NT4 doesn't run RIP by default, it's an added service you have to install. It's only RIPv1 so it's pretty worthless, IMHO. Under Control Panel- Services, just stop and disable RIP for Internet Protocol and/or Control Panel - Network - Services - select RIP for Internet Protocol and hit Remove

The Pings: Not 2 minutes before your post came across the list; I remembered why you can not ping the local ip on a MULTI-POINT interfaces. I was not thinking about pvc encapsulation. The ping still has to go out and if you don't tell the router which pvc to send it on it just drops it.
