I've heard about those zapper tools for MAUs but have never seen one. Is
there an official name for it? Any manufacturer or part number? Might be
worth finding on eBay. I have several old MAUs that I haven't tested.

believe token ring is mention in RFC 2549. Token Ring is not stated in RFC
1149 but it does talk about Point to Point connection. That would be the
case if you are not using a MAU in a Token Ring network.

I have connected up two 2502 with two HP UTP/STP Token Ring Hub. But I
find that the length of the connection cable to form the ring is really
a matters. I can only form the ring with the cable length less than 2m
with UTP cabling. Anyone knows how to work around with this limitation

I found a couple books on amazon. Token-Ring Networks by Gilbert Held (only
$185 for a 309 page book) sticks out. At more than $.50 per page, I expect
it to open up, dance a jig, and read i
utdown command will give a "Interface is administratively down"
response to show commands.
Essentially, the interface is not happy with the token ring network.
Could be any of
* Physically not connected
* ring speed mismatch
* ring speed not set
* cable problem

up/up.
I connect my token ring interface to MAU with just a straight through
cable (and I am NOT connected to the Ring In or Ring Out)
The MAU is IBDN (NORDX/CDT). that is all I can find about the MAU

You can't mix ring speeds however.

is ponderous. Over ethernet, an ARP request is broadcast but the reply
is unicast. In this paper (p. 4) there is a scenario where two hosts
are separated by two bridges and a ring. Host A wants to transmit to

If you are atempting to plug two Token-Ring cables into one MAU, just make
sure both of those interfaces are on the same network (Which really wouldn't
give you much), But just to test this, get two MAU's do not connect them to
any part of your network, place one cable in one MAU and
check ring speed

Either your mau is bad or your type 1 is bad or you token ring port is bad
on your router.
Since your router doesn't show the token ring port in reset, your router
port isn't bad. That leaves the other 2. You might also try to set the
port speed to 4 instead of 16

Since you have 2 sets of router and token-ring 9-pin-type1 cable it should
be easy to troubleshoot this problem..i would suggest you to try this...
1.. Connect only one router to the MAU. Check if token-ring port inserts
into the ring. I ask you to do this because if the other cable is bad it

Here's a link to a white paper on Token Ring. I haven't had a chance to read
it yet so I can't vouch for it's depth of knowledge.
