[newbie] MP3 repair utility, anyone?
Does anybody know of a quick and easy MP3 repair utility, please? I've got a set of MP3s that are showing the wrong bit rate (showing the minimum bit rate of a VBR file, that being 32), and is showing total lengths in the range of about 18-25 mins (whereas they're all in the 2.5 - 5 min range). MP3_check is showing the correct info for the files, but Amarok is reading the incorrect data (and just for these files). TIA for any good hints. [newbie] Any solutions found to the PDA no-sync problems?
There were at least a couple of threads lately concerning PDAs not syncing in K-Pilot. Did anybody find a solution to the problems? Mike; If you'd follow up on the information you got in your What Is URPMI? thread, you'd be able to urpmi kernel and have a selection of kernels to install (which would install next to whatever kernel you're currently running.) Everything from kernels optimized for memory above 1 gig, 4 gig, or 64 gig, or optimized for multimedia or motherboards with multiple processors. The easiest way to do all of this is to install some urpmi sources (in other words, mirrors from which to download these kernels) using the easyurpmi site (http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ , then follow directions). Then open up the Mandrake Control Center, click on Software Management, then Install. After you get a listing of the packages available in the left window, search for kernel by typing it into the box, then selecting search. Voila, you've got a list of the various pre-compiled kernels available. If you see one you like, put a check in the box next to it, and select install. The software takes it from there. I think you originally asked about patching the kernel. Sorry, I can't help you there. If you're wanting to compile from scratch, you'll need to google for instructions. That's beyond this list, and is not necessarily for the faint of heart. Using urpmi.addmedia --distrib removable://mnt/cdrom to add my 10.1 sources, the CD numbers get screwed up (11, 21, 31, 32, 33, 41, 51, 61, etc.) Anybody run into a fix for this? I confirmed the md5 and the sums match reported values. The same Mandrake CD1 will boot from an older CD-ROM drive. My Plextor DVD Burner would probably not fall into the realm of cheap hardware. So, I don't think that this is totally md5 sum or improper burning related. I suspect that there is some minor anomaly in the iso image that is being spotted by newer or better CD devices but ignored by older ones. Warly indicated on the cooker ML that some drives seemed to be having problems reading the boot catalog when it was located in sector 929. That held true for me on my Plextor. Other locations booted fine. I'm seeing the same thing you are (file names are not listed when selecting the folder that contains the images you want to display). I remember this happening on 9.2 also but, since they're displaying in the slide show, I chose to ignore the fact. Perhaps the fact that I wanted to use all of the images in the folder, and didn't need to select individual images made things much simpler for me? [newbie] Qwest/MSN DSL combo
Anybody running the subject combination under Mdk? I'm moving from West Texas to the Denver, CO area (finally some scenery) very soon, and am wondering if there are any gotchas I need to watch out for. Verizon DSL has been absolutely no problem and I'm hoping that this setup will work as easily. I've got Verizon's DSL modem plugged into my Linksys router, then into my various computing devices, with the router handling the DHCP negotiation with Verizon. In my mind, the Qwest setup should be just as easy, but I'm hearing that MSN insists on some sort of Hotmail web setup for email, vice a POP server. Any truth to this?
