I've managed to get the 'book, after 6 hours of work, to now boot off of the CF startup unit, but I can't get it to work properly from the hard drive. Doing a clean install from 8.1 fails, as does upgrading, or even just dragging the system folder from the CF to the HD and going from there. S

I found another 1400 that I had stashed. Tried it and could get no response other than a little noise. So, assuming it is not the hard drive, I pulled that 2.G and put it in the good 1400. The machine recognized it, but said it wasn't a HDD disk. I tried to initialize it and it didn't happen.
