Have you stopped and asked yourself WHY the sprinkler system hasn't worked in
years, WHY the fountain is broken and has been used as an open air bathroom and
garbage receptacle, WHY drugs are freely bought and sold in and around the
park? Could the answer possibly be that the city, i.e.. the maintenance
department and police department, have not cleaned/patrolled the park? Given
the past history of the park and the lack of care to maintain and keep the
vagrants and drug dealers out of there, what makes you think that the dogs
will make a difference in how the city maintains the park? The problems that
exist in the park will not be solved by the dogs!

If the park is such a valued and cherished area of the Historical Society (I
use that term very loosely) how come none of it members are patrolling it and
cleaning it like other organizations do for the other green spaces in the city?

I regularly patrol/clean up a green space by my home and I don't belong to any
association.

Sometimes if you want things done right you have to do them yourselves

Your argument is flawed, has very little merit. By no means will the WHOLE park
be consumed by a dog park. That's silly. The dog beach is not open to animals
during the day. Yappy Hour is once/twice a week.

Have you ever been to a dog park? You talk as if they're filled with feces and
just plain dirty. In 25yrs of owning dogs and bringing them to dog parks, I
have yet to see that

You assume the dog owners who want this are lazy. Have you ever walked in AP at
7am? Do it, no one is lazy. Dog parks are not intended to be a shit/piss fest
or for exercise, they are for socialization, like a bar or coffee shop for
humans (you should try one sometime)

And for your society to install things and expect others to maintain them
is in fact LAZY

The city does a great job of keeping the park clean. And the city has quiet a
fewother problem areas that need police attention.

The park is ignored by the general public for some very simple reasons. First
off, there's nor a single park bench there. Secondly, because it's so unused by
the general public, the street people who spend time in it scare people away.
And that's exactly why the dog loving community will bring new life to the
park. An empty park invites trouble. Now, the park will have a reason to
attract people. More people will make the park less attractive for misuse.

I'm sorry, but your organization is completely out of touch with the reality of
dog parks, and their benefits. If you are going to have a negative opinion
about something you obviously know nothing about, then I suggest you do some
research and educate yourselves. Like I said, you should go and visit the dog
park in Oceanport. It's big, beautiful, and clean, and it attracts a wonderful
community of people. Library Square Park, as it stands today attracts nobody.

I am on the fence about the dog park in Library Sq but I will give it a chance.
I guess its selfishness since only a few of us dog owners use it now. I walk my
little guy off the leash across streets etc. He probably wont want to go into
the penned area but I will give it a chance and see what sort of control other
owners have over their dogs. I believe in leash laws but your dog should be
trained off leash as well. Many of the seniors from Phillips Seaview walk their
dogs in LS. It is such a beautiful place and yes, I wish the fountain and
lights would have held up. I know a great deal of money was spent there. BTW,
city maintenance does a great job.

What I am wondering about is its placement. Is it going to be the whole
triangle on the east side bordering Heck? There are plaques and monuments
there. I let Ray and Tony's two sons run freely there when we walk Louie.

But, let's give it a chance. It's a pilot program. Most dog owners are great,
but I hope we do not get folks who breed pit bulls and really do not care or
train them. That's not a knock against pits, I know lovely ones and there are
no bad dogs, only bad owners.

The park as a space is a failure in current day Asbury Park. It's not a
destination for anyone, it's an avoidance. The value of the park (or any park
for that matter) is for the people who have the right to use it as a public
space and with its current reputation, it's not very welcoming. Currently and
for a long while it hasn't been a great space... when something doesn't work it
needs to be fixed.

The layout of the park wont change and the entire space is remaining as a park.
So a part of the lawn won't be there... what part of the population will that
upset? Now instead there will be a great reason for people to want to spend
time there. Asbury Park is a great community for dogs and dog owners... being
that not only the animals, but the people who own them, are an important part
of the community they should absolutely have a right to the space.

Progress and preservation don't need to always be enemies. The give and take
here is fairly simple. Give the dogs and their owners a great public space and
they'll give back to the community by making a space a wonderful place to spend
time.

The park's historical glory will only return when the people come to cherish
the space again.

Seasonal special public works employees - kind of like special cops

I had the fund of driving my mother in law's car back from florida a few weeks
ago - ALONE. I took advantage of it - I stopped in Savannah at night, woke up
early and took a 3 hour self-guided tour of the squares. Each square about
the size of library park.

At 6:30 am - there were a few folks sleeping or hanging out in the the parks
- by 9 am, I saw many what I would guess were type of job corp people with
rakes, leaf blowers etc cleaning up the leaves etc - early in the morning, it
may not be what you expect when you here about Savannah - but they seemed to be
putting people to work. Mind you, there were still a few people sleeping on the
benches around noon when I headed out.

The city once again I read is looking for programs or has programs and funding
to put kids or adults to work. WELL - nothing wrong with learning about
trees, shrubs, grass, installing sprinklers etc. You can train some kids or
adults and it;s a JOB. Special Park employee. Take some of the cash from the
parking authority.

On Sprinklers, I get all my stuff from sprinklerwarehouse.com saved a ton of
cash on parts and installation/repair. A guy hit me $375 once for a valve that
I picked up for $81.00 and did it myself (plus fixed the kooky tie in he did so
if goes again I can replace it in 3 minutes).

It's pretty basic - water line into valve and long as there is power for the
timers. The heads are cheap.

And if someone was able to raise $60k, well good for them. At least the money
went ot a cause - now to figure out how ti maintain it and enhance even more.

My pitbull is a therapy dog...lives w/two shihtzu's who terrorize him. He's
actually an American Staffordshire. Everyone around here knows him.

He used to put on a show for people at the green space at 5th and Locust and
Bridge.he'd climb the trees. Six feet up or so. Then he blew out both
knees. 9K later, he doesn't climb trees anymore. Just goes to hospitals and
plays with my little nieces.

I've owned pits for 18yrs. They are not for everyone. In the wrong hands they
can cause problems, mainly backyard breeders and music videos have hurt the
breed.

As many pitbulls as there are in Asbury, I have rarely come across any
aggressive ones.

I could go on for days advocating for them, but in the same breath I understand
ones reservations.

2012-06-07 Thread Hinge

The sprinkler system that your organization installed hasn't worked in years.

The dog park is exactly what is needed, because it's main use for the past 7
years that I've lived adjacent to it is a place where drugs are bought and
sold, street people use it as a open air bathroom, and the fountain is broken
and used as a garbage receptical.

The dog park will breath life into Liberty Square Park.

Dear Mr. Thoman;

Library Park is truly a beautiful park and lovely setting; however, it doesn't
seem to the serve the community as a whole since it is all too often occupied
by those who vandalize that which you have worked so hard to improve. It
actually might be best for the preservation of its partial beauty to host the
canine community and its owners in the lovely oasis so that just through their
abundant presence more citizens will take notice and will enjoy the park; as
well, mischievous conduct will be deterred.

I personally thought the Grand Ave religious organizations fine Churches
would get more involved with Library Park; however, that does not seem to be
so, given that most special occasion photo ops occur on the boardwalk.

Just curious, i watched the slicing of original relief on the Young Mens
Christian building this past weekend recently purchased by johnny mac co.,
does the historic society have an opinion or suggest control on what can be
destroyed on such a historic building? Thanks for your patience to my obvious
lack of knowledge of your efforts.

Kindly,

Cameras. Your dog poops and only you and your dog are there. You give that
funny look around, don't pick it up cause your too lazy and think no one saw it
and walk away. The Poop Cam gets you.

I've seen people on dog beach walk away from their dog's poop - but a majority
pick it up.

Make sure all dogs have a license. Can't even get into the WB on doggie days
without a WB Dog id I think.

Other then a few paranoid dog owners every now and then, most of the dog owners
I met on the beach are a great bunch as are their dogs.

They should also consider making dog beach or a smaller section of it a full
day instead of cutting it off @ 9 am.

It's a great PR bit as well.

With all due respect to Hinge and Werner (both of whom i respect for their
posts, intelligence, knowledge and passion about the town, particularly
werner who is extremely knowledgable on a number of topics), it is important
that we realize that Asbury is not continental Europe and that ironically is
a good thing. While gorgeous in architecture and history, the socialistic
aspects of Europe have effectively brought the continent to its knees in a
terrible financial crisis that in many ways is far worse than the housing
situation that we went through here. The crisis in that content will
continue to plague them for years to come and while all of us love Europe for
its splendor, it is unfortunately a great place to visit but one who's future
is troubled by its financial situation which will be an albatross for years
 to come.

I too wish that Asbury could be completely restored to its former splendor.
However, i am also aware that i have to balance that desire with the
pragmatic aspects of the current and the future. Both in regard to economics
and social change. While historic theatre's are romantic and whimsical to
think about, we live in a world of iPod's and Facebook. Sometimes change is
scary but it is a part of moving forward in history. Just like Asbury was
transformative in its beginning, it should be so again. When reading the
history books, the town was forward thinking with indoor air conditioning in
the paramount or a train line over sunset bridge that took patrons downtown
for shopping. in the 1920's this was futuristic stuff. We need to think
about what is forward thinking now and attempt to tie it appropriately to our
past. One size does not fit all.

I for one think the town is on a very promising path of resurgence. Asbury
has done extremely well though a brutal economic downturn. With no help from
a very failed redevelopment plan, the town has found a way to claw itself
further along house by house, business by business. Crime is obviously a
very serious problem and one that needs to be addressed. So where do we go
from here. Importantly, the economy is starting to rebound and the housing
market has found its bottom although their is likely to be a shallow upturn
rather than a resurgence. As werner has talked about i think the town's
resurgence has its roots in music and entertainment. I'm glad bamboozle is
coming to Asbury and anything we can do to promote both music and
 entertainment should be applauded

how can we blend the past and the future? While i agree with Werner that the
loss of some of the historical treasures are a tragedy, i also realize that
the economic realities made it so. that being said, i think the historical
artifacts and building that are left such as convention hall or the beautiful
casino building should be brought back to their historical glory. This is an
enormous economic undertaking and needs to be considered in light of
reformation in the context of a return on invested capital. Even back in the
1920's, the architects of the buildings did not think they were going to be
built for beauty alone without form of purpose.

I am a bit discouraged regarding the posts i read on this site. I find that
every post is castigating madison marquette for all of their transgressions.
I want to say that i have zero affiliation with madison marquette and only
have spoken to their representatives over an errant vodka soda one summer
evening. i agree they have made some mistakes but as a homeowner in this
town i am thrilled that they are here, undertaking an enormous monetary
investment and trying to bring the town back in spite of its challenges. I
know that given the circumstances most people would have cut bait at this
point considering the investment and I for one am glad MM has not. I'm not
sure what the alternative is. It's always easy to criticize but always more
 difficult to offer solutions.

I'm not sure if anyone from Madison marquette reads this board. Or if any of
the more involved citizens of Asbury would be willing to get involved. I
think it would be a great idea to bring together an ad hoc group to discuss
potential improvements to the redevelopment and or town under the concept of
cooperation and not attack... effectively a brain storming group where no
idea was stupid and attacks on the past, future or status quo were avoided in
lieu of ideas about what could be better. With an

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park bicycle thieves

2011-06-10 Thread Hinge
Yeah, I had parts stolen off my bike a few years ago. Last night, a neighbor of
mine who constantly makes the mistake of locking her bike to a telephone pole
also had her front wheel stolen, and it's her only transportation.
What can be done about this? Obviously parents aren't wondering where their
kids are getting all of their bikes and bike parts.
Maybe the city should require everybody to register their bikes, just like they
do with dog licenses. If a kid is caught riding a bike without a sticker,
impound it. If it's found to be stolen, arrest the little shit heads.

One measure we, (as the potential victims) can take is to make sure we write
down the bikes serial numbers

I have all of my bikes serial numbers along with corresponding pictures of them
as well

I would never leave a bike locked up outside of a fence on your property, 2 of
ours were locked up to our deck prior to having our fence put up, we came home
to find a cut lock and no bikes

The police keep great records of bikes reported stolen, and its a THICK book

Yeah, I had parts stolen off my bike a few years ago. Last night, a neighbor of
mine who constantly makes the mistake of locking her bike to a telephone pole
also had her front wheel stolen, and it's her only transportation.
What can be done about this? Obviously parents aren't wondering where their
kids are getting all of their bikes and bike parts.
Maybe the city should require everybody to register their bikes, just like they

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park bicycle thieves

2011-06-10 Thread Hinge
Doesn't it all come back to inattentive parenting? If you kid has 10 bikes in
their backyard and you don't question you child about it, then something is
wrong. I see boys riding girls bikes and big kids riding bikes that are way to
small for them all the time. One time when I was working at Second Life Bikes,
and kid came in with a bike freshly painted with black spray paint. I asked him
where he got it. He said it was sitting on the curb, so he just took it. I told
him that a spray painted bike is a tell-tale sign of it being stolen. He acted
nervous and would not look me in the eye. Repeat that over and over in our
city. Parents are casting a blind eye to their kids unlawful behavior.

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park historical society pushes to salvage Baronet Theater artifacts

2010-11-12 Thread cathrynbe2002
Interesting, thanks for posting.

Did anyone go inside during 2006 when it was open? Seems like if extensive
renovations were done in 2005-2006, that, in four years, it wouldn't have
fallen apart...

Cathryn.

From the article:

During the two decades under then-owners Walter Burns and Maurice Roberson, the
theater opened intermittently starting in 1986. Developers Dennis Dubrow and
Patrick Fasano bought the theater in December 2005 and reopened it for the
summer after extensive renovations in July 2006. The following summer Fasano
and Dubrow sold it to the city’s master redeveloper.

The theater never opened again. Years of decay took its toll on the art deco
building that stood neglected and underutilized while the city limped along in
a stalled oceanfront redevelopment.

I liked the Baronet because it was the oldest theater in town, Crawford said.
It was just a nice comfortable theater.

The Baronet, Stine said, is one of many historically significant buildings the
city continues to lose to redevelopment and neglect. This has been an ongoing
problem in the city for decades actually †demolition through neglect, Stine
said.

In YOUR country? What are we, chopped liver?

Yes, Germany was first and Queen Victoria introduced it to the Brits
through her German husband Prince Albert, later introduced into the
United States, during the Victorian period. However the customs of
Christmas evolved, the overcommercialization of one of the Churches
most sacred days cannot be overemphasized. For me, Good Friday, is
the most sacred of all Holy Days. For God so gave the world, His
only begotten Son. Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday,
ring true for me, followed by Pentecost.

No need to argue over who started what, because like a child, I still
believe in Santa Claus or the very idea of him.

from the Roman Saturnalia , had afterwards been intermingled with

 burning of
the Yule log. Regarding the Christmas tree itself, Chambers notes
 that
it seems to be a very ancient custom in Germany, and is probably a
remnant of the splendid and fanciful pageants of the middle ages.
Other traditions relating to Christmas that may derive from
 Germanic
pagan practices include the Christmas ham, Yule Goat, stuffing
stockings, elements of Santa Claus and his nocturnal ride through
 the

There are also some accounts that place the earliest Christmas

On Friday night at 6 in the Grand Arcade between Paramount and CH
there will be a performance by the NJ Rock n Roll Chorus.

Try to find the nice young lady from Howell singing 1st Soprano.

I imagine they will be singing Christmas songs, but they just
recorded an a copella verson of Born to Run. Considering the venue,
I'm guessing they will sneak it in.

I hope you enjoy.

Yes - Christmas Trees.

You see, Christmas is also a cultural part of America. A recognized
federal holiday. Many Jews who are proud of their American Culture
take part fully in the American tradition of Christmas, without the
religious part of the celebration.

They wouldn't dream of casting an insult by changing the name of
Christmas.

Better to be inclusive and be part of the American holiday.

question would be:

Should we really be out there singing: On the First Day of
Christmas, Ma-Tola-Gave-To-Us, a Christmas Tree inside the Car-Rou-

Shouldn't this be a CITY activity, not a DEVELOPER activity?

Happy Festival of Lights, Tommy! Yep, I get it.

it's on the owner's property, not public.

It's the season and real smart they can turn the arcade into a
shopping/entertainment center - in December.

And it should be good for downtown, who has to learn and take
advantage of the boardwalk draw and feed off of it.

That's FREE marketing for the downtown and the rest of the city.

Learn to capitalize on it.

A guy once had a pizzeria. He first complained that McDonalds moved
across the street (must of meant he was in a good spot, right). He
thought it would hurt his business.

In the long run, his business increased and he gained additional
parking from the lot and additional traffic

get it?

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park v Howell

2008-10-19 Thread justifiedright
Howell - 20.
Asbury Park - 12.

Great game.

They may play again in a post season game in AP; I'll let you all
know if it happends.

After the 1st kick-off there were 4 officials on the field, and they
were going to keep time there. The coach of AP objected and wanted
official time kept on the scoreboard, which takes an official off the
field. It's his right to insist, but it does take a pair of eyes away.

The next play when there was 3 officials, there was a Howell TD.
Looked to me like he was out of bounds (AP players all pointing to the
spot I saw), and ironically, the official keeping time would have been
in position to catch it were he down there.

Howell was leading 14-0 right before the half. Ran some plays when he
could have sat on it (probably trying to get kids plays). Lost the
ball and AP scored. Very exciting.

Late in the forth it was 14-12 with Howell drinving. 4th down and 8
to go at mid field. Most would have punted. Howell completed a pass
play for the 1st that eventually led to a TD.

Game ended exciting too, with AP driving. Could have tied the game.
Pass intercepted by Howell with short time left.

Don't have a clue! One of Neptune's former players is playing for
Marlboro. Don't know which team was discontinued. I did attend
Neptune's Homecoming last Saturday. The Class of 1976, was being
honored. I notice Asbury Park Pop Warner kids out on the street with
buckets, asking for donations. What's up with that? 3 of my kids
live in Neptune, which is why I know. Received a call during the
Marlboro game that the parents from Marlboro were fighting with the
refs! When I was coaching they were doing the same thing, (80's)!
Overzealous parents complaining that their kids weren't getting into

For some reason, many kids from Neptune are playing for Asbury.
Neptune's program seems decimated. I heard they had to drop one
level completely, and when the mighty might team I coach in Howell
went to play them, Neptune forfieted for not having enough players.
Anyone know what's up with that? Sharon??

Anyway, Howell also has an undefeated team (not sure if it is pee wee
or jr midget). They happen to be playing an Asbury team on Sunday.

I'll be spotting the game for the announcer. The announcer will be
Mike Clark, who graduated APHS with me and coaches with me here in
 Howell.

HOWELL WILL BE PACKED WITH FANS! They moved this game from Saturday
because Saturday is Howell Day and the fear was so many people were
going to the game that Howell Day would be a bust.

Accordingly, to keep Howells 12th man off the field, the Asbury
Park kids are going to need many people to come cheer for them, so
pass this around and come if you can.

Show some Asbury spirit and come support the kids.

 Everyone's welcome.

Should be fun and a great game.

 Here's where:

 Howell Pop Warner Complex

GSP (N)/(S) Exit 98 Route 138 West, which turns into Interstate 195
West. Continue 2 miles to Exit 31A, Monmouth County Route 547 South.
Go 1000 feet to the traffic light and turn right onto Old Tavern
Road. The complex will be approx. 500 feet after the railroad
crossing, across from the Law Enforcement Center, and Library.

Route 9 (Optional) (N)/(S) to Aldrich Road East, and continue to the
end. At the yield sign, bear right on Windler Road, and continue 500
feet to Oak Glen Road, turn left. Around the 1st curve, turns into
Old Tavern Road. Proceed ½ miles, and just past Preventorium Road,
field will be on the right, across from Law Enforcement Center.

I don't think it's wrong to be critical of the way the system was
implemented. This is a system, which people have shown quite a bit of
confusion in using - one that had at least one local town (Belmar)
eliminate the system for that very reason. The meters also run a good
5 hours longer than any of the nearby towns.

I think those two points are definitely worth discussing and debating.

2008-09-03 Thread Jack Pitzer
I have to agree with Gary. The parking meters would be good for the city if
they were
properly implemented, but they weren't. It was confusing. And it's even more
confusing
that you can park in a lot for free, but you can also park in a confusing paid
parking space
, potentially screw up and wind up with a $26 ticket.
This whole situation is just bad PR for AP.

Who approved this system? Did the PEOPLE know? How many other issues
go under the radar? Where did those parking lots come form? They

2008-08-31 Thread Jack Pitzer
The city failed with this parking system on so many different levels.
First off, they should've waited till next summer, or until more of the
renovation is
complete.
Secondly, it's confusing people left and right. And if you park too far away
from the
machines, and don't know that you have to pay to park, and didn't note the
space number,
you have to walk all the way back to your car. Strike 2.
Finally, there is no communication between the city and MM, because MM has free
lots at
the SP, Casino and the Wonder Bar. People seems to be parking in those, rather
then use
the pay spaces. I'd do the same thing. Nobody is watching those lots.
This is already generating lots of brand new bad publicity for our city. It
should. If you get
a $26 ticket because the system is confusing, you are gonna tell all your
friends about it.
I think the city should cancel all of those tickets that were issued and fix
things.

Belmar actually tried a parking meter system like that a year or two but
removed it in favor of the old system of one meter per space because too
many people complained about not understanding where they should be
 paying for their spot.

New signs would definitely be helpful as there are areas where you
really have to look quite a distance to find the machine to pay.

anyone think of that before putting up those shacks?

I've always appreciated when I have good photo opportunities. That

Its changed for the worse. It used to be a white building and the

That's another point altogether! I think that the thought that went
into the initial design of the street plan was visionary. You have to
admit that the wide streets at the oceanside do allow some great
circulation to the uppper blocks in town,(of which I'm a beneficiary!)
If you compare Asbury design to say the obstruction of the oceanfront
in Long Branch you can see what extreme building conveysthe beach
is only for some people...for example.

You raise some good points. I had only been thinking about the facade
factor when I initially posted. Open spaces between the pavillions
does make sense if you are keeping with historical design standards.
It makes additional sense if you keep in mind environmental problems
of today. Thanks.

I was in Israel about 10 years ago on business. We visited the old

The funny part of the xmas trees was my firend's brother went to
Brooklyn to buy a trailer of trees. When they delivered them and
started unbundeling them, they weren't exactly full.

So we took wire and sold 2 for 1 tie them together for one good tree
and the rest we chopped up and made grave blankets or wreaths.

Things you can't learn in school.

Self-interested speculation?... quality rather than quantity...?

Perhaps Asbury Park, Asbury Partners and MM need a history lesson.

from the Chicago Plan website
... there was too much ugliness and squalor. The planners blamed this
condition on uncontrolled development and self-interested speculation.
The Plan maintains that the issue facing Chicago is no longer
expansion but conservation, quality rather than quantity of life. Time
and again, it declares that a city's social, cultural, and financial
well-being are inseparable. The constant struggle of civilization is
to know and to attain the highest good, it states, and the city
which brings about the best conditions of life becomes the most
prosperous. Lack of planning had wasted time, effort, and money,

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park ?

2008-07-14 Thread Mark Mark
First people said no one will come to Asbury. Now its there is grid lock
because too many people are coming to Asbury. My coworkers who visited asbury
could not believe all the events that were going on. Yup they had to drive
around to find parking near North Beach, but they also paid $150/cple

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park ?

2008-07-14 Thread Mark Mark
(Con't) they paid $150/cple to eat at Salt Water.  They loved it and raved
about how much asbury has progressed. They are planning on going back this
weekend.

I like the way the pavilions look. Could they be better? Sure. Am I going to
complain..nope. The people are coming and everyone is having a good time. Isn't
that what the boardwalk is supposed to present? A good time.

Did anyone try the Cuban sandwiches? They are great!

A couple signs on what IS coming next should be splurged on. A nice
big waterpark sign, some temp lighting om the closed buildings would
help as well. Lot of people still have no idea waht is going on.

Also, this is summer. If you already have an operating business on the
BW, BE OPEN at night.

A boardwalk business is not meant to be open from 10-5pm. It's a
BOARDWALK. It;s SUMMER, Be open to at least 10 pm.

Even it's DEAD.

There were 20 people playing golf. 20 x 5 = $100. 100 x 10 hours -
$1,000.

Get it?

Surprised MM hasn't put in SOH = standard operating hours.

I would. I did it when I was there - regardless of weather i the
summer. We could do more biz when we went real nuts and reopened from
11pm - 2am.

I absolutely agree that bikes should be allowed after 9 pm, but only on
weekdays.

Coincidentally, I ran into two out-of-town friends around 6 tonight. The
were on Sunset, headed to the boardwalk. When I mentioned the crods and
parking situation this past weekend, they were skeptical because they work
weekends
and can only do the boards on week nights.

Based on your report of the closed shops tonight, I doubt they'll be any
less skeptical.

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park Chamber Names Carousel Awards

2008-02-22 Thread sharon_b283
Glenn,
You're absolutely right! Why doesn't the hypocrisy of it all, NOT
surprise me? At the 110th Anniversary, thing, the Carousel was used
for the cake, but still, no carousel in the city, except in our minds,
which I lost a long time ago! My mind, that is! Well, the snow is
falling and AP schools are open, as usual! Seems they'd give these
kids ONE snow day, since they haven't had any all year! As far as the
Chamber, it's just a popularity contest, as far as I'm concerned.
Name me one member, no 2, that live here! A lot of what goes on here,
is just so window dressing! Too many restaurants, with no real
business, here. Well, at least Tommy is consistent, with being a
Republican; seems he owns an oil business, here! Read it in the
paper. Weldon's pensions suspended. Have mixed feelings over that.
His firemen's pension, shouldn't have been involved. Seems he earned
that. He still has his family. Sorry folks, they shouldn't have to
pay for his mistakes. Alright, I've donned my flame-retardant, suit.
 Flame, away!
