It depends on the bread - they are NOT all created equal. No, you
can't buy

good bread, you have to make it. Load it up with whole grain flours,
sproated if you wish, little to no oil, ad oat meat, flax seed meal, etc.
and you will have a filling, high fiber bread with fewer and slowly
absorbing carbs.
Oh, and it's good for you to boot . . .

Not all bread is created equal. Certainly grocery store white bread
(Air and fat) and real bread made with whole grains soaked, cooked or
sprouted.

Either - we do both. The sourdought starter is from the yeast occurring in
the iar in our house - who knows what it is?
My wifw is now on her second 50 lb. bag of yeast in the last 25 years or so
- we keep it in the freezer, pull out a pound or so when needed. It's MUCH
less expensive this way.

Oil is high calories - which are what really count, not carbs.

We have that in some of our local stores, its in the frozen foods aisle.
Doesn't taste like much, but it is "bread'...

Personally, that's too radical a change for our household, we'd never stick
with that, so I find something with no HFCS and does have multi-grains and
no sugar added, and then just limit the intake.

If I were going to make a sandwich to take to work every day, I'd get a
bread machine to control the ingredients and make sure it tastes like
something I'll eat for the rest of my life.

You can make bread out of almond flour with less carbs, if you want.

Quite right. My wife routinely makes a nice French bread loaf that
includes nothing apart from what you list. Very good the first day and
great toast the next with the left overs.

Nature Made is a brand around here that is OK and still very inexpensive.
Rye breads can also be OK.

Re: [MBZ] Now Fruits - was BAT crack prediction

2017-10-19 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
I am assuming that if I am shooting for a certain carb number to stay under,
even if I eat a sandwich with white bread as long as it comes in under that
target I should be fine. So if a piece of bread is day 13 net carbs and I eat a
sandwich, depending on what else is on the sandwich we are talking maybe 30 or
so carbs for that sandwich. If my target is less than 103 per day, then I
should still have plenty of room in the carb budget left, correct. I think the
problem would be if you are a ton of bread. Or at least more than a couple of
slices a day.

Get a bread maker, make bread in big batches, slice and freeze. Very little
actual labor involved and you get better bread for small money.

Gotta be careful. It could contain wheat, rye, oats = 99%

They're cheap too.  You can premix all your dry ingredients to save more

Forget about commercial packaged breads although German Rudischlager black

2017-10-19 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
It depends on the bread - they are NOT all created equal. No, you can't buy
good bread, you have to make it. Load it up with whole grain flours,
sproated if you wish, little to no oil, ad oat meat, flax seed meal, etc.
and you will have a filling, high fiber bread with fewer and slowly
absorbing carbs.
Oh, and it's good for you to boot . . .

I love sandwiches. Hence too much bread intake. When I lay off the bread

Last night when I ate dinner I was not really that hungry. If you cut your
portions way down it seems you adjust to the lower amount of food and will be
hungry and first but after you get used it, you are not hungry anymore. Cutting
carbs also leads to you not being hungry all the time also, or so I read.

I am basically just focused on cutting sweats and high carb starch food. I
would love to have some potatoes but so far not eating them. Just doing that
will cut the carbs way down. No bread items either.

Today I had a taco salad with no beans and did not eat the shell and had 2 eggs
and bacon for a meeting this morning st IHOP and only at 11 carbs for the day
out of the 103 I have allowed myself. I have this app set for 103 carbs which
you put in how much per week you want to lose then set what sort of carb/fat
ratio you want and it give you a daily number to hit. The most carbs I have had
since starting this was 49 one day. Most days I have been just slightly over
20. Surely on this plan I will loose weight.

Re: [MBZ] Now Fruits - was BAT crack prediction

2017-10-18 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I just try to base it on plate real estate. I use half of what I was
previously. I may still be eating too much at this point, but I’m eating less,
so that’s a start. I have trained myself to skip meals or change my eating
habits in the past without a lot of difficulty, so I’m sure I’ll be successful
with this. I can go from wake up to supper with nothing more than water and a
yogurt, at least until I discovered how many carbs there are in nonfat yogurt!

Hence the desire to find some healthier alternatives.

I like dates, too. I have had luck with grapes at Costco. It’s so difficult
to find ones that are ripe. I don’t understand why people eat the ones with
the green stems, as they taste awful. If the stems aren’t brown, they’re not
typically ripe.

I’ve got a really good farmer’s market in town that’s open 7 days a week
starting at 4:30 am. They have every imaginable fruit and vegetable on hand.
I’m going there tomorrow at lunch, I think.
