I would like to set my 2511 so it would be possible to switch from each of
my routers console port on my lab. Is there a sample configuration setup for
this. Being new at this I'm a little lost. I would greatly appreciate any

you're lucky. Just plug a straight-through cat5 cable from the 16 async
ports on the 2511 to your routers or switches console port. Then on your

tactical softwares port director (creates a virtual modem on your desktop,

Yes. The CS-500 series are very old in terms of Cisco equipment. They will
not run 10.x code without an upgrade. I got mine with upgraded RAM which
allows me to TFTP boot 10.3 code.
Also read the CCO documentation as they are a little strange for things like
password recovery...

I had a similar problem with a PIX-501. My solution was to add 'modem
cts-required' under the line configuration of the termainl server connected
to the PIX.

100.200.167.22. And I had configure the username ID for dial in but I can't
log which users had dial in ??? can you help???

i have an oppurtunity to buy a 500-CS access router in
place of a 2509/2511 access router for my Lab
practice.
I hear they serve the same purpose for the lab.My
question(s) is/are : in as much as they serve the same
purpose, would there be any difference HW/SW (e.g IOS
version running,numbe
constantly negotiating for speeds.
Debuging modem logs show speed negotiation. Also need to find out what
compression method clients modem is using Vs. your access server modems.
It has been long time since i worked on modems, Good luck.

Like the 2509/2511 there is an 8 port 508-cs and an 16 port 516-cs. I am
using a 516-cs in my home lab. It runs IOS, but only a version 10. Uses
regular rolled terminal cables to connect to the devices. It is working
fine for me.
