[newbie] Mandrake 7.1 DHCP problem, pleeeease help!

ok, i just installed mandrake 7.1 and have chosen to use DHCP.I have tried it both manually and via the netconf gui.  The system DOES detect my NIC which is a 3com etherIII 3c509...I chose to use DHCP, and dhcpd is run, i see the link light light up on my switch as it polls my sonicwall poo

I can give you a quick answer from experience, alone! Level 1 is Low: Loose as a goose and freedom to roam almost anywhere without root privileges. There are no security checks. Your system can be used as a "Gaming-Only" computer at this setting because with few programs set up doing security/sys

Here is what I did: Go to the Linux-Mandrake site. Look for the link to HardDrake (LHS under the curly-haired penguin). Download the 3 detect-xxx files and HardDrake. You will also need to go to the LM RPM's and get the alsa RPM. Install all of the above as root - these are all newer than the one

My opinion of Mandrake 7.1 is that alot of the applications/services are just to buggy and not thoroughly tested before release. I would suggest if you like Mandrake to get a copy of 7.02 and alot of problems will go away. Perhaps 7.2 will address these bugs without creating even more. John ___
