic functionality.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Support

JAWS 12 has been further enhanced for Internet Explorer 9 which is
available for users of Windows 7 and Vista. These enhancements

include

Braille and the JAWS cursor being able to properly navigate and read
pages. Please note that with the release of Internet Explorer 9,
Microsoft has made significant changes which prevent commercial

screen

magnification products from smoothing fonts as we had previously. If

I just wanted to remove one contact in a group in wlm. When in the contacts I
am able to see the groups and the contacts for each group. I arrowed down the
list for the group I wanted to modify and depressed the delete key. It totally
removed that contact from my main contact list. I only wanted to remove it from
the group. Where do you go to modify a group?
Using jaws 12, windows 7 home and latest wlm.

[JAWS-Users] i e 9 jaws 12 and wlm

2011-03-23 Thread Lenny McHugh
This is interesting. Some how the install of I e9 makes jaws not automatically
read opened wlm messages. As soon as I installed I e9 when I open an email
maybe the first one or two will automatically read. From then on when I open a
message I must use any of the reading keys to start the reading of the mail. To
prove that it is I e9 I just removed it and now jaws reads the wlm messages.
Any thoughts?

[JAWS-Users] word 2002

2011-03-23 Thread Lenny McHugh
I have office 2003 installed and has word 2002. I seldom write letters. Today
was the first since I have this win 7 home machine. Using the latest jaws 12
the tab no longer announces position. It use to announce the distance for each
tab. Now only one or two positions are announced. I wanted to get to 4.25
inches. Only one position 2 inches were read. Is there any way to fix this?

2011-03-19 Thread Lenny McHugh
This is quite interesting. Since I installed ie9 when opening an email in wlm
they are not always read. Maybe about 40% of the emails start reading now. I am
using the latest jaws 12 and win 7 home. Is there any fix for this?

That could be one of 3 things.
1. That function is not in the scripts for WLM .
2. The function is broke if there.
3. That function is there for outlook mail.

worked correctly so why is this please?

Some time back I contacted fs because the script would not work. I was informed
that it will not work with windows 7 and windows live mail. Actually the script
is commented out and this is the comment:
;//Corrupts MSAA and causes false FormsMode
;//If you run this, you will have to repair or reinstall JAWS in order to use
Windows Live Mail again.
;//This is because Windows Live will mess up MSAA on SetFocus to the body

[JAWS-Users] find a message in windows live mail

2011-03-08 Thread Lenny McHugh
I have several hundred saved mails in several folders in windows live mail.
With outlook express it was easy to use a find command to look in the mail
folders only. Is there a simple way to accomplish this with windows 7, windows

To get into Contacts in Windows Live Mail, use control and the number 3.
This will take you into the list. Find the one you want to delete and press
delete. Confirm with ok and you will think it isn't done because you will
think you are supposed to do ok again. Do not do this. Choose Cancel to end
the operation. It is set up in such a way that once you begin, you could
continue and not be hearing what you were deleting. To return to your list

Unless I am doing something wrong, neither f6 nor alt-d does what I
expect. Firstly, if I turn on keyboard help, neither f6 nor alt-d claim
to do anything. Secondly, when in internet explorer if I go to a page,
then hit alt-d or f6, it says, address edit. I do not see a URL at
that point. If I then hit control-c it says nothing is selected. If I
go to notepad and hit control-v, nothing is copied.

Also, if I look in the keyboard manager under either default or internet
explorer, neither alt-d nor f6 are defined as key strokes.

Hi Lenny,

the folder pane in windows live mail has a compact view option, and my guess
is
that's what was set when you could only see your inbox. To change this
option in

the 2009 version of wlm:
1. Open the layout dialog on the view menu.
2. tab to the folder pane button, and press spacebar to display the options
for

the folder pane.
3. tab once to move to a use compact view for folder pane check box, which
you

can then set as desired.

In the 2011 version of wlm, the option is set using a compact view button
which

is in the layout group of the view tab.

David.

[JAWS-Users] windows live mail crashes

I am using the latest jaws 12, win 7 32 bit. At least once a week when replying

a correction jaws stops talking for up to a minute. When back the email to
which I was replying is lost. No longer in the in box or deleted box. Any ideas?

I left the .ini file in the folder where I unzipped it. When you

[JAWS-Users] color change error message

2011-01-26 Thread Lenny McHugh
Well this is quite interesting. A few times when jaws was starting I heard an
error message stating that colors have been changed to windows 7 basic. It also
mentioned that some programs may not function correctly and that there is a
mirror driver causing the problem. I sent a query to FS about this and was
advised to contact support by phone to try and figure out what was going on. I
had my wife here who could see what was happening since I only heard the
message on a few occasions and she can see it every time that jaws starts.
After talking to support it is determined that there is no real problem. When
jaws starts it turns off some windows features to eliminate problems and when
jaws is stopped everything is automatically turned back on. The support person
had no idea that even a message is displayed. This happens before jaws actually
starts. There is no explanation why on a few occasions it was read to me.
As far as the mirror driver jaws must load one to capture the screen. At least
I now feel better knowing that there is not any problem with my machine or jaws.
As far as the desktop widgets that on rare occasion are read, he suggested that
I remove them. The weather one is interesting and My wife does use it so I will
let it in place.

Lenny,

You can place a plus sign after your userid. Then you can put any thing
you want between the plus sign and the at sign, IE,
dr25+nos...@andrew.cmu.edu Note the plus sign before NoSpam, and the at
sign after.

This is no guaranty, because some places are smart enough to strip out
anything after the plus sign. And other places won't accept the plus
sign. But, it does work often enough to be useful. Helps in setting up
filters as well.

[JAWS-Users] Weather For Mobile Devices: AccuWeather.com

2011-01-16 Thread Lenny McHugh
Our local newspaper has a page for mobile devices. The person in charge of that
area suggested that I try their mobile site thinking it would be better for
jaws and she was very correct. On the mobile news page there is a link for
weather that is also very jaws friendly. That link was also linked directly to
my home town. When I looked at the address I was able to strip everything that
was concatenated and then able to get right to the accuweather mobile main page.
This site is very friendly to jaws and you can get information from most of the
world.
I set the link to my home town as the first page when IE is launched.

Don't dismiss that search box either. You can just start typing the name

type calc, and poof, it is there. Faster than going through the start

everything that is there, but there are ways to do that as well.

Thanks for the help. I was able to add the new contact Then I wanted to delete

my wife try to find how to delete. Windows live mail is not friendly to the
sighted either. After about her playing for about 30 minutes, I remembered the
tip to use f6 and get to mail. From there it was easy.So if I can remember to
use the application key and f6 it may make life a little easier.
Is there anyway to have jaws notify me if the email has an attachment or has

It didn't work for me, but this is what Microsoft said.

Configure the spellchecker in Windows Mail
Follow these steps to access and customize the spell checking settings and
options in Windows Mail:

a.. Once you are inside Windows Mail, click on the Tools menu
 b.. Choose Options
c.. When the Options dialog opens, click on the Spelling tab: this is
where Windows Mail centralizes all available spell checking settings you can
configure.
d.. The first option these accessible through the Always check spelling
before sending checkbox: if checked, Windows Mail will not let you send an
email message before warning you of any grammatical mistakes or spelling
errors that may have caught.
e.. Windows Mail gives you access to spelling exceptions, listed under the
When checking spelling, always ignore section:

. If the Words in UPPERCASE checkbox is checked, the Windows Mail
spellchecker will disregard any spelling issues found in uppercase words
(like acronyms).

. If Words with numbers is checked, it will likewise ignore words made
in part of numbers (that are likely industry-specific words or technical
jargon).

. The The original text in a reply or forward checkbox is checked by
default: by this, Windows Mail means that it will skip checking the spelling
and grammar of emails you receive, or the portion of the email you send that
you have not typed yourself when you reply to an email or forward it on to
someone else.

. Finally, the Internet Addresses is also checked by default; when it is
enabled, Windows Mail will ignore Internet addresses that may contain word
in its spell checker.
f.. The last spell checking option Windows Mail offers concerns language:
it is by default set to your operating system's current language, but can be
changed to one of the foreign language dictionaries that ship with Windows
Mail: English, French (France), German (Germany), or Spanish (International
Sort).
g.. Once you're done configuring the Windows Mail spellchecker, click on
the OK button to accept the new settings, and return to your emails.
These are all the options Windows Mail offers for checking the spelling of
your messages; regardless of what you just configured, the new email window
(what you see when you compose new emails, reply to an email, or forward an
email) actually includes in its own spelling button so you can run the
spellchecker even if you have disabled it by default.

Hello Lenny,

I created a couple audio files for one of my clients that deal with burning
in Windows Media Player 12. If you feel like taking the time to listen to
them, I have given links in this message where you can download the files.
The first recording is somewhat lengthy, but I get into the topic of using
Windows auto play before I discuss the burning process. The second file
deals with creating a playlist and burning it in Windows Media Player 12.
If you decide to listen to the files then you might want to speed up the
playback. Use CTRL+shift+g to do that in Windows Media Player if that is
the program you use for listening to MP3 files.

The links shown below take you to a web site where you will need to choose a
download link to start the downloading of the files.

[JAWS-Users] burning audio cd windows media player 12

2010-11-05 Thread Lenny McHugh
I tried to use the tutorial for windows media player 10 and xp. Step 8 fails
for me using windows media player 12 and win 7 32 bit with jaws 12. The
instructions at step 8 are as follows:
8. Now, go to My Computer, and select your cd burner, and press enter to open
it.
At this point the drawer opens and jaws reads insert a cd in the drive and
there is a choice to help locate what kind to use. I also hear a percentage
counter. If I cancel the drive is again closed. If I go on and enter a cd as
step 9
9. When the burner opens, Jaws will say, list view, zero items. Paste your
files here, and wait for the copying to finish. I never get the zero list.
10. When copying has finished, place a CDR disk in the drive, and close the
drawer. If a dialogue pops up, and prompts you to choose an action, tab to the
cancel button and press the spacebar.

Lenny, I am running jaws 12 with windows 7 on a 64 bit machine, and I use
WIMP 12 to burn CD's all the time. Here's what I do. There are probably
better ways, but here is what I do.
So you rip the files from the original CD to wherever you keep them on your
computer.
Next, I give the folder those particular files in a name, like the name of
the CD.
Next, I send that folder to my CD Drive, wherever yours is on your computer.
The minute I do that, it asks me to put a blank disk into my computer, so I
do that. then, it asks me what type of disk I want to burn, data or for a
regular CD player. So I choose what I want. then it asks me to title the
disk, so I do. then it says next, and since I have chosen WIMP 12 to be my
default player in terms of burning disks, WIMP 12 comes up. then, if you tab
over to you hear library button, you will hear, Start burn button. So hit
your space bar, and the CD will start to burn. I hope this helps. Jim

Before you send it to your CD drive, add the file to your windows media

Hi Sherri,
You can't change the volume of Jaws independently,
however, you can change the volume of Winamp.
In Winamp, use the up and down arrow keys to control the volume.

Sorry, no there isn't, XP is one of those opperating systems that don't
allow indevidual volume changes such as what your talking about, although
Vista and 7 has that ability via the system tray.

find out how to accomplish this. I am running JFW10 with Windows XP and
Eloquence. Is it possible for me to change the volume of Jaws and leave the
other items I am running, say Winamp, the same volume. If I have Winamp set

without affecting the Winamp volume? Thanks.

You are correct that it will not read however the information is there. My

take the page and package to the drop off point and let them fold and attach

message that it is in internet protected mode. I never encountered that
before. I should have put the printed page on the scanner for open book to

Greetihngs. I need to print a UPS return label in order to return an
unwanted shipment to Overstock.com using the UPS tracking number they
supplied me. But when I visit the web page from which I am supposed to
print the return label, I can't find any sign of it. The page contains
instructions for printing the label and returning the shipment, but no sign
of the label itself. I was told by an Overstock .com customer service agent
that the lable contains a bar code and Overstoc's return address as well as
some other information, but even using the JAWS cursor, I can't find
anything on this page, not even an unlabeled image or graphic that would
suggest the presence of a return lable, which the agent insists is right
there on the page. Is this one of those web pages that is simply
inaccessible to JAWS? Even so, shouldn't there be some kind of graphic or
image to suggest the presence of the return label? Below is the link to the
web page in question. Any feedback on how to locate

and print this seemingly invisible return label would be appreciated.
