If you are using a 2509/2511 series with octal cables and need to connect to
something like a CAT5500 with a Sup III - that requires a straight patch
cable to connect to its CON port - use the AUX port on the 2511 and the

Yes. The CS-500 series are very old in terms of Cisco equipment. They will

Also read the CCO documentation as they are a little strange for things like

Are you using a static ip address on the dial in client, or does the access
server need to hand a DHCP address to the client?
make sure all icmp echo replies are enabled through your access lists and
see what you can ping once your connected. Post results.

But How do I connect it via dial
Gareth,
You would use a rollover cable on a 2511 that uses octal cables. On
2511rj, it's just a straight through cat5.

Hi,
Not splitting hairs, especially as your answer was so helpful, just curious.
I thought it was a rolled cable between 2511RJ and console ports.
Thought I'd check anyway, just to confuse things.
Cheers,

Steven,
I'm assuming you're using a 2511RJ series. If that's the case, then
you're lucky. Just plug a straight-through cat5 cable from the 16 async
ports on the 2511 to your routers or switches console port. Then on your
2511, setup a loopback interface, giving it an ip like 1.1.1.1/32. So for
I would like to set my 2511 so it would be possible to switch from each of
my routers console port on my lab. Is there a sample configuration setup for
this. Being new at this I'm a little lost. I would greatly appreciate any
help. I guess I would telnet somehow to the TTY line ?
Thanks,
Steve

2400/REL-LAPM-COMP then stop !!
I thought I can connect to the Access server from hyperterminal after the
modem accept the call
Pls tell me what should I do to see the configuration of the router
Hi,
Sometimes you need the 'modem type ...' or 'modem type autoconfigure' line
to allow the router to configure the proper lines on the modem. After
finding my USR modem, my access server would answer automatically.
Hope this helps,
Paul
