Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Ax40 - Ax2009
Hi Craig, Whenever you get a SQL database error, you will find more detail in the event viewer. Try to synchronize that table again, then look at event viewer. Typically it is a unique index that fails. When I get a unique index error, I temporarily change the index structure. You can always add an index on recid on any table. That will never fail to be unique. Then you can make the troublesome index non-unique on the table property. If the index violation is an index references as the cluster index or the primary index in the table properties, you will need to change those properties as welll. On the database side, you can view the duplicates of the violating key and decide how to deal with that. Hopefully you can delete some records from one of the companies where you do not need the records in that table. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Workflows
There is the capability to setup approvers based on position hierarchy in the configuration. Then if the hierarchy is modified before the approver is needed, then the change will take effect. E.g. Susan's boss must approve. Susan gets a new boss. The position hierarchy gets modified. From then on the new boss becomes the approver. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Importing Question
You can never import directly into an AX database because you cannot succeed in setting the record ids. You can try to use the AX Admin import - but there is one new complexity with AX 2009 - the global address book must be loaded with customer data as well and I personally have not been very successful doing Admin imports when this is the case. Open the CustTable form, right click and choose Setup, go to middle tab, click edit on the form name, open the DataSources node. There you see all the tables that must be loaded for customer records to display in AX. What state are your 50K rows in? Is it in another database accessible by ODBC? Is it in a delimited text file? My most effective way of importing data when there are other datasources needed is to use an X++ job that creates an instance of axCustTable class. You read the data via ODBC or with one of the IO classes for text files. You use parm methods of the axCustTable class to set fields that you have read. Then you call the axCustTable.save() method. That process will populate all of the tables for you auto-magically. You may want to get help from a developer for this process. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Sending PO or SO by email
I think for PDF attachments you need to have Adobe software loaded on the system generating the email (AOS or client sending the email). I am not sure what is needed for an html attachment. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Using/copying DAT company account
What you suggest might work fine for now. However, I had a lot of trouble when I tried to upgrade an environment from 4.0 to AX 2009 where demo data had been loaded into the DAT company. Even trying to run the DatabaseTransDelete and deleting records in master records did not resolve my difficulties. There are so very many tables into which data had been loaded - I could not find them all. I could not do the post Synchronize steps for the upgrade. I got all kinds of errors that I just could not resolve. If I were you, I would create a clean installation -- export all 20 companies and import them into the clean company. Export DAT company and import to the new company. Ultimately, that is what I did to be able to do data upgrade. I exported the desired companies, imported them into a clean 4.0 upgrade never touching the DAT company. Finally then, I was able to get through the data upgrade successfully. I know that sounds terribly painful. Perhaps you will not have problems until it is time to upgrade to a new release. But you asked for us to let you know about the challenges. After this I would do a DatabaseTransDelete in DAT followed by some home-made utility that would delete master information like items etc. Afterwards, all users should have their profile point to account XYZ instead, and we should be home free... at least in theory. But - I was wondering if any of you guys could see any challenges in this approach, since the DAT company account is also used to hold other, non per-user tables and features like users, access etc. Any pointers or experience shared will be much appreciated. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] EP Management
Craig, I saw your post earlier but did not understand what you meant by manage the web deployment so I did not reply at that time. It was not clear to me precisely know what you were doing when you saw the access denied message. When I see the words you used (web deployment), I think of SSRS report deployment - not EP. I am a techy - I install EP and AX and do development - so I sometimes interpret things differently than application-oriented folks. But since you tried twice and got no reply, I will suggest: 1) check Business Connector proxy account to be sure it has access to whatever it needs for this deployment - this is the account that EP uses to gain access to AX data 2) check rights in SharePoint for what you are trying to do. EP is a SharePoint presentation of AX so you need proper rights in SharePoint to work with EP. I hope that this is a somewhat useful response. If you provide more specifics, maybe I can think of something else that is helpful. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Calling Info() in .net business connector
I do not know for sure what is the problem - maybe there is no message in that session to retrieve. I can tell you that I have had the most success with .net business connector when I do my own coding on the X++ side and call my own class methods from .net. Then it is also easy for me to actually debug my code - both in .net AND in X++. I suggest that you try the following. 1) Create a new class in AX and add the method getLastMessage in the xinfo.text example (pasted below). 2) Then create your class in .NET rather than the info class. 3) Call your getLastMessage method from your .NET code. To debug you must check the checkboxes both to debug on server in server configuration and to debug Business Connector in client configuration. Make sure that in Tools Options on Development tab that the Debug Mode is set to When Breakpoint (which will get set automatically if you put a breakpoint in your getLastMessage method). Open the debugger from Tools Developer Tools. Then begin debugging in .NET and when you call the getLastMessage method, you will be able to pace through the code in the AX debugger. Then hopefully you can see the message you are looking for. Here is the code pasted from AX help: public str getLastMessage() { int currentLine = infolog.line(); str messageText = ''; ; if (currentLine infoLogStartLine) { // Message text only available if something new // was added to the infolog messageText = strltrim(strrtrim (this.trimLeadingTabs(infolog.text(currentLine; } return messageText; } On Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 3:05 AM, Sakthivel K sakaxa...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, i tried to call info() in .net business connector, but i couldn't able to do.Below is my .net code.when i am trying to call this .net method in my class i could not able to see info window. If any error in this code please correct it. public string showMsgNewStr() { Axapta ax; string infoLogText = ; try { // Login to Microsoft Dynamics Ax. ax = new Axapta(); ax.Logon( null, null, null, null); object infolog = ax.GetObject(InfoLog); AxaptaObject infoClass = ax.CreateAxaptaObject(Info); infoLogText = ( String)infoClass.Call(text,1)+Hi; } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(An error occurred in object creation or Axapta logon: {0}, e.Message); } return infoLogText; } Thanks, Sakthivel

Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Need help in Master Planning in AX9
I am more developer than functional consultant. Maybe there is a way in standard AX 2009 that I may not be aware of. However, I did make a small customization once -- you can create a small software task to modify the safety stock levels to match sales forecast before running master planning. Provided that the expected receipts are actually on POs, that should create a planned order for the correct amount. You can manually try using the safety stock menu item to try this out manually - where you enter the sales forecast value and see if meets your need. Then do the development to cause the same to happen. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Need Help
Sanam Khan, If I understand your requirement, you do NOT need to write custom code; there IS a way in standard AX to use a custom number sequence for sales orders by customer. You can create a Number Sequence Group for each customer that needs a custom number sequence. Assign that Number Sequence group on the setup tab of the Customer - see if that works for you. Launch the help. Type in Number Sequence Group, sort, and look for the Number Sequence Group (form). You will see a full explanation there for how to set it up. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Passing Table objects in .Net Business connector
You can debug to be sure you know exactly which line of code issues the error in AX. The Development IV course has a chapter about using the .NET business connector and I would guess that the help has the same content. Here is a bit of information that might be helpful: 1) To debug both your .NET code as well as the AX code, modify server configuration to allow debugging on the server. Also modify the client configuration to allow debugging in the business connector. Set a breakpoint in AX code somewhere or go to the user Options and make sure that that the Debug Mode parameter is set to When Breakpoint (Which gets set automatically as soon as you set a breakpoint anywhere). Open the AX client and launch the debugger. 2) When you call CreateAxaptaRecord the string that you pass must be the name of an EXISTING Ax table. I do not think you can use that method, despite its name, to actually create a table in AX. The call that passes in ReqPO should not cause an error - but the call that passes in EAMItemRequirements might be a problem if that table does not already exist in your environment. 3) I prefer to write most of the code in X++ in AX classes to do whatever work I need to do via .NET. I pass values as int and str to the class and let AX manipulate the tables via the class. So I use the AxaptaObject when I need to modify data in AX. I only use AxaptaRecord to retrieve information from AX into .NET I hope that helps. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Field Size.
The field size is an inherited parameter. So, the only way to do this with the existing inheritance structure is to change the Extended Data Type Name and that will then expand all occurrances of the Name field in the entire application. Name is used in so many places so that may not be what you desire. I suggest that instead you should customize the ConfigTable and its form to add a new field which is a long description field of your own data type 300 characters in size. Then use that field to hold the extra information for which you require 300 characters - but leave the Name field as is and use a unique short name. I presume you are asking about purchase matching not sales matching. In AX 2009, by the way, you can do matching of PO, Packing Slip and Invoice in the standard product. Since you say AX 4.0, you would need to do the matching yourself. Ax uses journals to keep the packing slip and invoice records. The header for the vendor packing slip journal is named VendPackingSlipJour and the lines of the packing slip are in VendPackingSlipTrans. A siimilar naming convention is used for invoices. The header table is VendInvoiceJour and the lines are VendInvoiceTrans. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Import Custamization Problem
There is a checkbox on the export to export labels along with code. Then when you import there is a checkbox as well to import labels. You can only import labels to a custom label file which you must create in the receiving system (unless there is already a custom label file which you can choose in the import dropdown list). However, be warned. Labels will export and import if they are attached to properties (like form fields or report labels). If you have put label references into X++ code, then the export and import do not work to keep the label numbering correct. It is better to move the label files from the source to the target system. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Error when start Axapta 4.0 client
I wonder how the database was created. There are two stored procedures which need to run at startup. Perhaps you should check the rights (or content) of those procedures which validate the user to see why administrator group is the only way to succeed. The stored procedure names are CreateServerSessions CreateUserSessions Another suggestion is to have a DBA trace what is happening at SQL Server in both cases - successful login when in admin group and unsuccessful startup. Perhaps that will be a clue what AX tables are accessed for success - then create a group that provides access to those specific tables and give the user membership in that group. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Synchronize database error
AccountNum is a very commonly used EDT. The impact of such a change is huge! It is affecting at least one select statement as indicated in the message, but I would suspect many more selects would fail for the same reason. I would check with your customer to determine if 150 characters is absolutely required. If so, you have no choice but to take the advice -- i.e. use the Configuration Utility to increase the buffer size. Performance will probably NOT be very good if such a large account number is used. You may want to have the customer consult Microsoft support before you do this. It seems dangerous to me. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Upgrade to Ax 4.0 Sp1 to 2009
I did this upgrade. I had no significant pain areas for code upgrade. The data upgrade was a bit of a problem for where new unique indexes were added. My solution was to change the index when the upgrade identified it to allow duplicates. I could then finish the upgrade and then examine the data issues thereafter and restore the indexes to be unique again. Also, if CRM was in use in 4.0, the activities number sequence was moved out of the CRM module to the Basic module so it was necessary to delete the number sequence reference to fix error messages. The upgrade manual warns of other issues with data upgrade (at the end) so it is wise to read through those as well. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] issue while exporting and importing data in Ax3.0
I would suspect the reason you do not see the general table is is related to the permissions you have been granted in that instance of AX. You might try launching the Definition group menu option instead to see if that opens. Try to create a definition group with the tables you need to export. There is an export button on that screen. If you cannot even access the Definition group menu item, contact the administrator of that installation to ask if your permissions can be modified to allow the export. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Data Upgrade problem (Ax3SP4 -- Ax2009)
Jens, It is certainly worth a try to not use the global address book - or to implement after upgrade which might be possible with some scripting to check duplicates. I just know I had a lot of trouble with the new indexes in AX 2009. The EmplTable was only one case. If you get past the problem with EmplTable and hit another, I can make more suggestions about finding duplicates or modifying indexes. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Axapta 3.o Table to CSV
Pradeep, Tomi There is an easy way to export data in comma delimited format from the tables but the export file will not have the extension csv and it will be missing a title row - if that is tolerable. If you have rights to the Administration menu. Go to the Periodic folder. Beneath that is another folder Data export/import. Click on Definition groups Give the group a name - and switch to the tab labeled Include table groups and uncheck all of the checkboxes. Then click ok At this point, you have an empty group. Click on the Table setup button. Type in the name of your table - or get it from the huge dropdown list and then close that window. When you are back to the list of definition groups, with your group highlighted, click Export On the window that pops up, use the dropdown list to select Comma as the File type. Use the browse button to say where you want the file to be and how you will name it. Then click OK. Two files are generated. One has extension DEF which you can ignore. The other has extension DAT which you can change to CSV. The DEF file actually does list the column names that are in the DAT file. This type of text export file can be imported into any other AX company to load the data. But the format is the same as a csv file. I hope this is helpful - even though it is a lengthy process. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Regarding MS SQL Server 2005 Certification Questions
It is wrong to give to someone or get from someone any details about the exam questions. Test takers sign a non-disclosure agreement and it is a violation of that agreement to even use what you ask for. The best way to prepare for an exam is to read the training manual for the courses listed in the Microsoft Exam preparation guide. The exam has quite a few hands-on simulation questions. Knowing answers to the multiple choice questions will not be sufficient for you to pass the exam. You need experience using the software. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] URGENT: Number Sequnce

To use the NumberSeqFormHandler, do a find on CustTable form for all methods containing NumberSeqFormHandler. You will see what to do. You add a variable of that name and a new method of that name. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] need help
Michael's suggestion is best for a developer to break in the code at the error and determine why it is happening. Kathy Bb also provided some help. She wrote: One or more pending invoices cannot be displayed because they are in use. Search for @SYS112584, it does in sys layer You should be able to find the labal file in the installation directory like Microsoft Dynamics AX\5.0\Application\Appl\Standard Using her help I searched the AOT for that label and found that the error can be issued from only two locations in the code: 1) in the PurchFormLetter_Invoice.chooseAdditionalLine - the failure occurs when the line being selected in the query to invoice is already in a parm table for vendor invoice. I.e. could it be a purchase order that was received in multiple shipments and it is partially invoiced already? 2) in the init method of the PurchInvoiceMatchingDetails form. The comment before the error says: // Don't allow for multiple copies of the same VendInvoiceInfoTable record. In case 2, there are multiple invoices for a single purchase line, so the software cannot choose a unique invoice for matching. You did not indicate specifically what the user was doing when the error appeared. So I hope these comments are helpful to your further research. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Autoreservation
The message is coming from warehouse management because the system is creating an output order for the sales line. There must not be sufficient quantity of the item in available inventory. The client must want to be using warehouse management for outbound shipments and this is why the message appears. Rather than change the software or parameters, investigate first the client needs - the software is working as designed when the quantity is not available in inventory. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] how to Create temp table in runtime
Siva, Actually, all temp tables get created at runtime - because they are just flat files not database tables. However, the definition of the temp table really needs to be done in the AOT. To define a temp table at runtime would be a HUGE task using dictTable class and every field would need to be defined for that temp table. This is not the developer yahoo group, so I doubt that you would really want to investigate that complex process. Rather, in the AOT, create a table with the fields that you need in your temp table. Set the table property Temporary to Yes. Then write your code to use that table at runtime. Again, this is a developer oriented question that in the future would better be addressed to the group named development-axapta. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] What's the best way to import Item Master?
Edgar, Yes Excel imports are slow for so many records. You might investigate removing rows and columns that are not to be imported; resaving the Excel file as delimited text. Then create a Definition Group - Custom - and load the delimited text that way. Another option is to get a developer to help who can use the AXtable classes in a custom job for the load - combining create of all tables for each item at one time. One thing that increases speed of import is to commit for each item so that there is sufficient fast memory and no swapping. Also, with a custom job, you can load using multiple parallel sessions for greater throughput. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Workflow
Workflow is not intended to increase the productivity of the AX software system, but rather the productivity of the organization that REQUIRES approvals for some processes. AX can now handle the approval process. For example, without workflow in the software, the purchase requisition process would need to be done outside of the software and only after the paper trail gets all approvals does a purchase order get entered into AX. Now purchase requisitions can be entered by people and AX alerts the approvers. It is more efficient for the organization. A similar example would be submission of expense reports which need to go through an approval process. Now that is part of the AX 2009 software. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Problem in depolying SSRS from Axapta 4.0
Did you create the report in Visual Studio? Or is this one of the standard AX reports that are deployed by the installation? If it is one you created, do you get such an error when using report builder on an SSRS report provided by AX installer? I am not sure if I fully understand the problem, but it seems like AX is looking for a table with schema DBO and the table is not part of that schema. If you have the rights, look into SQL Server and observe the schema of each table to see if there is some discrepancy causing your problem. Is there a non-AX table that is part of the report? If so, then you might be wise to create all tables that are needed for the report from within AX. I hope these ideas hep you. Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Movement journal for initail inventory load
I am not sure that this really answers your question. It is just a suggestion. Since your post was 6 days ago, this information may be too late as well - but just in case you still have this need I always use a counting journal for loading inventory. It always shows on-hand after I post the counting journal. I think part of the problem may be with the purpose of the journal. I use movement journal typically to consume inventory for a particular internal purpose - like taking some stock for a specific department that needs it. I am not sure what happens when you make amounts negative, to try to put stock. The counting journal is very appropriate for initial inventory load. You are telling AX that you have a certain quantity when it thinks there are none in stock. An inventory transaction gets generated and you will show both physical and financial inventory on hand after posting. A profit/loss journal also works to add inventory (or to scrap inventory). Again there are physical and financial implications. So, I believe you problem may be that you used the wrong type of journal.
