setup your soundcard using sounddrake, a Mandrake-specific config tool, if you
are using alsa, the standard base Mandrake sound system? It only works if
you are using oss as your sound driver base.

This will produce a message with a subject of "ip update message" and add my
email to the "To:" field. It does leave an empty message body and doesn't
send a "ctrl-d"

It has been awhile...but, if you installed StarOffice as root and without the
/net switch, only root will be able to use it. In /usr/local there should be
a StarOffice directory. Within this directory, there should be a program
directory. In program, there should be a binary called "soffice"
Your system is really lacking. You can install and run linux on a simple/old
system but not with all the bells and whistles. You can install it on a 386
with 48MB Ram but you certainly couldn't use kde or gnome.
The more "minimal" a system, the more simple a window manager you can use.

for someone with anemic hardware 8\ to explain how they get a fully workable
system...unless your system is CLI-only. I doubt that would be much
encouragement or favorably demonstrative.

across is it is logrithmically slower to upgrade than to simply do a
reinstall. It takes frickin' forever to upgrade.

I have had much problems with urpmi on my desktop system. Virtually any
package name or fragment I pass through urpmi fails. My latest failure was
in trying to install tnef:

I have to do a Ctrl-C to get the command prompt back.
What do I do to get rpm working again? What file do I delete (database,
config, whatever) so I can reset the whole mess with an "rpm --rebuild"?
This is on my Thinkpad laptop.

Ultimately, I rebooted after all this. I then found that root and user were
able to query the database and install rpms again. At this point I don't
know if my repeated --rebuilddb attempts actually worked but stalled before
closing the process or what, but it is working aga
ltimately, it is my hope that this is a stupid move to get SCO bought out by
IBM, which could consume SCO without feeling it, and this will go away.
