Dear Secret Pal, Your parcel arrived last Thursday, which coincided with
my Brithday so it made an extra surprise for the day. I was very pleased
with all the contents - I'm always short of divider pins and the needle
threader will be very useful. The pin cushions are really cute and the
little bag will be useful for keeping thread in. I have just got back
from a long weekend away so have only just been able to get to my
computer to reply. Looking forward to finding out your identity next
month Best wishesAndrea

To My Secret Pal,

I am so sorry for the delay in sending to you - we were away for a fortnight
in the Lake District, so the package had to be picked up from the Post Office
on our return - and Monday was a Bank Holiday, so couldn't be picked up till
Wednesday.

However - I am delighted, once again! The bobbin case is lovely - and as I
was contemplating sorting out some of my stash of material to make another, it
came just at the right time, as I can make more lace now, not bobbin cases!

The chocolates received the seal of approval from the four grandchildren! (I
managed to sneak a few too, and as chocolate covered peanuts are my
favourites, they went down very well indeed.) The pin and the cloisonne bell
are both delightful, so I am a very fortunate person indeed!

The socks - I love them! They will be worn a lot, believe me! We have
wood and tile floors in our house, and I tend to wear socks as slippers, but
these will now be abused like that - they will be worn with shoes, so that
they don't get more holey than righteous, too quickly!

I am so looking forward to knowing who you are - this time, I really haven't
any idea, but I love hearing your news and reading the cards. I expect you
were so disappointed at not being able to go to the Kylie Minogue concert - I
am sure we all wish her every success with the treatment, and hope that she'll
be back fit and well, and performing very soon.

I know what you mean when you say you want to spend as much time as you can
with your Dad. I still have both my parents - in fact we spent the fortnight
in the Lake District with them - and they only live in the next county, about
two hours away, but even so, I think we all feel we don't see enough of each
other.

However - many thanks indeed for the May package, and I shall look forward to
knowing just who you are this month.

All best wishes,

Carol

Dear Carol,

It is lovely to finally know who you actually are. Thankyou for all your
wonderful parcels and this last one is no exception.

I enjoyed reading your letter, especially how you met your husband :-)

Congratulations on your daughters upcoming wedding. An exciting time ahead.
How's the garter going ?

When I showed my husband the tea-towel from the English Lakes he was very
interested. His family originally came from the Lake District and he loves
the water and old boats. Hopefully one day we will be able to visit all these
wonderful places.

Thankyou also for the bookmark, I would love to see it and for the pillbox. I
have a collection of small boxes so this is a very welcomed addition. The
boobins will join my next project. Thankyou.

I have really enjoyed receiving your parcels over the last few months and I
look forward to keeping in touch.

To my Australian Secret Pal

A huge thank you to my new Secret Pal. What lovely gifts you have sent me - I
am very lucky indeed!

The threads are all very lovely - I particularly like the one with the
variegated green shades. The pin badge will go on my pin cushion and the
magnetic book mark has come at a perfect time. I am about to go on holiday -
holidays are the only time when I find the time to sit and read a book! The
tissue holder with my name on is superb - and is just a perfect size for my
handbag.

It was very kind of you to think of the children. I am saving the necklace to
give to Bethany when we go on holiday and I think the big lollipop will last
Matthew for ever!

Sadly I think the Postman was a bit heavy handed with the parcel and the two
bobbins have been broken during their journey to the UK. I am going to fix
them with some superglue though as the woods are lovely and I am sure that
they will still be useable.

Thank you one again.

Hi to my Secret Pal,

And many thanks for the package which arrived this morning - a lovely start to
the day!

The koalas on the needlecase are splendid, and I am delighted with the case
too - it will have my supply of curved needles in it, as soon as I finish
this!I am also very pleased indeed with the bobbin - that will be spangled
and put into use almost immediately too - I have to renew some threads on the
garter for my daughter, so it is very handy indeed.

However, the address was still slightly incorrect - the 'Stratford' bit was
omitted, so I'll let you have the full address again - as follows:

Mrs Carol Adkinson

The package had the post code on it, so it reached me, but I suppose its
bettter safe than sorry, isn't it.

Once again, many thanks indeed - take care, and may your pins never bend!

Many thanks for your lovely parcel of wonderful gifts.

I will be totally honest and let you know that it arrived last Friday. I have
however been busy entertaining my nephew visiting from Canada. My children
were so excited to see him so I am sure you can imagine it has been a very
hectic time. Now he is visiting other relatives and I have time to catch up!
I am so sorry for the delay in acknowledging your parcel.

I could smell the gorgeous aroma from the soap before I opened the parcel -
that one will be kept for special soaks in the bath when I need to relax!!
The beads are very special and will definitely come in useful. The sewing
machine badge is fun and will go on my pin cushion.

The quilting patten looks great. I have never attempted this sort of quilting
before - but my mum has! Maybe she will do it for me

We had a lovely holiday - thank you for asking. It was very relaxing and nice
and hot too. Don't worry about getting my son's name wrong (it was very close
anyway) - he definitely enjoyed the lollipop!! It lasted for ages!!

Once again, thank you for everything.

Dear Secret Pal in Belgium,

Thank you very much for this months parcel. It was a nice surprise when I

I can't wait to start the bracelet, the colour is perfect, it goes with
everything that I wear. I am going to use a translator I found on the
internet to make sure I know what the instructions say. It will be fun to
do. I will wear it and show it off at my next lace event.

The beads on the divider pin are so pretty, I think I will use it as a pin

know where there is an extra one.

The card is lovely, the work that went into that project is unbelieveable.

Thank you so much again for being such a great secret pal.

Dear Secret Pal

Thank you for another lovely parcel which arrived this morning. You must
have bought loads of that pretty wrapping paper in my favourite colour!
This parcel was just great, as always.

I love the little teddy, and he supports such a good cause too. I support
Breast Cancer Charities myself, as my Mum was a victim. The emery board is
in another of my favourite colours and will be saved for a special occasion!
The little candle holder and candle are so pretty - almost too pretty to
use - and the apron will be pressed into service over Christmas, as the one
I have now is a bit past its best, to say the least. (VBG) The little coin
purse is so sweet. I like the belt loop on the back, and it will be so
useful when I take the dogs for a walk, as I will not have to take my bag,
but will have some change handy for parking etc.

The serviettes/napkins you sent me in a previous parcel have been used and
admired when we have had special visitors. I have never seen such pretty
ones in England.

I am greatly looking forward to finding out who you are next month. Thank
you once again for my parcel.

Hello to a very generous person!

I was delighted to receive my package this morning! and what lovely goodies,
beautifully wrapped, and with a lovely (hand-made) card too - what a person of
talents!

The wind-chimes are delightful - I am one of those who cannot go into a store
selling windchimes without giving them a try, so I am really pleased with
them. I will hang them over the window catch in the 'Lace Place' so that
every breath of wind will activate them, and I will be reminded of you.

The little calendar is very handy, so that is already stuck to the computer
monitor - saves me straining to see the wall-chart my husband has on the wall,
which is too high for me to see clearly, so that is greatly appreciated. The
tape measure is a stroke of genius too - my 'Lacemakers' Circle' tape has just
given up the ghost, so you must be psychic! Did you do the cross-stitch
yourself - it is lovely, and will be treasured. Especially if it helps the
inches of lace grow into yards ...

The key-ring!No one else can 'borrow' it as it has my initial on it, so I
am very pleased indeed with it - I do thank you very much.

So - thank you so very much for all the goodies - I am really pleased, and do
hope that your SP is as good to you!

Love and God Bless,

Hello to my Secret Pal,

Well - firstly, I think you were very brave to sign up for the exchanges when
you are moving house!Isn't that supposed to more stressful than almost
anything else in life - but it sounds as if you are coping well!

The package was delightful to receive! The small of the lavender even
before I opened the package fully was great - I love the scented sachets, and
the toiletries, and they are in use already. One of the sachets is in my
car, and the other strung over the lamp above the computer - it will stop us
getting stressed, I am sure.

The colour of the thread is lovely too. I am getting (very gradually!) more
adventurous with colures, and those muted colours I love. I will now have to
find a 'special' pattern to use it. The little pink bag is super too - in
fact, the lavender sachet is in that, in my car, so every time I turn a
corner, I am reminded of you and your generosity!

Now the ear-rings. What can I say? I am delighted with them, and am looking
forward to wearing them - roll on Easter Day!!!You'd be surprised - I love
the shell, and one of my class members toured Australia and New Zealand in a
camper van for three months last year, and brought back some earrings - but
she asked me to spangle a pair of bobbins with them as her ears aren't
pierced, and she very rarely wears ear-rings. I was pleased to do it for
her, but was very envious, as the Paua shell is so lovely - but now I have my
own, so I am pleased indeed.

I also owe you an apology for last month!I didn't mention the package of
'Mud' toiletries, did I.It wasn't because I wasn't pleased, it was because
they were already in my bathroom, being used, so thank you so much for them -
I sometimes have trouble as my skin is awkwardly sensitive, but they aren't
causing any problems, and are definitely doing good!

So - thank you once again for everything, I will hope that the move goes well
and in a trouble-free manner, and also hope that your SP is as good to you!

Love and God Bless,

Carol - your Secret Pal.

Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you so much for my latest parcel that did not come late at all but right
on time.

I love the socks especially the colours and will probably wear them with
boots.

Thank you also for the stamps and the teddy scented sachet that perfumed the
parcel beautifully.

The keyring scissors are a great idea as you never have a pair when you need
them.

I hope that your trip and reunion go well if you are going to be near Heathrow
let me know as I am only a couple of miles away !

My dear Secret Pal,

Well - another lovely package, and timed just right too!The card is
beautiful, with lovely words, so I will treasure that. Friends have been so
kind, and sent such lovely cards, and they all help to make an awful situation
just that bit more bearable.

The 23rd Psalm is one of my favourites, and, along with the other little card
'God is before me' has gone straight into my Missal - I am so pleased with
them both, and again, will treasure them.

The beads are great - I love spangling, and I very often get the urge to
re-spangle bobbins, so I will have a good supply of beads to use!The tin
is lovely too - I love collecting tins of all sorts of shapes and sizes, so
you can rest assured that it will be put to good use - possibly as a safe
haven for beads and ready-made up spangles, so I do thank you for it. The
chocolates inside it didn't last very long at all, so you can guess how
pleased we were with those ...

The thread is great - you can never have too much thread, can you!The
patterns I am (still) designing for my sister's charity tend to use the DMC
crochet cotton, so it will be well-used indeed.

Lastly, the little book of Hope is lovely, and so inspirational - I have kept
it by my bed, with my prayer books, so it is used almost every night!

Thank you so much for your gifts - I think of you each time they are used, and
I am so grateful!

Love and God Bless,

Carol - in Suffolk UK - where it is wet and not as warm as it should be!As
soon as they slap a hose-pipe ban on us, the rain appears - maybe a hose-pipe
ban is the UK equivalent of a rain dance ...

Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you for my parcel which came today. I'm glad nothing wrong happened
to you, just a problem with your computer.

I love the glass bobbin with the willemite in it and the little stone hart
too. In the village where I live there were stone quarries till 1960, no
willemite but blue limestone. Now the quarries became a natural reserve and
the house of the quarry master became a stone museum. I'm tourist guide for
the town of Ath and also for the stone museum, so this present is really
appropriate and appreciated.

The hibiscus pattern is wonderful. I just finished a duchesse design and my
duchesse lace pillow is empty. Perhaps I will try this one and the pin cup
will go on the pillow also. I have pincushions but they don't fit for the
little duchesse pins, the pin cup will be perfect.

The pencils are welcome in the lace design equipment and a little note set
is always useful.

Thank you once again for the lovely parcel.

To my awesome Secret Pal,

I received your parcel today - DH brought to work for me after he had
been home for lunch. I love it when he does that, it really makes my
day :-)

The bobbin holder is so lovely. I really love the bobbin pattern on the
outer cloth, and to find the bobbin snug inside it was such a bonus. I
love the colours on the bobbin - I am a big fan of strong colours. As
for the wee note-box and pencil, that is just so cute. I am not quite
sure yet where I will put it. it will be somewhere that I can see and
use it regularly.

I do hope you enjoy your trip to Greece and Athens. Cretan lace is a
needle lace, isn't it?

How lovely to be able to share a hobby with your mother. I have the
incredible privilege of sharing the craft of card making with my DD -
it's just such a pity that she lives a distance from us.

Once more, thank you f or you gift, it is really appreciated.

2006-06-15 Thread Carol Adkinson
Hello to my Secret Pal

Well - the package brightened up a decidedly gloomy week! I have just come
out of hospital, after suffering the pain of a kidney stone which felt like
the Rock of Gibraltar, and fully expecting to have it all sorted! But -
right up until Sunday afternoon, I assumed they were going to blast it to
smithereens this week - then was told that, as there were a lot of admissions
to the Ward on Sunday and Monday, I would have to go home, and wait to be
called back. At which point they will repeat all the tests they have already
done, and make an appointment to have it all fixed .

We will see.

Anyway - as you can doubtless imagine, I was so pleased to receive the parcel!
The thread is lovely, so I am going to have to choose the project very
carefully to use it - I'll let you know what I decide. I am also delighted
with the little tool keeper - and even more pleased that you had obviously
made it yourself! The flower is lovely, and I do thank you so much - it
will be used constantly, and I will therefore think of you a lot.

The whirly note pad is great - we get through a lot of notepads in our house,
but I think this one is too special to use for 'ordinary' notes - only special
notes will be written on it. The tea-towel is delightful with all those
kiwis - it will be used as a pillow cover, so that everyone who sees it will
admire it.

Now - you must really be psychic!I was due to go to a Lace Day last
Saturday, but was in hospital, being dosed up with morphine (and what a
difference that makes)! So - my long list of needs and wants wasn't used,
but top of the list came a storage thingy for the beads - and now, thanks to
you, I have one! So - many thanks indeed for all your kindness, and I do
hope you are as lucky with your Secret Pal as I am with mine! I am looking
forward to next month, as I am so wanting to know who you are - you have given
a few clues but I wonder if I am correct.

Anyway - thanks once again for your kindness, and I shall look forward to next
month, to finally find out who my delightful Secret Pal is.

Yours with love and God Bless,

Carol, in Suffolk UK

Dear Secret Pal,

I received your parcel Wednesday, it was a sunray after a gloomy day.

The day before was so sad : I first went to the funeral of a friend, in the
afternoon I learned that my mother-in-law was taken to hospital and in the
evening our old cat was run over by a car. One should be able to erase such
days !

Anyhow, thank you so much for the special goodies that you sent.

The magnetized notepads and magnets are already on the fridge.

The sewing kit will go in my suitcase so I'll take it with me in Spain next
month. I'll have something to do during my free time after the lace lessons
I'll give there. When it will be finished I'll put my lace tools for
demonstration in it and certainly the little cutter you also sent. This one
seems really convenient to cut threads close to your work.

I looked at the postcards also. You live in a beautiful region !

I'm looking forwards to next month when I will learn who you are.

Thank you again.

Dear secret pal somewhere in the Northwest;

unless you are being very tricky in your clues, I have a quadrant
of the US to place you. Your gifts are so Pacific Rim, you have to
be on the West Coast. But on the other clues, I'm lost.

Thanks for the package. It arrived in good time but I have been
taking some work training which is knocking me out.

Thanks for the travel bobbins. No, I don't have a travel pillow
but these are just great for keeping the threads from tangling.

The candle is fun. It made me hungry for watermelon! They are in
season or it would have been torture.

The Seattle skyline is striking. Reminds me that I once looked into
moving there. Now that we are starting our summer, it sounds nice.
All we get in SoCal in the summer is too much heat and too much
smog.

It may seem odd, but me 12 yo son confiscated the lavender soap.
It's his favorite smell. I'm hoping that bathing with it will
help him sleep at night.

He will share the incense with me but I didn't even let him see
the lace. It is mine-- thank you.

And I will plant the flowers in the front. I just have to figure
out how to keep the gardener from mowing them or stepping all over
them. He really is a great gardener and a very nice man, but he
has cleared out my poppy starts three times this year. Guess I
need to learn Spanish.

thanks for making this so much fun.

i love opening your parcels : a cascade of items wrapped in beautiful paper
that come as so many surprises ...
you seem to have a really good shopping corner for coffees and teas ! the
coffee was delicious and the tea is real surprising : i never thought of
mixing tea and lavender . it smells heavenly . it's brewing while i'm
writing so i can have a taste of it as soon as i have finished .. VBG.. of
course my mug's on one of the coasters . you have the knack for finding the
most incredible things related to lace ...
the brooch is *too much* as kids say here with a thick french accent ..
i'll proudly wear it next week-end at the Creully lace day in Normandy .
all details about it here
http://blondecaen.chez.tiscali.fr/creugb.htm#E%20CREULLYGB
the sun catcher is definitely arachne. i think i'll to turn it into a
pattern someday .. i was wondering what a suncatcher was for ? i guess it
has something to do with crystals and bringing health or luck or energy .
at the moment it's proudly sticking out on my bedroom window pane. as most
people i know dislike spiders i thought it wouldn't do in the living room
... lol ..the cat wasn't interested in the least which is a good thing
because everything he toys around with disappears under the furnitures or
the carpets ..
the handkerchieves will come in handy for my next cold though i'm not sure
i'll use them : they' re much too pretty. i'll use them to brighten the day
in winter ..

thanks again for this marvellous parcel ... you've guessed i'm eagerly
waiting for august .. wondering what you'll come up with ... G...

Dear Secret Pal:

I got the package today and was very impressed at how early
you were! I mean, it's only the 11th and here is August's
package (ok, so now you have a clue about how totally confused
I am). How did you know we would be on vacation the first week
of August! I was so impressed with your ultra-organization.

And, even though I thought it was for August, I ripped into it.
Ate the candy immediately, will bathe with the aloe/cucumber soap
(the whole package smelled of it, so lovely), will bathe Sunday in
the green tea bath salt, will have to put my glasses on to put the
tiny Mouse Trap game together (and not drink coffee for a day
so I have steady hands), quickly put the lace roll away to use
someday when I actually have enough lace to roll up, have found
some GREAT instructions for preparing poppy plants by freezing the
seeds and then starting them (which is good because my very kind
and hardworking gardener keeps clearing away my poppy starts)
and to top it all off, the goddess pendant was a bonus.
If you can easily get another, that would be lovely because my
son appropriated it. That is when I realized this package was
 a not-so tardy July package.

Your special spot for tatting is beautiful and looks much cooler
 than we have been today.

What a treat-- unanticipated presents. Poor memory and organiz-
 ation has its benefits.

[lace-chat] Secret Pal - Merry Christmas!

2003-12-19 Thread Patty Dowden
Hi Secret Pal,

I have been pestering my husband every day asking "Did it come?" and today,
it did! I got your wonderful package. Receiving it at any time would have
been a treat, but it arrived with plenty of time to spare for a Christmas
delivery. As for January, the later the better. I always need a winter
lift when all the glitz and activity of Christmas subsides. (But it's not
winter where you are, is it?) So you're going to be off on a
post-Christmas, **summer** holiday. California is not a very seasonal
place. It is colder now, but just cold enough for a sweater, really. And
it's been raining some, but hardly a dramatic seasonal change.

I'm one of those people who doesn't think I need more than one of any
thing, but now that I have two new pin cushions in as many months, I can
see a real benefit of having each type of pin on a different cushion. And
the cover cloth is charming. The print is busy with needles and scissors
and spools of thread, but the texture is so silky smooth, just lovely.

I really like the two bobbins and I must say that being not quite the same
is just my style. There is a family story about the time I was sent to get
new bath towels. I picked a polka dotted one and a striped one and a blue
flowered one and so on until we had enough. It never occurred to me to get
a MATCHING set.

Do you know what wood the bobbins are made of, some native New Zealand type
of wood, perhaps? I have collected an assortment of bobbins that capture
my interest and I've about decided that all my unspangled bobbins need to
be dressed properly (I am a dedicated square bobbin user, even have square
binche bobbins), but I am not sure that it will be with beaded
spangles. Maybe beaded lace frills (since I won't use them, but want to
display them instead.) H. I'll have to think about that.

I got a kick out of the New Zealand Lace Society magnet. It is always so
interesting to see how each group symbolizes the art of lacemaking. I
think the New Zealand symbol is kind of like a secret handshake. If you're
not a lacemaker, you won't know that it shows two spiders and a stylized
worker pair. Has anyone in New Zealand every worked the symbol in
thread? It would make a dandy motif.

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful trip in January,

Thanks for all the goodies,

Patty Dowden

Hi to my special secret pal from maybe Florida. I got your package and I
love your lace. It is beautiful. I really loved the card and that is my first
lacemaker postcard. Is is great. I do need to ask you to forgive me. I
somehow got my Christmas message to you in a not sent folder and I just found it.
I opened my packages on Christmas and I am wondering if you are not secretly
my neighbor. I loved the bookmark and the bobbin was beautiful but the book,
WOW. I am taking an email class on 1st Peter and that is what we are studying
in my Sunday School class, verse by verse. I was wanting some of this series
and 1st Peter was too cool. I was so excited that I almost caused my sweet
husband to go deaf. Thank You so very much for all my goodies. What a cool

hello dear secret pal

you've sent me matter for endless daydreaming : all about Tasmania and in
french and a card from Port Arthur . i never thought there was a
penitentiary in Tasmania . Anyway i know more about australian flaura and
fauna than about the people. the fault goes to tv programmes .. lol ..
there still are a lot of australian documentaries on ..
i do have a soft spot for Australia so the pin and the vividly coloured
cloth were welcome with enthusiasm ... i don't know whether the glass frog
is native but i shamelessly have to akcknowledge i clapped in glee and
immediately put it among its friends of all shape, size and colors
the tea towel is so pretty i don't think i'll ever use it as such ..

in short : you've made my day and i can't thank you enough. hope your day
will be as good as mine.

the glitter when she goes out, not that she does very often, the lavender
hand cream is so nice. and another special bobbin, the sea horse is

Dear Secret Pal with the changing identity

Thank you for another great package which arrived on Saturday, actually
it's a package full of packages - must have taken you ages to wrap
everything so beautifully. I have already put some of the beads onto
bobbins; and I'm intrigued by the cards, especially the one with
applied lace.

At first I thought it was a piece of embroidered net and looked at at
closely to see if it was hand or machine run and it's neither! Looks
to be some sort of paint applied to the underneath of the net. I've
not seen anything quite like it before. Did you make it or was it
commercially produced? Either way it's going into my lace collection
although I would like to know the name of the technique.

Thank you

I really must say i am so lucky to have a SP that seems so in tune with
me.
You have touched me with your thoughtfulness, letting me have a pair of
bobbins that have sentimental value.i will treasure them always. ( they are
so very beautiful !)
I have just started my first small square mat in torchon, so the piece you
have sent will be invaluable as i compare me work in progress with how a
finished piece should look. (with luck and determination i hope mine shall turn out
half as pretty)
The tea smells delicious, blackcurrent is a favorite of mine, the
pincushion will be most useful, and the bathbeads used in those moments of stress
after
a long day at work to soothe and redirect my thoughts from work to lacemaking
and Brittain.
I empathise with your 3 hour trip home due to inclimate weather. Seattle
really doesn't get much snow it seems we get a couple days a year but it's
typically a laughably small amount to freeze traffic the way it does. Just a few
inches and there is panic(which i do feel also- the thought of being on the road
with people who are not willing to drive slowly and cautiously Terrifies me.
:-) They get much heavier snow up in the Mountains or Eastern Washington.
After i find out who you are I'll send some pretty snow pictures your way!
Well, i'll be quiet now, and go back to lurking for another month.
Thank you ever so much, you are sending truely thoughtful and neat gifts!

Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you for the last parcel, it arrived yesterday and I took great delight
in opening it. The Bobbin is lovely, and you are certainly spoiling me, as in
Tassie there are not many bobbin makers and they don't make lovely fine ones.
The beads are great and such a useful mix, I spent last night looking through
them. The wire is always much needed and of course the thread. We do not
have any thread suppliers in Tasmania so I just love to receive thread, I have
used the Tanne and the DMC before but I am looking forward to using the C & F
Linen thread, so when I have finished the Garter that I am currently working
on (only 5" to go), I will start something with the linen.

Hello Secret Pal,

The package arrived the middle of last week and the timing couldn't have
been better. It was a real treat in a very busy time. My son is involved
in a ballet that is performing this week and on the weekend. I have been
sewing costumes constantly and driving him the 1-1/2 hours back and forth
to rehearsals for the last couple of weeks. I had planned to send a thank
you this last weekend but I ended up hardly being at home.

I loved the snips. We had them at the theatre that I used to work for and
I've meant to purchase a pair since then but never got around to it. The
little honiton snowman bobbin is really cute and the needle kit has come at
a good time as a couple of my other ones are slowly disappearing through
the ballet. And I'm I real fan of maple syrup so I loved the candies.

Thanks for brightening up my week,

Thank you for this month's package - it arrived the middle of this week. I

with. The notepad and the sticky notes are great especially the really
little ones. I run a book club with my 7th graders and they will be very
handy for marking passages in the books (I'm always ripping up bigger
ones). The ruler is really neat - I haven't seen one like it before. Now
I have to figure out what I will put in the center. And I always love any

Anne - I wonder did your secret pal tell you that possums also have the habit
of staging large, noisy fights in the tree-tops at night?? We have
ring-tailed possums in our neighbourhood (in suburban Sydney - you don't have
to live in the country to have possums around) and they apparently have a
variety of homes around the area, moving onto the next one when they've
exhausted the food in a particular area. They were very noisy here a few
months ago, till one night they came down out the trees and ate ALL the new
plants (many, many pounds worth!) in our garden. A couple of nights later, I
noticed all was quiet, and discovered they'd moved on (presumably to the next
freshly-planted garden!) The ring-tailed (so called because they have a white
ring around the tail) possums use the overhead electricity wires as a sort of
aerial footpath to walk along and cross the streets. It's a bit hair-raising,
watching them - they wobble so much I keep waiting for them to fall off, but
I've never seen one fall yet.

I really like the pillow tidy - I have pinned it on my current project to

designed by Odette Arpin. And the bobbins will come in handy for my next
venture, a black silk Cluny edging. And the pin is wonderful!!! I love
it. The tape measure is already in my sewing bag that I take with me 'on
the road'. I'm currently working on ballet costumes for my son's ballet
company and I have to take all my sewing materials to rehearsals as several
of us spend that time working on the costumes. The thread cutter will come
in handy as well, as I can leave it on my serger (which doesn't have a
thread cutter built in).

Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts.

daughter has already unwrapped the cross stitch so I can start on it

have any keys to add to it and my key chain really needs renewing. The pin
is really cute - I love ladybugs. And I love the bobbin. I don't have
many decorated ones so this was a real treat. Now I need to start a new

2005-04-14 Thread JMMAcademy
What a great secret pal. I got my package today. To start with the lady
bug and the ladybug Welcome garden stake are so precious. The ladybug
buttons will have to go on something very special. The parasol sachet is in my
drawer and the shampoo, conditioner, and washrag are in my bathroom. The
celestrel bobbin is on my pillow for my new project and the notepad is on my
desk. I
love that Scripture so much. The coffee has already been drank with my honey
bunch. Thank You so much you made my day after spending 4 hours of having
tests run at the hospital. Thank You so much.Hannah

[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thank You

2005-04-26 Thread Cindy Rusak
Dear Secret Pal,
I should have emailed a couple of days ago but our cat decided to have her
kittens under the computer desk so we have tried to minimize the use of the
computer. It has been quite exciting especially for the children. I don't
know how many chances they will have to witness a live birth - I won't go
into the details but suffice it to say this wasn't planned.

Thank you so much for the great gifts this month! The bone bobbin pendant
is beautiful and I will have to find some really special beads to spangle
it with -as well as to spangle the other beautiful bobbin. I had read all
the messages a while ago about the horseshoe so was really pleased to get
one. I have a piece on the go now that will certainly benefit from it once
I get to the halfway point as the threads will start to overlap the
pins. And now that my knee has healed up enough I can soak in the bath
with my fizzie ball. The cover cloth turned out to be a bag which is great
because I don't have a nice bag to carry all my lacemaking odds and ends
when I'm travelling. And of course the chocolate disappeared fairly quickly!

I have finally got over trying to figure out what I ordered from the UK
every time your parcel arrives. Now I spend the walk back to the house
wondering what wonderful things you could have sent me this month!

Thank you,
Cindy

2005-05-23 Thread Cindy Rusak

Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you for the wonderful goodies this month. The cat card was most
appropriate. The kittens are so much fun now - I don't know if I'm going
to be able to give them all up! The spider card is really beautiful so
I'll have to save it for a special person. The tea towel is too nice to
use to dry dishes so I'm going to use it as a cover cloth. The key chain
mount I will use for myself and maybe even the coaster mount, though it
would also make a nice gift for someone once I get the lace done for the
inside. The eye cream will definitely come in handy as the age wrinkles
start to set in. And thank you s much for the glass bobbin! It is
beautiful and I'm almost scared to use it. Just before the parcel arrived
I had been looking at some on eBay so I was very pleasantly surprised to
find one in the package.

Last month I forgot to thank you for those wonderful threads you sent. The
variegated Oliver Twist is gorgeous!

Well I'm hoping for some nice days this week to get some gardening done but
there seems to be some rain in the forecast.

Thank you again for the great gifts,
Cindy Rusak

2005-05-24 Thread JMMAcademy
Dear Secret pal. I am so sorry if this is not a repeat thank you. My
computer has been on the blink off and on all month. To top it off I have been
demonstrating Bobbin lace and spinning every weekend since the 30th of April.

I did love my package so very much. I shared the coffee at a guild meeting.
The chocoltes went fast. My 3 kids were right there to see what you sent. I
have the jewel candle holder and tea candle on my bedside table. I had to
make the ladybug kit up immediately. Lady Olivia the puppet and the metal bell
ladybug are hanging up and looking so cute. The ladybug bookmark is in my
Bible. The beautiful Angle bobbin is on one of my demonstration pillows. What
a
truely wonderful package. I I love it all so much. I hope that Ive
already sent a thank you but if not please forgive me. Thank You so much.

2005-06-01 Thread Faye Owers
Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you for the lovely gifts that you have sent. The first thing I did was
boil the jug and make myself a lovely cup of Yorkshire Tea, just what I needed
at the end of a long working day. The travelling brush will be just the thing
that I need to take with me when I go to Europe and UK in August/September, I
will also be able to put my photos of the trip in the lovely photo albums.
The lady bird pin is lovely and will be put onto my lace bag. Our daughter is
staying with us tonight as she is on School Holidays so I expect to have to
share the lovely chocolate but my hips will appreciate that. The last present
was so special a beautiful old bobbin, I love it and love using them as my
imagination runs wild thinking who may have used it before me.

I hope your fortunes change soon and you can spend some quality time
travelling and enjoying life

Thank you again

2005-07-12 Thread Alice Howell

To my secret pal,

After spending 11 hours at the fairgrounds I found your package. I was
trying to remember what I had bid for on eBay from UK when I opened it. I
didn't remember bidding an any of those items, then I saw your
note. Thanks so much for the surprise.

I can use everything you sent. The thread is really nice. I tested the
thread size against Brenda's book, and it's the same as Fresia 70/2. Now I
know what size pattern to choose. I look forward to making a special
something with it.

The sewing kit is so useful, and so compact. I may travel to IOLi with me
next month. The bobbins are most interesing. I really like different
woods in my bobbins. They are now in line to get some real special
spangles. And the bookmark covers will be enjoyed. I was out of that size
and can really use them.

Thank you for all the goodies. It cheered up a very long day!

2005-07-12 Thread Cindy Rusak

Dear Secret Pal,

I have been away for a couple of weeks and just got home Sunday night. I
am not sure when the parcel arrived as my husband was away for a while as well.

The pin box is beautiful!! What a wonderful gift! I often use boxes or
containers for my pins and am always worrying about them spilling
everywhere so this box is perfect. The pyrography is great. I loved the
card - did you do the tatting? The divider pins will be very handy for a
length of Cluny that I am currently working on. I have an old French
roller pillow and I need to separate sets of bobbins. And I will be
sharing the chocolates with just my husband this week as all our children
are at camp or their grandparents. It would be a great holiday for me but
I have to get my daughter's room painted this week.

Thank you so much for the great gifts.
