Thanks for the update, Mike. Please keep up informed if you hear anything more.

I’ll do the same.

Yes. It is containerized in Docker. Whatever that means. And it is supposed to
be available on AWS now with Azure and others in the future.

Ok. How about a few install instructions. Screenshots? Documentation? Anything
at all on their website that’s not from the marketing department.

Oh, and myit has now (in the grand bmc tradition) been renamed to DWP (Digital

Yep. Saw that. Talked to Peter and the gang at the DC BMC Exchange in May and
they said similar things.

But where is it? I want to do one not talk about it. I have my AWS account all
ready to go. I want to deploy today. I don’t see any instructions on how to do
it.

Also, that’s me asking the last question on that page about actually deploying
it. No answer.

I am supposed to be looking into this Helix on AWS thing. However, other than a
bunch of marketing stuff and youtube commercials, I can’t find hide nor hair of
it.

Does anyone know anything about it? Any documentation at all? Its does not
appear in the BMC Support site drop downs, there is really nothing on
communities (links back to the marketing page), and when you click on the
“Contact BMC Sales” button on the marketing site, the Product Interest menu
drop down doesn’t list it either.

It was supposed to have been released in… May? It is now July and I can’t find
it.

Re: 9.1.04 Upgrade freezes without error

2017-12-17 Thread Scott Philben
I’ve had a lot of problems getting the AR System server service on Windows to
restart during installs and upgrades. Check to see if it is running. Sometimes
you can just start it manually and it will continue. Sometimes not.

Otherwise, in order to get our upgrade working from 7.6.04 —> 9.00.01 we have
to stop off at 8.1 first. So I ran that installer, then ran the 9.0 installer.
Why? No idea. BMC recommended it.

Re: [Non-DoD Source] Need input on Delta load - Spoon client

2017-08-28 Thread Scott Philben

I am in the middle of this. Here is what I did (based on a thing I found on
Communities). You have to set a checksum value in the data stream the first
time you call AD. Then the second time you can do a DB call to the table you
are using (I have a staging form) and filter out the ones that already exist
based on that same checksum value. If there is no checksum difference, it gets
passed to Dummy, otherwise it goes through to the AROutput step.

Not quite done with testing it, but it seems to be doing what I need.

On Aug 28, 2017, at 02:37 PM, Joe D'Souza wrote:

There is something funky about the AR API that is used by Pentaho Spoon. If I
recall correctly, the $OPERATION$ value at the time of create as well as update
is CREATE. Something funky like that. I do not recall specifics, but you could
try a small experiment to ascertain this for yourself.

Create a filter on Remedy that writes to a temp field the $OPERATION$ value.
You will notice that irrespective of the type of operation, the $OPERATION$
value is always CREATE.

So in effect it appears like Pentaho really does not know the difference. I
didn’t have the opportunity to look deeper into this at the time I was working
on a Spoon job recently, but it appeared to me like it processes all records
irrespective during a execution.. Thankfully since Pentaho does a massive
update using a data pipe that can be sized appropriately according to the
expected size of the feeds, performance is not really that much of a concern if
you have your JVMs configured correctly.

One way to process only the delta from the AR side would be to have Pentaho
work on a staging form instead of the load form, and then have similar workflow
like the load form to check for duplicates on both the People and the Load form
and process only those records that do not get tagged as a duplicate on either
the load nor the people form.

Hi Ryan,

Yes, i am passing.. My scenario is like in a day if i process 100 records it
successfully creates people record. But the next day it should not consider the
same old records unless if it is not updated at LDAP side. How i can achieve
this?

Hi team,

I am trying to achieve the LDAP People Integration. I can able to pull people
records from LDAP server to BMC staging i.e CTM:LoadPeople form. However, not
getting how to achieve the delta load.

If anybody has done, please let me know.

Thanks. But all we want is for someone to go to the Portal, click something and

This Bomgar thing seems to be more about the Tier 2+ getting access to the

You can actually install Windows Server 2012 without a GUI. So the headless
sever sits there as a email or AD box, I guess and you manage it from a
different server.

He is asking if you can install Remedy on such a server (with no interface).

Never tried. Has anyone?

Re: Remedy 9.0.01 Installation failed

2016-03-24 Thread Scott Philben
Was this an upgrade on new hardware? If so, you will have to license it before
your start. We installed 7.6.04 on a new box, swapped out the database with the
existing DB, licensed it on the new server, and then ran the 8.0 upgrader. BMC
recommended doing that one first then moving on to 9.0.01 upgrader.

Try that.

Re: Why are so many on 7.6.4?

2016-02-19 Thread Scott Philben
Our 7.6.04 upgrade was relatively painful and took a large amount of time and
effort. So we got lazy and didn't want to do it again any time soon. Now we are
getting a new environment to work out of so we decided it was time to go
through the exercise again. The users weren't clamoring for anything new. But
once they saw that 9.0 had the same interface (no, we won't be going to
SmartIT/MyIT any time soon) they gave their blessings.

Now we see just what a lot of work it is tying in all the stuff that has
changed and have decided that once this one is complete we will be immediately
working on the next one. Make it more of a scheduled thing (yearly? Twice
yearly?) just so it is not such a large bite each time.

I get the 0 MB thing almost every time I have a new server with the TEMP
environment variable set to the USER directory on C:

So I go into the System Properties and reset the TEMP and TMP variables to
D:\temp (after creating D:\temp). Then log out and log back in and try the
installer again.

Thanks Sandra,

I did this and have plenty of space on my C drive (over 4GB) and on my D drive
(where I'm installing to - which is about 30GB of space). It's so weird. My
other server is pretty much identical to this one and it's upgrading just fine.
At the Install/Upgrade selection panel it says:

You have 0MB of space available on the current drive (which is my D drive).

Strange.

Where is it finding that I only have 0MB of free disk space?

reported 120 at the end of last Monday. As of this exact moment, there
are
only 102 active sessions, 41 are Remedy related, 11 by non BMCers, and
4 are
        technical.

So, the numbers are shifting a bitbut my topic isn't in that list
yet, but
it titled 'Remedy Java API – Basic Components' where I plan on
discussing
how the API is structured, how the objects relate to what you see in
Remedy
Dev Studio as well as Mid-Tier, and how to manipulate your Remedy
system
through the API to get the best out of it. :)...

I'm hopeful at this point that Engage is morphing into something a bit
more
acceptable to the many technical resources we have here on the list.

Looking through the sessions, I see there are 120 sessions total. 46
are
'Remedy' related, that's ITSM or ROD (38%) in some way or another. Of
those
only 12 are not being done by BMCers (10%). 4 of those are listed as
'Technical' (3%). All 4 of them are directly related to ITSM (3 SRM, 1
CMDB).
Nothing that's directly related to Remedy as a development platform,
but as a
platform to sell their OOTB toolspart of me is disappointed, but
not

Both of the topics I submitted were of a technical nature, relating to
Remedy,
not ITSM...so, I guess that's likely why neither topic was selected for
        presentation

and due due to the fact that I was counting on not paying the
admission fees,
I'm not going to be able to justify the expense to attend this
year...so...maybe I'll do them anyway, but post them on my site
instead so
everyone can benefit instead of just the ones that attend Engage...who

I'm not sure I could get to 5-6. 3-4 maybe. What would I do with the rest of my
time?

When I heard this was happening, I was excited. BMC was running it! The real
insiders! There would be more discussions on the other BMC tools! All the good
stuff all in one place! Adventure and excitement!

Now that I have seen the agenda, it's all about meh... Where are the technical discussions for us
who don't need hand holding and the New Remedy User Experience? Where are the
ways to use Remedy that you never thought of? How about Misi and seeing how he
integrates things with Remedy? Where are the little customers and big customers explaining how they
do things with Remedy?

This sounds like a lot of Marketing types there to sell me stuff.

And stop pushing The Cloud!

I've not been able to get to many of these since I left the University of

BMC, you really need to start listening to this group.  They are some of your
Remedy products biggest fans.  We can can be a bit of handful sometimes, but we're
worth it!  Stop treating this as a way to just sell your products.  We've already
bought into that.  Instead, think about how YOU can help US to better leverage

I can add my vote for rrrchive as well. During our drawn out upgrade to 7.6.04, it ran from PROD to UPGRADE all day and night (using Windows batch files) keeping everything in sync until we were ready to go live. Then all we did was shut everyone out of PROD, run the sync one more time, and point the network to the new servers (there were a few minor updates to some forms with server references but it was relatively smooth). We still use it even now to continuously update our archive/reporting server through Windows batch files and scheduling. Can't say enough good things about it.Thanks, Misi.On Jan 15, 2014, at 08:35 AM, Chad Wilhelm chad.wilh...@caretech.com wrote:We use RRR Chive. We are currently running Remedy 7.6 P003 with ITSM 7.6 and SRM 7.6.The new environment has been setup and configured and is working perfectly and we now come to the task of migrating the data from ITSM 7.6 to the new ITSM 8 environment. For now, we are focusing on the foundation data as that is the most important part and I was wondering how everyone who has done this upgrade has managed to move their data over.I was looking at using the spreadsheets, however it is alot of admin work and with any data updates or changes on our currently live 7.6 environment, we would need to make sure that we apply those updates to the version 8 environment.Ideally, we would like a automated solution / scripted solution that we can run which would update the data and keep the new environment in sync.It was suggested by another developer that we look at possibly using the Atrium Integration Spoon application to do this data migration and that we create a transformation job which we can re-run etc.Has anyone done this before? If not, would you please share how your company / project was able to migrate their data?Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.ThanksBrad_ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are" and have been for 20 years_ _ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are" and have been for 20 years__ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are" and have been for 20 years__ARSlist: "Where the Answers Are" and have been for 20 years_

Object list information?

In the user tool, when you open the object list and see the list of forms, you do not see the form name (in some cases) but the alias value in the Name column. So when you search on the form name (HPD:Help Desk) it does not come up. You have to scroll down to see the alias name (Incidents)Where is that alias data stored in the database? The arschema table does not have it.Thanks.

The forms sheet specifies these labels. The alias name depends on the locale and the view, so it is held in each VUI’s properties - which themselves are a list of integer identifiers and values. Deriving the correct VUI is not easy as well as the VUI name is itself a property and the key is the VUI id. When you get the schema info, you get a “Default VUI Name”. You then get data from all VUIs associated with the form. Finally, you look for a Name property matching the default VUI name (AR_DPROP_LABEL) and in the locale you want. That’s the VUI you want.In that VUI, you look for properties such as AR_DPROP_ALIAS_SINGULAR, AR_DPROP_ALIAS_PLURAL, AR_DPROP_ALIAS_SHORT_SINGULAR, AR_DPROP_ALIAS_SHORT_PLURALRemember that these properties are a list of integers and values. In the database they will be a sequence of characters with one or two different separators (between the property integer and value and between properties in the list and possibly some lengths. Slow Response Time on Inventory Location Form

2012-08-10 Thread Scott Philben
ENV:
ARS 7.5
CMDB 7.6 patch 002
ITSM 7.6 patch 001
WinServer 2008 R2
SQL Server 2008 R2

BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement has 3,012,967 rows
BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseRelationship has 416,512 rows

Some users are complaning that when they access the Inventory Location form it
can take up to a minute or more to show the data. I think the problem is the
CIs in Inventory table on the CIs in Inventory Tab. It is refreshing from the
AST:SearchFromBase_Relationship form which is a join on
AST:SearchFromBase_Relationship1 and SHR:SchemaNames.
AST:SearchFromBase_Relationship1 is a join betweeen
BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseRelationship and BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement.

The SQL code that is creating the problem appears to be:

SELECT TOP 11
T914.C1,C21000,C20020,C490009100,C400128900,C490009000,C490021100,C20003,C20004,C20005,C11,C240001002,C240001005
 FROM T914 WHERE ((T914.C490008000 = 'AS02004C4F4F503_ytTgIjsRAANTQA') AND
(T914.C300420800 != 'AS02004C4F4F503_ytTgIjsRAANTQA') AND ((T914.C160 = ' ') OR
((' ' = ' ') AND (T914.C160 IS NULL ORDER BY 1 ASC

T914 is AST:SearchFromBase_Relationship

Has anyone had (or currently have) a similar problem that they have fixed? I
tried using SQL Manager to check the code execution and it wasn't really much
help. I added one index to BaseElement but the decrease in time was minimal.

Scrolling though the records on this form is torture unless there are no
entries in the CIs in Inventory table.

Thanks.

Mass delete of Product Catalog

2012-07-09 Thread Scott Philben
ARS 7.5 p008
ITSM 7.6 p001

Due to the Product Catalog being used incorrectly for a long time, we are now
in the position of having to clean it up. One way to go about this would be to
delete everything in it and import corret data to refill it.

My question is about the deleting part. While there is a button on Product
Catalog Console labled Delete, I want to know of there is a way to clean
everything out more quickly. We have a lot of junk in this form and I don't
want to miss anything.

Would going to to the underlying forms (PCT:ProductCompanyAssociation,
PCT:Product Alias, PCT:Product Catalog, PCT:ModelVersion Patch, and
PCT:ProductCompanyAssociation) and deleting everything work? We would then use
the Data Import tool to put the correct data back in.

Anyone ever have to do this?

Thanks.

Re: PDICT -- Abydos -- installer problems

2012-07-03 Thread Scott Philben
I am having similar issues in that the installer (C:\Software Install\Process
Designer 8.3.02\ProcessDesignerInstallAndConfig_8.3.02\PDICT\setup.exe) runs,
it puts an icon on my desktop and then stops. The icon points to:

C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Process Designer 8\Integration and Configuration
Tool\

but there is nothing executable in that directory, just a jar file and the lib
and Resources directories.

So then I ran the C:\Software
Install\ProcessDesignerServer_8.3.02\Server\setup.exe and that seemed to have
done something (it even put some entries in my ar.cfg file).

Not really sure what to do with it, however.

Maybe I am just not cut out for this Process Designer stuff.

I'll bet the next version gets rid of all these problems.

Re: Trying not to Merge a whole dataset?

I have two datasets (A and B). I want to merge all of dataset A to BMC.ASSET

I ran a relationship job that created HOSTEDSYSTEMCOMPONENT entries and
filled in the SystemName field on B. Can I use that field now to restrict the
 merge on B?

I tried setting up a merge job on B with one activity: merge source B to
BMC.ASSET using the Default Merge Set. I then added a qualification on the
class with 'SystemName' != $\NULL$ in the Qualification* field.

When I run the job nothing happens. No records get copied to BMC.ASSET.

Can I even do something like I am trying to do? Can I restrict a dataset
merge in this way? Or do I have to merge everything?

 Thanks.

Does this make sense? I am using CMDB 7.6 to try and do the following with
 two datasets.

 Dataset A has 100 CIs
 Dataset B has 1000 CIs

Some of the CIs in Dataset B are related to some of the CIs in Dataset A

I want to merge all the CIs in A and the related CIs in B but not the
unrelated ones in B (don't care about them at this point). I have a lot of
unrelateds and I don't want to waste time processing them.

So I think I am supposed to do the following:

 1. Import Dataset A and Dataset B into the CMDB
 2. ID Datasets A and B (this is new data so create ReconconciliationID)
 3. Relate the relevant CIs in datasets A and B (records created in
 HostedSystemComponents)
 4. Merge the CIs in Dataset A to BMC.ASSET, and include the Child CIs I
already related using the Related CIs in separate transactions option on
 the Merge action.

Step 4 is where it breaks down. When I run the Merge job it copies Dataset A
CIs to BMC.ASSET but not the related Children.

Am I doing it wrong? Or is what I am trying to do not possible? If you look
at page 98 of the BMC Atrium 7.6.00 Normalization and Reconciliaton Guide
it seems to imply that you can merge more than one thing at the same time:

Merges instances specified by the attached Qualification Set, destination
CIs in weak relationships with those instances, and the relationships
 themselves.

This option treats composite objects as one entity. For example, if your
Qualification set selects a computer system instance, it and its components
would all be merged. The individual CIs and relationships are merged in
 separate database transactions.

Do I have to use a Qualification if I want all the CIs in Dataset A?

If anyone has any insights, please let me know.

 Thanks.

have you turned on the logs on the mid tier to see if they are producing

Anyone ever add a custom app to the Overview Console?

2010-01-26 Thread Scott Philben
I have seen some posts on this area but thought I would revisit the topic.

ARS 7.5 patch 002
ITSM 7.5.02

When I started this project I thought what I wanted would be a simple addition
to something like the old SHR:ConsilidatedList. But it turns out that BMC have
made things more complicated than need be (again) and the idea that I could
easily add a custom app to the Overview Console is running into reality.

All I want to do is let my users see the open tickets they have in both ITSM
apps as well as a custom app in one place. So I started poking around in the
Overview Console and found the following:

The SHR:OverviewConsole form points to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole (a vendor
form) which in turn seems to use SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate which uses
SHR:ARDBCFields to map to your app.

Based on some stuff I found floating around the web, I added my Application
form and App name to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate. This accomplished, I
then mapped a few fields from my App to the fields on SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole
using entries in SHR:ARDBCFields. Thinking myself done, I restarted the plugin
server (these forms are hooked together via Vendor forms... whodathunkit?) and
then opened the Overview Console. I got SQL errors. Specifically:

ARERR [522] Error: ARGetListEntryWithFields - Failure during SQL operation to
the database.

So, obviously I am missing something. I opened a ticket with BMC to see if
there was a documented way to do this (there must be, right? They do it!) and
was told in so many words to pound sand. They don't do customizations help.

So for anyone else out there in a similar predicament, is there a way to do
this that you would be willing to share?

Thanks for your time.

Adding an Incident field to SRM

2009-04-06 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
All:

SRM 2.2 patch 002
ITSM 7.3 patch 009

I recently was tasked to add an Asset Tag field to SRM that would ask the
User for his Asset Tag and then pass the data to the Incident and create a
relationship to the affected asset (if there is one) on the Relationships Tab.
I was able to use some temporary display only fields to do the work (since I
didn't want to add any fields to the form) on the HPD:Help Desk form (plus a
couple of filters) but when I tried to create a field in SRM to capture the
data and pass it on to Incident, I got nothing but errors (ARERR 311 to be
exact). So I worked with BMC to find out why. It turns out that not only do you
have to configure SRM to use a specific field on the Incident form, which is
fairly not straightforward, you have to update the HPD:Help Desk staging form
(which sits between SRM and HPD:Help Desk) and update a Filter that pushes the
staging form data to Incident.

Needless to say, none of this is documented. And (shocker!) BMC doesn't even
follow its own recommendations when it comes to staging forms or filter
creation (they have the Matching IDs option for a reason).

So, to make it less painful for the next person, I wrote it all up in a little
document which I would like to attach to this post. But I can't. So if anyone
else out there would like a copy of the Word doc, let me know.

SRM and Reopening Inicdents

2009-04-03 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
All:

I have SRM 2.2 patch 002 and I have an existing Request which created an
Incident. When the Support Person Resolves the Incident, a Survey request is
created for the User. When the User fills in the Survey and selects the Reopen
the Service Request option shouldn't the system reopen the Service Request as
well as the related Incident?

Right now it does not appear to. And reading the Admin guide for SRM I see this:

If a service request is reopened, SRM does not reopen the original back-office
requests that were part of the request fulfillment process. Instead, SRM
creates a
new work order.

What? I am not even using Work Orders! I want the Incident to be reopened! Does
this sound right? Has anyone else tried this?

Re: SRM and Reopening Inicdents -- SOLVED

2009-04-03 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
Looks like I found the answer on BMC's website:

Problem 20005347

Please refer to the updated Service Request Management 2.2.00 Release Notes
page 16. These release notes were refreshed on the support web site, so be sure
to have the most recent copy.

Defect SW00261294

When working on the back-end requests created from a service request, you
cannot reopen these requests (for example, an incident or a change) after they
have been closed.
Users can reopen a service request, but SRM has no process to handle situations
when users reopen records from the back-end applications that are tied to the
service request.

This also means that when the Service Request is reopened, it creates a Work
Order and does not reopen the Incident

Huh? This is just shoddy work. If you give the user the ability to Reopen
something, that ability should include all of the somethings that were
previously opened. Having some stupid workaround involving Work Orders is not
acceptable.

Now I have to spend my time figuring out how to do it the right way.

Creating and Emailing a Multi-Record Report

2009-02-25 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
ARS - 7.1 patch 006
ITSM 7.0.3

I have an escalation that runs in the morning to notify Incident Assignees that
their tickets have not been modified in the last 7 days if the Modified Date is
older than 7 days and the Status Resolved.

This works fine. A separate email gets sent to each assignee for each ticket.
Now the bosses want to be notified as well. What is the best way to create and
send a compilation report of all the users to one person. I have looked at
making templates or pushing data to the email messages form but all of the
examples (4-24 on page 100) seem to show how to send out a single record email.
Will the Qualification field in the Variable Replacement tab accept a
qualification that returns more than one record? I assume at that point I need
to feed it into a Content template. Will the template have a problem?

Of course, with the email gateway down at the moment I am having a hard time
testing this. But if anyone knows it works and can let me know, I won't be
wasting my time when email comes back up.

Thanks.

SRM installation issue

2008-11-19 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
Listers:

I just finished installing SRM 2.2 p1 on an ARS 7.1 p8 server. I followed the
instructions in the Configuration Guide (page 28 - 29) to set up the Mid Tier
so that I could view Service Categories in the Data Visualization Field (DVF).
Everything works fine, I can see data in the DVF field on the Request Entry
form but I cannot see the little graphical pictures that go with the Service
Categories. All I see is a little square with a red X in it (in IE) or a
broken file icon (in Firefox).

Anyone else see this? I have the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) listed
everywhere in the Remedy app that the configuration guide called for (which I
though strange since I haven't used the FQDN up to this point in Remedy) but it
doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Anyone using ARS 7.1 p4 aradmin CLI?

2008-08-12 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
I am trying to use the Command Line Interface on ARS 7.1 patch 4 but when I run
it, all I get is the Admin tool opening up looking for a login and password
(which is not what I want).

I am using the following command in a Windows batch file:

C:\Program Files\AR System\Admin\aradmin.exe -U Demo -p -x SERVERNAME
-portnum -e 20080812.activelinkguides.def -G -o 20080812.activelinkguides.log

It has worked with 6.3 in the past but doesn't work at all now.

I am really trying to set up an automated way to export all the workflow types
each day/week/whenever on our development server so that we have a record of
any changes and can drop back if we mess something up or delete something.

Anyone at all using the aradmin tool this way?

Two Instances on the Same Oracle Server

We have two unix applications servers (Solaris, ARS 6.3, Oracle 9i) that we

Does this sound feasible?

For anyone using the aradmin.exe command

2008-03-07 Thread Scott Philben
We found out an interesting bit of information yesterday about the command line
uasge of the aradmin.exe command. On page 557 of the 6.3 Advanced book Remedy
claims the following:

To parse an XML packing list, and export all the objects defined in that
packing list, use the following command format:

aradmin -u user_name [-p password] -x server_name -e target_file -l
packing_list.xml

Well, when we tried to use that command to dump out a packing list worth of
stuff nothing seemed to happen. So I opened an Incident with BMC and come to
find out that the XML packing list thing does not appear to work in any
environment that they can find. I think this is kind of odd since I believe
that this option has been available since at least 5.1.2. I might be wrong.

So anyway, don't try to dump stuff out of your system via an XML packing list
file (not that you wanted to anyway since I can't find any reference of anyone
else in history having the same problem and posting about it on the interwebs).

Re: For anyone using the aradmin.exe command

2008-03-07 Thread Scott Philben
Yeah, we actually tried this little task with both a def file and an XML file
created in the Admin tool from a packing list. No dice on either. It did work
when I referenced a non-existent file at one point... But that just took a long
time and then gave me a definition file with everything from the server in it
(175+ MB)

I would also like to see a right click on a workflow object with some sort of
Send to Packing List option so I can quickly dump new things into my Packing
List without having to actually open an existing Packing List.

dumb I think this feature is, but they appear to not share my concern
for it.
/warning

In the admin tool open the packing list of interest.
Go to the Packing List menu and select Generate XML.

You need to use this XML file as the input to the admin tool command
line. NOT an ARS def file (in xml format). [ The def file does not
work, but it is what most people think should work. Most people do not
ever look at the Packing List menu because it only shows up when you
open a packing list , and the terminology is just XML file instead
of the special file generated from the menu of the packing list
object via the admin tool.]

My two cents

I should be able to mention the NAME of the packing list and not have
any cached copy of it before the command line is called.

And in my dream world... I can use a packlist as defined on a
different ARS server too. ( Yes that means that I may need to pass in
two usersnames and passwords, but I am ok with that. )

So ... Picture this...

dreaming
Create a packing list on your Dev server.
From the command line export those objects from Production.
Import them to your Test server.
Then import your Dev objects (presumably different from Production) to
your Test server.

You now have a way to maintain one list, on dev, of objects that are
in a release and a way to use that list to normalize your Test
server.

Alert 7.1.00 Patch 001 5 minutes
JDK 1.5_0_13 5 minutes
MidTier 7.1 (including Tomcat 5.5) Patch 0015 minutes

I also included the number of forms installed on the system once the
application install was complete and the time it took for that app to run.

All the ARS stuff at the top of the list took about 1 day and the rest took
approximately three days.

We have two Sun v480 servers with Solaris 9 and Oracle 10g for the app and
database and some sort of medium sized Dell servers for the MidTier.

The downloaded files and documents came out to 6.1GB.

The install (despite being long) went surprisingly smoothly with no obvious
errors or problems. Hats off to the development boys and girls at BMC!

Oh, and licensing couldn't be easier.

Caught Exception: Object Required Patch 20

2007-02-28 Thread Scott Philben
I sent the following to BMC support (why won't the website work with IE
6.02?) but I thought I would paste it here as well to see if anyone had any
other advice. I have seen the subject come up but didn't know if there was a
good fix yet.

==

Environment:

MidTier:
MS Windows Server 2003 SP1
Java 1.4.2_06-b03
MidTier 6.3 Patch 20

Server:
AR system version 6.3 patch 20
SunOS 5.9

DB:
Oracle 9.2.0.6

After an upgrade of our ARS server and midtier from 6.3 patch 14 to 6.3
patch 20, we now see a Caught Exception: Object Required error whenever we
try to login via the MidTier. This actually showed first after we had updated
the server and before the midtier but an upgrade of the midtier did not fix
the problem.

After clicking OK on the error message (or whatever it is) the Home Page
only half displays (nothing shows in the application list) and you need to
manually type in a URL to get to other pages. The other pages (Help Desk,
etc) seem to work fine (we are testing at this time).

Any ideas, anyone?

When I click on OK, I get a big blank middle of the screen with the menu bar
down the side. And

Now over on Firefox 2.0.0.2, I get a nice big box on the Knowledge Base page
asking me to Search Knowledge Base. But when I put something in the
Keyword(s) field and click on Search, I get a performing search page and
then a giant Caught exception error box that kills the whole deal.

I sometimes wish I could search on the knowledge base. It is like looking in
the window at the candy store and watching all the other lucky kids getting

BMC Remedy Support Site Problems

2007-01-11 Thread Scott Philben
Has anyone ever tried to search the knowledge base on the BMC Remedy support

I am using Firefox 1.5.0.9 so that may be the issue.

Secondly. When I decided to switch to IE to try again. I was informed by the
site that I was logged in from a different computer.

Doh! I didn't think that would matter but I logged out of Firefox anyway and
tried again.

No Dice. I guess I have to wait for my license to time out.

Interestingly, when I was redirected to the:

ARERR [9084]

page, I noticed that it still bore the square Remedy R logo and the familiar

Active Link Push and Virtual Machine Problem

2007-01-10 Thread Scott Philben
All:

I have two AR Servers (6.3) which used to be on two physical machines. We have
moved them to one new Sun server with two Virtual Instances with two unique IP
addresses (I am not completely sure of the setup).

We are trying to set up a process where entering HR data (in a home built HR
form) on one machine pushes relevant data to the People and User forms (four
forms total) on the two AR Servers using Active Links and a Push Fields action.
On one set of actions I push to the local machine and on the other I push to
the remote machine. It works great in a two server environment. It does not
seem to work in a Virtual environment.

Whenever I select the remote server (the AR Server the Active Link is not on)
and save the Active Link, it switches back to the local server (@). I see
this in the Def file when I export it as well.

Has anyone run into this? I assume Remedy is getting confused in the virtual
environment and somehow thinks everything is local so it switches the Actions
back to the local server on save.

Thanks.
