[AsburyPark] Re: The Importance of Faith Based Organizations Providing Social Services

2007-09-10 Thread 2fine4u
Sorry Kevin.

If I were homeless and hungry, stopped in to your mission, I wouldn't
want to have to pray with you, when my beliefs are different and not
protestant, as you appear to be. Nothing against Protestants, mind
you. I just don't want to be forced to participate in your religion,
when everyone's tas dollars, provide YOU with the food to feed ME!

The government is WRONG, to support faith-based religion! Like RAM it
down my throat already! If I were an atheist, I'd be pissed!

As far as philanthrophy, my perception was that the money used was
your own! Hell, I'd be philanthropic too, if my Uncle Sam slid some
to me! 501C-3, huh? Sounds like a good racket to me!

Werner,
Glad that you are out of there. The Coaster and the Press, printed

someone. Tommy, there's something to be said for what you did; Thank
You, is what I'm trying to say. This was one in several strange

When you buck the status quo, they can have you locked up, shut down,

[AsburyPark] Re: Ocean Township considering suing Weldon for accepting bribes

2007-09-07 Thread 2fine4u
Officials are generally elected by the people. In the case of Asbury
Park, the City Manager is a hire, to conduct the business of the
Council, advise the council and make administrative decisions, for
the City, favorable to the residents, or so I thought. Is everyone
on the same page with that?

What bothers me, is the decision by the Council, in place at the time
Weldon was indicted, that CHOSE to award this man, over $67,000, a
little above what he took in bribes, that he was caught taking
and slapped the citizens of AP, in the face, when they did it.

For this action alone, the Council should have been impeached,
recalled, or driven out of office, for aiding and abetting a known
criminal! Just my honest assessment and tell me if any of these
decisions are illegal and if not, why not?

If it's legal, there's no oversight, for one and for two, they don't
care what we think! Maybe the FBI should investigate that action
alone and why rewarding a thief, for being a thief, is okay.

Only in Asbury Park, where corruption, is the norm, or so it seems.
It's no wonder, working the system to suit you is okay, but when it's
another group, they should burn in hell! There I go thinking,
again! The same was true, for Asbury United. They won in 1996 and I
thought the corruption aspect was over! I was wrong, as usual and
wondered if being corrupt was the norm here.

So now, what is the agenda? Who gets favored and who gets knocked
over? Guess what? It's US, as usual. I'd like to see Asbury
succeed and if we're lucky it will, but when the powers that be,
close down establishments that are winners, like the Wonder Bar,
close down Rita's store, that was successful, the 2 movie houses that
are left, with one's survival, in jeopardy, one bike shop owner is
shut down, for one whose in their favor gets opened, puzzles me.

Did I miss something? A home owner gets locked up and his ownership
is jeopardized, while earnest citizens are willing to help him, is
really puzzling and I wonder what kind of country am I living in,
because this one is a nightmare!

 COASTAL MONMOUTH BUREAU

OCEAN TOWNSHIP — The township is weighing the option of suing
former Mayor Terrance
 D. Weldon for violating his oath of office in accepting $64,000 in
bribes from developers.

We actually have a firm that has approached us about litigation
and we are considering
that,'' Mayor William F. Larkin said at a Township Council meeting
Wednesday night.
There is actually a firm that wants to represent us without cost.''

The law firm Franzblau Dratch of Livingston has successfully
represented Essex County in
a case that went to the state Supreme Court to affirm the right of
government entities in
seeking legal damages from corrupt officials. In that specific
litigation, Essex County sued
First Fidelity Bank because one of its corporate officers had
bribed former county treasurer
Joseph P. Galluzzi in steering municipal bond contracts to the bank.

Larkin made the revelation in responding to public criticism from
Larry S. Loigman, an
outspoken township resident and lawyer. He wanted to know why
township officials have
not expressed outrage at a federal judge's decision to sentence the
former mayor to 58
months in prison, which Loigman considers too lenient.

I was wondering who it was on behalf of the township that sent any
sort of request to the
judge for a more severe sentence?'' Loigman asked. Did
anyone? .‚.‚. Make any appearance
before the judge and advise the judge of the harm that that
despicable thief did to the
township, to the interests of the township, to the residents of the
township, to the
government of the township, to the employees of the township? Did
anyone make that
 representation to (the) judge?''

Loigman said the township ought to pursue Weldon in civil court for
defrauding the people
of Ocean Township in order to recoup financial damages, a case
Loigman himself had
pursued on his own in 2006 without success.

Lawyer Stephen N. Dratch said his firm still wants to help Ocean
Township and pointed to
the Essex County case, which set legal precedent in New Jersey.

We sued First Fidelity Bank on the grounds they should disgorge
the money regarding the
deals, it was ill-gotten gains,'' Dratch said.

Dratch said his firm first offered to represent Ocean Township
against Weldon in order to
recover the $64,000 he received in bribes a few years ago.

The firm offered to take the case on a contingency basis for one
third of whatever
judgment was awarded should the township prevail. However, after
some preliminary
meetings with former Township Manager David R. Kochel, Dratch said
the firm never heard
 from municipal officials again.

The offer still stands, he said.

I think we're a pretty good group. I've been involved for almost 3

Our Town!

I didn't appreciate the remarks made about this group, but I don't

all things Asbury Park!

We go off on a tangent, sometimes and it was always Werner, who threw
water on our faces and we got back to discussing redevelopment, the
schools, the council and whatever else is relevant HERE!

I really think Maureen should look into webcasting, because it's the
next new thing! The sound is remarkably good and Rev. Kev's visuals
were interesting too! Even has a phone in line!

Glenn, you're the greatest! Thanks!

so-called 4th Estate had been REPORTING the news, instead of BEING the

we'd be in better shape than we are.

There ARE people, who believe what they see on TV and in the print
media, which is why the STAR, is one of the largest newpapers on the
planet!

When an air-head like Hilton, is so attention depraved and Beyonce,
shaking, until I throw up, you laugh when

1. Hilton goes to jail and
2. Beyonce falls on that big A** of hers!

Is it news? Must be, cause it's ALL we hear and see. Someone is hell
bent on keeping us distracted and keeping the REAL news somewhere
else, which is why I belong to blogs and rely on my news ELSEWHERE!

My generation questioned authority. I haven't changed and those in
command, are hell bent on keeping me and a lot of others, quiet! Can
you spell, W-E-R-N-E-R? That's what I'm talking about!

The shadow government is at work! Don't know who the shadow is?
It's the REAL government, which is much like the KGB and MI-5! Think
I read too much? I don't read enough, but I know there is a silent
hand, that crushes truth to the ground; deaths that look like
suicides, people disappearing, air plane crashes and poisoning on a
grand scale, that is undetectable! Ask the guy who was poisened from

I didn't appreciate the remarks made about this group, but I don't

I did not lambast the group, I made a comment about priorities.

As for Maureen - I have asked her to consider joining the electric

concentrated on Long Branch. I have made a few overtures towards a
number of people, and could never figure out why no one wanted to

crazed, zealot that would make you both accept Jesus or conform to

I have gained a lot of ground in the video broadcasting medium, and
would like to enhance it for the Shore.

It was an opportunity without funding committments, because I own
everything necessary to produce the show.

So, let me revisit the issue once again. If there is anyone out
there who feels like they would want to come on board of the electric
news and co -anchor or do field reports call me or drop me an email.

Wasn't going to comment on Vick, but what's the difference between
Vick and Dick Cheney, on a controlled hunt, where he shot his friend
in the face and was with 2 women, neither of which, were their wives?
Mind you, I DON'T condone any of the activities going on, on his
property! I think Vick, whose relatives were staying there, are the
culprits in all this, ratted HIM, out, because it was on Vick's
property and Vick, is taking the slam for them! Rather than see his
relatives go to jail, they were lured into getting a deal from the
authorities that, if they delivered Vick, they'd get off, which is how
this probably worked!

What if Vick and his relatives went deer hunting, as many men do in
this region and bear hunting, too? Would any of you be so
judgemental? NONE of you know the REAL story! Vick IS a prominent
Black Football Player, that YOU probably think he doesn't deserve.
It's the OJ syndrome! 9 out of 10 of you think OJ did it! I don't,
but feel he knows who did! You weren't there, either! Judge lest ye
be judged, is an old adage.

Just as Sen. Craig called Clinton a naughty boy, hypocritically, WHO
is the naughty boy, now? Just an observation of how white America
thinks, when a prominent Black, is pre-judged. Remember, I don't
condone torturing ANY animals! Let the flames begin!

Edited for brevity:
Not playing the race card. You'd have a chip as long as the
boardwalk, if you were black, too! Following up. My son, 45, told
me that he knows all about Vick and company. He said Vick comes from
that environment, the gansta rappers, gangs, drugs, etc. When he
became a millionaire, the money didn't gain him, the sophistication,
needed, to behave, like someone with some sense! Said that Vick's
mother, is also notorious, entering the stadium wearing a jersey with
a full length mink coat, acting like a hoochie mama! Well! I
stand corrected for sounding like the church lady or Emily Litella,
of Saturday Night Live!

NEVER MIND! Apologies to all! Not too arrogant, to say I'm sorry!
My son, has always been aware of what goes on in the sports world,
having played that sport and is a NCAA Champion, when he ran track at
Stockton, in South Jersey. Reads Street and Smith and is a walking
statistician, on all sports! I normally don't engage him, because he
never stops talking, once he gets started!
Again, sorry!

[AsburyPark] Re: Ocean Grove meeting dominated by same sex marriage issue

2007-09-03 Thread 2fine4u
You've just described the Right-Winged Republican Agenda, while they
hypocritically point fingers at those they deem the enemy, bad
for America, Family Value-less, while these so-called straights,
fornicate their A$$es off! Same bunch that impeached Clinton, while
they were having affairs, while married, molesting pages, getting
kickbacks from lobbyists and calling themselves christians!

If Ocean Grove is part of Neptune, why is Randy Bishop, putting up
with this? He's Neptune's openly gay, Deputy Mayor and lives over
there! I really had thought OG, had come into the 21st Century!
Well, bring in the ACLU!

--- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Hinge [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I just got back from Ocean Grove, where I attended their annual

dominated by protest and comments about the issue of same sex
marriage in the
 boardwalk pavilion.
Frank Pallone Jr. was there arguing that the
association has received federal and state money for the boardwalk
and other
maintenance, and thus should follow the rules pertaining to other
public places.
What I hear is prejudice hiding behind bureacracy.
 Here's what kills me;
The Came Meeting Association will allow any straight couple to be
married there. So, if you
are straight, and lets say you've done things like rape, murder,
molest children, be
dishonest...any of the things that we all find reprehensible, and
you find Jesus, and
apologize...because you are straight, you are fine. Now, I'm not
saying that the straight
community is filled with horrible people. It isn't.
 But.
If you are gay, and you love the same God as the straight people,
and found the same
Jesus, no matter how else you've lived your life...you can't get
married there.
 Because you are gay.
 That's prejudice.
So, the most horrible staight person could get married there, but a
person who's only
crime in the eyes of the church is being gay will be rejected.
 Prejudice, plain and simple.
Not only that, but if you reduce this to the basic argument that
one kind of sex is fine, but
the other is a sin...then that is ridiculous. There is plenty of
crazy sex going on in the
straight world. But no, that's ok. I won't even go into the details
of this thought. Use you
 imagination.
The overwhelming feeling at the meeting was that very many people
feel like this fight has
caused Ocean Grove a great amount of damage.

[AsburyPark] Re: Prayer and Sacrifice

2007-09-03 Thread 2fine4u
Mario,
There are groups: Blue Star Mothers of America, a support group,
that councils spouses of their needs, financially and morally, The
USO, The American Legion Auxiliary, VFW and their Auxiliary, Gold
Star Mothers, Navy League and America Supports You, which is run by
the DoD. We are constantly gathering supplies, such as lotions,
soaps, baby wipes, razors and feminine hygiene products and snacks,
as Exchanges in Iraq and Afghanistan, are in constant need, for lack
of these items being readily available.

Not a victory garden, or bond purchases, as we had during WWII and
Viet Nam, but many people I know, still buy bonds through payroll
deductions. You are correct, that the families and the soldiers are
the ones suffering and being sacrificed, while those who have already
served, do help by sending care packages over every month, bearing
the costs, through donations. I purchased a case of hotel shampoos
for $10.00, from a thrift store. It was worth $40.00 and had over
200, 1-ounce bottles. That along with money donated to purchase all
of the other items, add up and are largely donated by retired
workers, like me. We then have sorting parties, to pack the items.
Over 50 cases a month are sent overseas, marked Any Soldier or
Female Soldier, when feminine hygiene products are sent. It may not
seem like much, but the letters and photos we receive, are worth it.

This group did a lot of good, when AP had its' Katrina Drive right
after the storm. I met many of the incredible people in this group
and those who know me, know that I'm eternally grateful! We come
through, when needed, but Bush Co., just don't know how this war is
going to affect citizens, for decades to come! It's a shame!

the rest of the terrorists in the world alone.

The President said we would go after all those involved in
international terrorists, everywhere in the world. He even famously
said, you are with us or with the terrorists.

Saddam Hussein was involved in International Terrorism, including
against the United States. He also harboured international
terroists. That's a good enough reason to take him out.

 - Abu Abbas was the leader of the group that hijacked the Achille
Lauro and killed American Leon Klinghoffer. Where'd we find him?
In Iraq when we invaded in 2003.

 - Abu Nidal was one of the world's more effective terrorists. He
killed people all over the world. It was he who planned to kill
Oliver North's family in Virginia (it was North's job to get him on
behalf of the US). Iraq allowed his group to be based there.
Where'd was he finally killed? Baghdad, 2002, HIS HOME.

 - al-Zarqawi tried to blow up hotels in the 1990's that he believed
were frequented by Americans. He became the al-Qeada leader in Iraq
in 2001 (you all remember al-qeada, and what they did on September
11, 2001, right?). Working from his Iraq base in 2002, he killed
Lawrence Foley, American diplomat to Jordan. He planned a NATO
attack from Iraq. It was he who beheaded American Nick Berg on
video. He fought against US soldiers in Afghanistan BEFORE we
invaded Iraq. In Iraq he killed thousands through bombing
campaigns, including US soliders. When he was injured he treated at
Saddam's state run hospital. We eventually killed him in IRAQ,
where Saddam allowed the AL-QEADA leader to operate.

 - Saddam Hussien paid the families of suicide bombers $25,000.00
each. He is estimated to have made more than $10 million in
payments. Figure out the number of bombers, multiply that by the
number of innocents the bombers blew up (including Americans in
Isreal) and that makes Saddam on awfully big player in Internation
 terrorism, including agaist Americans.

-Saddam's regime attempted the assassination of former President
 George H.W. Bush.

For those of you that think America should not have taken out this
international terrorts, who not only committed acts of terrorism
against he US and our people but harbored and paid those that did,
to I say, you are wrong. You must not want to fight terrorists, or
you just didn't know the facts. I'll let you pick one.

To anyone on this board that said our soldiers in Iraq died in vain,
shame on you. They died protecting you. How dare you dishonor your
 portectors.

Saddam told Valerie Plame's husband that the US will not have the
guts to see 10,000 soldiers die in the desert. He over-estimazted
the courage of some on this board by a great deal.

Good Bless the troops, our President and this great fight to defeat
terrorists all over the world, whether they were involved in 9/11 or
 just applauded it.

The words of those who sent those soldiers to that location at the
cost of their blood and limbs: Dick Cheney during an interview at the
conservative American Enterprise Institute in 1994Q: Do you think
the U.S., or U.N. forces, should have moved into Baghdad?
 A: No.

 Q: Why not?

A: Because if we'd gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone.
There wouldn't have been anybody else with us. There would have been
a U.S. occupation of Iraq. None of the Arab forces that were willing to
fight with us in Kuwait were willing to invade Iraq.

Once you got to Iraq and took it over, took down Saddam Hussein's
government, then what are you going to put in its place? That's a
very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central
government of Iraq, you could very easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq
fly off: part of it, the Syrians would like to have to the west, part of
it -- eastern Iraq -- the Iranians would like to claim, they fought over
it for eight years. In the north you've got the Kurds, and if the
Kurds spin loose and join with the Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten
 the territorial integrity of Turkey.

It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq.

The other thing was casualties. Everyone was impressed with the fact we
were able to do our job with as few casualties as we had. But for the
146 Americans killed in action, and for their families, it wasn't a
cheap war. And the question for the president, in terms of whether or
not we went on to Baghdad, took additional casualties in an effort to
get Saddam Hussein, was how many additional dead Americans is Saddam
worth? Our judgment was, not very many, and I think we got it right.

[AsburyPark] Re: Werner Jailed by AP Judge

2007-09-02 Thread 2fine4u
Thanks Frank! I found this report chilling! Does this incident
sound similar to someone else leaning on Freedom of Speech? Very
oppressive and MEAN-spirited, to throw him in jail, for what? Can
someone tell me? Terry Weldon, won't spend this much time, for all of
the bribes he's taken!

--- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, asburycheech [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wrote:

This is just another sad indication that the good ole boys
running this town will do anything (and I mean anything) to stop
people from expressing their opinions if they conflict with the
conventional wisdom. What's wrong with this picture: Terry Weldon
pleads guilty to bribe-taking five years ago, gets the council to buy
into the Fishman plan, resigns as city manager minutes later, finally
gets sentenced to 58 months, but the sentence is stayed until at least
next January. He has not spent one second in jail. He was forced by
our city council to accept a huge severance package, and continues to
suffer the receipt of a huge annual pension. On the other hand,
Werner goes to municipal court on Friday of Labor Day weekend, gets
sentenced to 45 days in county jail beginning immediately, cell phone
confiscated so that he is held virtually incommunicado until Saturday
morning, and can only make collect calls. If you think his real
offense was not fixing up his home to the satisfaction of the eyesore
police, you probably need a new prescription for those myopic
 rose-colored glasses.
This is justice, Asbury Park style, and the good old boys and
their flunkies on the council (and maybe even a couple on the school
 board) are probably celebrating today.
Werner may be a thorn in their side or a pain in their ass, but
this would be happening to no one else. It is persecution, plain and
 simple.
30 years ago there was a mass exodus of folks marching out of
Asbury Park and to neighboring towns, especially Ocean Township, whose
former Mayor until recently was, ironically, the aforementioned
Weldon. There are signs that another shift across the bridge to
Wanamassa is beginning. The good ole boys will probably say good
riddance, because they have known only power politics, cronyism,
nepotism, and corruption for generations. Many of their predecessors
escaped the pokey by succumbing to the conqueror worm. Unfortunately,
the longterm residents, especially the poor, have tolerated it; and a
few in that community have even participated in, and profited by it.
Considering the folks who are persecuting Werner, he should wear
this episode as a Thoreau-like badge of honor. That is small comfort,
however. Werner already has the distinction of having been fired by
Weldon as one of that felon's final acts of infamy.
I sincerely hope that the treatment meted out to Werner does not
have a chilling effect on those who are trying their best to make a
difference. Shoveling against the tide may be a labor too
debilitating, even on this glorious weekend.

[AsburyPark] Re: Rev. Kev,... Help Me Out

2007-09-02 Thread 2fine4u
Mario,
When all else fails, send in the Jesuits!

At the age of 12, I was baptized in the Spirit, or as Black
Catholics say, your BIG Communion, where you are slightly slapped on
the cheek, dying a symbolic death for Christ, then you kiss the
Bishop's ring! Bring back any memories?

Jesus, was the ultimate outsider! A Jewish man, probably, a
Palestinian, since he was born in Bethlehem, tried in Jerusalem and
cruicfied at Calvary. Accused by His own, due to ignorance, that He,
in fact, was the Messiah, but to fulfill the phrophacies, went to His
death, to save ALL of us.

Called The Greatest Story Ever Told, by those of us who believe in
Jesus's teaching, we often lose sight of the fact that no matter,
which form of Christianity, we aspire to, be it Roman Catholicism, to
Southern Baptist, we often forget we are Christians, or followers of
Christ. Jesus said, Love thy enemies!

Every morning, without fail, I light a candle, to curse the darkness
and do a series of prayers in Thanksgiving, for having awaken, once
more.

I say all that, to say this: It seems that Rev. Kev and those who
beat the drums of war, if you're so intent on supporting war, sign up
and justify your support! You don't have to display a flag in your
window, with a Gold Star, in the center!

You don't have to anguish over your lost loved ones or tend to a
Veteran, with lost limbs and those suffering mental problems, called
PTSD's. All of that My country right or wrong, is why so many
countries HATE us! If there were no Al-Quaida, we'd invent one! As
the crooks and liars, exit daily, from the Bush White House, amid
scandal, ask yourself, why? The reasons are obvious. Americans are
tired of war; endless war, endless fear and unrelenting grimness!

My generation has already PAID its' dues with Viet-Nam, another stupid
war, fought over nothing, from people, who never attacked US! Iraq
was NOT responsible for 9-11, the Saudis were! That's all, I have to say!

Actually, if you have a website, a business website etc, you should add
this VERY SIMPLE feature to your website.

Go to google maps, type in your address, get your map, click for your
html code, copy and paste to your website.

Takes all of about 2 minutes.

Nice, free feature of Google and fully functional - zoom, move, etc.

I saw the show and there was cake at the base. The animals were made
of gum paste or fondant. Not knocking what you said. Just thought
you should watch the show first! I was really impressed when I saw
it. Reminded me of cakes I had made for my kids. At their first
birthday, I had a similar cake made and the animals were plastic with
straws used, with a paper canopy. Very similar and no where near the
cost! When I moved to Jersey and had my last child, her cake came
from Friedman's in Belmar. Same cake, in fact! Buttercreme frosting
instead of fondant! I thought the cost was worth it, after seeing the
work, that went into making it. Just me, I guess. It took me back to
another time, when kids, actually listened to adults. Love you
anyway, man!

[AsburyPark] Re: Bid Rig:

2007-08-01 Thread 2fine4u
I can't understand why this is re-running. This is an also-ran
series, based on info, over 8 years old. What did City Manager, now
deceased, Wilbert Russell, have to so with anything? It wasn't until
T. Weldon, became City Manager, that Ocean Twp., became involved.
Photos shown, are deceiving, because 3 in the group printed, are dead,
for one! The king-pin, (Konvitz), the invisible hand, was found to be
unable to be prosecuted, due to age or dementia, 1 person mentioned,
has served his time and has moved on and it appears that elections are
coming up in the near future and throws a pall over anyone even
thinking about running, etc. Those already in the council, ought to
be careful, how and who they deal with and why. Is an invisible hand
moving the Press, to reprint this like it's new or something? The
only person to have benefitted from this scandal, is T. Weldon and is
still walking around and isn't going anywhere, it appears. The
articles printed, don't tell half of the truth, whatever THAT, is!
There's these articles and then there's the truth! Politics, is a
dirty business and the ones lambasting others, need to watch their
step, also, lest THEY rub someone the wrong way and get accused also.
Seems like all of those boards, (zoning/planning/etc.), are
vulnerable to being manipulated too! Caveat: Don't serve, unless you
can't be bought! If anyone in this town thinks they are untouchable,
think again! Many innocent people are investigated, unbeknownst,
because they happen to associate with certain people, groups, etc.
All I can say is, keep what you know, to yourself! Old news, IMHO!

It's an almost decent assessment, but the photos, definitely should be

IMHO! I saw a jewel, no, the Pearl, I envision, when I talk about AP!
I was impressed to no end, with all of the activity and beauty, I
surveyed. I am never one, to talk to strangers, and I found myself,
talking to anyone, who would listen! People were smiling, enjoying
the ocean, the boards; everything. I was happy as all get out and
sorry, I hadn't taken advantage of the beautiful place, we call home,

 1. Just some observations I've made recently. Reuters reports that
Wikipedia is now the top online news and information destination,

added about 20 million unique monthly visitors in the past year. In May,
Wikipedia had 46.8 million unique visitors, up 72 percent from June
2006, NetRatings said. Wikipedia also has finished on top of the news

Landmark Communications' Weather Channel site by an increasing margin --
topping out with a disparity of about 10 million visitors in May.

 2. As I understand it, the rank of results at Google is based on what

Is it just me or do the photos in this suggest a lot of negativity?
Crumbling, dilapidated, vacant these are all used in the captions

doesn't talk about a decline and, instead, focuses on redevelopment.
What are the views on this? The photos seem to suggest one point of view
(that Asbury Park's a piece of crap [pardon the French]) and the article
suggests another (Asbury Park: Getting' better every day). Thoughts? 12

I'm hoping (suggesting) that the powers that be* have some
content and images that more accurately reflect our progress at this

recently published many terrific images (E.g., Paramount Theater
renovations, the new Hobo's, parades, et al.) They show us in a more
positive light than what you'll see there now: the old
 Beirut-by-the-Sea stuff.

It is not very difficult to edit a Wikipedia article or comment on the
talk or discussion pages. Much easier, less time and effort than it took
to carry out this year's a fantastic Road Trip event.

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park Images at Wikipedia

2007-07-30 Thread 2fine4u
I am so glad to see the huge response! Taking my niece, down to the
boards, tomorrow or Wednesday; whichever day she decides to come down!
In any event, just who is supposed to maintain the City's website?
Is it a paid position? I used to get an email once a week, but
haven't received any in a while, until the July 4th weekend, then
nothing again! I really hated the picture of the old Howard Johnsons,
with the peeling paint, inside the eaves. I was crushed, because like
the Asbury Park De-Pressed, we're always given a less than stellar
image! Thanks to all who have contributed. Now if $850K can be spent
on a water park, which I think was over priced, why can't the City
sink $150K, to start installing some surveillance cameras? Are we
asking for too much? I am against Big Brother, but in common areas?
C'mon!

2007-07-29 Thread 2fine4u
Maureen:
Catching up! I'm only a week behind, reading these! Was gone for 3
days last week and it sure is hard, catching up. Patience, is
certainly a virtue! Sitting in the Salt Water, yesterday, you and
Tommy came up, as topics in the conversation. All good! If you are
indeed coming back on the air, please post when, for all of your fans!
Would love to hear your voice, on air, again! Your featured guests,
should be Tommy and Werner! How's that? Tommy, I was floored, when I
read that you were defending the poor guy, that, was being crucified,
by Belmar's mayor! Congratulations! You can defend me, any day! You
and Maureen are 2 of my favorite poster's, in this group, no matter,
that you may rub some, the wrong way. I admire the spunk, that you
and Maureen possess and I defend both of your rights, to do so, in a
free society. I say that, sort of tongue in cheek, considering,
surveillance of citizens, who've committed no wrong, that we know of.
On another subject, I was impressed at the improvements in the
boardwalk, the shops, the new beach furniture, volleyball playing,
sand sculptures, virtually a plethora, of things to do! I spoke to
two, gentleman, sitting in those white rocking chairs, outside of the
Asbury Experience, store, who told me, they dare not fall asleep, in
one, to be ticketed for the same! I said, WHAT? Silly me, a place
for leisure, cannot be slept upon, even if you're reading a book,
another relaxing gesture, that ALWAYS, lulls, my old A$$, to sleep!
What I enjoyed the most, was the diversity, I saw; young, old, gay,
straight, black, white, other, ALL enjoying a perfect, summer,
afternoon! What a feeling, sitting inside the old HoJo's and being
able to see the Wonder Bar to my right, the ocean, to my left! A
little bit of Heaven, right here, on earth! You had to be there!
Werner, you were mentioned too, as were many others, in this group.
The longer I'm in it, the more it almost feels like family and the
goofy things, families, do. Hey, I'm glad I found this place! Thanks!

Well, I hope this convinces people who said the station must've done
something wrong to get thrown off the air. No charges, folks! No
fines! Rewards? I'd sure say so. 1500 watts is a mighty nice peace
offering. I'd like to thank Congressman Frank Pallone and his staff
 for coming to our defense.
I'm afraid Allan may be right on one thing though - the hourly rate
may have to go up from $700/mo. to reimburse the station for the
equipment it'll need to adapt to the power increase.
I have to say, I've been truly inspired by the inquiries from fans
even now - some 9 months after we did our last show - asking us when
we're going back on. That's certainly encouragement for our sponsors -
  eh, Tommy?
I hope some benefactor(s) come(s) out to help the station make the
transition - a supporter of free speech. It's funny, I think people
have had a chance to realize over these months that even though they
may not have agreed with all the opinions expressed, we all need the
opportunity to voice them. Open dialogue is vital to a free society.
I'll admit that doing the show was a huge drain on my time - and as
a freelance journalist every minute you don't work is $$$ lost -- but
I almost feel obligated to resume, to use or lose this priviledge
that is ours. The media seems to be less and less in touch with the
real world; and more and more censored each day.
Now, if I could just meet a really well-off guy who doesn't mind
having a partner who spends most nights at meetings, has her head in
a computer monitor most of the time, gets calls at all hours, hate
 mail...
Let me know if you meet anybody -

Why is it that every bit of recreation that is created for ap's
youth you guys pick the hell out it. You complain if someone talks
about establishing basketball camps and various other types of
recreation. You complain about this water park. This city of Asbury
for the past couple of years has had limited recreation for the
children of Asbury Park. Had this recreation been in place for the
past couple of years it could have possibly been a deterrent and
possibly would have prevented some of these 17 and 19 years that are
now stabbing, shooting and murdering each other in the streets of
Asbury Park right now from getting involved in gangs and criminal
 mischief.

When you gentlemen grew up I'm sure your parents kept you busy
doing various things whether it was bible school, recreation, summer
camp or possibly you were lucky enough to get a ceta job and work for
 the summer.

What we need to do is stop and go back to the old ways of doing
things which could still work in this day and age with some
adjustments. A busy child has no time to get into mischief.

We still have children in Asbury Park that we can save and we
should do everything possible to try and save these children. The
definition of we is (Parents,Grandparen ts, Aunts, Uncles, Teachers,
Principals, Guidance Counselors-- -do we still have them in AP school
system, Neighbors, Friends, Concerned citizens, politicians and the
last resort should be the Police).

Now that we already have a water park why don't you suggest loading
those same children up and taking them to a museum, or a zoo, art
museum or on a educational venture. How about donating your time for
a couple of years instead of getting the $800,000.

I am sure the water park could have been installed at a cheaper
price, but now that it's here let's research the next recreation
project for the children of AP and if you gentlemen would volunteer
your services it will not cost as much to get it done.

It is time to retire the horse's butt.

After 30 years — including almost a decade of rivalry between the
governing bodies of Long Branch and West Long Branch — the
Anthony Putt-Putt Petillo National Bocce Tournament is fading into
 the sunset.

The tournament, which began in 1977 in Asbury Park, is
saying arrivederci, announced organizer Sal Caliendo of Neptune
City, who added never say never about a reprieve in a written
history of the Shore tradition. Caliendo still will organize mini

The celebrity teams will be comprised of officials from Asbury Park,
Belmar, Long Branch and Neptune City, among others.

It has been two years since officials from Long Branch played
officials from West Long Branch, eight years of matches made
resonant because the then-mayor of West Long Branch, Paul Zambrano

The losers would carry home reproductions of a horse's butt.

But both men have since resigned their respective positions after
being caught in a corruption sting and await sentencing to prison

Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider said the city challenged West Long

played Neptune City instead but the magic of the rivalry was gone,
said Long Branch City Councilman Anthony Giordano.

In office for more than 13 years, he said nothing resonated with
residents more than the annual bocce matches. Even he is at a loss
 to explain why.

Giordano said it was an event that brought people together — rooting
for the home team — no matter where on the political spectrum
viewers fell the rest of the year.

I loved it, said Schneider. It was always a good time. People
wrote nice things about us, and that doesn't happen very often.
There was always more coverage about the tournament than anything
 else we did.

Those were great times, agreed Giordano.

Year-round, as I talked to people throughout Monmouth County,
people used to get a kick out of them, Giordano said of the rivalry
games. The years we lost, it was brutal around here for weeks. We
used to joke that we got a harder time from constituents when we
lost the bocce match than we did in a bad budget year.

The tournament is named after Caliendo's cousin, a former Asbury
Park police officer and special events director for the city who
passed away on the eve of the event in 1987. Then-Gov. Thomas H.
Kean declared it the official bocce tournament of New Jersey, and
it attracted participants from as far away as Staten Island. This
year, teams are coming from remote locations like Ridgefield Park in
Bergen County and Northfield near Atlantic City.

The current tournament is being played in memory of Caliendo's
brother, Ricky, who died Feb. 11 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,
or ALS, also referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Ricky Caliendo, 52, a former Asbury Park city worker, was one of the
 original tournament officials in 1977.

Sal Caliendo will bring out one of those original courts to serve as
the championship court this year, he said, along with an original
scoreboard and bocce ball set. Sal's wife, Liz, has been preparing
hundreds of photographs to display at the tournament. Those
photographs are available for the taking as the Caliendos, who have
a collection of thousands, hope some of the attendees see themselves
or a cherished relative in the displays.

If you see a memory you like, take the picture, Caliendo said.

[AsburyPark] Re: Security Cameras: Pros Cons

2007-07-12 Thread 2fine4u
As for me, I'm not adverse to cameras in common areas, e.g., Parks,
parking lots, train station, bus stops, municipal, state, federal
bldgs. and schools, where break-ins are common. Some years back,
GreenGrove School was broken into and the thieves, who turned out to
be local kids, from middle-classed homes, were caught, fined and
turned over to their parents, since it was a first offense. Vandalism
is also deterred, as it should have been in Library Park. It really
takes the air out of one's sails, when destruction is done for spite
and on purpose! It ruins the chance for ordinary people, to have a
decent, quality of life. If cameras, were surveilled on heavily
traveled streets, it would deter litter, if signs were placed, for
ALL to see, that by depositing refuse in containers, placed around
town, AP, would give the indication, that residents, take care to keep
their streets safe and clean! Is it just me? Since Katrina, New
Orleans has a no tolerance for litter, anywhere! It looks like
Europe! Not a scrap of paper or garbage, anywhere! This is a very
small place. Can't we all use a litter bag or can it? A $250
fine, is imposed, if caught!

The Little League and the Bicycle Church, but those groups didn't have
any teens involved. I applaud ALL of these groups! The kids, were
smiling and laughing their heads off! The parents and advisors
present, were AWESOME! There ARE some things going on, here! I

together takes effort, dedication and oh yes, MONEY! MM had a float
FILLED with kids, throwing Beach Balls to the crowd! I'm backing off
the City, just for what I saw July 4th! Without the City's backing,
these things couldn't be possible! Something still has to be done to
improve the quality of life for the lost teens, in our city! Kudos,

Seaview Square, that had been there, for years! My daughter, had a

Certainly no one is seriously suggesting the City council

It does

it is

[AsburyPark] Re: 18 Johns arrested in AP yesterday

2007-06-20 Thread 2fine4u
Tommy, Thanks! I too, can't quite be in the mix, per se, as far as
The Black Experience. I wasn't raised in the ghetto and had never
heard the word, attributed to Blacks, until the riots of the 60's! I
was so naive, I didn't know the projects, were public housing, or
that public housing, was for low income people, of all races!

I didn't understand why some whites, called us, the N word. I had
never seen a Puerto Rican, or persons, readily speaking Spanish,
until, I moved here! When I came East, in 1970, I couldn't understand
Blacks, (older ones), referring to African Americans, as colored,
when progressives like myself, self-defined myself, as African
American or just plain Black, because I am really mixed, don't know
which African tribe I descended, from!

When I look back, now, I really led a charmed life. My father owned
a business, and I, with my 3 siblings, attended Parochial School, for
13 years and stupidly assumed, people were poor, through their own
fault! Why? My father always had 2 jobs, we lived in a home he
bought after his service, in WWII. All of our family and associates
were Roman Catholic! My family ran the gamut of complexions, so fair,
they were mistaken for white and so black, it was undeniable, who they
were! I stupidly thought all Blacks, looked like that, before I had
formal Black Studies, out of curiosity, more than to seek the truth!

There are still People of Color, in my home-town, who don't consider
themselves as Black people, clinging to and denying, their Black
Heritage. I feel sorry for them, for their apparent, ignorance!
Katrina, should have opened their eyes! I've also learned from other
ethnicities, the importance of teaching your children, who they are,
what traditions they should adhere, to.

Maybe one day, we can put our biases down and help each other. I
still dream a world...

The Politically Incorrect Americanism of Alba, Pacino, and Arnold

 Hablas Espanol?

Jessica Alba doesn't. Is there anything wrong with that? Apparently
 so.

The third-generation American and actress is under fire this week
from fellow Latinos for comments she made to Para Todos magazine:

Alba is my last name and I'm proud of that. But that's it. My
grandparents were born in California, the same as my parents, and
though I may be proud of my last name, I'm American. Throughout my
whole life, I've never felt connected to one particular race or
heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any. If you break it down, I'm
less Latina than Cameron Diaz, whose father is Cuban. But people
 don't call her Latina because she's blonde…

My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only
Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country
club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted
his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my
grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-
generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose.

My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted
me, ... So I never felt connected or attached to any race
specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and
I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but
it's not fitting; it would be insincere.

She never felt connected to any race, specifically, but she always
felt American. That doesn't sounds like a bad thing, does it? And
yet, it is, in the eyes of many activists.

One blog post on the comments remarks, Guess sell-outs come in all
races and sizes. Another calls it a disturbing hoard of quotes.
 Another claims she hates Mexicans.

Comments about Alba's comments include, F**K YOU THEN, JESSICA…VIVA
LA RAZA!!!, She should just change her last name to White, then,
and I thought she could be a good role model for Latinas, but she
is a fake, tryin' to be white.

Alba wasn't trying to make a political statement. Instead, she
sounds like she was trying to avoid speaking for an entire ethnicity
and many recent immigrants when she barely speaks Spanish, and
identifies as an American first. But because she didn't reflexively
take upon herself her ethnic mantle and collective responsibility,
she's bashed as a traitor to her race.

Elsewhere, a phenomenally successful first-generation immigrant was
sharing his secret to success in America, which was much the same as
the approach Alba's college-educated grandfather took. When
addressing the national Association of Hispanic Journalists, and
responding to question about how Hispanics can improve academically,
 California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said:

As far as minorities being the new majority, Blacks of African

NO! Only the descendants, of slaves, of the original 50 states, can be
African American, even though Barack Obama, was born of a white
American Mother and African father, makes HIM, an African American,
also, because he was born in the States, he can't OWN, the story of
having descended from slaves, brought to the North American Continent!
Jamaicans, are quick to tell me, that they have a country and a flag!
I also got this statement from all Islanders, except those born in
the American Virgin Islands, who are as American as I am, because St.
Thomas, St, Croix, are American Colonies and their residents, serve in
the Armed Forces, as Americans, still in the Panama Canal Zone, are
Americans also. Bet you didn't know that! Obama, readily admits,
that he has benefitted from the gains, made by the Civil Rights
Movement, of the 60's and the ongoing fight, to achieve equality,
guaranteed under the Constitution, but denied its' African
descendants, still! Blacks, have to be ever vigilant, because there
are those who would like nothing better, than to re-enslave us!

You're right on point, but the West Side looks like Shangri-La,
compared to the lower 9! I didn't want to admit, that I cried, or
that my sister photographed me, on the top of 2 concrete stairs with
inlaid marble accents, that have no house, behind it! Scores, of
schools, still uninhabitable, no cleanup and it looks like a ghost
town, not part of a large city! Empty homes, some boarded up, some
untouched, some being worked on, with a FEMA trailer, somewhere on the
property, (some in the front of the home), on the sidewalk! Come on
people, these were homes, that are OWNED and PAID for! Blacks and
whites, didn't just show up, in Louisiana, they've ALWAYS BEEN
THERE! New Orleans, was established in 1699, at least that's what my
Tee-Shirt says! It was once the largest port in the US, until
Houston, took over! It's French People of Color, are as ARROGANT, as
the French, in Paris, are! Ask them for a recipe and they will roll
their eyes at you, because if you ask 10 Creoles the same question,
they give the same answer, because they ALL think they're a better
cook, than YOU! I KNOW, I'm better, than ALL of them! Putting it out
here, if you want me to throw something together for a benefit, I'm
willing, but won't give YOU, the recipe, either! Emeril, wishes, he
cooked as good as I do! The fat chef, too! I see you laughing!

Sorry to hear about the fountain, after the work being done there.
Whoever did this, KNOWS, there's no cameras, there! I'm surprised
that with such a high crime rate, there aren't any! What would it
cost to have cameras placed there and at the schools, parks and other
common areas, of this town?

I hate to say it, but this is one of the quality of life reasons, this
City, goes nowhere, fast! It's not like this town isn't trying! This
falls under general maintenance, but if there's no money, I give up!
Can we sell T-shirts, buttons, or something? All you have to do, is
go over to Neptune and see all of the major improvements there, but
Asbury can do it too, if the money is allocated, then spent, for what
it should be spent for! If this fair city could get rid of the pork
it has, like 2 school administrators, I'd certainly give a donation,
toward surveilling public parks, schools and those dangerous pockets,
of the City, that always seems to have shooting incidents, etc. Just
my thoughts.

First of all, the extensive welfare state is much younger than

No country has ever been asked to handle this many foreigners

Consider some numbers. After America was formed, the two

We have more foriegn born people STANDING IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW

Some assert the number of illegals crossing the border is as

All of these people cannot

Most can be. Lets start with the approximately 70,000 that

How do they or

Sure!

I'll enroll them in school when they land here legally.
The jews who emigrated here always knew the
 answer.
The answer was assimilation. I don't recall them demanding any
street signs, applicaitions or 411 calls in yiddish.

My Black American son, was told in Florida, to learn Spanish! He

Yes they are. Many cities are declaring themselves sanctuary
cities were the police and judges are instructed not to ask about
 immigration status.

George Bush is dangling amnesty for prior tax evasion and automatic
citizenship as a reward for breaking the law and coming here
illegally. Sure sounds like he is encourging them to enter the
 country illegally to me.

While there are laws the penalize companies for employing
illegals, they are simply a slap on the wrist. If you really want
 to
stop it, then throw the employer in jail instead of fining him.

 Agreed. When can we start?

The father of one of my daughters students just got deported for
 being
undocumented. That is the correct term, not illegal.

Semantics. Under NJ Law, drunk driving is not a felony so it is not
designated as a crime. It's still illegal. So is being here
 against the immigration laws.

 So now the mother
is stuck here with her many children, all of whom were born in this
  country, without support.

Anchor babies? If so, that's a huge loophole in our immigration
 laws that needs to close.

BTW, the husband has never been in trouble
  with the law and works.

Me too, but the President isn't offering me amnesty for not paying
 my income taxes.

A century and more ago, American businesses advertised for
 workers in
Europe. That is how many of us came to be. America has an historic
  love affair with cheap labor.

Agreed. A certain political party argued in the 1860's to keep
slavery for economic reasons. Now both parties are trying to keep a
permenant, low wage slave class here too, at the expense of working
class Blacks who can't ask for a living wage.

Many of the illegal Mexicans aren't intrested in a living wage -
they live 30 in a house, send the money back to Mexico and retire
there in a few years because the exchange rate is so favorable.

Don't take my word for it. Read up on Cesar Chaves, a left wing
hero who organized the fruit laborers in California. He was a
constant fighter against illegal immigration from Mexico because it
allowed employers to not pay a living wage to American workers.

Can't we learn from our own recent history?

I am not condoning the johns' actions, although I certainly can
sympathize with some of their likely plights of being in a strange
country all alone without a mate after working who knows how many
hours all to send some money home.

The unwillingness to assimilate is their problem, not mine.

Prostitution is a problem here in
  AP for other reasons.

 End our suspense..

The insanity of making it illegal. Will we never learn?

I know a nice town in Nevada you can live in.

I appreciate and thank you for your comments on illegal aliens. It
creates a permenant underclass and jobs, that teenagers used to look
forward to having, in the summer, no longer exists! With all of the
high tech jobs, also going overseas, this country, is recreating an
old system of the very rich and the desperately poor! Employment
usually reserved for the undereducated or mis-educated Americans, are
going to South Americans, not just Mexicans, create an almost
Catch-22, situation. Either way, the foreign Hispanics, lose. They
are not granted citizenship, are deeply resented by Blacks, Union
workers and small entrepreneurs, who once could look forward, to
having SOME employment, into a virtual unemployment, for life. This
leads to gang creation, drug distribution, drug use, incarceration
with long, draconian sentences, due to the Rockefeller Drug Laws, but
it also creates employment, for the Justice Department. More jails to
incarcerate, the overflow in the prisons and an almost planned
genocide, of Blacks and Hispanics, (Puerto Ricans), because we are
considered, expendable! Just my thoughts. Thanks again!

kids, last year! What a great day, for a parade! Asbury Park's Band,

 Dear Group,

Each year since the 4th of July Parade started here in Asbury, I
dress my kids up as clowns and they march the parade giving out
toys/trinkets to the children lining the parade route. We have a
truck that stores the toys, and they march behind grabbing the toys
and running them to each side of the street.

They love doing it. In the end its great fun. Great memory builder.

However, I don't have enough kids each year. It is usually my 4 and
 about 2 others.

You can't really appreciate how wide Main Street is until you see
these kids running back and forth between the truck and both sides
of the street, trying to keep up with the truck as it moves forward.

Last year it was really hot. They worked like dogs. They were
struggling to keep up because the crowds are bigger each year.

I promised them that this year I would get more help.

If any of you have or know of some kids that would like to come
along, I'd love to have them. I prefer teenagers, but as young as
10 will do (younger than that they tend to quit and we end up
cramming them in the truck with the toys for the rest of the parade).

Id like to have maybe 15 kids.

They don't have to actually dress as clowns. Some just do face
paint (my wife does the painting before the parade). I'm willing to
negotiate down to no costume at all if I can get the help.

If you can help, please call my office at 732-869-1500 (I'm short a
secretary right now so if I'm not there it may ring about 8 times
before the answering machine picks up - leave a message and I'll
 call you back).

Thanks so much (actually my kids will thank you so much).

 Tommy.

At last night's BOE meeting, the state intervention team gave a 90

district from Early Childhood through High School. Of all 600 school
districts in New Jersey, they are spending the most time and resources
here due to the often dysfunctional, but fixable in their view, nature
of our school system. Early Childhood and Elementary are the
brightest spots here, and there are plans to ameliorate and remediate
the secondary level with initiatives from our own Board of Ed, a
Middle School Initiative and Grant from UMDNJ, the NJEA, and
assistance provided by the State. There will be more transitional
Summer school programs than ever before to keep the progress moving
ahead. The Intervention Team, headed by Assistant State Commissioner
of Ed Dr. Penelope Lattimer, as well as the Board expressed their
admiration for the work being accomplished by the Acting
Superintendent, James Parham. The three students who won the
district-wide spelling bee, the Teachers of the Year, the Students who
have been named to the Governor's School and the Monmouth County
Student of the Month (a phenomenal young lady from our high
school—there's a story about Carlita in today's Press) were all
honored. Also last night the Board passed a corrective action plan to
correct irregular business procedures that have needed correcting for
a very long time. The present law firm was also re-appointed for
another year with one abstention and one no vote. Due to a very
long agenda and unusually long closed session, the meeting ended well
past 11 PM. As usual, I must state that I do not speak for the Board.

Mr. Serpico, is a fine, reputable guy, as well as attorney! AP, gets
its' money's worth, when they hired him! A decent, honorable son, of
Asbury Park! Indeed, Mr. Serpico, taught me and gave good sound
advice, on how to change, or grant beneficial use, in many requests,
on the zoning board! I believe as he always did, (his homework), on
this Ned, person. Too bad, he didn't heed him, when he repeatedly
asked, whether there was any conflict. once said, that I couldn't
vote on an issue, because of my faith, forgetting the board was
predominantly Catholic and that religion, had no bearing on the
ruling. Wasn't anything monumental, except a change in use, of a said
property. When it comes to faith-based activities of any group, I
would have voted yes, because religion, is the one thing that grounds,
me. Not so for some or those who have no faith; it's just what it is!
I've also learned that it's okay, to NOT have any faith, for whatever
reason or, none! Our board meetings were only attended by those
petitioning. There were no huge crowds and I almost thought, that it
was a non-important, board! It is, since the redevelopment, finally
took off!

which left Serpico in a bind, according to him. He had no proof to
dispute Brown's claim. I believe I asked him about the ethics report at
that time, but I think Serpico said then that he hadn't seen Brown's
report. That was probably because Brown hadn't filled it out yet. I
hope the boards are more diligent now about collecting those forms
prior to a new member's first meeting.

OK, what about us? Anyone who cares to ride up the street from Main
to Grand Ave., will know what I'm talking about! It's a mess! The
school blocks off all the streets in the morning and afternoon, with
the worse crossing guards in the county! Ride through here anytime
and you'll see the checkpoint charlie barricades! No kidding!

Great report on your site, Maureen! It may take a while, but the
truth usually does come out. The personal touch and your knowledge of
the entire matter are both admirable. Valentin's comment in the Press

official should put it on an index card and carry it with him or her
wherever they go: Those who choose to serve the public in any
capacity must put the public interest first and hold themselves
accountable to higher standards. When a public official chooses to
ignore the rule of law and place their own personal interests before
that of the public they serve, they can face severe consequences.

[AsburyPark] Re: Werner's Monorail

2007-05-12 Thread 2fine4u
I actually rode in a monorail car at the 1984 World's Fair, New
Orleans. We exited at the NASA exibit of the Columbia Space Shuttle
and was awestruck at the complexity of the Space Vehicle. I have an
admiration of all technology, having come out of RD. There's no harm
in reflecting on the past, to see how far we've come. Change is good,
except when that change, redefines or forgets, what makes an area,
what it IS! I see no harm in having the old, next to the new, but as
some have observed here, it shows pride, when you can preserve.
rather than destroy, that, which makes an area, unique! After
Katrina, did anyone read, that the French Quarter, would be destroyed
and condos built? NO! They were too busy trying to dry the place out
and as usual, the lower 9th ward, was and still is, being neglected!
Any parallels to the destruction of the landmarks, that had made AP,
the pearl of the Jersey Shore? You say jewel, I say pearl,
because what was once pristine, has turned into a dump! A sorry
commentary, on what made Asbury Park, unique and different from
Seaside Hts., or Point Pleasant. This City had its' unique
architecture and landmarks, of which you only have postcards,
photographs and things that once, were. So get rid of the old,
because the Partners, DON'T identify with it. All I can say, is,
there's nothing Jewish here, so what do they care? I've been to
countries, where 3 or 4 square blocks, are left of old Jewish
neighborhoods, from WWII. I didn't hear the tour guide say, Oh, this
will be torn down and made into condos! See what I mean? My opinion
and I'm sticking to it!

[AsburyPark] Re: Parking in the redevelopment zone

2007-05-09 Thread 2fine4u
This, is what happens, when you think YOU know all the answers! Ever
heard of forecasting? It's what ALL marketers, or Business
Marketing Professionals, (emphasis on Professionals), do, BEFORE,
presenting their product, service or area of expertise! How in the
world, did they NOT plan for parking? I was over there at CH, for the
Monmouth County Cotillion, an annual event, for African American High
School Seniors, from the County area! Parking, was HORRENDOUS! I was
let out at the curb, due to the fact, ALL of the handicapped spaces
were GONE! Why do I have to park in hadicapped? Besides terminal
brain damage, I have an inoperable disc problem, in my lower neck
and back. Makes walking into and out of certain areas, almost
impossible, especially, high curbs, uneven ground, etc., which puts
CH, almost impossible to maneuver. When I was young, I didn't even
think about it. Also, the steps of CH are verticle, high and
thankfully, I'm NOT in a wheel-chair, YET! CH, is VERY handicapped,
inaccessible! Why this jewel, has bee allowed to crumble, is beyond
me! It is caught up in the 70's and 80's, as far as design and NO
ramps, whatsoever! I say that, to say this, my legs were cramped and
I left, at the intermission. Same for the 110th! I was babysitting a
well known personality, which included the famous Mr. Noumair of
Noumair's photography, who let me know where I can find the proofs,
from my son's Confirmation, back in '74! I wasn't a VIP, said so and
told my friend, that I was leaving, because I couldn't maneuver CH,
too many steps! Our own Deputy Mayor, would have had, to have been
carried into a seat, had he not been down in the semi-circle, reserved
for them. Saying all that, no consideration for parking,
accomodations, for the elderly, people like me, who have pre-exisiting
situations, ( I look perfectly normal), until I try to navigate an
area, I know, I can't! So, I guess I have to read about events, in
the papers, or online, huh? So much for redevelopment! Only the
young and the strong, survive!

Thanks for the link, but it utterly depressed me! I'm not a native,
but I love this place, for all it was and what it could be! My kids,
grew up here and wherever they live, realize that there's no place
like AP, Neptune and Long Branch, for the rich experience of having
been young and foolish, as the young are! I fell like singing,
Thanks for the Memories, as Bob Hope, so fondly sang or My kind of
Town, as Frank Sinatra, sang. Sad, huh? My attachment for what
might have been and how bitterly cruel, it is, to live here and see
the greed, played out, in such a cruel, in your face, way!
Yesterday, I was in Home Goods, purchasing items, for a Patriotic
Basket and found 2 items, just for me; Melville's Sea Coast Lollipops,
perfect as a buy, for this area. For $6.99, the clear package has 6
glycerin pops, in the shapes of All things Asbury! Lollipops, in
the shapes of a shark, seashell, lighthouse, sailboat, sea horse and a
lobster! Overpriced, but so what! In New Orleans, there was a Greek
Confectioner, who created these, 2 for a nickle! For the naught me, I
purchased Shonfeld's, At the Party, frozen pops kit, for ADULTS! 4
plastic molds, with 2 tubes of punch mix, and instructions, where to
pour the alcohol in the bottom, drink mix and water, at the top!
Perfect thing, on a hot afternoon, AT HOME! For adults, only! Yeah,
there's still a kid, inside, me! That and my Yankee Candles!

[AsburyPark] Re: Good bye Pony....

2007-05-09 Thread 2fine4u
The point, is, how fast, technology, in this case, becomes, obsolete!
When these innovations were produced, THEY, were the NEXT, Big
Thing, as they are commonly called! I worked in the RD field, for
over 20 years and surprised at how many here, are either engineers,
marketers and end users, as they say, in the business! What, you have
no memories? If anyone in this group, remembers Pong, you know what
I'm talking about! Pong, was the very first electronic game, that was
massed produced! Atari, IntelliVision and Super Mario Brothers,
followed! An analogy of AP can parallel, what I've just said; AP -
Old, established, religious camp settlement, pretty much, like Ocean
Grove. A plact to take the air and worship! Segregated, bigoted,
whatever you wish to call it, because people, of a darker hue, could
only work there, not live there. A class and racial system, still
practiced to this day, in theory, if not actual! A phenomenon or
movement, dubbed, regentrification, occurs, when long neglected
urban centers, done so, due to white flight, occured, in the 60's,
taking the jobs, factories, etc., to the suburbs, rendering the school
systems, integrated by the 1954, Brown vs. the Board decree, still
leaving the schools, predominantly black/hispanic/poor, to furthur
deteriorate, either from overfunding of suburban schools, resulting in
your Abbott, districts of today, that no matter how much money, you
throw at a problem, the problem, remains, unresolved! Due to
inflation, city and suburban dwellers, have the means, to take old
and deteriorated properties and refurbish them, commonly called,
regentrification, which pushes the poor and underserved to be moved
out, in favor of this new money! Minorities, like me, can opt to
stay or move away, because I can! Any questions?

All TRUE! Are you a Telephone Pioneer, too? Jesus, you really knew
the system! Not thanking you, for THAT memory. Lots of waste, on
redundant, passe' projects! Ran into an associate, 2 days in a row.
One, I hadn't seen in 30 years and she asked did I remember her?
She's one of the nice people, I did! Even with her white hair,
she's still beautiful! All they did at ATT was WASTE money!

[AsburyPark] Re: it takes a lot to laugh, it taks a train to cry

2007-04-30 Thread 2fine4u
It's like an attempt in futility! Thanks, for including me, in this
illustrious group of people! It's also people like you, who really
make a difference and make me glad that I live here, trying to hang in
there, etc. It's not easy, when you feel like you're just out there
alone! No matter what happens, I still wish for a positive outcome in
the City, that will benefit and enhance the quality of life, here.
It's what we ALL, strive for! I'm always disheartened, by those that
litter, then wonder why this place, can be a dump, in more ways than
one! Going to put a pair of rubber gloves in my car and stop, when I
see this filth! In Europe, you don't see one scrap of paper or waste,
on the ground, or in the streets. There are certain areas, you don't
see it here, either, like lower Sunset Ave., 8th Ave., 7th, some areas
of Webb St., but then there are certain sections of streets, that make
you feel as though, it's a garbage dump! My street is swept, every
other day and there's alternate side of the street parking, on these
days. The City does a great job, so my beef, is not with our workers,
it's with people, who have no pride in themselves. We're doing some
things right, like electing qualified individuals, to correct the
mistakes, made by former boards, former administrators, etc. In that
regard, I think the City will move forward. Weeding out corruption,
should be paramount, in any town! When you read some of the saleries,
earned by those caught, with their hands in the till, it has to be
GREED! We lose, kids and seniors lose and it just gives us, another
Black Eye! One day, we will all have to stand and give account, for
not helping the poor, or feeding the hungry, because a few people with
power and manipulation, of the press, always get their way, then cry
foul, when they feel their civil rights, are being trampled on.
Anyway, again thanks! If someone knows where I can get a replica, or
reasonable facsimile, of the Carousel, displayed for the 110th, please
send details. I want to use the carousel image, when I become State
President, for my organization and order pins and give-aways, for my
installation. Should I contact Jewell Marketing? I really would like
everyone to wear those great, T-Shirts, that promote Asbury Park.
Thanks in advance,
S

It takes the hinges, the werners, nevin, franks, sharons, sackman,
every business owner and yes even larry to take this city to the next
level. To do so, they have had to deal with the OLD city politics and
get past it by using patience and common sense - and not being afraid
of speaking up and taking the challenge presented by some with power
they simply shouldn't have. And there are plenty of hard working, good
city employess who will go beyond and around to help, while others
will simply look u in the face and tell you no - basically telling u
 to go f yourself.

So it has taken this long for some good new people to buy in to old
bs, take the challenge and roll along, despite the negative comments,
the setbacks, the money and the politics that still plague the city.

[AsburyPark] Re: Blinded By The Light

2007-04-28 Thread 2fine4u
I'm with AsburyPedaler and Mario, in their statements! I admire
anyone, who stands up for the Asbury Park, of old! The nostalgic and
historical. There's no measure of what you give, except that you give
it. Believe me, it IS appreciated! Believe me, I've been scorned and
rebuked, so in that regard, we're all together, but like Jennifer
Hudson, in her show stopping performance, in DreamGirls, ...and I
am telling you, I'm not going! We all have our dreams and
aspirations, as I'm sure everyone here, has! You are truly an Angel
and the guardian of the Dream! Thanks!

 The dilemma:
How not to be misinterpreted -- as arrogant or prejudiced etc. -- when
trying to distill complex subjects into soundbites. Tough enough
face to face,
 much more so in print.

 Very time-consuming, tiring, and frustrating.

I appreciate and respect you, Werner. Even if all you do is an
exercise in futility, your character is intact. I believe you have
more integrity in your pinky than most who claim to love AP have in
their whole geneology. I know it may not mean much coming from
another shunned member of the community, but I think you get more
respect and praise then you are currently willing to see. Chin up,
whatever you do. If your tired of it, you can let it go. I was tired
of some of the same issues as you. Only I couldn't suffer with it for
25 years. I learned my lesson early in the game. Let me know if I can
 help. Robert

[AsburyPark] Re: Zoning Board Results ?

2007-04-27 Thread 2fine4u
22 years ago, we didn't have the awareness, that we now have, thanks
to Meaghan's law. We didn't have an internet, so sophisticated that
this information, wasn't posted, because the internet was USENET! I
DID work in R D! Been on the net, since '82, thank you! Owning
property isn't mutually exclusive. Everyone has the need to feel
secure in their environment. So what's your beef?

--- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 . The
Constitution, protects ALL citizens, from witch-hunts, like this!
This is the US, not Salem, Mass.!

And everyone has a right to defend their property and their rights,
 right?

For example, I have a rentla property Ocean Township. Unfortuantely
for me, when I purchased this house 22 years ago as an investment,
the onwer's son was a POS. The POS was arrested a few years after I
bought the house for apparently molesting his daughter. So a few
years ago, the POS gets out of jail, moves next door to another
neightbor who took him in. And, the way the law is, no one is
notified by the probation department, prosecutor etc. Luckily, I saw
the POS walking around and made sure we all knew. After calling the
probation department etc - the POS has more rights to privacy then do
the rights of the surrounding neighbors and KIDS.

While his picture is on the 'net, you have to check for yourself.

Lucky for us, we have someone from Dan's old neighborhood who made it
a point to show the POS a couple of things. 1)The toy in his belt 2)
 The property lines.

Then, when you go to either SELL your house or RENT it - the landlord
is NOT allowed to disclose that you have a POS living next door (that
is, you're not supposed to, by law), but you can advise them
to check out the internet for possible sex-offenders. So you may
lose a tenant or 5, get around $400/month less (everyone has a
price), or your home may be worth LESS.

Think back - that is what happened to AP. Now you have to have some
controls over the building, number of people to serve etc etc.

The state pays good rent for approved adult daycare centers. You'll
see more and more facilities located in former warehouses. Actually,
there aren't enough locations for the demand.
