[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Temp tables

2010-07-30 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone once again

Can someone tell me for temp tables in AX2009 are they for sure always
created/stored and processed on the AOS server?

Supposedly http://www.axaptapedia.com/Temporary_tables says the temp table
is put on the hard disk of server or client based on where the first record
is inserted.

In AX2009 I assume all code is executed on the server but am not 100% . I am
thinking the code in a form might well be executed on the client and hence
my temp table end up on the client!???

My specific situation is to do with Arrival Overview form that populates
some temp tables.

Is there any way I can check or test where the temp table is being created?

Thanks as ever

James

Sorry I also meant to ask if I have a temp table and use SQL commands like
sum and count is there still any benefits or actually this is the same as
using a while select?

The easiest way I can think of is, Write a method on the table, put a
breakpoint. On the AOS configuration disable breakpoints running on server.
Now execute the method, if it hits the break point then it is running on
client otherwise on server.

Hi James,
The company I work for (Microsoft partner for AX) has a division in China.
Below is the info provided by my colleagues there:

Microsoft certified AX 2009 for its China Localization for all the
accounting rules requirements, in fact AX was certified since it was AX 4.0
back in 2006. MS China has a division sales organization developing extra
localization pack through out the year and their price and value offering is
very competitive in China. There is no need to integrate AX with local
system other than POS. There are many successful installations in China for
a number of years already including some large and small implementations.
The best approach is to find a local China Partner to handle the local
implementation due Language and culture issues.

Our company NMB China is a division of NMB Solutions and it was established
in 2006 and has a number of successful implementations. I can send you the
contact details of my colleagues there if you want to give them a call.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] AX2009 windows left not responding

2010-05-03 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone we have strange behaviour in AX2009 SP1 + GLS + RU3

Sometimes it seems users get AX windows that stop responding. In the list
of the available windows inside AX these windows no longer appear in the
list but in the OS taskbar they are there and can be selected but nothing
can be done with them (including moving them around)

I can open new windows in AX and they appear and act normal

Does anyone know any ideas why this is?

If seems like these windows have been lost by the AOS and so not considered
as part of the users AX client session anymore

It seems like it happens more with users who are working on inventory
journals but cannot confirm anything about that

Has anyone else had this or have any ideas what to check on?

Thanks

James

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Return Order type and RMA pains!!!!

2010-04-14 Thread James Flavell
Dear fellow AX suffers ;)

I am writing to see if anyone else has struggled with the Return Order type
and RMA in Sales and Purchase for AX2009.

We have a customer with intercompany and found interco transactions using
Return Order type has problems like Misc charges are not included on
invoices

I talked to someone else who also uses AX2009 and interco and they said they
stopped using the Return Order type due to all the half done code/functions

So we also decided to stop using Return Orders but it seems there is still
some issues we face as follows:

1) Why does AX2009 fill in the RMA number on ALL sales orders it
creates via interco!!!???

a. Even if the sales order is not a negative sales order it fills in
the RMA!

b. When a sales order is type 'Sales Order' (rather than 'Return
Order') but RMA is filled in then:

   i. The
sales order will NOT appear in Arrival Overview

 ii. Manual
Arrival journal cannot be created for the sales order

So just hoping to get anyone's experience and advice about changing the code
so that:

. RMA number on interco Sales Order is only filled in if we used the
Return Order type

Does anyone know of any good reason not to blank the RMA number on non
'Return Order' type sales orders?

Thanks

James

Hi ..

Right click on the field in the form where you need to create alert and give
the conditions.

Run the batch job. (Basic-Periodic-Alerts-Change Based Alerts)

When the condition is met, alert will ge generated automatically in Ax
window.

It is also possible to generate email alert. The process is different for
this.

Let me know if there are any issues.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Misc charges in intercompany

2010-03-24 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone I wanted to check if I setup intercompany and put misc charges on
the original document (e.g. Sales Order) then does AX require/force the misc
charge to be created the same on the corresponding document?

I wanted to do:

1) SO price 10 with misc charge of 10% (so 10.10)

2) PO created via intercompany with price of 10.10 (no misc charge)

I thought this would be possible since I can control the price on both SO and
PO does not have to be the same but it seems no matter what I try the misc
charge on the original SO is ALWAYS created on the PO

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] New Fields on Purchase Tab of Inventory Posting Profiles

2010-02-17 Thread James Flavell
I think the bottom ones are referring to the 'revenue' side of the Purchase
order.

I did ask someone to test for me and they could not get the revenue ones to
be any different to the top ones (stock ones)..even if did things like std
cost, misc charge that is charged to vendor but not item. One I did not try
is whether on the model group if you set the new field about making the
incoming purchase to be as per std cost (but it is not std cost model) so
maybe want to test it out with that

So not sure if these are of use only in certain countries/configuration or
just added to make it consistent with Sales order side (whereby maybe some
finance ppl want 4 entries at purchase packing slip posting for some reason)
and for sure I would like to know too

Thanks

There can be many issues so you need to provide as much detail as possible
(server and SQL DB specs plus idea of the CPU/disk load when things hang.
Also AX kernel and application versions).

It might be a certain operation a user does starts a large SQL and that then
slows everybody else down.

Do you have a partner who can help check the MS knowledge base and advise on
possible issues, this is the normally the best way to solve this kind of
problem as it can be very hard or even impossible to trouble shoot remotely

But do take note from what I can remember there was one hotfix by MS dealing
with slow down when many users are login to AX at the same time (sorry I
cannot remember much more than that but believe it was for AX2009)

This is happening even when the objects are accessed from the server

We stopped and started the service. Still no use.

Hi James,

Here are the details.

Kernel Version : 5.0.1000.52

Application Version : 5.0.1001.96

We are using SQL server 2005 SP2.

AOS and SQL server are in different machines.

Even when any of the AOT object iscompiled, the application goes to Not
Responding Status.

And I guess,it is affecting AIF also .

Because when I import XML , I am getting message the There is no schema for
this parameter. Please configure the data policies first .When i click the
Data Policies button in End Points form, the system again goes to Not
Responding mode.

And this settles down when the service is restarted.

Is this related to the above mentioned issue?

As you had mentioned, I dont think a large SQL operation could have caused
this because Compiling an AOT object does not make a database call.

We are trying with RU3 pack which is related to Performance/Application
Crash.

Kindly mail me your suggestions.

Still not clear the issue happens only when you are doing things in the AOT

James,

We are using 2 Instances. One is Test and Production.

Amount of Data in test Instance is same like in Prod.(might be around
less15% of data than prod).

Test instance is used by limited number of users.

But after we started using Production instance , we see the Test instance
has also slowed down.Be it compilation or posting an invoice ., nothing
works.System goes to Not Responding mode.

Coming to your question: I had a doubt that our customization could be a
reason for hanging problem. To confirm that, I compiled few objets in AOT.
Now I m clear that customization is no way related to this issue. Whatever
operation we do in Ax, it goes hanging mode.

As Mahmoud said, it might be because of SQL Server dynamic memory management
problem since both test and production instances are using same the SQL
server machine with different DBs and our OS is also x64.We are working on
that.

Meanwhile any other ideas or suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi Anitha,

We also had a similar issue when we migrated to Dynamics AX 2009. Our
problem was caused by Dynamics logging every item(Form/Report/Table) that is
being used by any user. The table SysUtilElementsLog was having locks So we
made the table SysUtilElementsLog as temporary and this solved the problem.
Please have a look at the SQL Acticity and if this is the case try making
the table as temporary. This will stop logging the usage in database and any
existing data will also be wiped out. Please try this in your test system
before doing it in Production.

Hope this will help

Just to update that what Navid talked about is KB 959598 and this is the one
I was also referring to.

Are you a partner? If so go get the article:

https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/kbdisplay.aspx?wtntzsmnwukntmmyxupyz
qpouxnxspsymmtyvwnzmxqlwyxs

If you are a customer go ask your partner to look it up and talk to you
(sorry its confidential and so I cannot just give it to you or I may get in
trouble with MS).

Basically the solution is as per Navid said to change to temp table (AOT
object usage is not logged any more - this usage data in theory is useful in
an upgrade to help you know objects that have a conflict whether they are
ever used by users - that's at least how I understand what it is used for)
or apply a hotfix MS issued (is included in RU2)

Let us know how things turn out

Thanks

James

Our auditor requires to know when are the AOD files updated by AX.

Is it only when a change is made in the corresponding layer in an AOT
 object
 or are there other situations?

If an object exists in both VAR and USR, if it is modified in USR can
 the
VAR aod file in anyway be affected?

If aoi is rebuilt can this affect?
If cross reference is updated can this affect?

The reason is the VAR aod file has strange dates that cannot be
 explained
(since we did not do any changes in the VAR layer since a certain date)
 and
so the auditor wants to know the situations of how AX can modify it

Is there any way we can filter or see if there is any object in the VAR
layer that has a created or modified date after a certain date?

 Thanks

 James

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Regarding Quarantine orders

2009-12-14 Thread James Flavell
I h ave seen errors in Q order linked to Return Orders and Arrivals

Please test on the return order set the imventdims as you want (e.g. batch
and location) so that you do not need to change any of them in the arrival
journal or Q order.

The error I had is because in at least 2 places the code uses the inventdim
values on the return order line to search for inventtrans (my problem was in
the split function but your error sounds like it might come from the same
mistake)

Maybe you can give the example (paying very close attention to the inventdim
values on all the inventtrans involved as well as on inventdim on all the
source lines - return order line, arrival journa, Q order)

I have submitted error report to MS on this but as of yet they have not
responded.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Logic for put away of items to locations

2009-12-04 Thread James Flavell
Can anyone help answer some WMS queries to save me basing my head on the
wall.

Using arrival journal if I want AX to pick the location to store an item
what is the logic used when no Pallet transports are used.

My understanding:

'Checking picking locations' field on arrival journal means check the
picking location on the item's warehouse setup first. If there is space
there then use that and put away logic considered complete. If not enough
space then continue with the put away logic (see below).

Enough space is calculated how (again bearing in mind not using pallets)?

'Check bulk locations' on arrival journal can only be used with pallet
transports otherwise I get an error message. Does that mean put away to bulk
locations can only be done when using pallet transports (what if I have a
bulk location in my store zone will it be ignored when not using pallet?)

Store zones - order of locations in warehouse to search (but does put away
logic care about the type of location or just will take any location that is
in the store zone?)

So logic for put away is to search through all locations in store zone of
the item and find first location that has enough space. If not enough space
in one single location will AX suggest to split into 2 locations? If all
locations in store zones full what will happen, will AX look in the items
picking location?

Look forward to some clarification

Thanks

James

hi James there are many system clasees available .. from which you can access
the objects in aot

For example

TreeNode classnode =
TreeNode::findNode(#SystemClassesPath+'\\'+classstr(xRecord));
TreeNode childnode = classnode.AOTfirstChild();

DictMethod dictMethod;

setprefix(classnode.treeNodeName());
while (childnode)
{
setprefix(childnode.treeNodeName());
dictMethod = new
DictMethod(UtilElementType::ClassInstanceMethod,classnum(xRecord),childnode.treeNodeName());
info(strfmt('%1', dictMethod.runMode()));

childnode = childnode.AOTnextSibling();
}

1. You can develop a recursive program, which will iterate thru each of Private
and sheraed projects.

2.copy the details of objects user modified date and time of the user into a
temporary table.

3. create a report and print them

Basically u need a class where u put ur business logic which will list the
objects in your project, 2nd u need a temporary table to store intermediate
info and a report to show up the results. hope it helps.

try to make virtiual company tables for the common tables between the two

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Ax3.0 SP6 Physical Value error

2009-11-16 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone I have another urgent problem that I hope someone might be able
to shine some light on

We have AX3.0 SP6 with DIS/DIP for Norway

The Inventory physical report that has a column showing Physical Posted is
giving wrong values if we back date the report.

Things we found:

1) If we run it on today's date the values are correct but if we run
with a date in the past then the values are wrong.

2) If we have not run any closing (i.e. no settlements) then back dated
report seems to be okay so it seems it is related to the settlements

Has anyone had similar problem or know of any fix that might exist?

Or does anyone have Ax3.0 SP6 and this column is working fine?

Appreciate any help can get on this before the auditors turn up.

Thanks

James

2009-10-29 Thread James Flavell
Mmm how about they print to Text or PDF and then do a 'Find' in notepad or
PDf reader?

Correct me if I am wrong but the global search will just tell you which
record it finds that matches in the raw data but is in no way
related/referencing the report that has been printed. So VG you might have
to clarify they are looking for where in a report a particular reference
appears or they just wanted to find if a certain reference exists in certain
data?

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] GLS or RU3 cahnges SYS or other system layers?

2009-10-27 Thread James Flavell
Good afternoon

Can anyone advise if the GLS or Hotfix RU3 install exe files update the SYS
layer?

I read on the web site for SP1 (and also I thought for GLS or RU3 but cannot
seem to find now) that it updates the SYS but not sure if that is just some
incorrect information on the web site..see:

https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/servicepacks/dynamicsax20
09sp1

Other key highlights in this service pack release include:

* The SP1 installer updates both the SYS and GLS layers of the
product. This means, for example, that if you already have GLS-TR installed
on your system, SP1 will update this layer during the installation process.

I assumed the above meant SYP or GLP was updated but now I am a little
unsure because I always thought SYS was off limits to everyone and only a
new version made changes but a binary file compare of a SYS aod from the
install DVD compared to after GLS and RU3 being applied shows a different
file size and content.

Can this change in SYS aod be due to a full compile of the AX application?

Would appreciate any help on being sure whether SYS aod file is the same
even though the compare shows a difference

Thanks

James

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] RE: GLS or RU3 cahnges SYS or other system layers?

2009-10-27 Thread James Flavell
Sorry slight correction/edit to my earlier post.

I found the original web page that got me really concerned (sorry it was not
the SP1 web page but search partner source or customer source for Hotfix
rollup 3 (974407) is available for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009)

The below statement is what got me concerned:

The rollup package contains both a cumulative kernel update and a cumulative
application update. Although there is no dependency between these two
updates, we recommend that you install both of the updates together. The
rollup will be installed on the SYP layer and the GLP layer. Additionally,
this rollup will update the SYS layer and the GLS layer that are installed
on the system

It clearly says here SYS and GLS will be updated!!! Any ideas why/what?

So I think SP1 does not touch SYS or GLS (sorry for scaring anyone) but it
would seem the RU3 does (I really don't understand why since XXP layers are
supposed to be exactly for the reason of patching so why is there a need to
change the original layer)

Thanks

James

Is it just that withholding tax is calculated per item rather than total

at time of invoice rather than payment for thailand?

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] ANyway to consolidate intercompany sales invoices

2009-09-12 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone,

Has anyone played with attempting to get intercompany sales orders to be
consolidated?

In real life this is maybe one of the number one chances to use
consolidation of orders into one invoice but it seems AX does not allow it
(set as invoice account but never combines and when set as order then get
error message that intercompany cannot be combined) !

I am guessing it is for technical reason as the linkage between the
intercompany orders seems to be pretty tight and therefore consolidating
would confuse the matter but I am still keen to know if there is any way
this might be possible with some code change or work around of some kind

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Split AR on a single Sales invoice posting

2009-08-11 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone,

Just wondering has anyone done a mod to split the AR transaction for a sales
order invoice posting?

I have the case whereby a sales order has several lines and each line might
have a different salesrep and I would like to get separate AR transactions
(CustTrans) for each sales rep so easy to compile a AR aging or statement
per salesrep.

I could make a customer account for each salesrep but this would then mean
the SO has to be spilt into one per salesrep so this is not an ideal
solution

Wondering if it is fairly straight forward or not to do this kind of split
(considering Dimensions can split the revenue part of the posting was
wondering if something similiar can be done on the AR part)

Look forward to hearing from anyone who has managed or attempted it

Yes this is the property but I cannot remember the different values sorry so
you will have to search MSDN etc

Also check on the users options setup on the PreLoad whether the Markup
trans is ticked (this is per user and the same as having FullTable cache)

Just to check does the slow performance happen everytime or just the first
time a specific user 'loads' the MarkupTrans?

Also it might be that the SQL index is clustered or something (I have yet to
fully understand when a clustered index is a good or not good idea but it
seems a common advice to check on this and potentially change it - I think
there is a setting in AOT for it...)

We need to do a on-hand adjustment to revalue inventory as of a certain

Closings have been done until 30/6. When doing a on-hand adjustment
selection from the 31/3 closing, the posted quantities and values of the
items are that of 30/6. This means that we need to reverse all the closings

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Record Level Security for Financial Dimension in AX2009

2009-07-16 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone just wanted to double check if anyone has managed to stop the
financial statement and COA Balance by dimension form from showing
dimensions that are supposedly not available for a user

I have set RLS on ledtrans, ledgerbalancedim etc and even tried to set on
the TmpAccountSum table but it seems there is no way to stop the user from
seeing?

So before I keep trying further just wondered has anyone had any success in
these areas?

I guess I could remove access to the standard forms for balance by dimension
and make a new form that I can control it but for financial statement report
its something I dont think I can easily replace (unless I do some OLAP or
external report that can achieve the same matrix style formating as FS).
Both of these are far from ideal :(

Also anyone come across other places teh RLS will not work for inventory
dimension or financial dimension since the plan would be to use it to filter
data for a particular site?

Thanks

Hi James

Using version 3.0 SP6.

Closing was done on the 30/04/2009. The next closing was done on the
31/5/2009. Various cancellations/re-closings happened on both these dates.
When investigating cost of sales, I reconciled the difference to the closing
adjustments (which is normal). By looking at the specific item transactions
in question, I discovered that although some issues (sales order) was
financially closed on 30/4/2009, settlements (adjustments) still was done on
these transactions on the 31/5/2009. To me this do not make sense?

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re:Inventory closing adjusting already closed transactions

2009-07-07 Thread James Flavell
You cannot adjust a fully settled reciept its as simple as that :)

If its partially settled you can only adjust the open portion (if you do
onhand adjustment you will see partial transactions get split into fully
settled trans and the open trans which clearly shows adjustment cannot be
done on settled part of any transaction)

Closed means clsoed to any adjustment does not matter if it comes through
onhand/trans adjustment or the recalc/closing

Settled means settled so I hope we are settled on this ;)

Even though you have a fully settled receipt transaction, what happens if
you want to adjust a purchase price on a fully settled receipt transaction.
What happens if it is linked to a fully settled issue transaction.

In my mind, being fully or partially settled is not relevant for the
question we are considering. If you adjust a receipt of inventory, it
passes those adjustments on to issues of inventory.

I think fully settled transactions become relevant when the close/recalc
algorithm is setting up new links - any fully settled transactions would not
be considered according to a flag.

I am thinking of FIFO mainly as I think of this because it is simple, but
the rationale can be extended to WEIGHTED AVERAGE as well.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Reservation sequence in AX2009 shipments

2009-06-22 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone,

I was looking at the reservation sequence on shipments in Ax2009 (which I
think is an improvement) but I was wondering if I am using batch number
reservation (not date controlled) then how does this sequence work.

I assume it will just find any available stock within the locations on the
first sequence and therefore may well be not doing at all a good job of
making sure oldest expiry date stock goes out first.

Can anyone advise if they have looked into this new feature and if my
concern is correct (and if there is any easy way to improve it or minmise
the risk :) )

Thanks

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] RE: Error running export to file as batch but no problem when run normally by the user

2009-06-09 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone

I have a strange problem that I have a class that basically creates a text
file of the item onhand information.

The class works fine when run by the user but when I set it to run in batch
it gives an error when the following code is called by the batch client:

new FileIOPermission(FileName, 'w').assert();
File=   new AsciiIO(FileName, 'w');

The error says about ASCIIIO is not initialised.

I get the error even if I start the batch client in the same logged in AX
session that works if the user runs the export directly so I am a little
lost

Also I took the export and put it on a dev server and it worked okay using
the batch client! So I am wondering when the batch client is running what
user id is it running as? The user id that logged into AX and started teh
batch client or the user id that is in the AOS service start up or soemthing
like that?

Does anyone have any idea why the batch running would give this error since
the export works fine when run directly by the user?

This is AX4.0 SP1 or SP2 I cannot remember right now

Thanks

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] AX3.0 copy and paste Chinese double byte into MS Excel problem

2009-06-08 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone..more duoble byte woes ;)

Now I have my customer's Ax3.0 up and running with Chinese GUI and Chinese
data but the next problem is that if the user copies and pastes Chinese data
from AX into Excel it is not working

If say the user copies a customer master record that has the customer name
showing in chinese in AX when this is pasted into Excel it seems excel
assumes the characters are Unicode rather than duoble byte and so shows
Unicode characters (garbage characters)

Is there some way to get Excel to assume characters pasted are not always
unicode? Or some 'widget'/middleware that can convert, with little or no
user input during the copy and paste, from double byte to unicode?

Look forward to someone being able to help before the users get their hands
on me ;)

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Intercompany and AXSalesTable/AXPurchTable

2009-05-12 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone

Was wondering is anyone has come across the following pain in AX
intercompany in AX2009 (or maybe earlier versions too)

Orig SO (A)
PO (B) created via direct delivery for (A)
Intercompany SO (C) created for (B)

When it is all created the address on all 3 is the sames as (A)

BUT if I change the delivery term field (or other fields that are sync'd) on
(C) then (A) and (B) have their delivery address 'reset' to the company info
address!!!

I can see code in AxSalesTable and AxPurchTable regarding setDeliveryAddress
etc and it looking up companyinfo address but cannot quite fully understand
how to fix such that the address should not change if I update something
like Del Term (I have a feeling I need to trick AX into thinking the
delviery address fields have changed and then these will be sync'd back
rather than copnay info address being used but again this is only a educated
guess and where exactly to put such code is another matter)

Would apprecaite anyone who can give me some advice or ideas

Thanks
James

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] AX3.0 MRP strange result

2009-04-20 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone

We have a strange result with AX3.0 Sp5 MRP using Period coverage.

When it is run 3 planned purchase orders are created but the first planned
PO qty covers requirements way beyond 90 days, which should be in the later
planned POs!!!. The second and third planned purchase orders only cover
requirements within 90 day period (but do not contina the error requirements
that somehow got put in the first planned PO)

The strange thing is if after running the master planning if we go to the
item / net req / update / master scheduling this updates the planned
purchase orders to be correct (i.e. each planned PO only covers the
requirements for 90 days)

Has anyone come across anything similiar before...I vaguely remember Harry
mentioning there are a number of bugs in master planning long ago but dont
remember any specifics

The settings for this item are:
Leadtime 60 days
Coverage: Period
Coverage Period 90 days
Neg days: 720
Postitive days: 720
Timefence: 720 days

Thanks

You get this if you are combining several orders (in version Ax3.0 you can
also get this if you do adjustment and post only 1 PO but thats another
story so I wont explain the work around for that since you are obivously not
on that version)

You should remove the tax adjustment on the PO and do posting, then in the
posting screen do the adjustment there (I cannot remember but expect you
need to press the Arrange button first before you do the tax adjustment)

Not to sure why MS will not pick from each PO but guess maybe because you
are combining several PO they want you to be sure and make the adjustment
according to the final invoice amount rather than individual

take a look in the Salespackingslip table methods. look in the
initFromSalesTable and that should give you a place to start from (of course
you will need to add the salesperson field to the salespackingslip table

this initFrom method because only the contactpersonid is stored on the

this is the easy part I guess)

If the point is to safe guard against failure at a physical site then you
would have to see how well SQL/Oracle can do the
mirroring/redunacy/clustering over WAN etc (I have no real idea but guess if
possible then it aint pretty and for sure probably aint real 'realtime'
unless you can get a true ethernet or higher connection between the two
sites)

AX provides no way to do 1 site realtime update like what you are saying

Thanks

What is the best solution for such a scenario:

company that has two locations where they want each location to have its own
AX and its own Database.Location1 is the head-office and location2 is the
factory. The requirement is to have both databases real-time updated so that
they have the same data and in case one site failed users of that site
log-in to the second and continue their tasks.

first location: HQ with AX1, Sql DB1 and HQ users
Second location: F1 with AX2, Sql Db2 and F1 users.

Db1 and Bd2 must have the same data on real time bases. In case of a failure
users can use the running application and its DB.

How can we setup such a scenario, I know one DB is the best solution but
what is described above is the must.

2009-04-14 Thread James Flavell
just to add to my original posting...

the idea of loading historical invoices into the tables is just 2 tables
custinvoicejour and custinvoicetrans. If you want info in any other tables
then potentially direct load is maybe not what you want

these 2 tables are enough to give you historical sales reports (which I
assume is the main reason for having such data) but as mentioned wihtout
cost unless you do a modification like I mentioned. To add I think the mod I
suggested about the cost will work fine also in the std AX olap cubes (as
they use the costvalue method) but of course for any OLAP cubes done outside
of AX you would need to follow the same logic of checkign if inventtrans
records or a value in the new historicalcost field

Hi Varden,

He can use DoInsert() method absolutely no problem. but, how can he create
SalesIds that link between SalesInvouceJour/SalesInvoiceLines tables. Trans
tables have inventTransId which links to SalesLine And also, the story does
not stop at just these tables. If the vendor has non po invoices, then he
has to post in LedgerJournalTable/LedgerJournalTrans. Remebember, if his
customer wants to view the report by customer num, discounts , tax
,surcharges, tax on surcharges, tax exempt on surchares oh yeah, its just
not those two tables. He has also look into ledgerJournalTable/Trans tables
for Non PO/SO invoices and make sure that he has properly taken care of GL
side postings. I am not sure if his customer would consider to maintain his
whole SO/PO invoice history in a seperate company rather than the existing
transactional company. Some people would prefer to maintain the history in a
seperate company or ask them to use TARGIT or something similar. Just a
thought. Wanted to say that its just not two tables when the orders have
discounts,Sales taxes ( each state has its own tax ) and surcharges.

My 2 US cents.

Hi Michael,

I have loaded sales and purchase invoice directly into the

available since this comes from inventtrans (which I did not bother to
create).

If the customer wants the cost (usually they will be willing to accept
without if you tell them how much more it will cost) then either you have to
create inventtrans records (possible either via code or via import data as
SO and post invoices) or just modify so that there is a new field on the
invoice lines called 'historical cost' and then modify the cost method on
the lines such that if there is zero cost returned from inventtrans search
then return the value in the historical cost (I have not done this but
looked at doing it and it should be a nice and clean mod from what I saw of
the code)

All the best
Let us know what you decide on

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Customer orders via Enterprise portal for
 projects

 Hi everyone again

Have any of you developed or thought about how it could be possible for a
customer to enter an order (mainly for stock) via the enterprise portal and
have the order associated to a project?  We dont want to have to create a
complete EP site for project orders but rather prefer to stick to the std
customer role EP as much as possible

The reason is the customers busniess is made up of both installation projects
and service agreements (both created in project module from within AX windows
client) but also spare parts sales (which the customer hopes to have their
customers do via EP).  If we use the std EP which makes only a normal sales
order then total reporting of sales etc will require to run reports in both
project and AR modules (please correct me if I am wrong). I can get total
values from ledger etc but I am referring more to users who would normally be
running sales reports from the sub ledger etc

From what I can see we only need to assign a project id on the sales order
header and thats it AX will take care of the rest as if it was a sales order
 created from project.

So the best solution would be during EP order entry to assign a project id to
 the order via some modification.

A manual way I thought of to get the proj id on a EP order is that once an
order is placed on the std EP the internal user can make a project, make a
sales order from the project and then use the 'Copy From' function to copy
the lines from the orginal EP order. Anyone see any problems with doing that
(apart from the extra work...which could be automated farily easily I guess)?

Also I think I could insert a project id on to the original EP order and then
do 'Copy From' function within this sales order then everything should also
be okay (just make sure to tick 'Delete original lines') and I get to keep
the original sales order number :)

Does anyone see any problems with using this kind of approach? The only
things that seem to be related to project on the sales order is the project
id and the project transaction id (on the sales lines...anyone knows exactly
what this project trans id is for please do let me know..I have a rough idea
 but not 100%).

If you got this far thanks for taking the time and I hope we might be able to
share some ideas on a solution :)
 Thanks
 James

2009-04-03 Thread James Flavell
Thanks Khaled,

I followed your steps and I can get a little further now :)

I get an EP site that is more like what I expect (there are a lot of links
such as 'Sales orders' but I get the HTTP 404 error on these so for now I
will take it access is denied to these since I am just anonymous user ...
although really such links should not be shown if am am anonymous user
right?) and basically I can only view the product catalogue and sign up
pages but the Submit button on the sign up page is greyed out so I dont know
how can I get myself signed up as an external customer?!

I played around with assigning EP_Ext (External user) and EP_Cust user
groups to the guest or just the EP_Guest group but it didnt seem to make any
difference in getting the submit button to be available...
I put the site in my trusted and set the lowest security setting but also no
luck

I noticed in the top right corner of the browser it still shows as 'Welcome
CONTOSO\Administrator' which means I am not recognised as guest but admin???

What is the 'External web users' option in Setup needed for? Is this
something I need to worry about at this early stage or only if I actually
implement EP customer role in production environment?

Would appreciate some further help for anyone out there who can spare a few
mins so I can get to trying out adding items to sales basket and follow the
flow of this into AX :)

Thanks again Khaled and hope someone can help get me sorted

Hello James,

First Of all, to enable the guest user and also what i really understand
from you that you are using the RTM VPC from Microsoft and i know in this
VPC there is NO EP Groups at all,

So, for that you can 1st run the Configuration Wizard, after you finished
all the EP groups it'll come and the EP_Guest is one of them, also it's
better if you can understand and check all the default EP Groups and what is
the useful for each groups.

then, to enable the guest user in AX Client you just go to the User form in
AX Client and check the enable button, you don't need to create or assign
any user or groups in AD.

Now, You need to create a new EP Site and use the MS Dynamics Public
Template for this site (this is the one used for the Guest users and
Internet sites), and this can be done from the SharePoint Central
Administration Website.

after you successfully create the new EP Site when you hit the URL from AX
Client under the Website form or even from the SharePoint Central
Administration Site, you'll see that the site already logged in with the
guest user this actually for the Internet uses.

I hope if this information is help you.

Best Regards,
Khaled

Hello James,

The way that you can work with the Customer Self Services is to login in EP
with the Guest user,
and to login with the Guest user you need to enable this guest user in AX
Client,
After that when you login to the EP with Guest user all you can see by
default is the Products Catalog and a Request page to be a Customer.
after you finish the request in the EP site you can see this request and all
the requests under the customer self services then sing up form you can find
this in enterprise portal in administration.
then after that you can complete the full cycle for your customer and send
for him/her the user name and password for the request.

Hope if this information is help.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] various common project module problems

2009-04-03 Thread James Flavell
Hi everyone,

I think these are fairly common requests from customers who use the project
module so wondering if anyone has already programmed something?

1) The user wants to invoice a deposit to the customer at the start of the
project and then on the final invoice show total invoice amount minus
deposit gives the final invoice amount.

Using fee or onaccount usually we suggest to create a negative line for the
deposit invoice on the same date as the final invoice but customers often
want this to be automatic because if they are having to change or add
deposit invoice amounts as the project progresses etc they must always
remember to make such changes in the reverse transaction. Maybe someone has
done a solution where the original deposit line is ticked as 'Reverse on
final invoice' or something like that?

1B) If the deposit invoice is in foreign currency then the customer wants
the reverse invoice to be at the same rate as the original deposit invoice.
The customer does not want to use fixed rate on the whole project, rather
only on the lines that are reversed. Can anyone tell me where is the code
that sets the exchange rate for a project invoice?

2) Auto create fees or onaccount line based on percentage split of complete
project amount
The customer has fixed project terms such as 50% upon signing, 20% after 30
days, and then 20% on completion etc and wants to just apply these to the
total project amount for the system to know how much to bill at each stage
etc rather than the user manually calculate and possibly make mistakes.

Look forward to seeing what you might have done or considered doing

Thanks
James

i never did manage to resolve the issue with the menu captions and button

individual menu/button control properties to see if that works as i believe
the font settings in the tools options doesn't flow through to all UI

 hi James
AX3.0 uses double-byte and you will not be able to make the labels show up
proper characters on the menu items and tab captions and menu item buttons
etc, though some of the labels will be ok on the forms and as for data,
you
need to set the database collation and code page in control panel
regional
settings and install the ime pack for Chinese. when running the ime, in
some
cases, the input editor doesn't appear where the mouse focus is so it can
be
quite annoying to the user. you will also need to change the font in the
options to use Tahoma, if i remember correctly, for your reports. after
doing all this, i believe some elements of the UI will still show traces
of
gibberish. i would recommend an upgrade to 4.0 SP1 at the very least in
order for your CN application to work as designed..

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Replacing label file in AX3.0

2009-03-29 Thread James Flavell
Thanks Karen once again :)

Okay your hint about Tahoma font help solved one problem :) Now the column
headings on grids show correctly thanks a lot for that. (Reports seemed to
be okay even without Tahoma font set but I of course I have not checked in
great detail)

But the main menu tabs and buttons still do not show Chinese. Are you saying
it is not possible to get these to show in Chinese in AX3.0?

Thanks
James

hi James
AX3.0 uses double-byte and you will not be able to make the labels show up
proper characters on the menu items and tab captions and menu item buttons
etc, though some of the labels will be ok on the forms and as for data, you
need to set the database collation and code page in control panel regional
settings and install the ime pack for Chinese. when running the ime, in some
cases, the input editor doesn't appear where the mouse focus is so it can be
quite annoying to the user. you will also need to change the font in the
options to use Tahoma, if i remember correctly, for your reports. after
doing all this, i believe some elements of the UI will still show traces of
gibberish. i would recommend an upgrade to 4.0 SP1 at the very least in
order for your CN application to work as designed..

Hi,

If you have the list of these tables, than you can create an AX export
Dat-Def file from AX30, and import it into DAX2009. However, this can work

upgrdae AX30 SP6 only to DAX2009.

Hi All

We have the following requirement:
We need to consolidate the pick, pack and delivery functions for sales
orders with the same delivery address. We are looking at the shipment
functionality, to group orders together, but it is obvious that this does
not cater for this specific scenario, i.e. we need some modification to the

automatic addition to the shipment.

Has anyone encounter a similar requirement? We want to use standard Ax as
much as possible. We use AX2009.

Example:

Copy en-us ald file

Rename translated ald to en-gb (en-gb is my spare language in my license)

Start AX with en-gb as the language

Apart from the ald is there other files that need translation?

I can see there are other files but believe I do not need to do anything to
them:

ALT - Temp labels

AHD - Online Help Data File

KHD - Kernel Help Data File. This one I am not sure...if this is not
translated it means kernel errors etc will still be in English is it?

ADD - Developer Help File

Has anyone tried taking the AX4/2009 chinese label files and rename and put
in AX3.0. Is it possible? Is there a lot of rework required due to
different label ids etc?

Could the same be done for the AHD,KHD and ADD files from AX4/2009?

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Fixed rate for onaccount lines in project invoicing

Hi everyone once again

I have query as to whether anyone has done the following before:

On Project OnAccount lines to have a field to specify the excahnge rate to
use when posting invoice for that line.

The reason is because we want to invoice a deposit invoice at a certain rate
and then later at the final billing reverse this invoice. The problem is if
it is foreign currency and in different months then the base amount reversed
will not match the original.

We do not want to set a fixed rate for all the onaccount lines just certain
ones and when we do invocing we will only be invoicing one line at a time so
there is no issue of mixed exchange rates on the same invoice

I am guessing this might be easily done but not familiar with the project
invoice posting so not sure where to start

Thanks for any help or hints where to start looking

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Microsoft Support Question

2009-03-24 Thread James Flavell
Hi Subbu,

To be honest I have to agree on the direct MS support/consultanting
services...they really know nuts about AX (i.e. still a long way from being
a mature AX team). In terms of the front line dev I think that is a
different story but I dont believe you will get direct access to them unless
your case ends up being very serious and potentially damaging to MS

As for fixes in AOD file I agree it can be a nightmare getting specific
objects but I can understand from MS point of view why they do it that way
rather than individual xpos per hotfix. If you push MS they will attempt to
get you the specific objects but it can take a long time and can be quite
frustrating. The KB search function also is not great which does not help
your own attempts.

I would suggest for 60k USD per annum you can get a very good support
agreement with a partner, its just a matter of finding the right one. Not
sure why you dropped your partner but I believe you can get good value if
you find the right partner

Of course the partner will probably make use of MS in certain situations
(kernel bugs etc) but for sure they should be able to respond much faster
and with better understanding and detail in the majority of cases and have
other avenues/contacts to use in searching for solutions for you

From my experience with supporting customers (including remote support) a
serious support agreement between customer and partner should be able to
satisfy what you need but the focus of the agreement needs to be clear to
both sides (e.g. is it to included technical as well as application and data
etc)

Since being a partner I am on the other side of the fence if you would like
to chat on this topic feel free to look me up on skype djf1994 or send to my
gmail

Thanks

Hi,

I work for an end client who are using AX3.0. We were trying to get rid of

For 'Customer' support, they are asking about 60K+USD/annum for 30 hours.

Here are my thoughts.

1. MS is always tier1 support. I feel they are one of the dumbest people i
ever come across...For example, vendor aging report. Pathetic..

2. MS support sucks for AX4.0 because of DIS.AOD file. They will not tell us
the objects in question for the fix rather they will give the whole AOD file
which will have every fix. It takes ages to extract the fix for some of the
critical issues

3. Honestly, they are bugs in the system. They should be not charging us for
fixing their bugs...

4. Documentation on the issue sucks

5. KB article information on some of the bugs are horrible.

4. I know/dealt with almost all each and every object in axapta...

Do you know if we really need to pay 60K for support from MS?

It feels to me that a lot of money for the services we get from them.

Are there any companies out there that they dont use MS support?

I am interested to know...

Appreciate any help.

Hi James

I'm pretty sure that SharePoint isn't going to run on XP and you might
struggle to get the workflow engine running there too but.

.how about installing everything that you can get working directly on XP and
then running all the stuff that will only work on a server OS (like
SharePoint) within a VPC running on the laptop. You ought to be able to get
the stuff installed on the VPC to talk to the AX instance that's running
directly on the laptop.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Damn TopMargin property has a mind of its own!!!

2009-03-17 Thread James Flavell
Thanks Mary Ann,

Your idea makes some kind of sense if you look at the report object like a
word doc although the part about it automatically changing the value when I
look at the object is not like what happens in word.

I did notice that if I look at the object using PC with no printer setup I
can see the original margin value (such as 0.00mm) but then when I look at
it with the PC with printer it is 6.27mm if I go back and look with the PC
with no printer then it is back at 0.00mm ... so there is not an actual
saved changed happening (hence why there was no USR layer getting created)!

The thing to be careful of is that if the object is exported then in the XPO
file it takes the value at the time of export!!! So it could be 0.00mm or
6.27mm depending on the client used for the export. Of course when this xpo
is imported to another system the value in the file is used and hence a
'saved' change occurs (this was part of the problem as teh dev work was done
on a PC with no printer but then the export from dev was being done by a
client with printers setup)

Still have yet to get to the bottom of the problem so anyone else with any
info or ideas please do let me know

Thanks
James

James,

I would guess that it is feedback from the printer itself that forces
margin settings. For example, in Word, if you set the margins to zero
and then try to print to a printer than cannot print close to the
paper edge, you get a pop up that says margins are being changed to
some non-zero value.

As mentioned, this is a guess on my part based on what I have observed
in Word. So do not place a lot of confidence in my response. I am an
AX developer and I do not see any hard-coding in AX that could be
responsible for this behavior.

Thanks Malcom

Tomorrow I plan to get to the bottom of this (at least know exactly when and
what is changing...)

Just to point out the margin is not being kept the same as the object in the
orginal system AOT. If I export or import with a client PC that has a
printer then the margin is going to end up getting set as a different value
in the AOT object compared to the original AOT object. I feel the margin
should not change because even if I setup a margin that is too small for the
printer attached to the client doing the export/import this does not mean
this will be the printer the user runs the actual report on and that is the
exact problem I have whereby the user tested printing the report with no
problem in a test system and then the customer exported and imported into
the live and then all of a sudden the report no longer prints correct and of
course the customer gets confused and frustrated because the only thing done
is export and import etc

Hi James

My guess is that AX is picking up the limits of the printable area that your
printer supports and enforcing them in your design so that your report
doesn't try and render data into a space that your printer can't actually
print. Pretty much all printers have some degree of unprintable space on the
page but its larger on some than on others. The fact that AX pulls this
setting into the design in such a way that, when exported and imported into
a system where the default printer has a smaller unprintable area, the
margin from your printer is transferred just suggests to me that the
assumption is that the report layout worked with that margin and that you'd
want to keep that to ensure that the report matched what you saw on the
original system.

Something of a rambling answer, I know, but hopefully I got the point
across. J

There is a currency conversion script in AX... tried it once in AX3.0 but
not a success at all as had some bugs in the code (in the end the customer
did not go ahead with teh conversion)

Another customer we made a new company of just the master data and then did
export of the still open transactions (onhand, AR/AP, ledger balances, sales
and purchase orders) etc. Of course any MST field or exchange rate field we
had to convert (I think we did in the export so user could check the data in
excel before we reimported it) and posted them back into a new company using
the journals. This is fairly clean but of course you dont keep the full
history of the system and need to program such scripts for the export and
import

Hi All,
I'm trying to use the project server and AX integration on MS AX 2009 VPC

one project which was available with OOB image and had integration with
project server. But I'm not able to synchronize any new items on image even
not able to refresh the already integrated project to project server. The
changes we performed on the OOB image are:
1.Installed the AX 2009 SP1
2.Installed .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
3.Removed the Payroll module (SL2.AOD)
4.Deployed Timesheet module (SL1.AOD)

Apart from these changes I have not done any specific installation. The
synchronization proxy account is setup synchronization service is also
running. I'm able to see the items in synchronization service queue manager,
but the transaction status is not changing from waiting to completed and
nothing is happening after this step. I'm also running an empty batch job in
AX before starting the transaction. I tried downloading the AX 2009 SP1 MS
image and doing the same at there but not able to succeed there as well. The
integration transaction is not completing getting the authorization error
when I checked the windows application event viewer.

Could anyone guide me on the same?

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] InventTrans

2009-03-10 Thread James Flavell
These are all linked to inventory closing (or adjustment)

They get updated after closing has been run.

Since your inventrtrans got split this usually happens when you do onhand
(and also probably transction) adjustment. The system has to close of the
qty it knows is settled to issues and then the rest it can apply the
adjustment too. There is no issue with split inventtrrans in AX

Play around with before and after recalc and closing to see. Its fairly
stright forward once you realise what AX does in the closing

Hi Varden,

Thanks for input.
This comes from the profiler file during inventory recalculation process, so
less likely that I will change the standard code. I will only add index from
the DTA's recommendation.
I think we need to concern the column order as suggested by DTA because
otherwise the index will not be used and only makes additional write
overhead.
So we can't do anything for this kind of suggestion, can we?

Just FYI, I have a client who runs recalculation for long hours (20 +
hours). The only possibility is to tune the index because disk configuration
(RAID etc.) will not be change in the near future.
