I read a number of great web comics and once in a while something stands out
to be shared. This recent page from Sandra and Woo is one of them. I might
even be so bold as to say that anyone who does not 'get it' is not a real
programmer. Of course, others would disagree and a fight would ensue, which
fits the context perfectly. :)

RE: Eclipse not respnding

2015-04-15 Thread Eric Roberts

You can go into the config.ini and increase the memory limits, that usually
helps, but I have been having issues with Luna (not sure what version you
are on) where large pages will be real slow...like when I am typing, I can
type a whole line before the 1st three letters appear on the line and also
having the app freeze up when trying to save. Sublime Text is pretty
awesome for a lightweight editor.

RE: Cutting the Cable

2015-03-02 Thread Eric Roberts

1500.00? How much do you pay for cable and internet? You can save some
money, but 1500 a month?Up until recently, I didn't have cable. I just
watched Netflix and Amazon Prime via my Roku device on my TV and the online
apps on my computer and tablet/phone. You can also stream video via playon
with the Roku device and your computer...so if you have DVD's or other
videos on your computer, you can view them via the playon app on the Roku
device. I have used it a little bit and performance seemed ok. You are
installing the playon server software on your computer and the Roku app is
the client, so the network is all internal. Hulu is another option. I
never really got into the Hulu stuff as much as I did Netflix and
Amazon...but some people swear by it. I love my Roku device. Get the $99
one...it has more features and you can even play games on it. It only works
with HDMI capable TV's.

Unfortunately, the place I am in the middle of moving to only has Comcast
(grr)...so I have cable again...I had to drop my AT&T internet account. I
figured if I was going to sell my soul...I may as well go whole hog LOL.

Honestly, how long do you think ISIS will last before the local populations

To my mind ISIS could be the very thing that causes the needed internal

RE: Adobe Phonegap Build question...

2015-01-07 Thread Eric Roberts

That's what it was...I was reading the phonegap build instructions and they
said to just put the "www" folder contents in build (from a Cordova app) and
the recent version of Cordova moved the config.xml out of the www folder and
put it into the root. Once I put a copy of the config.xml in the root (the
www folder in the orginal Cordova app) and configured that properly, things
worked just fine :-D

It looks for the widget ID in config.xml and since I didn't have a
config.xml in the code root, it apparently defaulted to something that was
the same in both of the apps.

Thanks!

Adobe Phonegap Build question...

2015-01-06 Thread Eric Roberts

Does anyone have any experience using the Adobe Phonegap Build website? I
have been playing around with it as we needed a better way to kep our
private application updated remotely without using the app store or iTunes.
Hydration on the Build site works perfectly. The problem I am having is
that if I try to load the 2 apps I have created on the site on a device, iOS
or Android.doesn't matter, the device looks at the app as the same app even
though they are 2 different apps with 2 different file names. According to
the website, they both have different app id's. Am I missing something in
the setup? I am an absolute noob when it comes to mobile apps, so I am
kinda blindly poking around. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong, I would
appreciate the help.

2014 was a tough year for me, best described as a long hilly drive with kids
in the back. There have been good times but also some pretty rough times.
My resolution is to do everything I can to make 2015 better, fiscally and

That sounds nebulous, but most resolutions are. I actually started well
before Christmas but am making it a resolution to continue.

This is so laughable! Wonder when the party supporters are going to impeach
their own representatives for wasting so much time, or when supporters are
going to pull their funds for wasting them on Benghazi! Or when Fox news
executives are going to instruct their staff to apologise for the thousands
of hours spent talking about a conspiracy that was fabricated, and not
having the investigative journalist skills to realise that?

A young lady whom I know had bent over in my presence recently and her shirt
rode up some. On her lower back was the indentations of the bungee cords
that made up the chair she was just sitting in. I mentioned that it looked
like an S stamp (there were younger kids present so I didn't want to be more
specific).
She disagreed with me and said it was a T stamp. I kept saying S and she
kept saying T. She must have thought I didn't understand so she said in pig
Latin that it was a Ramptay stamp, not a Lutsay stamp.
So the question goes out to you. Is it Ramptay or Lutsay?

Isn't it great when people can talk intelligently with each other? ;)

My premium stayed the samebut i now pay for EVERY medical issue out of
my pocket. It's basically like i have no coverage at all. It's catastrophic
coverage is what it is. If someone gets deathly ill and spends a month in
the hospital, i'll be out 10 grand or so, but not go completely bankrupt.
Gee thanks.

For that same price i used to get coverage on everything. Doc visits were
$20. Many other things were free to me.

SOMEONE is getting more money out of mei'm just curious who it is.

Not to mention poor sanitation and infected drinking sources. The guy that
came over here got it because he helped to carry his infected sister or
cousin...I forget which offhand) who ended up dying. It is transmitted
through the sweat, so when you pick a body up (and touch their skin or come
in contact with cloth that is soaked with their seat, blood, puke, etc...),
of someone that has died or is infection, you get infected. It's can also
be transmitted sexually up to 6 weeks after recoverythey are trying to
get males to make sure they wear condoms in the nations where the epidemic
has been declared over to try and prevent a resurgence of it.

I've been listening to the doctors that have been working on the ground in
African countries.

The reason it's more infectious "over there" is for two reasons - one
cultural because of the funeral rites of many tribes that include washing,
dressing and even kissing the body of the deceased. The other is capacity
which has been documented. (
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/13/kissing-the-corpses-in-ebol
a-country.html

In the US the second of those issues is not an issue. The first might be a
challenge but even then facilities are available.

In short, I'm not buying the fear or the hype.

I've read a bit about this. Many of the more modern weapons use shells that
have come pretty toxic components. These components are not banned as
chemical weapons since they are not designed to have an immediate impact
(chemically or biologically) on the target, but they are not good at all for
the long environment where they have been used.

I know i have vastly different views on politics than anyone else.

I think it's a disease, and people who engage in it actively are sick. I'd
rather butt fuck the ebola virus than go to a political rally. Giving your
time and excitement and worst of all, your money, to some asshole so he can
get a cushy 6 figure salary, all because he sold you hook line and sinker on
his brand of bullshitmakes no sense to me.

At least at Disneyland you realize you're being sodomized by a giant rodent.

It was a great rally She gave a great speech as did Gov. Quinn, Senator
Durbin, and a host of other IL office holders. The UIC Pavilion was
packed...it was pretty awesome. Last time I had been there was a for a
Godsmack/Staind concert back in 1999...parking sure hasn't improved LOL. I
ended up having to park almost a mile away...I parked at Teamster
City...it's an office building with a bunch of teamster and other union
offices. My daughter, Rhiannon, really enjoyed it. You know you are doing
parenting right when a 9 year old gets as excited about a political rally as
she would for Disneyland LOL

I was an Apple convert. Had a 17 inch MacBook pro. Wife and I both had I
phones. I was all in.

When it came time to replace the MacBook Pro, I tried to justify the cost
difference. For me, a Mac did not make me more productive. Many claim it
makes them much more productive - leading me to believe that either I did
not know how to use OS X, or they don't know how to use Windows. None of the
tools I use for web development are Mac specific and are all cross platform.

For me, I saw no advantage of one OS over the other, so I went with what
cost less. Which was a Windows machine from Dell.

The click wheel interface was pretty innovative at the time. I remember that
my brother had one from Dell at the same time I got my first iPod classic.
Hands down, it was easier to navigate the iPod. The other difference was the
quality of the components. Audiophiles would use the iPod along with the
FLAC codec to store their digital collections because of the quality if the
DAC.

As for apple products being overpriced, I'm sure there are a lot of people
that feel that way. I don't happen to be one of them. I also think that
other companies have quality products e.g. Lenovo, but you end up spending a
similar amount because you have to get the higher end product.

How did they do an MP3 player better than anyone else? Even the cheap
crappy ones you can buy for 5 bucks play music just as good. My old
Creative Labs MP3 player that came out long before there was ever an iPod
played music just as good as an iPod years before there was an iPod. It
synced with my computer's music folder...the only thing special about it was
the introduction of iTunes to download music...though if I remember
correctly, my player hooked up with Rhapsody. I never saw what was so
innovative about it. Apple products are overpriced status symbols. Ever
since the PC's became just as powerful in the graphics department, Apple
hasn't been anything special. Hel...the only way they were able to improve
their OS was to make it a Linux shell...

The same applies to iPhones...if you still have the iPhone 4, you can't
upgrade to the latest OS either. When iPhone 8 or 9 is the latest and
greatest, you won't be able to upgrade to the latest version of iOS on your

For those of you wondering, here's what the iPhone 6 does better than any
other phone out there on the market:

The 64 bit A8 Processor is better and faster than anything else on the
market.

The fingerprint scanner is the best performing scanner on the market, and it
is absolutely better than Samsung's S5 implementation

The camera has an autofocus system usually reserved for DSLRs.

Hand off of tasks between Apple devices is great, and a productivity booster
for many. Pick up writing an email, an SMS, or sharing documents immediately
between devices. (moving from your desktop to your iPad in your bedroom, for
example, would be seamless)

ApplePay is a tremendous innovation, with the ability to radically change
the way we use Credit Cards

So these aren't necessarily revolutionary changes, but neither has anything
the competition has done been revolutionary.

However, once again, Apple takes its incremental improvements and implements
them correctly and with a marketing flair that appeals to its customer base.
Which is why the iPhone launch always boast the best sell throughs of any
mobile device.

I read his story this morning. Very sad, and all too common tale i'm afraid.

Grew up in a military family. Wanted to be a soldier all his life.
Enlisted, and then re-enlisted when our second Iraq war deepened. Became
more and more disillusioned in our efforts in Iraq, then got wounded and
became entangled in the VA care mess, with long waits and miles of red-tape
before he got any of his benefits. Treated, unsuccessfully apparently, for
PTSD and depression.

This was a young man dedicated to helping his country.and this is how
he's been repaid. I don't know who's to blamemaybe these things just
happen, i dunnobut it's really sad. Just a sad story. I hope he gets the
help he needs and DESERVES.

If that is the case, then the independent departments that are investigating
the case will eventually bring murder charges against the police
officerwill they not?

SO let's wait and see.

RE: New video in the Ferguson shooting...

Exactly...that is the only reason they released the video of the incident at
the store, which had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting. The cop
wasn't even aware that anything had happened at the store yet. That was
pure character assassination of the victim so the police could enact a
coverup. With the exception of the cop's friend, everyone else's testimony
lined up with what we see in that video...

The fact that they used PR, misdirection to try to deflect an investigation

I'm not one for media trials.

I think every officer involved shooting should be investigated as a crime
first until cleared, I don't see that happening here.

The department in question has been damning Brown since hours after his
shooting, even releasing false and misleading information.

This video is from 2 construction workers who were 50 feet away from the
shooting when it happened. Notice the reaction these guys had and what they
were saying. Their testimony corroborates what witnesses have been saying
all along...that officer Wilson shot an unarmed teenager that was posing no
threat to him, without warning and without reason.

You should have a Refuah Shelama (a complete healing). I hope you're just
avoiding the political threads rather than bowing out of the list in
general.
On a related note, I'm rather impressed with our members on the whole. We
can and do fight like cats and dogs but I've seen people of opposing
viewpoints meet on some issues and have seen people who would kill each
other on one issue be able to put it totally aside when the issue wasn't
being discussed.

I'll point to Eric on this. We're of extremely different viewpoints on a
certain subject and can get downright nasty with each other when that
subject comes up but any other time we're not only civil but friendly. If he
needed me for something I'd be there to the best of my ability without any
hesitation. I think that this is a general assessment of the list members as
a whole.

But yes, some topics are just fodder for hard discussion, have the
attractive power of a black hole, and it can be tiring in the extreme.
Better to save the energy and heal.

After being essentially homeless for the last 13 months I can now say that
I've got a new home. It's not exactly where I want to be but I think it's
where I'm meant to be for some reason. I'm still renting and while the rent

(one of which is a guest room).
The only problem is that the house is located in a bump on the tail end of

The new address is 1478 Granada Place in Far Rockaway NY. If you look at it

In all the time looking for a new apartment I was essentially doing all of
my work on an old lenovo laptop that Clark Valberg gave me years ago. Even

convince my wife and kids that the car can wait an extra month or two as I

The point is not that what Rice did was right, normal or anything else.
The point is that this was and should have remained a private, personal
issue between two ADULTs!

Since when do you get to make decisions for an adult woman who is in a
relationship with a man?
WITH ZERO evidence that man is abusive towards her on an ongoing basis!??

What right do you have to diminish her mental capability, her being able to
think and make decisions for herself, based on your assumption that she is a
battered woman?

Wrong, Eric!

Ray is responsible for his actions. HOWEVER, the woman is responsible for
hers!

I'm just trying to get you to see the double-standard we have in this
society.
Woman want equality, but don't want the responsibility that comes with it!

If woman want equality, then the law has be to blind to gender. The
exception being in cases where gender plays a crucial factor such as in
rape.
Woman can't hide behind
their gender when it's convenient and then play the gender card when they
lose!

Or, in this case, society should stop playing the gender card for them!

Bull, Eric.

Being a public figure is not Eric's doing; it's the public's! No one asked
to make him to be a role model! Thousands of people make money off of Eric;
some millions.
Just because he becomes a role model (when he shouldn't) doesn't make
anything he does more or less worse than any other person.

And the charges were dropped against his wife because she was knocked out
AND because she's a woman. The charges would NOT have been dropped if she
had been a male friend of Ray's and they got into a fight.

Just go ahead a join the chorus of those who know best from the outside
looking in and destroy the lives of these people because mistakes were make
on both their parts.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! She shouldn't have started it and Ray should have
ended it in the way he did.

I tried to unsubscribe on the House of Fusion site last night because being
part of this discussion, and others, is a waste of time and non-productive.
Apparently, the unsubscribe
didn't take.

This is all ridiculous.

Not when you are a public figure. He makes money by being in the spotlight.
If it was you or me, then yeah, you would have some ground to stand on with
this argument. But this guy is a public figure and shit like this comes

them and no matter what they did to me. I have even been told I have anger

someone is inexcusable. It was inexcusable when she did it and it was
inexcusable when he did it. It doesn't matter if she hit him first or not.

Scott, families have a right to privacy as well.
And couples have disagreements, sometimes violent.
SLaps, kicks, pushes, plates thrown, cups thrown.. what world do you live in
if you have never seen this happen?

It doesn't reach the point of hospital visits, or getting knocked out, or
anything of the sort.
There is a difference.

I didn't see anyone accusing Ellen of being a serial abuser when she grabbed
a 9 iron and tried to brain tiger woods with it, then raced after his
fleeing car and smashed the windscreen.

Fact is the wife has spoken out again in a rage and told all the do gooders
, and those that claim they want to "help" her to leave her alone, she isn't
in danger or trouble and doesn't need help. She said that she and Rice had
issues, and they worked them out and are working them out, and all the
public and media is doing is destroying him and their family.

But I forgot, women are like 12 year old kids who can't make decisions, or
take responsibility for their actions.
This woman in particular needs the media, you and the rest of the world to
tell her what to do, and what to think, and how to behave since you have all
labelled her a broken battered person who needs the state to care for her.

I find that offensive.
Because you have zero information to support that position, so far no one
does.

No one has respected this woman, her rights or her privacy.
She and Rice have been used for ratings and to make money. Their situation
has been exploited.

If TMZ wanted to help, they could have quietly called her and spoken to her,
rather than splashed that video for the world to see.
If the NFL wanted to do anything but protect its name and its image they
could have sent people to speak to BOTH of them, trained professionals, to
find out what the hell was going on with its player and his family life.

No one wants to help, and no one cares whether help is needed or not. This
is about money at this point.

And I find it ridiculous that so many are pretending it is about the woman.
It isn't. It never was.

TMZ has just made millions from a domestic dispute between a husband and
wife, and ruined both their lives in the process.

Somehow, this is a win for human and civil rights, the women's rights
movement, a win against domestic violence, and a feel good moment for many
people who can pat themselves on the back and say to themselves "
Yes..Justice has been done" Or " At least this poor woman won't go through
what I went through" (nevermind they have no damned clue if she's going
through anything at all).

Ridiculous.

He was then charged with aggravated assault.

RE: Democrats set to lose the senate

2014-09-09 Thread Eric Roberts

The reason we switched away from a militia system is that it could no longer
serve our national defense needs. You are way behind the curve man.

That can come here and do us harm?

Not one.

A true border defense force and nationwide conscription in militia in time
of need, shared sacrifice and no foreign entanglements.

RE: Ray Rice

2014-09-09 Thread Eric Roberts

Personally I think they should both be castigated for using violence. I
don't know if I would necessarily call her a victim...she looks like she was
able to beat the crap out of him in return...not to excuse what he
did...both should have assault charges filed. Unless it can be shown that
she was purely defending herself...that is the standard that police use. If
both parties are hitting each other...both parties get arrested to sort it
out.

You can't get honesty out of any government agency. There's a new report of
some abuse even crime every day.

For Christ sake the CIA Judd got busted out spying on senators doing their
oversight.

IRS and DOJ are out of control

No, Scott, I'm not saying that. I said only what I said. Stop inferring from
my remarks.

I said a man has a right to defend himself if attacked by a woman. I would
not even hit my wife if she were to slap me. However, if a stranger, even a
woman, appeared to me to be a mortal threat, the stranger would be shot. For
instance, if she came at me with a knife or a gun, she would be shot. I'm
not going to take the chance of getting killed to avoid shooting someone.
She attacked and provoked a response. What should I do? Just allow her to
kill me?

But, concerning dressing provocatively: didn't you say you have daughters,
Scott?
Do you want them to go out in public dressed provocatively? If not, why not?

Lets see the proof that many do Rick...you made the initial claim...

8.7% BTW...that is not many...

Here's one state's results of it's search for wefare fraud...

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/01/08/3136631/lepage-welfare/

Here's another that says its 2-3%

http://www.roanen.com/presidential-thoughts-blog/how-much-is-welfare-fraud-c
osting-us

Here's another at 2%

http://spritzophrenia.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/how-bad-is-welfare-fraud-in-t

Sounds to me like it is more like some than many. Yes ther are people
abusing it...there always will be...but the bulk of the people are not
abusing it and are people that really need it.

The inclusion of social security next to welfare inflates the number to
prove your point is what I'm saying.

Then why is it that the bulk of the people on welfare programs are
conservatives? Red states consume more way more welfare dollars than blue
states do.

Let's start with 'personal responsibility'.

Liberals have abused the generosity of the American Public to the point that
welfare is now a way of life for half our population.

RE: Democrats set to lose the senate

2014-09-09 Thread Eric Roberts

Yeah he "ran" as a compassionate conservative...but that was where that
ended. Compassionate conservative is an oxymoron.

So those who have more money pay more money...so?

I can't find anything comparing Holder to other DOJ's...if you have some
links...

Yeah...as I said...he is liberal on the social issues for the most part, but
everything else, he has pretty much continued Bush policies. It's been a
major bone of contention amongst my fellow progressives.

There really hasn't been a whole done in regards to income
redistribution...that is a conservative boogeyman and Fox news seems to like
to throw out there, but I really don't see a whole lot going on in that
area. Welfare services have been cut back when they were needed the most.
The only income redistribution that has really been going on is for the rich
and all of the new tax breaks/continuation of old ones that were supposed to
expire. We have tons of money for tax breaks, but yet we have to cut food
stamps and military pay? That is a Bush move...

The federal government is smaller under Obama than it was under any other
president...

For some things you're absolutely right... I found this a funny compilation
http://www.buzzfeed.com/bennyjohnson/things-democrats-would-have-freaked-out
-about-if-bush-had-do#289ccxl

* HOWEVER *
Bush ran as a "compassionate conservative" for the 2000 election... I don't
recall if his tone changed in 2004 but then again I don't think it had to
given his competition.

Why I still call BS even though some policies have continued under Obama:
* The Affordable Care Act - This is a taxpayer funded healthcare management
system that requires Americans to purchase a product or be penalized by a
federal agency. It further directs and defines services provided to
americans and mandates employer level contributions to plans. It also
creates penalties for high-end "cadillac" plans and increases FICA medicare
taxes for those that make above a certain level (there is a 0.09% FICA
Medicare surcharge for those making in excess of $200,000). All these
combine to create a larger federal governmental structure that is stronger
and more insinuated in the daily lives of citizens.
* The actions of Eric Holder - The Holder Department of Justice has been
more litigious than any that I can recall
* Ardent support of policy changes for social issues such as minimum wage,
abortion (including parental consent) and LGBT issues (yeah, I know you
mentioned that).
* Speeches that directly support income redistribution

There are more but unfortunately I have to end it there due to the time.
My point is this: It's not in his similarity to Bush that makes him a
"moderate conservative" (wow, there's a term that doesn't exist) but in the
actions he has taken to directly grow the size of the federal government,
create dependencies on it and lessen the power of the individual states
through the same fiscal tactics that brought about the 55 mile per hour
speed limit. Those are not conservative goals or ideals, they are the
opposite.

He pretty much continued all of Bush's policies. The only liberal part of
his polices has been what the has done for the LGBTQ Community and maybe the
equal pay for women bills. Other than that, he turned out to be not much

And if you can't see the insane implications if these perverse people with

Social program spending has increased, deficit spending has increased,
corruption is rife at all levels of government, how can anyone defend any
incumbent anymore?

It's insane.

The ACA had the opposite effect intended. We're under constant significance,
and a county in Florida's just bought six apache attack helicopters, two seats,
can't even carry passengers.

Wake up.

There is a hardcore liberal didn't running roughshod over the consortium in
the white house right now.

Have you seem some I'd the attempted gun control legislation?

Don't forget chairman Obama's recent decree to give vets brain implant
chips, which it turns out haven't even been human tested yet.

In post racial America we can.t have another Tuskegee, so we'll go to the
new second class for test subjects.

I mean dangerous veterans should be controlled.

If they think after paxil and larium and anthrax and small pox, and giving
me mrsa that I'm going to let them implant shit in my head.

RE: Democrats set to lose the senate

2014-09-08 Thread Eric Roberts

Or they don't bring it up at all Rick. Boehner does the same thing Reid
does...they control what bills come to the floor in their respective houses
and Boehner has not let a lot of what has passed in the senate come to the
house floor. The Senate just passed a bill tonight that would overturn
Citizen's United. How much do you want to bet it never gets to a vote on
the house floor?

The democrats seem to be completely incompetent, although they are up
against a bunch of right wing extremists calling themselves the GOP party.

I just shudder to think what the US will become under a GOP government.

We have already seen what is taking place in Australia under the leadership
of the US right wing.

RE: can't start apache after installing and configuring cf 11

2014-08-25 Thread Eric Roberts

I think it is called apache2.conf now...the latest version of apache changed
it from the httpd.conf file. Not sure why they did that. It seems pretty
stupid when theat is such a long standing standard. It also makes it
difficult to get software to work with apache because most look for httpd
file. I ended up creating a dynamic link called httpd.conf that linked to
the apache2.conf file.

Start fine after fresh install on new machine. Installing coldfusion and
configuring the web connector seems to break it. What weird is that it asks
for the server binary and it has always been httpd from that i remember now
it seems to be apache. am i looking in the right place?

Well said Mr President...

"Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a
professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one

every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave
his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most -
from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The
Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and

Or even worse being stuck in the endless cycle of contract work...that would
be me.

Then why complain about it? There is this process of corporate
indoctrination that people go through. Eventually you just accept all those
things you hate about it and give up, becoming a part of the broken machine,
beaten down by HR policies and endless meetings, drawing others in with you.
That is when the job has already crushed your soul.

I have no way of knowing if you are in that place now, but I have seen so
many people there. Complaining endlessly about their situation but doing
nothing about it.

Maybe that doesn't apply to you, but I am fairly certain it applies to at
least *someone* on this thread who's complaining about broken Agile.

Yeah...it's the promised land for PM and managers because the devs are doing
their job for them.

Well, no.
Scrum is an attempt to apply engineering principles to a historically
unmeasurable process.

and like with baking, or making cement, following the process AS CLOSELY AS
POSSIBLE is the actual purpose.

the client can say "i need a double batch", or "I need it to dry
underwater", but that just directs the team to change the formula, the
client doesn't get to say "add more lyme, and use orange juice instead of
water."

when done well, i have seen it work great. but i usually see a train wreck.

but that is true of all dev methodologies. which is why agile seems like the
promised land for pms and managers.
