If I recall correctly, the older 2500s had 2 meg shared memory onboard that was seperate then the regular DRAM. The newer 2500's don't have the seperate 2meg shared memory and take the shared memory from the DRAM installed. 16meg is the max amount of memory to put in the 2501. I can't recall a

If the router will not boot then you must do this from rommon mode. When the router is attempting to boot, issue a break using whichever keys your terminal software expects. When you get to a prompt, type tftpdnld in lowercase. This will show you a list of variables that need to be set for a tf

Ah, good point. Those instructions were from when we were upgrading to 11.2 a couple of years ago. Back then, our boot ROMS were 10.2, IIRC, so all of these steps were necessary. I haven't done many upgrades on a 2500 series since then. I have done a few and I forgot that it was a little easie

You are right but if your bootroms are later than 10.x they then contain the boot load helper which does all those manual steps John listed for you. In which case you need only set you default-gateway and then do the "copy tftp flash" If under the sh ver the bootroms are listed as 4.1.x or 5.1.x
